No 4.2.2 update yet. Xperia Z - Xperia Z General

Hi,
I am from UK and bought unbranded Xperia Z from Vodafone on the first day. Still have not got the 4.2.2 update through the phone or Sony PC Companion. I have not rooted the phone yet, as I am not that well verse with how to do it..
Can anyone tell me or give me links as to how to backup my data and update my Z to 4.2.2. Tried to do it from the links in the forum. Just confused as there are several of them, not sure which one to choose.
Thank you for the help.

Sorry, we're both on the same boat, no unbranded UK firmware updates. Still waiting for an official reply as to why this is happening.

Sorry guys but Sony's employee who is responsible for this update died 2 months ago,and only him has the password(top secret).
So during this 2 months, don't think that Sony has sit doing nothing,no... they still trying to hack his password but to no avail.

worked for me

Yeah, the unbranded UK owners are probably one of the last left to receive this update. I've been tempted to flash the Vodafone branded one as I'm with them anyway - just been too lazy :cyclops:

Just flash C6603 firmware from other country
If you really want 4.2.2 then just download flashtool and flash another countries un-customised firmware (I chose Spain, but it doesn't matter which one you use just make sure you flash the correct firmware C6603 or C6602).
Your phone does NOT have to be rooted
Your phone does NOT need recovery (CWM/TWRP)
and when UK Generic firmware gets released hopefully someone will upload the .ftf file and you can flash that (although there will be minute differences)
To recap:
Download flashtool
Download official 4.2.2 ftf (any country)
then once flashtool window is open then DRAG the ftf into the window and it will flash.
It's very easy, I encourage you to do it :good:

The device heats up less easily. That alone makes 4.2.2 worth upgrading IMO

Pretty much this. I feel bad for UK users but i'm in the same boat - Orange Romania sure take their sweet time trying to bake in all their useless bloatware. Vodafone Romania has had the update out for 3 weeks now.
I just have to find some time to flash an unbranded FTF (which will also get rid of the bloatware from Orange)

Wow really ? My xperia Z UK on Three got the update 2 weeks ago OTA.
Yesterday I got a notification on the desktop app about the update, so maybe it's a slower roll out :/
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium

This isn't a surprise to me to be honest, I had this with my desire hd, which was one of the first to come out. It was always the last to be updated, and this Xperia z is the same. One of the first batches to come out. It'll get done eventually.

Just flash one of the many stock original sony ftf that are all over xda or online. I do not see the issue. Work fine isn't very complicated and u will have 4.2.2.

Still waiting for 4.2.2 update on my stock Xperia Z. Shocking that network variants that have to go through more testing and red tape are being released before a stock fw. Sony really need to get better there!

While I agree it is pretty appalling service from Sony I decided to flash another region. Chose Generic DE in the end, seems to be identical save for the nfc icon which doesn't bother me.
Best decision I made, now I can actually enjoy the phone and look forward to quicker updates. Would be like I had bought the phone from Amazon Germany, which I did with my O4X as it had not launched in the uk anyway.

Im with Optus but my Xperia was bought outright (unbranded) with 2.3.3.
I would seriously just flash the generic UK update and not bother with carrier branded firmware.
Do I need to be rooted to flash?

hey i think im going to piss off some people here...
my arc updated to 2.3.4 from generic UK and I just realised the 2.3.3 on my PLAY was a nordic ROM thats why i probably got the update..
I thought I had flashed the generic world tft.
I deserve to be flamed so flame on.
Sorry about this i didnt mean to get people's hopes up.
it will come by anyway
False alarm.. Let's just wait for it..
Rename the thread please..way to distracting.
Atleast you were honest =|
I just checked the latest firmware, for PLAY right now 2.3.4 only available on generic Nordic and generic Latin America (R800a)
I'm still sitting on my update notice for 2.3.3 (xloud) after flashing and rooting 2.3.2 with Generic UK. I'd much rather just update once, than update now and update soon after when 2.3.4 is released OTA.

.253 O2 update just become available!

HI. Just thought I'd let you guys know. I have an O2 Pay as you Go Xperia Z and .253 has just cropped up via OTA. Strange thing is, there was nothing available until I installed the eXistenz ROM, then when my phone rebooted, I checked and the update become available.
I take it if I flash the new update I will lose root? The new ROM is based on .253 (unbranded, I think).
Incidentally, the update is 10.1.1.A.1.253 and weighs in at 63.3Mb.
If you are using a custom Rom then this won't be the ota for an o2 payg handset.

yep, it took ages, but the UK is finally caught up with the rest of the world.
NOT encountering any issues so far with .244!
. 244 is a huge improvement, speed wise over 434. I had seriously bad slow downs on that, apps would take seconds to switch and open, gone immediately with this build. I updated via PC Companion and rooted with the 434 kernel.
It would be nice to see these FTFs released with separate kernels we can flash back to after rooting.
EDIT: The main reason I suggest it is for people who don't download the FTFs (due to slow speeds etc) but update via Sony, and just need the kernel to flash back after rootong. If you had the FTF you could just exclude everything else anyway so it's a non issue.

Everyone wouldn't have to create a 'kernel only' FTF if you uploaded it and shared it here after you created it, just like everyone hasn't got to create this complete FTF.
In any case, all of the 244 releases use the same kernel, so the FTFs released by DooMLoRD in his rooting thread are all that's needed for now.
In the case of future updates, if I create and upload an FTF, I will most probably include a kernel FTF in the post for rooting purposes.

Ah, the LTE option should always show up then. I was unsure on that.
In any case, 3 UK don't have LTE yet, do they?
If you want the option to show up that badly, then try flashing again with no wipe first. After that, if it doesn't solve the issue, your only option is a wipe.
Perhaps something got messed up if you flashed over a custom rom with no wipe.

Maybe its stuck in traffic on the M25.
I think what they have actually confirmed is they have no idea what's going on and they are quite happy to ignore one of their biggest markets.....
I hope we get this by the end of Feb, because after that, their website will be lying.
Cant be much different to the Generic Austrailia firmware. Why is it taking so long !
Does anyone have a link to the Vodafone UK 266 FTF?
Its in a thread soemone started specifically about the vodafone UK version a few pages back now. Id not bother though unless you're rooting straight off, its better than the CE in my opinion but has some voda specific bloat and is still sluggish at times.
Ive decided to just try the Existenz rom which sounds like a nice tweaked version and pre-rooted to boot.
maybe some progress:
Well my number is there as getting it so I will check when I get home but not holding my breath.

UK Unbranded Xperia Z1 KitKat FOTA

At last, I got a notification on my Z1 about the KitKat update being ready. Did anybody else receive this yet.
Think I'll hold off for a while though, since after flashing the French FTF have downgraded to 4.3 because of some problems I was having with dialler (when trying to make a credit card payment by phone, the pressed key was registering twice or more times).
Please let me know if you install this on your phone as to whether bug free.
Thanks.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Guys and Gals,
Seems that I may have been a bit premature in announcing the UK Unbranded Xperia Z1's availability over FOTA.
The FTF that I used to downgrade to 4.3 was C903_14.2.A.1.136_Global-LTE_1277-2880_R1B, consequently the update notification for KitKat that I received is probably for the 'Global' version as well.
The confusing thing for me is that the 'Global' version has been out for weeks and my downgrade to 4.3 has been running for weeks also, but yet I only received the upgrade notification yesterday.
But I guess tha'ts by the by, so guys and gals, apologies for getting your hopes up, and back to the long wait for our UK update.
