Need to reflash stock keyboard anyone have it? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I just tried to flash the international keyboard for my phone and it causes the keyboard to completely crash over and over again. I made a backup but I'll lose some game saves if I restore. Anyone have or know how to extract the stock keyboard so that I can reflash it via twrp?
Thanks.
Nevermind, reinstalling the rom is the quicker way to repair the keyboard.

Portrait Keyboard Types gone from 4.3 MJ5

Hi there,
After noticing that the SamsungIME Portrait type keyboards were gone from 4.3 MJ5 I was wondering how I was going to go back to the 4.2.2 keyboard as it was the main one I used. Downgrading to an earlier rom isn't an option because of the new bootloader, so then I was thinking I could simply download the 4.2.2 SamsungIME apk and install it by rooting the phone and copy it into the SYSTEM/APPS folder, change the permissions and reboot after clearing the cache/dalvik cache. All of the versions of SamsungIME I can find either cause the system to crash ("We're sorry but the Samsung keyboard has stopped working" message). My questions, if anybody could help me, are
1) Does anybody have a step by step guide to changing the Samsung keyboard? Is it just a case of putting the apk files in the Apps folder and changing the permissions, clearing cache and rebooting? I've also tried using CWM zip files to load but these fail also.
2) Are Samsung keyboards rom specific i.e. will an MH8 keyboard work in the standard MJ5 rooted rom, or are they also not downgradeable?
3) Would anybody be able to provide me apk and odex file for the 4.2.2 i9505 MH8 Samsung keyboard (if it's useable in the MJ5 rooted rom).
4) This is a long shot, but is there a rooted/custom rom in existence that I can load to my MJ5 S4 that includes the 4.2.2 keyboard and so, still offers the Portrait Keyboard Types?
I would be really grateful for help with this.
Many Thanks
Philip

[Help] Factory reset

i made factory reset by going to Settings > Backup and Reset > Favtory reset. Once it was done, the keyboard didn't show up when register. i skipped all stuff and wrote my name by saying random names via mic. i installed google keyboard I had. Any idea on how to fix this ? I want to re-do factory reset again.
Hi,
Do you have a custom recovery installed ?
Yea of you don't have a custom recovery installed, best just to try factor reset again, I had the same problem once.
nope, i dont have it. Anyway, i did flash the stock rom again. My friend said that it might be the mod i installed for keyboard from Xuimod from Xposed. Maybe. Anyway it is fixed now ^^

Yes, you are right. Factory reset does not help to fix a system modding.
Only re-flashing the stock firmware may help.

Kies, Smartswitch and custom Roms?

I am considering installing a custom rom on my i9505 because I get random periods of constant reboots on latest BTU stock rom. Sometimes 1 or 2 weeks without a problem, then continuously rebooting for and hour or two.
I appreciate the simplicity of backing up everything with Kies or more recently, Smartswitch, and I am wondering whether it will still be possible to use Kies or Smartswitch to back up phone data such as SMS, call logs, contacts etc., or if this is no longer possible, what other alternatives are there to back up all phone data as well as apps, media etc. (I know Titanium Backup will do my apps so that is not my main concern here).
If you are not running a stock rom, kies and smart switch cannot be used to backup and the phone contents from or too the custom rom.
To backup, install twrp and use twrp's backup function. The restore process is usually successful but, in case it isn't, it's always a good idea to have a data backup in another format.

I did suspect as much, but being unfamiliar with Samsung I wasn't sure. Thanks for your response

"Samsung keyboard has stopped" error need help

So, I changed my phone font and when my phone got rebooted, I can't use my keyboard anymore... It keeps stopping... I tried to factory reset, that didn't help
Also, I noticed that earlier after factory reset there were 800+ mb used in inter storage... Now its 500+ mb... Someone can help? Cause now the phone is useless
Perhaps the font is not compatible with your keyboard.
But i dont think that after doing factory reset (deletes everything, makes almost new phone), that problem should remain... Also, ~300mb somewhere dissapeared ??
Anyone, help, please?

Try changing font style
Try wiping data of Samsung keyboard using titanium backup. U can also use another keyboard or google keyboard after freezing stock keyboard.
BTW which rom are u using?
Ok, I have solved my problem I have just installed another keyboard, and voila ??

[HELP] i think i've encountered a new bug.

hello, i have a new problem found few days ago and been trying to fix it but to no avail.
here is how it started.
i tried to install an app called fsecure vpn network from google play. then the phone when into a bootloop. then i did a clean wipe (reset, wipe cache and dalvik from recovery) but somehow my files were not gone. that is some kinda miracle i have no idea how it happened.
since then my phone have issue whenever i installed mihome:
-. google play services, trebuchet, package installer, and some other has stopped.
-. cannot open apps list in settings when mihome is present. the settings just stopped and crashed.
-. if i try to open the mihome, the phone goes reboot.
-. even uninstalling mihome from application list is not working, the package installer stopped. have to uninstall from google play.
-. i tried to make a bluetooth printer app, but when i put the app-debug.apk into my phone. file manager would crash whenever it tried to read the file. even by just scrolling down. example: file manager work fine if the file is not copied inside (meaning we can scroll around and not crash). but once the file is copied in then the file manager will work if we dont scroll down to find the file, but when we scrolled down to find the file then the app crash.
things i've tried:
-. clean wipe then reflashing rom and gapps.
-. manually update google play store, download google package installer and reinstall it.
-. tried to download google play services apk but was unable to install it.
-. tried the idea of clearing cache of google play service but still no luck (force stop was disabled anyway so i cant try that)
i have no idea how this all happen just because i tried to install that fsecure app. its not even fully installed yet. it was just starting to install after download then this hell happened.
im desperate for some help as i've tried for 3 days in fixing it but to no luck. any helps would be very appreciated.
thanks and regards,
hendry

Hello,
Did you try to reinstall Stock ROM ?
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-grand2/SM-G7102/
It happened to me that sometimes, apps or rom just run into a bug and maybe it corrupt the firmware but after a Stock ROM flash (via Odin) + custom recovery (via Odin) to wipe Cache + Data, everything was fix.
Hai, could u possible post me a tutorial on how to do those thing via odin? Coz i usually only do it via cwm. Thanks

Did you try to flash a recovery only ?
Maybe your firmware/system is not corrupted and then you could just reflash a clean rom ?
In Odin, Select AP and load your recovery.tar
I am having the very same issue. The difference is that it's happening with Spotify, Xposed and Relay for Reddit. So yeah it's been much worse for me. I will try to flash stock rom + reinstall another recovery and see if it fixes. By the way, I got a couple of questions:
1 - Does the country that I select when downloading the stock ROM matters?
2 - Which Recovery can you guys recommend? There's a bunch here but not sure if all them are worthy
Okay so I flashed an Indian stock ROM (I'm not indian nor live in the country), then I wiped all data, so I could boot. This is the default procedure to revert back to a Stock ROM.
After that, I noticed the Wifi wasn't working, probably due to the Stock rom I've downloaded. Anyway, I installed a custom Recovery (even an updated version of what I used before, then I reinstalled Ressurection Remix, and tried again.
....It didn't work. Relay for Reddit crashes everything, Spotify puts my phone into a bootloot. Same with Xposed. I have no idea what to do anymore. Someone, please help. I really can't afford to buy another phone right now and I really need those apps. Expecially Spotify.

Okay, so I guess there won't be any need for that. I've redownloaded the stock ROM, but this time, I checked my phone Serial Number so I could download the right stock ROM for my phone. Now everything seems to be working again. Spotify and Relay installed without any issue. I will now try to reflash recovery and then another ROM and see if the problem persists.
For those who don't know how to check your Serial number, it's right above your android version, at the "About phone" section on Settings.
I still need advice on which Recovery I should use.
Anyway, thank you guys. I probably would't be able to solve this without your help.
UPDATE: I've installed TWRP 3.1.0.0, and also rooted the phone using it. Still on stock ROM. Everything seems to be still working without problems. I think I'll stick with it for now. Maybe later I'll try to lash a Custom ROM and see if it still works.

Hi,
I'm glad you fixed you're problem. Sticking on Stock ROM is the best thing you can do if you need your phone as every functionnality is checked and working.
I personnaly use TWRP as recovery, its good you got usb, root and everything you need to backup/restore your phone + reset your phone.
