[Q] Win Vista & N7 Drivers - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a very old vista Notebook, that just doesn't want to install N7 drivers.
It installs them & then reboots, but then it installs them again & reboots again. This whole thing doesn't stop
This happens for ADB & Fastboot mode. (Tried it with the N7 Toolkit & Asus drivers)
PC: Win Vista 32-Bit Notebook
N7: Wi-Fi 32GB

I've never used Windows Vista but did install this on Windows 7 and 8.1 successfully. A possible problem is that you need to disable the Driver Signature Enforcement to properly install it.

How would I do that?

I would not know as I have not used Windows Vista. For 8.1 it is by going to PC settings > Update & recovery > Recovery > Advanced startup > Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup settings > Disable driver signature enforcement > Restart > Install.

[Q] Syncing 8525 to desktop running Win7 x64

I've tried using WMDC however each time I connect the device, I get an unknown device warning and it won't recognize the device.
I've read about similar issues with Vista and WMDC however, upon trying what was discussed in those threads, I am still not having luck. Is there an unknown driver that I don't know about or is there something else going on. I can't get any of the data off my device until I can sync it...
Any help would be appreciated
Make sure you have Windows Update allowed to search for drivers.
You do this by :
1. Click Start, then right click upon Computer and select properties.
2. You should now have the system control panel options. On the left pane, select Advanced system settings.
3. On the new window click the hardware tab.
4. Now click Device Installation Settings.
5. On the new window make sure the Yes, do this automatically (recommended) box is bulleted.
You may need to turn off the advanced network functionality for Windows 7 x64. (I recommend for x64, Windows 7 32bit works fine from my experience)
To do so on your Hermes :
1. Tap start and select settings.
2. Along the bottom there is Personal, System and Connections. Select Connections.
3. In the connections tab, tap USB to PC.
4. Now remove the tick from the box and tap ok.
I've done everything on the list short of turning off advanced functionality in win7...as I'm not sure what setting you are referring to.
It can see there is a device there, but it doesn't know what it is and keeps looking for a driver that it doesn't have.
Then, turn off the advanced functionality. It should find it, Windows 7 x64 has trouble installing the RNDIS driver for some reason.
1. Tap start and select settings.
2. Along the bottom there is Personal, System and Connections. Select Connections.
3. In the connections tab, tap USB to PC.
4. Now remove the tick from the box and tap ok.
Click to collapse
(The box should say Enable advanced network functionality, clear that box.)
NOTE : All on the phone itself.
If you need, I will post pictures showing the whole process.
tried everything described here. this is Windows 7 Ultimate X64. It did automatically instal WMDC, but cannot for the life of it install drivers for the device.
Not from Windows Update, not from anywhere. Am I missing something?

[solved] fast boot in win 8

Is fast boot supported in windows 8. The desktop version. Whn I couldn't install the fast boot drivers. I Google a lot and came up with a solution. Seems Microsoft wanted to hide it. Even then I can't get fast boot. When I do it it stops and says unrecognised command 'bork'. I have no idea what it means.
Press the "thanks", button if I helped you.

Go to Charms bar > Settings > General > Advanced Startup > Restart Now
Wait till a menu appears
Click Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup settings > Restart
After that you will be presented with a menu. The 7th option is "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"
Press number 7 or F7 to continue booting to Windows 8 with digital signature enforcement disabled.
Now you can install fastboot drivers

This is exactly what I did, and I installed fastboot drivers. Fastboot devices shows my device listed. But when I flash a kernel it aborts saying that remote unrecognised command bork
Same thing happened when I tried from my bro's laptop.

I have xperia mini and I have flashed a kernel more than once using Flashtool 0.9.8 on Win8. If you have installed the drivers successfully, it is not a Win8 issue
good to know:good:

[Q] pc can't recognise my phone

the problem is my computer can't recognise the phone when usb debugging is on.
i try to use nexus 4 toolkit to install driver on my PC,but still can't show serial
how can i solve the problem?
uninstal drivers using nex toolkit, restart pc instal drivers using toolkit and then connect phone to pc
if you're on windows 8 you have to do some crazy special reboot garbage to get it to work...
Steps to be taken:
1.) Bring up Charms by mousing over to the right of the screen
2.) Go to Settings
3.) Change PC Settings
4.) General
5.) Scroll down to Advanced Startup > Restart Now
6.) Trouble shoot
7.) Advanced options
8.) Windows startup options
9.) Restart
10.) Choose F7 (I believe) or click on "Disable driver signature enforcement"
11.) Reboot

Windows 10 and fastboot

So I reserved my free upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7. I don't know if I'll go through with the update though, since I don't know if I'll be able to install the fastboot and flashboot drivers on it. Is anyone already using the preview with the drivers installed? Not that I flash very often anymore, but it's always a good idea to have the drivers ready in case something goes wrong. Any leads/ helps?
I've been running windows 10 since a couple months and flashtool works fine. Including fastboot. No issues whatsoever.
I can vouch for that too both flashtool and fastboot function perfectly on windows 10.

Exactly the same as windows 8, disable driver signature enforcement and install the drivers from the flashtoll drivers file and provided you have the rest of the files not fastboot and flashtool will now function fine

just google fastboot drivers for windows 8?
Hm, if you are able to install the technical or insider preview of win10, shouldn't you be able to install fastboot doing a headstand ? Just imho

I wasn't running the technical preview, was just waiting on the upgrade. I got the drivers installed on my old laptop which I had upgraded to windows 10, but now that I've bought a new laptop, I can't seem to find the driver package that just easily installed all the drivers for me. Need to find it now '
Windows 10 preview or even the official Windows 10 release, its the same process of installing the drivers. Disable signature verification.
To disable driver signature on Win10 machine:
1. Open Start > Settings
2. Go to Update & Security > Recovery
3. Under Advanced Startup select Restart Now
4. Once your computer has rebooted go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings
5. Click Restart. Finally, you will be given a list of startup settings that you can change. The one we are looking for is “7) Disable driver signature enforcement”. To choose the setting, you will need to press the F7 key.
Then PC will restart and you can install unsigned drivers without any problems.

[SOLVED] How to install Asus drivers on Windows 10?

I've downloaded the `ASUS_Android_USB_drivers_for_Windows` found here and tried to install it from the `android_winusb.inf` file but despite the success window I still can't find the device through fastboot when it's in CSC Mode but on the other side when the phone is on ADB does find it and lists it.
How can I flash anything given this weird issue?
disable Windows driver signature enforcement (reboot options F7)
connect phone in fastboot mode, pick yellow triangle exclamation mark in windows device manager -> open properties -> Update Driver -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from the list of device drivers on my computer -> Show all devices -> Have Disk -> android_winusb.inf -> Android Bootloader Interface
