[Q] S4 headset weird problem - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi people. I got a s4 nearly a month ago and since then I feel something funny about the headphones. It may sound silly but I think the two parts of the headphones are not the same size or shape. The one without the controller (left one) doesn't completely fit in my ear as well as the right one and doesn't cover my ear well to cancel noise as the other one. I tried different rubber tips in the box. I also used the rubber tips from my mom's galaxy grand. They didn't make any difference. I got 5 people to test it too in case something was wrong with my ears! But all agreed that the left earpiece doesn't fit. I took off the tips and looked at the earpieces for hours to find a difference. But they seem to be the same and I cant find anything. So anyone ever had this problem? Is there something I can do or I have to get a new pair? Thanks in advance.

Had accident, smashed speaker, need new one

Hi all,
I had an accident and fell flat down to the ground with my TyTN in the belt pocket, exactly between my hip bone and the ground.
Now I have some more cosmetic plastic issues, but this would be acceptable. The bad thing is the Mail button is like a "sensor key" now, but works. The really bad thing is, the plastic speaker item inside (connected to the toppoly board, the speaker where the sound during calls comes out) is completely smashed and there's no more sound.
Since the rest is perfectly well, no screen damage (and no wrong alignments!!!) I would like to keep this phone but need a new speaker.
Could you guys help me to find such a speaker? The only part number on it is
501E6234A . It is a white plastic part, two gold connectors on the board side, a metal cover (now smashed) and a membrane on between the cover. You can see it on the attached pic, it's the white plastic rectangle in the middle.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance and greetings from Munich,
Torben
Hi Torben...
Did you ever find a replacement speaker? I have the same problem as you and need one
Thanks
Hey Fallingonion,
I am sorry, but I don't have any good news... I was in contact with a German company that usually repairs all kind of mobile phones for sales companies. They told me since the device is still too new they haven't received any replacement parts yet. The only way to have it repaired would be sending it in to HTC.
I did that in December and am still waiting for it to come back - and what it will cost.
How did you break your phone?
Torben
I've seen a few parted out Hermes on ebay - you might try that.
Hey lacroixdp,
thanks for this hint, too bad it's too late for me - but maybe Fallingonion can get a new speaker from there.
Greetings,
Torben

I've done some digging around, and may have found a suitable alternative It looks like the Motorola L6 / L7 might use the same part...
I figured the speaker would not be unique to the TyTN - some other phone or PDA must use the same one - so I went looking for disassembly instructions for other phones in the hope that they might show the same speaker.
If you check Step 9 in this pdf you can see what looks like the same earpiece speaker (even though it looks like they may have unfortunately damaged it during removal - you can see the metal face plate is still attached to the front of the phone.) What do you think?
I've ordered one to see if it fits - I'll let you know what I find
I didn't actually break mine - I bought one from eBay, only to find that the earpiece distorted if you turned the volume up So I took it apart and found that the metal shield on the front of the speaker was dented slightly - I guess enough for the speaker membrane to hit it.
If the Motorola speaker works, maybe you can get your phone back from HTC before they charge you a fortune?
Wow, yes, definitely looks the same - I simply cannot say anything about the actual size.
Let me know what comes out - too bad I already sent mine in for a repair! I doubt I can still get it back without a repair :-(
I am curious though anyway

Difficult to say if this the TyTn front speaker (earpiece) is identical to the one shown in Motorola PDF, might well function ok even if specs are slightly different though. In terms of delicate electronics were at the ironmongery end of the scale here!!!

That's what I'm hoping, Mike
The speaker in your photos looks exactly like the one in the TyTN - are they of the TyTN earpiece or the Motorola one?
EDIT by Mike - The pictures above are of the TYTN fron speaker/earpiece. And we now know the Motorola L6/L7 does work as a replacement.
I know that it is a complete offtopic ... but this is the reason why I use the aluminium case for my Vario II it just saves lifes ..
Just as an update - the replacement Motorola speaker that I was sent works fine
It was not a perfect match for the old one - it was necessary to slightly bend the contacts outwards to make sure that they made proper contact with the pads on the circuit board - but other than that replacement was simple. Sound quality of the new speaker is fine, and seems a bit louder than the original, although I could be imagining that
In case anyone else has the same problem, the only place in the UK that I could find advertising the necessary part was Phatphones (see "Speaker/Earpiece for Motorola L6/L7" on this page.) The part was quite expensive compared to other replacement speakers, but as I said it was the only one available.
Cheers all -
When your speaker out of order, did you try to using the orignal headset? I have the same accident as you did. But ,There is no sound at all.I try to using the orignal headset, but still don't work. I am not sure , if it is the speaker problem or the sound IC problem. Now. I can only using the Bluetooth headset.

Rear Speaker (Ringer) Dead! Where to find in UK?

Hi everyone.
The Ringer (Rear Speaker) of my Charmer has died. Does anybody know where I can find one in UK?
Or does anybody here sell this kind of stuff?
Thanks.
well you may try any speaker that can play loudly enough. in my old sony cmd-j6 i was using speaker from tetris game and it was playing louder than original with less noise
btw, what did you do that speaker is dead? i would recommend you to use multimeter to check if it is realy burned down, speaker has nothing inside that you could be damaged (of course, you can have burned down coil or damaged membrane)
P.S.: speakers do not like needels
Yeah, i've already checked with a multimeter. The speaker's coil is burnt out. I had a really loud ringtone (preamplified). I was using tomtom and while the tomtom was speaking, the phone rang and I suspect this caused a spike or something like that and the coil got burnt.
Needless to say, I won't be using that ringtone anymore.
And the problem with using any other speaker is that I don't know which one would fit the housing in the case as it is a pretty tight fit.
Any advice?
Thanks.

imho the best idea is to buy hardly damaged charmer (maybe prophet and other similar devices will use the same or at least simliar speaker). devices with broken display are cheap, coz they are useless for their owners.
otherwise, you can modify the plastic part that is carrying antenna tin. imho there is enough space to make speaker hole bigger and insert different speaker - the best way will be to consult right parametres with skilled electrotechnician...
Thanks for the info. I looked up on ebay and at the moment, couldn't find any old or broken charmer. Will go and ask at T-mobile shop first, if they have it and if they charge something like 40 quid, won't get it.
Then will start going for other options like modifying the case to fit any other speaker.
Anyway, contract about to finish in 3 months or so, so maybe will just leave it like that and get a new phone when contract finishes.....
My speaker broke the other day too!... wish i could get a replacement...
i have found this one:-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Internal-spea...ryZ10364QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
Thanks for looking jameslovell. But this one does not fit the charmer, and besides, i gave up looking two days ago and bought a random speaker and melted/reshaped inside chasis to fit that one
Now working fine
Thanks everyone for your help!

Motorola S9 + S9-HD

Friends,
Just recently purchased through AT+T the S9 Motorola bluetooth wireless headset. I was wondering what is the difference in sound for the Motorola S9 compared to the S9-HD?
Please advise.
tvos
When I first read your thread title I thought I was going to have to solve a complicated math equation.
The answer is obviously 2.
what is the difference, that is what i am asking...!
do you really hear the difference between the two bluetooth headsets?
tvos
Lol @ X2D.
The difference is between sound, battery life, and the ability to handle sweat. They both suck at reception, although the S9HD does have better bass. I like that the S9HD can handle sweat, while soon enough, S9's will die from it.
I decided to bail on the s9 and order the s9+hd... i tested s9 and it does sound really good and with srs working (extra bass) no complaints here.. but I do want to use this for working out and not having to spend $$ every six months because it shorts out due to water.

Bail? As in return? Give up? Put in a drawer? lol.
return it...while awaiting my s9+hd..
i used my $50.00 refund from the fuze I purchased towards the s9 which at&t sold it for $100.00 costing me $50.00. I found a site on-line for $70.00 which in the end costs me $20.00 for the s9+hd
tvos
S9+hd + srs wow
Just recently returned the S9 for S9+HD and very impressed!
With these two applications it is definitely well worth the investment. I didn't have any problems with reception even up to 30ft.
I definite must have hardware!
tvos
I also upgraded from the regular S9 to the S9-HD and have been very happy. I can't honestly say that I can tell about the sound quality, but the reception and fit is better.
you should definitely install SRS WOW on the diamond... its an incredible difference..
tvos
Never had a problem at all with reception on my S9. Never any static, and works a great distance from the phone.
I'm a fat sweaty guy, and I use mine at the gym. NEVER had a problem with it, but I hear others do. I'm going to assume people just leave the usb cover open or something when they use them.
I had an S9 like a year ago with my Dash and I had to return it twice. I sweat ALOT and it could not handle it. Hopefully the S9HD is better.
is there a carrying case to protect these headphones? i had to return my headphones because there was a rattle coming from the left ear piece.
other than that - i normally clean the stereo headphones from sweat so that way they will be clean.. preventive maintenance..
i have noticed after having the headphones on for awhile, the ears start to ache a bit..

how do you carry the headphones around? do you use a bag, I am afraid that they will be damaged in transit.. I was wondering if there was a case that will protect them?
also, do you get a rattle from the headphones? i RMA'd my first headphone, recieved the new one.. same problem.. or it might be the ear bud.
please advise
tvos
I have a pair now that I use on a daily basis. I have had little problems with them. They sound great, pair to phone easy. (did come across one rom they didn't work with, but that was not the headphones fault)
I picked mine up not long ago for only $60.
mine ran me around $79.00 - I picked up the S9+HD and not the S9 which is a older version.
I noticed a littel rattle in the earpiece.. not sure if it is the rubber part or something inside. I rma'd the first one back to shopcell and recieved new one.. same thing.. so I question this.
do you have this issue? I am a jogger.
tvos
Have any you trie the JayBirds? How do they compare to the S9 HD?

Holy crap what are you people doing to these things. I have the S9 and I have personally had 0 problems. I use them to mow the grass, I even wear them with my motorcycle. Great sound and reception. Never a problem with carrying them around as i pull them out of my ears and let them hang on my neck.
Now the only real issue i have is the speaker head is a little big for my ears, so after a few hours of them in my ears start to hurt. other than that my use of them has been great. Sorry to hear you all have had issues with them.
I ordered a s9 via ebay (31bucks + free shipping). I'm hoping to see it this coming week.

I owned a S9 . By now are unusable. Is a matter of time when controls start to fail when is exposed to sweat. Besides this, I think are great and unique design. Hopefully Motorola can address this problem.

quick fix blown speaker

Hello crew,
I didn't want to RMA my nexus so decided to attempt and fix it. I was thinking of replacing the speakers with anything I could find then one night I decided to open it and looked inside and thought something to fit this is going to be another challenge. So one thing I wasn't going to do was RMA the unit I rather listen only via headphones than to RMA so I thought how can it be fixed.
I simply heard the blown speaker as there are two and decided to just pressed the "Blown" one, and surprisingly it fixed it.
Thought I should share to those having similar issues please let me know of this works for you.
Why dont you want to rma? They send you a new device and you only send yours once your got the new one..
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
The speakers on the N7 are pretty fragile i already had to do the wallmart switch a roo once already. If you want to jam tunes without headphones use a external speaker like itour
Imo keep the N7 speaker under 100%, 80% max. A blown speaker and the acompaning distortion is hideous and will drive you crazy.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
The speakers are easily removed. It won't be long before aftermarket ones become available. So I wouldn't get bent out of shape if I had a blown speaker.

i just fixed my speaker issue
as i noticed, its the left speaker that is spoil, right speaker perfectly fine.
placed a folded piece of small paper on top of left spoil speaker, then close the case.
the paper press the spoil speaker, so it wont make sound.
sounds good, no more distortion anymore, volume is good too.
but my speaker become mono speaker now. barely notice it tough

Google themselves would happily do that but not j&r they wanted me to send and it and they told me they where also currently out of stock so that I would have to wait until they received some stock in.
I also didn't want to send it in as I have heard of others sending there's in as much as three times, mine only had a blown speaker. No screen lift no light bleed. I didn't want to take any chances
For the time being this has fixed my nexus and I'm a happy camper now, if it blows up again then I am sure replacements would become available

[SOLVED] Nexus 7 headphone jack problem - sound not coming from one side of earphone/

NOTE: This is not my solution... Credit goes to someone else
So I have been using nexus 7 for past 11 months... At first the headphone jack was working fine, I was getting good sound from both the ear buds but then it stopped working nd i never really cared about it because I use headphones with my nexus 7 less. But now that I got myself a JBL J04 I wanted to watch movies with these beasts on.... So i did some digging on net.
PROBLEM: The headphone jack is not working fine, it was giving sound in only one side of headphone(left one in my case) but when plugging a speaker jack it seemed to work fine. I have used both creative speakers and mini speakers. I have used mine skullcandy earphones and also jbl headphones but sound was only coming from one side... And in jbl headphones it was coming very very low.
SOLUTION: When you open up the back cover and see the loudspeakers module... There is somewhat copper conductive part revealed under those two loud speakers, and they gets in contact with the metal of back cover, when back cover is closed. So we need to TAPE THIS REVEALED COPPER side and voila mine headphones got working like a charm. For a good reference image is attached. This worked in my case so I dnt know maybe it will work for others or not. And yeah in my case I used black electrical tape.

Ur welcome bro
I know this is a bit late but after sending my tablet out for two RMA s for this problem I thought it was fixed. It's been off warranty since the end of July and yesterday the jack started screening up again with the left ear bud not working intermittently. If you tapped it it would come on and off. So I opened it up and tried this fix and it worked great. So much for Asus customer care I just needed electrical tape.
Thank you very much.

If speakers work fine, the problem might be in the headphone jack contacts, as was in my case. One of the contacts was broken and I could hear sound only from the right earphone. So I just put something between the jack and the back cover and now everything works great!

My problem is that it will not switch to the headphones when headphones are plugged in. It stays on speakers. Before I start digging around do any of you believe it is a hardware issue? I reset the tablet completely twice - didn't work.

This post saved me a bunch of time and trial and error. I was not getting sound from my left headphone and found a small piece of plastic from packaging solved the problem. I just folded it to make it springy and tight when compressed and it just stuck to the input jack (I provided images). So when I snap the battery cover back on it pushes the headphone jack back into place. Free 5 minute fix.
