Sandisk ultra 32GB class 10 doesn't work - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

My S4 does not recognize my new sd card. Just got it today I put my photos and music on it but it is not detected on the phone, any fixes? Already formated it twice

You might have to format it to fat32 or install a kernel that recognizes your current microsd format.

i formatted to fat32 on my PC with a 64GB microSD. from then on it works fine. when i got the S4 i just swapped it in and it works fine. full format to fat32 and see if phone recognizes it.

It came default formated to fat32, gonna try to do it again and see what happens

I always let my phone format new SD cards...

I still get nothing, it gets recognized on my computer and I can see the files through a file expolorer on the phone, but whatever I copy from my computer over does not show up in gallery or the music app

Formatting micro SD card

so i can't add/delete anything on it. i try and add music files (mp3 format of course) on the comp and it shows it went through but when i look in my phone it's gone. i try taking pics and vids and same thing happens.
so i noticed it's not in fat32 format so i try formatting it but it always says Windows is unable to complete format when i try to do it. i tried this both mounted on the phone and through a card adapter.
btw it's the card that came with the phone and i'm not rooted (if that matters)
are you trying a quick format or a the long format? try the other if one fails.
i did both
Use Ubuntu and see if that makes a difference, it usually does.

Mounting the Hero (FIXED)

I'm on Windows XP, and all the sudden the only way I can use as mass storage is in recovery with the usb/ms toggle. With the device on and connected I get the USB Debugging Icon and the device charges. I did everything on this thread (that i could was for windows 7) any thoughts? Thanks.
EDIT- my hero just didnt want to be mounted yesterday. today all is well.
Does it even give the option to mount? Have you seen any of those "Your sd card is damaged" errors?

No it doesnt bring up the charge only, blah blah blah options. I am getting no sd card errors either and in recovery everything works fine. I just backed it all up. Should i try reformatting the card you think?

I would reformat the card and also check your USB cable. Lastly, make sure it's not your computers USB port that's causing the problems. Also, plug the USB cable into the motherboard itself on the back of your computer and if you can, test another device to check the ports as well
You should rule out all hardware problems, before actually having to format the card, but that's just me.

Sounds like a dead filesystem. I recommend formatting/repartitioning your SD card.
Were/are you using A2SD?

Repartition back to all fat32 (select 0's for swap/ext), then the rest for fat32.
See if it mounts. If not, probably a bad SD card.
If it does, repartition again, then upgrade ext2 to ext3.
If it mounts you're gold. If not, you might just have a fried SD card.

How did you go about formatting your card? Did you use a mini sd card adapter and mount your sd card into your computer and format?
Or... did you format your card via recovery, making sure to set swap-size and ext2/3/4 to 0, while leaving your FAT32 set to remainder?
If you did one of the ways above, then try doing the other way and see if that fixes the issue.

i'll try this i did through recovery and did 32 swap. could it be a bad sd even though it'll mount in recovery and in an sd card reader?

Tried the steps listed above. maybe just a bad sd or i'm bound to only mount in recovery. does that mean i'm too old to mount?

Ya know, you might try reinstalling the sdk, and updating HTC sync. Your drivers might have gotten corrupted somehow. I had issues with mine intermittently till I did both of the above.

SD card in, phone won't boot

So yesterday I was trying to find a picture on my phone, but right before I clicked the gallery icon, the phone said "SD card suddenly disconnected" or something like that.
So I rebooted, which is what i usually do when I get a SD card error.
Now the phone won't boot with the SD card in. The computer shows the status bar on the top loading when I use a micro-sd adapter, but it will not respond and restart Explorer if I try to to right-click or access it.
I'd really like to get my pictures back at least.
I would try to put the sd card in another phone and try and see if it works. If it does, make a back up on your pc, then format your card. Then restore the back up.
Don't know if that would fix it but its worth a try.

Yeah had similar thing happen other day. Phone popped up a little msg sayin "can't read sd card so popped it into comp copied to desktop reformatted card copied everything back all good

Yes that works. But it also sometimes does not format the entire card . Such as in the case of an sd ext partitoned card.
Anyone know how to remove the partitions? Like get it back to the factory partitions?
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA Premium App
I guess this card is just going to get put away, the computer won't read it to format it, that's the problem.
If I try to right click the drive, it says not responding the Explorer crashes and restart.
I'm pretty sure I said that in the op.

No. I did try it in another phone, an Evo. I did boot, but said the SD card was damaged and it needed to be formatted.
EVO Shift and XDA app
I tried running chkdsk on it, it also froze up the cmd window.
EVO Shift and XDA app
Well if you can get the SD Card to show in another phone. Place the SD Card into the other phone, boot into recovery and format it from there.
It won't mount or anything in the other phone.
I let the chkdsk run for a while, it finally said it cannot read RAW files.
I found a utility that is supposed to fix this error, I have yet to try it though.
EVO Shift and XDA app
Well the card might actually be dead then. I would still try and see if you can format it some way. BUt from what your describing it might be done.
What rom were you using. I went throught 2 8gig card recently because of this in a really short span of time. I think it might have to do with the card getting partitioned in a way where part of the card isn't readily read anymore

hmm, after I increased the cluster size of my sd card to 2048 (option when formatting sd card using pc, FAT32-clustersize 2048kb) I have seen huge differences.
anyways
If you are copying "huge" files, you should try copying one after one, not all of them at once.

Just placebo...take a test:
Restart your phone and instant after reboot plug in usb and copie any large file(20mb)...you will get 4-5mb/s.
Let your phone connected for 10mins or so and than try to copie same file to phone......only 600-700kb/s.

I never copy files over to my comp, vice versa, using the usb method I use a sd card reader. I find it faster.
The reason why your phone may act faster copying something at the first seconds after boot, may be because your phone just booted, and there are not that much running in the background.
