I tried to Beam a picture to my sister's nexus 4 with my own nexus 4 but my screen just goes back to the homescreen and the file is not transferred. But when my sister sends me a photo, it works. Also the "touch to beam" screen does not show up for either phones but my sister's phone just immediately transfers the photo.
Any help is appreciated!
P.S. We are both running Xylon latest nighly with latest Franco.Kernel.

Yeah.. NFC is not working on any of the N4 devices.
Use Super Beam app from playstore and your free to transfer anything. I get 21Mbps speed.
tried superbeam but it still doesn't work! I wonder what is the problem?

That's a little weird that the "Tap to Beam" screen doesn't come up for your sister; that is almost a security issue. Accidentally bump into another phone and beam a picture without any consent? I wouldn't want that. Check the NFC settings and Beam settings the Settings menu. See if they're both enabled. Check to see if there are some different settings in Xylon, too. I've never used that ROM, but there could be different permissions that NFC & Beam have by default.

Is their an apk that runs so I can use NFC tags without having to enter my password every time? I found one that worked with the Galaxy Nexus, but didn't say anything about the Nexus 4
AOKP has the option under Nfc to enable this. Other than that I can't find anything on it. Been searching for a couple days now.
Apk? You mean an app? I believe Tasker can do this (maybe a plugin like Secure Settings is needed to disable the lock screen)

What app works for the Galaxy Nexus? I've been looking for such an app for a long time.
Is there a mod for NFC to work whilst screen is ON but password not entered?
All I've found is screen off mod - but that seems to get high battery drain.

Finally found a solution that I'm happy with. I used Exposed Installer with NFC Lockscreen Enabler Module and that did the trick. You can even configure it to only work when the screen is on with the password screen being displayed, saves on battery life a lot.

Hey guys,
I just joined up today so bare with me as I am new. My wife just got the Nexus 4 and I currently have the Galaxy Note 2. We are both with tmobile. We were trying to "bump" phones last night to share music. Everytime I tried to share a song from my phone to hers it would get all the way to the point where it would have you click the screen and then pull the phone away but then nothing happened on her end or android google play store would pop open with a error message. Can you not use Android Beam and S-beam together? Do you have to use certain settings?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

You are correct, the two types of beam are incompatible with each other. Not sure of a fix as I have no use for it.
I haven't tried music but I know you need to turn S-beam off and keep NFC on, that's how I was able to send pictures from my Nexus 4 to my friend's Galaxy S3

So what is the point of android beam and S-beam if you can use them together? Just use S-beam with S-beam phones? And Android beam with android beam phones aka isnt that only Nexus phones? That is frustrating. Thanks for your response by the way!!!

What's works for me is after turning off S-Beam, I've turned off and on my Android Beam all over again. Before I did that I was having same old opening Play Store issue. After that everything is normal now.

Waited so long for this only to not install it on my 3113.
Installed it on my GF and daughters tablet already. It is a bit sluggish, but that is expected since neither were clean installs.
Honestly though, I find this update to no longer be needed by me. Since Cody found a way (and whoever else helped) to add the IR-Blaster driver into CM10.2 (JB 4.3), I find this to be a case of too little-too late. That is only my opinion though, of course.
But looking through this update on my GF's tablet I did notice some cool things. Only thing that she dislikes is that now the notification pull down goes over the entire screen, regardless of how many notifications it has. Is there a way to alter this?

Tried multiple times (that used to work for me): Login worked for the forums but not for downloads.
However, it doesn't matter, as the samsung-updates.com site worked fine, and only a one hour (1GB) download (not the 2.8 hours predicted).
Observations:
Chainfire's "CF-Auto-Root" works just fine.
There is no option to enable debugging. Yes, there is! On the "Build number" field in "About device" under "Settings", tap seven times to enable on "Developer options". That permanently adds it to the "Settings" menu!
You can make an ADB connection either via USB or "adbWireless", but "adb devices" on the PC shows the device "offline". Both work! A newer version of the Android SDK was needed on the PC ...
It only supports WiFi channels 1-11, even with the "wifi_country_code" database fix that enables channels 1-13 on v4.1.1.
Other than those and some cosmetic changes and minor additions to "Settings", I see no significant differences.

Observations.
I upgraded via Kies, got a message saying "Access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. Try later" when I was trying the OTA.
This updates the android version to 4.2.2, if you didn't already know.
-The device is not vulnerable to the master key bug.
-The clipboard bug is fixed.. for now.
-Transparent status bar on homescreen and lockscreen
-New wallpapers
-Offline charging indicator slightly changed (color)
-Stock apps (SPlanner/Calendar, Browser, Alarms, Gallery, Memo..) have new UI + New apps: Group Play, Paper artist, Help.
-Device does not overheat now ,comparing to the latest build.
-Battery icon in status bar changes color depending on percentage:
1.Green: 100%-21%
2.Yellow/orange : 20%-11%
3.Red : 10%-6%
4.Warning sign "!" : 5%-1%
Pros: 1. More RAM. 2. Nice weather widget 3. Smartstay feature.
The device is not laggy/sluggish as some users have reported: I upgraded from the latest "UECLK7 4.1.1" build, no factory reset.
Cons: 1. Looks different from previous build, kind of weird - bigger icons and fonts, with more spacing between them. 2. White notification panel which takes over the whole screen. 3. Can't add lockscreen widgets with secure lock (Must use swipe to unlock) 4. Can't add swipe lock with pattern lock, like the previous build. (No shortcuts now, with pattern)

Has anyone been able to get the native SMS app from a 4.3 build working on the 2013 Nexus 7 LTE.? It receives SMS just fine and seems to have a SMS receiver app because i can view any SMS that is sent to its mobile number, but there is no interface to type a response. I tried to transplant the mms.apk from a Nexus 4 4.3 build as i did with my 2012 Nexus 7 3G but after changing the permissions and rebooting the cell radio kept crashing so there is something more involved other than just transplanting the APK and changing the permissions for the 2013 Nexus 7 LTE. Any ideas..? Thanks for your time, it's greatly appreciated.

Tried this, the apk would not install. Does it need to be copied to a specific location on the tablet?
Update: Never mind, copied it to /system/app, set permissions and I'm golden.
This workaround appears to no longer work on 4.4 (official build) as the ability to set an app as the default SMS app is hidden.
Has anyone figured out a further workaround?

As I said attached is the zip to enable SMS functionality on the 2013 Nexus 7 LTE model, the fix was developed by GuyAdams for the Nexus 7 3G 2012 and then ported to the 2013 LTE model. This was made from Android 4.4 (KRT16S).
I can successfully use hangouts to receive and send SMS using this zip.
Just flash while in recovery and reboot, you should be good to go. I or should i say we are NOT responsible if you botch this up.

Do we have a basic or technical explanation as to what caused or why this happened? I'm assuming root is required as well?
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm not sure what you mean why this happened..? This was intentionally done by google, no nexus 7 with mobile connectivity ever had native SMS or Telephony services out of the box. It always needed a "hack" to get it fully working.
Root is not required as all you need is an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery in order to flash the zip. I just boot into my custom recovery but everyone does things differently.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------UPDATE-------------------------------------------------------------------------
a side effect of this is the call setting being exposed (set up google voice and you will gain access) so lets see if we can take it one step more and get the google dialer working for sip calls.. so far it seems to try and dial directly from the people app by selecting a contacts number, but if you try dialing from within the new google dialer it crashes.. Just a heads up, if anyone knows the dependancies needed for the kit kat google dialer please do chime in..
