I am rooted, unlocked bootloader, and I have twrp 2.3 installed. I am currently on stock and I noticed there was an update. If I update the phone in the current state it is in will it mess it up? And I don't care if I loose root I don't use it much

Have you unlocked your boot loader, or want to then I'd do it now. It will permanently lock your bootloader

I would advise you avoid the update. It doesn't bring many improvement for all the trouble it may cause.

Can I root and unlock my XT907 running 98.18.78.XT907.Verizon.en.us?
I want to start flashing ROMs (Specifically CM10.2) and what not, but I don't have root access. Directions are unclear whether I need to root before I unlock the boot loader, or if unlocking will also root my phone. I tried to root several times tonight, but was unsuccessful, I think this is due to the fact that I was not rooted when I accepted the OTA. Or it could be my wife's crappy computer?!?
Please let me know how to proceed. I appreciate the help.

Is there a way to revert to an older firmware...then root and unlock?

Hey guys,
I have TWRP set up and rooted but I hate that little open lock icon when I boot up the phone.
If I relock the bootloader will I still be able to flash mods/roms etc since I have TWRP installed?
Thanks in advance!
Without stock when you relock it will just keep booting back into the bootloader instead of android

I am on stock, just another recovery and rooted.
So it won't boot into bootloader the whole time or will it?

Who cares? You see it for like 2 seconds.

Well I guess I care. Not only because it's irritating but also to get warranty back.

With a custom recovery. Relocking the bootloader should cause the device to fail to boot.
It doesn't matter if you still have a stock rom.
It will fail the locked checks and put you straight into the bootloader
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
just revert to stock with original recovery if worried about it since you cant lock it on custom firmware
Okay thank I know enough, will just let the unlocked lock icon show.

Hi everybody !
Au said in the title, i'd like to know wether rooting the device prevent us to do OTA updates or not.
Thx !

Not sure, I don't think it should.
No, just rooting will not prevent you from getting OTA updates, just don't change the bootloader. However when and if you get an OTA update, it might remove the root.
So I have rooted and flashed twrp recovery. Does this change my bootloader?

You will need to flash the stock firmware file to go back to stock.
But I'm still on stock firmware, I just rooted and flashed twrp, I haven't flashed any roms. Shouldn't I still be able to get the ota?
And with IO Root, which is the way i rooted my phone, doesn't it bypass the bootloader and leave it locked?
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No you should not

I suggest you should download the latest firmware kdz file and flash via flashtool. You cannot update over the OTA. My friends have get hard brick their phones because they have rooted and flashed TWRP. Be careful,
Well on Sprint it worked fine. Can you link me to the file? And is getting back to stock the same?
The Sprint forum doesn't have a thread on returning to stock

As far as i know there is a possible root. Is it XT912, or XT902? That'd be helpful information. Also your probably ruining jellybean(4.1.2) which you can root. There is a forum explaining the root process for a razr m using motochopper.

Hello. I'm on the new system version 98.18.94 and I was curious if you guys think I should use the droid razr m utility to downgrade to an earlier version so I can root it. Is it suggested that I do that or should I wait for a root method for my current version?

There is no DG.

Yes there is. I have downgraded using the utility before. It deletes everything but I have a backup on my SD card

Using the utility before doesn't mean you can use it now. On this latest OTA (and I think the one before), they got rid of the ability to downgrade. There are many people that have tried to downgrade and they get a fastboot fail, but since you're the ONLY one that seems to have this magical ability, go ahead and try it. :good:

That utility is for 2 OTAs ago. If you use it on .94, you risk a brick.
I've bricked my phone before while I was on this update. I used the utility to revive my phone. It worked just fine.

That utility was designed for two OTAs ago. So, if you used it, you would be on that system version if your bootloader was unlocked or you would have a soft brick and fastboot fail if your BL was locked. If you took the utility and replaced the .xml with .94 (which I've seen some people do), then that's why it would be working now. If you didn't replace the file, then I call BS because your system version is still .94.

I'm not confused. If you tell us straight, then we can help a lot more.
Here's how it goes:
- Utility 1.10 was designed for 98.12.4(4.1.1) that came out early this year.
- Utility 1.20 was designed for 98.15.66 or 98.16.1(4.1.2)(I can't remember the exact version) and it had the BL unlock tool in it
There has been no updated utility for the last two OTAs because Matt didn't think it was worth it. Some guys over in the HD forum updated the HD utility to include the newest firmware, but there's been nothing like this for the M.
Okay so I have the razr m utility 1.20 and I tried downgrading with rsd lite recently which obviously didn't work. But it was stuck in ap fastboot mode so I used his utility to flash the stock 4.1.2 system, kernel, radio, etc. It worked just fine. I don't know why, I don't know how, but it worked.

Yeah, but it didn't downgrade you because you're still .94. It probably flashed the baseband (which is possible on a locked BL), which cleared the fastboot flash fail, but it obviously didn't flash the system or kernel because you're still on .94.

You fastbooted ...94 boot.img, not ...66 (or ...78) boot.img as you are locked.
I had to re-update my phone to .94 again after that whole thing
