Hi Boys!
Cotulla posted in twitter some comments speaking about he will abandone the HD2 developers soon because the hardware of this device is very poor actually. Also he said that WP8 and W8 ports mayble never will be released.

No.
If Cotulla has closed the HD2 on WP8 and more systems,i will sale my device
I say all
Please,do not abandon the HD2
Ur question "@CotullaCode, If you abandoned the HD2, you will release the source code of WP8, W8 and IOS unfinished port?".
Cotulla answer "@FranZeta93 Unfortunately, it's not possible".
AFAIK these systems are not open source and the source code can not be published because it infringes copyrights manufacturers. Cotulla correct answer to the question that he could not share the source code for these systems. In this case you should not ask about releasing source code...
sorry for google translate ;p

"There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.

But still, they haven't made any statement in context to already released phones
I doubt they will add support for released phones.
Wildfire is EOL this wont apply to us but probably only there up and coming phones.
Thank you HTC, and well done.
But is that confirmed? lets hope that not some Facebook user in some prank pretending to be the HTC CEO.
There is nothing yet on there press page http://www.htc.com/uk/press/2011.html
It's real , but sadly it won't happen to already released phones

That's really a great injustice to the already released devices. (if it is so)
@ bharatgaddameedi, i just read your "Rooting Android: The War Between Carriers and Consumers" article.
Very interesting...
I'm no expert, so let me ask the question, is Android not built on Linux? If so do Linux not have terms which state that while there software systems can be modified and used for profit it must remain completely open at all times.
If that is the case would manufacturers who use Linux derived operating systems not be in violation of those terms by locking the OS?

Normaly alpharev only works on rooted devices, which in our case is the problem in the first place. I know that HCDRjacob said something else, but I wouldn't put to much hope on it..

Have anyone found kernel source for this model?
i have seen discussion on roms without gpl, and is this model released with kernel source available?
I believe Google has not released source for Honeycomb yet. That is the answer I got when I asked the same question over at thriveforums.org.

indeed google have, and kernel source needs to be posted, or roms on this forum seems to be illegal.. xda don't allow roms with a gpl kernel without source code linked, if its posted..
so thats pretty sad for toshiba.
even android 3.2 source is available, so toshiba thrive has to release their source now.. but 3.1 will do fine to begin with.
This is how it works. Various parts of the software are licensed by different entities. So the Android source includes Google's code and anything Toshiba does is affected. Android is under and open source license, but it is built on top of GNU/Linux. The Linux kernel is under the Greater Public License which requires the source to be distributed or accessible by request online when the binary is distributed. Typically as companies go though their code making sure they only release source they are supposed to and don't accidentally release proprietary code it may take them a while to post it. Regardless it must be posted or things get a little hot when advocates press for it.
exactly, xda rules says no uploads on information roms including gpl kernels without source included..
so its kinda funny if toshiba continue not to post it. maybe i should request it from toshiba somewhere..
The Kernal has been requested multiple times over on the Toshiba run forum. Users have even started to pull out the legal aspect of it citing the 30 day requirement and expamples of HTC getting into hot water when they passed that deadline.
I think Toshiba is just now realizing they HAVE to post it.
I started a thread over on Toshiba's forum and indeed did explain that they have 30 days to release. "Jim" said he would look into it but then came back and made it sound like "contact our legal team".
All,
Since today's announcement of the WP8 features, I immediately began to think of the homebrew community. I think we should start a funding for the homebrew pioneers so that they can get a WP8 device to test with.
What does everyone think of this?

Hi there,
Before any donations are given, clear objectives need to be set with approximate timescales, This way clear expectations are set up and there's not room for donators to say things like "You got the device already 5 minutes ago, why isn't it hacked yet????????"
Below are some guidelines for consideration in how the thread is constructed and managed, this is not conclusive but for guidance
The developer needs to be made aware, approve of the action, and post in the thread (preferably post 1 or 2 so that it's clearly visible) his paypal/other account for accepting donations, the account info should NOT be posted by someone who is not the developer (unless it links directly to a post by the developer containing the same info, with some text like "this is the donation info, check <link to post>post xxxx by developer</link to post> for more info") - this way there's no question of authenticity and where the donations are going.
In the same post as above, the developer should detail his intentions once the device/software/product/etc is obtained, and if possible a rough timeline
The developer should have at least one or two major contributions to the community under his belt before any large donation thread is made.
There should be a clear statement from the developer and/or the thread starter that there is absolutely NO obligation on the developers part to release a final product. Although this is what everyone wants, the entire reason for a donation drive in the first place is because it's not the easiest thing in the world to do. This means it may not even be possible in the long run. There's a great potential for hurt feelings and "bad juju" if people donate with the expectation that a final product WILL 100% be released. Donations should be seen as support towards a best-effort on the part of the developer.
it is obviously early days in the world of wp8 development but with the looming release of wp8 and the new devices it will bring, exciting times lay ahead.
Please do not post in this thread unless it is specifically development related and any questions regarding the content/structure of this thread should be made via pm to me or any other senior moderator.
Greetz.
Edit: this thread will be occasionally cleaned of all off topic chat, don't be offended if your post disappears
In my Opinio we should "all" Focus one Phone.
Like the legendary HD2 is used by the most people here (i guess), which provides the most costumization depending on rom's etc.
I think a Phone like the HTC Zenith would be a nice follower of the HD2

Just checked HTCdev's kernel source page and there is no source code out for 4.2.2, even though it has been officially released. Are HTC trying to break the GPL?

Not really trying to break GPL. Reckon they're just using legal roadblocks to delay the release. They want it closed source for as long as possible. It's theirs and they don't want rival company's discovering how they've done things. It just means developers like us suffer too.

This thread is pointless. HTC always takes months to release kernel sources. Nothing new. So a thread like this adds nothing and can only lead to arguing.
If developers have source code, they will make 100% functional roms. I try sending multiple times emails to LeEco asking for this, but the server always give me spam reply. Because of that I've created a thread in LeEco forum.
Please help doing a coment and voting in the poll.

IMPORTANT UPDATE! Now we have a petition in change.org to do the max press possible to the brand. And the signs are for ALL the devices with Qualcomm processors.
Here it is!: https://www.change.org/p/leeco-letv...ents_action_panel_wrapper&utm_medium=copylink
great specs but the development is not so good. if they only release the sources.
Someone mentioned that they are releasing sources in September.

Yup, in the official forum, but who knows if is true or a fake...?
I read that they are selling these phones at less than cost as a loss leader to sell people their content services. If so, I very much doubt they are interested in supporting the dev community as that makes it easier for people to get rid of their apps and services from the devices.
We need to achieve that fast!!
Did you get source code from Le? Why don't you share for us?
Anyone has updates about the source code questions?
I didn't find any update on the change.org site.
BTW' we need more votes!!
I sign!
More people need to sign!!
does anyone confirm source code release soon???
i signed.
Signed.
I got response but still no plan for releasing...

I have not (yet) bought the phone b/c there will be no proper development in the absence of a source code release. I will probably go for the Axon 7 although I would like to have a bigger screen. (I will also not buy the Le Pro 3 although it is an interesting phone. Developer-unfriendly phone companies like LeEco are an absolute no-go for me. So sad ... )
Signed
Every tweet they post about their USA launch should get a comment about how their crappy source code policy is...
I doubt they will release the source code
Do not purchase le Max2. Most of the phones have finger print sensor issues.

Do you have new news about letv's codes? Why didn't share with us about it?
Maybe the US launch change something I really like the phone my fingerprint has no issue except some times unresponsive but I only had it for a month LOL so fingers crossed
Maybe they'll release the source code and the worth of this phone will double
