as in title...there is any way to let the charge go faster when plugged in a pc usb? i remember that for my old hd2 there was something but really dont know what was that
Had on a second a pc/laptop usb port will only supply between 500-1000ma , when the S4 charger can supply over 2000ma, so you are not going to get fast charging from a pc/laptop
John.
That is a feature that is in the kernel. Ktoonsez kernel is awesome and has that feature amongst mammy others. It all depends on your device though, which s4 are you using?
I have gt 9505 with foxhound rom with adam kernel
I know usb pc has lower Power but i think it cam be faster than now...mostly game i play drain much more power than pc can recharge. ..had same problem with hd2 and solved with fast charge who disable data usb connection...probably i dont remember everything but was working great

Is the nexus 4 capable of fast charging the battery via USB? I tried different kernels/ROMs, but the toggle is not working and a search on xda didn't answer my question.

It is capable, for example franco kernel now supports enabling it from his kernel app. Some of them requires a little more work where you have to enable it by writing to a file. Just depends on what Kernel your on.

I've tried it.. I'm on Franco Kernel, tried enabling it through his app, but no luck
I also read it somewhere that people are getting problems using franko's app for enabling fast charge

Once you enable it you have unplug and plug in the cable. The fast charge only works when you're charging it on your computer and any USB port besides the wall outlet. When you do have fast charge enabled, the battery stats should read "XX% Charging (AC)" if fast charge is not enabled the parentheses should be (USB).

I actually have a question that may be off topic. Does the charging time matter whether you are using a USB 3.0 cable rather than a USB 2.0 cable or it doesn't matter cause the charging power depends on the adapter you use? Any chance that would help with Franco kernel?

It doesn't matter. The Nexus 4's charging port will draw the amount of power it needs and that's it. USB 2.0 and 3.0 are just data transfer speeds. No relation in charging devices.

And usually it'll draw lower and lower as it gets closer to full charge (ie: if you're at 20% you're more likely to pull 800mA off a 2.1A charger than at 75% and up [which tends to be around 500-600]), also factoring in the actual drain of the phone being on. The phone is pretty smart about not risking to overcharge itself.
Works perfectly with Franco kernel

Thanks man, that actually solved my problem
I must be doing something wrong, but can't figure out what
I wanted to enable fast charge, cause my device drains more battery than it charges, I installed the "fast charge" app from the play store, but it always says my kernel is unsupported.
I've already tried these kernels:
-franco (franco kernel updater)
-fugumod (fugumod updater)
-trinity (trinity kernel toolkit)
-faux (fauxClock)
-timur
and I've searched in each app for a place to switch it on but couldn't find it anywhere.
I'm running cyanogenmod 10.1
the tablet is rooted and unlocked.
anyone any idea what could be the problem?
thanks for your time!
Give NCX Kernel a go, I'm nearly 100% sure (99.9999%) that has fastcharge enabled.

so far, I've been unable to find a zip with that NCX kernel, so I could flash it, can you provide me with a link or something?
I only find .img files, and I'm unsure what I have to do with them :s
Don't waste your time. If you tread the reviews, your problem is common with that app. Download Trickster Mod and use that asp.
Also, fast charge isn't going to have any effect if you're plugged into an ac outlet.

Like najaboy said, fast charge has no effect using an ac charger. Only speeds up charging if your charging via USB.

Does fast charge via USB even exist for the nexus 7, because so far this seems like some sort of vapourware joke that doesn't exist.
My device is shot, the headphone jack has gone bad, and now regardless of what I do I will always get charging from USB. It won't connect to the PC, and won't power devices from an otg cable, I even made a fast charge usb cable that tricks the device into thinking its an ac power source..... It works with everything but this, so its safe to assume that if indeed there is no fast charge I will take great pleasure in smashing this to bits.
Has to be up there with the first generation Xbox 360 as one of the worst build quality devices ever made.

And even then only if the active USB device (e.g. powered hub) is also designed to not current clamp or fault-open at currents above 500 mA. It takes two to tango.
Even when it does work, it's nowhere near as fast as a 2A AC adapter, btw.
USB 3 can output 900mA

Any change to resolve this issue?
I have a 2A usb car charger, but is I use GPS programs (like waze) , battery drain in too high , and charging current is not enough.
Any Fast Charge supporting kernel could be the solution.
It worked very well in my previous Galaxy Nexus phone.
Any idea?

A kernel with fast charge is inapplicable to your situation. You simply need ausb cable that had the d+ and d- pins shorted.

I have a UK I9505 S4 rooted, but on stock kernel and rom.
I use the device in the car with a Pioneer AppRadio2 & ARLiberator that connects my phone via the Samsung MHL2.0 adapter.
The problem is that as the USB charge (2amp charge for AC simulation) goes through the MHL adapter the phone only ever sees it as USB charging and I cant charge the device faster than I drain it.
Does anyone know if any of the current kernels in development for the S4 have the Chad Froebel Fast Charging patch applied?
I would ask in the dev channel but forum restrictions say I cant as the right question in the right location because I am a new user *dumb*
not yet it's a new phone wait a month or 2 and this place would be full of wonderful choices

that's because the phone is not charging fast enough on my s3 the charger is 1000mah while the usb charge is 475mah so fast charging made it go up to 900mah and ur problem is quite the same as him
Any news on this, sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but I am desperate for fast charge to be enabled when at work and I charge my phone whilst connected to my pc!

If you have the Snapdragon variant, ktoonsez kernel had fast charge enabled.

Thanks for letting me know I am running KT kernel now, my usb charge has increased from 450mah to 1000mah and charges quite quickly just via USB2.
The only down side of that is you have to disable fast charge in order to use file transfer or it as a modem
It works though, thank you again. Link here to anyone wanting it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297379
I have finally switched the kernel on my UK Vodafone S4 to one that supports Fast Charge, the same one as above (Ktoonez).
I also switched to the wanamlite 1.4 rom for better all round performance!
In terms of charge rates I used a charge measure app to see what was going on and a standard USB delivered 450-470mA. When I plugged in my Samsung MHL 2.0 adapter to get HDMI out, that dropped to 300mA from the same source!
With fast charge enabled I can now get a full 1000mA with the MHL adapter plugged in, which was my main issue, so I am happy!
I just wish the Adam Kernel that comes with Wanam's roms supported fast charge switching as its an awesome kernel!
Hi All
I noticed that my charge time is very long even when i am on airplane mode ,, is there any way to enable fast charge or quick charge provided by qualc devices my device is (i9515 blackedition) rotted with stock firm ware and i know their is option called fast charge on note 4 so is their any option like that on s4 or even to enable quick charge 1.0 by qualc by using secret dialing code ... thanks in advance
******Sorry.. Should Have Posted This In Question & Answer Section*******
Hey guys.
I was wondering if their is a kernel that support USB Fast Charging.
I have a Pioneer AppRadio which connects via MHL to mirror my phone to the radio in the car.
The phone loses a great amount of battery through this even though the MHL is powered.
However the phone sees the MHL as a USB charging device and therefore limits charging to 500ma which sucks.
Other phones have kernel support for USB fast charging and they can charge at the rate of 1000ma - 2000ma so that they can charge the phone and use MHL.
Someone please help me solve this problem.
Thanks!

Their is not.
SpeedMod charges faster than the stock kernel.
Actually NX kernel supports that.
I do not beleive it supports mhl though.
And its for cm 10.1

Not sure if there was fast charge in NX tweaks app. Just to control the current..
It is possible to charge faster, but I prever not too, It produces more heat and can damage your device.
NX-Kernel by Neo allows you to do that.
I think this only works with the 230V/115V charger, computers can't charge faster than 500mA, USB 2.0 doesn't allow you to charge with a higher current.
Thanks for the replies..
So why is it that other phones have Fast Charge kernels but the Note does not (okay only 1 CM kernel) ?
Can any devs support this?

Note is doomed from the very beginning...
So let's make this very clear. The Galaxy Note can (and will) use more power than it can ever draw from the charger ?
Doesn't the official charger somehow trick the device into using the full 1 Amp of current instead of the half amp ?
PROBLEM SOLVED
for some reason my new nexus 4 charges on USB mode no matter what charger i use, now here is the weird part...
i have 2 motherboards, one from a previous nexus 4 and when i drop the motherboard into the phone without changing usb port or anything, it will show it is charging on AC for the proper chargers (Wall chargers).
can the motherboard really control the charging rate? i thought it would be a usb port problem, but nope, works fine on my older motherboard which has Carbon 4.3.1 , my newer one is running Carbon 4.4 , ill try to make a nandroid and flash another rom to check if its just rom (which wouldnt make much sense but whatevs).
any input, tips, or advice would be awesome
btw, im using the default battery option in the settings app to check if it is USB or AC , so if anyone knows any apps to confirm rate that would be cool too
UPDATE: tried CM 11, yep it was my rom (carbon 4.4) and or kernel (Faux U31), i wonder why though

yeah i've tried enabling fastcharge on faux but it doesnt seem to do anything really, something's probably up with carbon 4.4 its still new and the carbon team's server is down right now so there wont be new builds till atleast this weekend, i guess i can suck it up intill i figure out my problem its only charging which normally i only do while i sleep, if i switch to any other rom it has to be feature filled like carbon, carbon basically has a little bit of everything (before 4.4 update which broke compatibilty) thats why i like it.
EDIT: Redownloaded Carbon 4.4 (latest nightlty is 2/5/14 as of now) and i Didn't flash faux and AC works perfect... im slowly but surely solving my own problem, im gonna redownload faux and see if that is what is causing the USB speed chatting
Update: found the solution to my problem, it was faux kernel, but in the sense that if you leave fast charging on FORCE AC it won't do ****, it will actually then make everything charge at USB speed, so put it on disabled like I needed to do.
Mh but i had the same problem, but on stock!
It turned out that my ac to usb adapter was like too weak for the phone or whatever, amyways if i use the adapter of my panasonic digicam, it works just fine
