You need to search and read.

Do you say that to every one? I asked a question not if I should read. The matter the fact is that what I have been doing but all I have see is how this version blocks root locks boot loader and stops you from downgrading. Just want like to find out if there will be a way to root this. That's all I want to do.

The answer should be quite clear. Time. Time is all that matters now and it's indefinite to say when or even IF there will be another root method. Dan and Adam have stated before multiple times that the GS4 is an extremely secure device. I wouldn't be surprised if the holidays come around with nothing to show but a lot of research and heart ache.

I remember reading something similar with the last major update to the HTC Incredible 2, then bam. It came. I am hoping that one can be realized by mid august.

They are working on a fix as we speak.

I've been reading, that people that are already rooted and used voodoo ota. Rootkeeper and allowed the mf3 update to go through, were able to reroot their device. But again as always do it at your own risk.

System update

I just got a message just a few momenta ago on my phone to download a update. I didn't take it but wanted to ask, it says it was an update for 2.3 gingerbread and said it was for 4.22.651.1
I'm puzzled because my phone says I'm running 4.22.651.2 and thought I was screwed out of being able to root.
Can any one help me understand this, and let me know if I'm capable of rooting cause I've done my homework and realized that I'm just S.O.L. for now
Or am I?

I never take any updates ever. Updates are plots to make you hate your phone ie NO ROOT

I was rooted and accepted the ota... And I'm still rooted. Just flash recovery and then superuser and you'll be set.

I've never accept an OTA, but want to. I unrooted to go to Sprint, the phone is being swapped, but would rather have Gingerbread until then. When I check for updates it finds none even though it has 2.2 on it now. Any idea why?

The reason I ask is WHEN they finally find a way to root 2.3.3 I don't want to be kicking myself in the butt for taking the OTA. I don't know if the update has anything that would make it harder for me in the future.

No, all they did basically was update the kernel. If you don't take it, your battery is gonna be draining way too fast. There is nothing in 4.24 that isn't in 4.22 as far as being able to root it goes.
Plus if you don't take it you won't be able to use netflix either... I dunno if you use such things lol.
Thanks the info! I'm gonna go download it right now. You've been a great help.

The evo must have just been released today

Since the new ota root this forum is like it was a year ago...how do I tether, how do I root, whats a good rom, how do I flash, I think I bricked my phone, I'm stuck at bootloader..etc
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yup. That's pretty much in a nutshell how these things work around here. No sense in getting particularly agitated about it, if nothing else this may be a good chance to take a breather from the site for a bit while things settle down. At the very least just stick to the development forum to keep tabs on the latest roms and kernels.
What is root?

about rooting

I just wanted to give my opinion about rooting, I'm sure a lot of people like to do so, but on this device I don't think that you need to, I did a root on my .gs1 because of lag, then my arc needed more then root lol but my sgs 3 so far the best phone that I ever seen, not perfect, but as for lag, battery life, speed its top!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
There a a ton of reasons to root besides lag.
I have an app that requires root that keeps my clock in sync with the actual atomic clock time. The system clock will, over time, be too fast or too slow which means that eventually my phone is a few minutes off.
I have an app that requires root that is used to freeze/quarantine bloatware.
I have an app that requires root that allows me to backup not only my applications, but the application data as well.
I also enjoy root for custom ROMs and kernels that have less lag/stutter than the phone normally does (and yes, this still applies to the Samsung Galaxy S3).
There are always reasons to root.
I understand, I'm not saying not too, for me if the phone is good I'm leaving it stock
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Root no >> then no Nandroid and No TB no Ad Blocker . No push apps .

Rooting has absolutely nothing to do with reducing lag or anything at all performance wise.
Rooting just gives you superuser permissions on your device.
Even if you are running an octo core phone with 5gb of ddr3 ram, rooting still offers benefits.

Galaxy Phones are hard to hardbrick (not revivable through simple software and/or a 2$ USB-Jig)
By following the instructions in the General section ('following' meaning 'reading', not 'assuming' or 'trying') you're on a quick and painless root.

Best Buy. Custom rom question.

So I heard the Samsung reps at best buy can change your phone from mf3 to whatever it is that allows roms.
What should I tell the rep to do so I can get it done?

You should follow it.
Samsung is highly against rooting so any of their vendors only carry the most recent kernels on board for recovery flashing. That being said you'll only get mf3 from best buy or anywhere else that's officially associated with Samsung and does recoveries. Just hope for a complete mf3 unlocking method to come out hopefully soon.

[Q] Typically how long for root to be developed?

Just updated to 4.4.2 from a rooted 4.2.2 and lost root when I accepted the OTA update.
Being new to android I am wondering how long it typically take for a new root to be released?
I moved to android from iPhone because I was tired of waiting months for a jailbreak every time an updated ios was released.

There's honestly no way of telling how long. Seriously... it can be a few days or even months. It all depends how long it takes to figure out.
Your best bet is to check the xda LG G2 forum for your specific carrier. Check it daily and someone will post about the progress. But don't post on the forum yourself.

There IS no typical it's not like there's a timer or anything. The HTC One X on At&T went 6 MONTHS without Root.
Root will happen when it happens or maybe not at all.
Kingoapp wrote me back, this is what they said:
As to 4.4 firmware, the known root methods are all via flashing custom recovery, which requires a lot manual operations and involves huge risks. So, I am sorry, it is not supported.
So it looks like a no go there....

You should not be commenting if you don't understand the process and efforts needed to figure it out, you can throw all the ROM cooks at it you want, will still take however long it will take to figure out, so sit down, chill the F out and wait, or learn Android ROM cooking and do it yourself, you aren't going to rush those that are doing this on their own time for free
