Format internal sd - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I did this with my s3 and it made everything fresh, install a new ROM and back to clean. Can I do the same with my s4? I went through cwm, format sdcard.

hehe everyone is still sleeping, yes you can do it, your recovery has the format INTERNAL SDCARD option, umm you are talking about the internal right?
Just make sure you are formatting the correct sdcard...be careful.
The Ax says good luck.

Yeah the internal. Will I have more space if I format then install like a cyanogen ROM or something? I have only 8 gigs on the 16 gig phone

That is not going to help gain the internal storage space sorry, I don't not care what you format your internal is going to see maybe 12 max, samsung has a hold on 4-5gig period, this is what you asking correct?
The Ax says, your welcome.

Correct. Even 12 is better than my 6 I have now.

You did good, you should be ok now. Happy flashing.

Anyway, what's up with this 5gb holdback? No fix or anything for this? I have an ext 16gb but can't figure out how to format it to work as a internal SD.

the locked bootloader stoppers us from re-partitioning the phone for more storage, and i agree its bullcrap sammy holds out SO much....even their stock odin ROM is less than 2 gigs....admittedly thats all compressed but still cmon man why advertise 16 and only give 9-12

I'm not really new to flashing/rooting etc, but still learning. Will the bootloader be able to be unlocked? Are all s4 bootloaders locked?

External storage error

Hi. I was on a plane last night after the longest week ever on a trip.
I have a perfectly functioning nexus 10. I downloaded a flashable zip of clockwork touch recovery instead of the non touch one I was using.
Stupidly I flashed it and rebooted and ever since I get the gallery error of now external storage. Google play doesn't work either.
In setting the nexus knows I have 13gb available and I get no error messages when I boot into recovery.
A pain in the butt for sure and I am not sure how to undo my stupidity.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I tried reflashing. I tried fastboot -w. I tried a few other things but to no avail.
I'd prefer to just blast the entire partition structure and start over
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I'll redo the boot loader tomorrow. Maybe flash the Ubuntu preview then back.
Thoughts?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
So far no luck. I've relocked and unlocked. Changed recoveries. Installed ROM after ROM and still same error. I'm completely at a loss
Anyone have any ideas?

Did you try fix permissions in recovery? It's worth a shot.
I dunno why flashing any version of CWM would cause this though.
I did yes sir. I tried 100 million things. In the storage section of settongs the tablet knew it was a 16gb. But just wouldn't let it be mountable or usable.

Its almost like it doesn't know its partition size or where it is.

I am having the same issue, not able to access Google play or the internal storage even after reinstalling to factory image many times. Have you got it resolved from Samsung. Please update
Hi. Sorry for the delay.
Sadly I contacted Samsung about it and it was officially broken. Happily Samsung repaired it under warranty for me. It was the motherboard that died.

It's possible to extract the stock recovery from the Odin image and flash it independently. Check it out in this post. Be warned that it's only for AT&T S4's and it's possible to brick your device pretty badly if you flash the recovery to the wrong place.

yes, you will have to use the odin, and then root again. unless you're running a custom rom, then you will have to full wipe your device.

What Version ROM am I on?

How or where do I look in this phone to see what version of a ROM I have installed?

Go Into your sd card and find the ROM zip. That will tell you. You shouldn't be flashing if you don't even know what you are flashing.

I know what I am flashing bro. The problem was that I had to do a nandroid restore and I couldn't remember if that restore was on version 5 or 6 of Sacs Rom. I figured it was something simple but I guess not. It always used to show up on HTC.

If you read the thread before flashing, you should know what version of the rom you are on. Always pay attention to what version you are on. Take a mental note of it or write it down in the future. That rom has manyyy versions. I almost wonder if you skipped a step or flashed an update without the rom, but if you did, I wonder why you aren't bricked.

The only thing I did was dirty flash from ver. 5 to ver. 6
Sent from my Galaxy S4
Regardless of knowing what rom you flashed, seriously humor us and look at your sd card. If you have to, sort the folder by date added.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4
If the build prop wasn't modified to show the custom Rom version you can't tell from about device. The only real way to know is to look at version 5 to 6 change log. Find something that was added into version 6 and test it. If it works you are on 6. If not you are 5.

How does one fully wipe the device from EVERYTHING?

I 'm having a problem with a Note 3 Keyboard that I did not ever install. It keeps coming back. I think it's embedded in my phone somehow. I've tried wiping everything with factory reset, both from the ROM and recovery. I've used PIT files with firmware, and I have used the file manager in TWRP to wipe out as much as possible. However when I lboot up, I still find files with older dates on them from like a week ago. How does anythign stay behind? I don't understand this and I want this B.S. app off of my phone. It's not a legit app. Samsung told me there is was never a note 3 keyboard OTA for any model of S4 and that it should not be there. Can someone tell me how to really get my device back to 100$% OEM standards please!
I need help. This note 3 keyboard is eating my battery. It used to last all day, now I have to charge it two or three time a day. Please tell me how to truly wipe my device back to OEM. Thanks.
Backup what you need from internal. Wipe internal SD card and Odin back to stock unrooted.
