I'm not sure if this is a ROM related or the no audio patch i installed. I'm running paranoidandroid with a .33 radio and i had to flash the tmobile no audio patch, otherwise i will no audio during calls.....
Whenever i get a call while tethered i'll drop to HSPA+ for the duration of the call but as soon as i hang up it goes back to LTE. I'm not sure if this is related to the no audio patch or what. Is there a fix for this ??
Not related to the voice patch. T-Mobile is using lte not VoLTE aka voice over lte, this means the phone rolls back to HSDPA for voice calls...you cannot fix a hardware configuration of T-Mobile unless you plan on upgrading their towers.

tmobile doesn't support voice over LTE afaik. so this seems normal
EDIT: ace beat me to it
dang.... that's not what i wanted hear.
Thanks guys very quick response .
Actually, will the phone support that protocol if and when tmobile launches voice over LTE? Or will i need something new by that time.

Is there a way to force CyanogenMod (or even the stock rom) to stay at HSPA? My phone has issues going from 3G to HSPA and staying there (happens regardless of rom). Is there a way to make it stick on HSPA? I'm not too worried about the battery life, it's already pretty abysmal.
Thanks!
I don't know if there is. The reason it does that is to keep unnecessary bandwidth from being used by the phone. It's a quick switch.
Edit: there is the old method of dialing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting wcdma only, but I think it still switches between 3G/4G
There is no way, it's dependent on cellular carrier and not on the phone AFAIK.
The question is - why would you want to? What are the "issues" you're seeing?

my phone is refusing to go up to 4g (HSPA) in a reasonable amount of time. It takes on average 45-60 seconds for it to move up. It's done that no matter which rom I use and it's annoying as pages won't load until it goes to HSPA
Bad. OK, as a very harsh and bad semi-solution you could run a ping once in 5 sec, that would keep your phone's data connection constantly active. But it's no good solution.

I have the same question, but my my touch 4g stays in E and doesnt want to go to H, we send it to htc service for power button replacement, it came like that from htc, now another issue can not hear anything but myself. strange, should I send it back? its been like 4 months.
I am on straight talk and my other phone runs on H with the same sim card

For some reason I cant find it in the settings, any idea where to look for it? I just downgraded to 2.21

Hey all,
Recently (in the past month or so) my phone stopped ringing on my end when I place outgoing calls. I use csipsimple and VoIP, but regular phone calls exhibit the same issue in my testing. I've changed my radio from .33 to .48 and now down to .27, but still see no difference. I've done a full data wipe as well.
I'm currently running the latest PA with GApps. Any help (at least as to where else I can look/troubleshoot) would be welcomed.

That seems like what your phone is supposed to do. When the phone is ringing why would you want to call out? Shouldn't you accept it?

Flashing LTE on Android 4.3 will not work since it is completely unsupported so you may want to change radio back to normal since that is the problem.

I have fixed the issue after numerous calls to LG and Verizon wireless. I am so disappointed with both companies. The vocoder software is faulty. from dialpad press ##PROGRAM980 and SEND to place call, the service code is 000000 then you goto Voice SO select each tab and change from Wild Card to 13 QCELP. Restart phone and its fixed

Wildcard lets it switch between voice codecs. QCELP 13 is the old 13Kbs voice codec replaced with EVRC which was replaced with SMV inn turn replaced with CDMA2000 for 4G networks(4GV successor of 3GGP2 type[Qcelp-SMV] codecs). 4GV is dynamically prioritized per network. EVRC-B is half and quartet speed. We do not have any later options, just QCELP and EVRC. QCELP is uncompressed 13Kbs, EVRC 8 is compressed with but with higher quality codec at 8Kbs. Default is EVRC8 home and roaming, page is wildcard to auto select best for the particular network. The only thing it may fix is using a tower that is overloaded with bad compression. Note that forcing the specification can cause more overload to the 3G signal, in turn, just making things worse for everyone. If I'm not mistaken, the way towers and plans are set up, a 4GV codec would cause using voice com to eat into data plan. I do not think most carriers are set up to sniff the data type to determine if it is indeed voice data, hence we don't have awesome voice quality that we are more than capable of having. Hope this helps.
I dont have Voice So in my menu.
It says Verizon Hidden menu

Am I looking somewhere wrong?

It will. We have no 4G codecs. Unless you have problem with the default codec on your towers, this will not help, only hinder quality. I have no issues with default codec or quality at and around my location. Baltimore to D.C..
When I tried this the settings didn't survive a reboot.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Mine stuck even after a reboot
I tried this on mine (Malladus) and wife's (stock), both (..phones) are fine after reboots and all.
Just can't yet confirm any differences.
QCELP-13 worked perfectly
EVRC 8k gave me some of the digital clipping type noise
EVRC-B works good and has minimal clipping
So the QCELP seemed to worked best over all.
Also, no issues with the settings surviving a reboot.
I'm test-driving this, too. Somebody at Android Central forum reported a possible impact on battery life. Anybody seeing anything like that?
this worked for me. The call quality still isn't the best but I am not getting that annoying noise anymore.

I only had my s7 edge for about a week but my HD voice doesn't work at all oddly.
My s5 it replaced worked fine. The people I talk to can call others and HD shows but me it doesn't nor does mine.
I just not sure if that big update broke it maybe or something else so wanted to see if others are working?
I don't have a sprint store near I can go play with them at :/

Talking Sprint to Sprint. So your S7 Edge running latest update, the HD is working on?
Do you know what model phones you've talked to on the other end?
I'm calling someone with an LG G5. They can call someone else with an LG G5 and it works but talking to me it doesn't.
Not sure if it's some device compatibility issue (which would be new), my phone, my account or what.
My S5 never had issues so trying to figure out what the deal is.
I even traveled to a different part of town to get on another tower to test, still no joy on S7 Edge
Amazes me that all the S7 owners and no one could check this :/
I bet if this was about root people would be all over it lol.
That said, solved the problem.
It is related to WiFi calling. Turning it off alone isn't enough to enable HD (despite on older phones just turning off WiFi calling it worked fine.).
On this phone you have to actually turn it on and go in and "deactivate" it which also unprovisions the account. After that HD started working again.
I personally consider this a SW bug but who knows. I also think it's dumb they can't do HD while on a wifi call. It has tons more BW available yet you can't do an better codec?? Every other provider only gives you HD when you doing VOIP but sprint takes it away lol.
This may be old news too, but Google Voice cannot be activated either for HD voice to work. That said, I haven't had it work for me yet either on the S7 Edge, and I don't have Google Voice anymore.

I still can't get HD Voice calls to initiate unless I am using Wi-Fi calling. Anyone else having this issue?
Now that you mention it, my HD voice hasn't been working either. I did deactivate it, I didn't really use it anyway and did a radio reset. Will have to test again see if it works. I haven't tried a call since deactivation of it yet
In this context (Sprint) what's the difference between HD calling & WiFi calling? I'd naively assumed they were one and the same...
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA-Developers mobile app
HD voice is a higher quality call. It sounds much better and filters out background noise. WiFi calling is a way for your phone to use your wifi network to make phone calls. WiFi calling simply replaces the network with wifi and can be used for standard calls or HD voice calls.
My problem is that hd voice calls never seem to work unless I'm on wifi calling.
Me too en4cer, that's why I thought they were the same thing... The "HD" icon only shows up when Wifi calling is turned on. In what other situations *should* it show up? Sprint to Sprint calls over mobile network? Other carriers? Depending on the other party's phone & coverage at the time of the call?

Yes, it *should work when making Sprint to Sprint calls and both callers are in LTE coverage. It's not a WiFi feature, it's a Sprint network feature that also works on WiFi calling. I have not been able to get a single call to go to HD VOICE while on the LTE network. Frustrating!
This is so dumb
Sprint has issues provisioning the S7, so much like the iPhone, if you enable Wifi Calling, You can not currently use HD Calling. This also means you can not use Push To Talk.
My HD Voice has been working fine between to other Sprint callers that support it. I disabled wi-fi calling service, I don't really use it anyway. Also LTE coverage doesn't matter, none of Sprint's calls are routed over LTE yet, even HD voice uses CDMA network.
