New Google Maps Navigation crashing - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else had problems with the new Google Maps Navigation crashing alot? The best way to crash it is:
- Open Navigation
- Select a recent destination
- Click the Start button (to start navigation).
The screen goes blank then after a few seconds you get the "Unfortunately Google Maps has stopped" message. Happens repeatedly.

Tested with no issues whatsoever here. Though it is still in beta :good:

Do you mean going into Maps History and deleting each item in turn? (I don't see any other option for clearing the cache/buffer). I didn't really want to delete all of my saved locations.
Or do you mean going to Android apps settings and clearing cache for the Maps app?

Home button screwing up

I am running cm10, and my home button (hard or soft) does not work. the screen just turns blank then goes back to the app i was on. sliding the home button up to get to GNow doesn't work either. this happens with every app and nightly version i use since 11/19. i have reflashed, cleared caches, etc. and found that the error was in my data partition- and more specifically, one of my apps. here is a link to my logcat when i pressed the soft home button:
http://pastebin.com/udGmNByF
and here is the list of all the folders in my /data/app folder:
http://pastebin.com/ZugMN6k1
If you need anything else, just ask. Thanks!

I would guess that one of your installed apps has captured your home button then is crashing when it tries to use it. To find out which one it is, temporarily install a third party launcher like zeam or adw and the next time you press the home button a list of eligible apps that can use the home button pops up. Your bad app is probably on that list. Chose the new launcher, make it default and see if your problem goes away.

That didn't work, it just turned black again. Would only an app with su permissions be able to do this, or any app at all?
By "do this", I mean screw up the home button. Also, I wiped the data, and it worked fine, but after I installed all of my apps, it stopped working again. Also, I am running some other apps that aren't from the Play Store (well they are, but the apk's were downloaded from another source). Would those external apps be the culprit?

They do not need su access to capture the home button. When you say reinstall, do you mean reinstall, or do you mean restore with a backup program. The latter usually restores the app's data with it and recreates your problem.

I mean reinstall, like from the play store, but it did it automagically when i logged into google play, i didn't need to go to each app and install it.
Would the external apps be a problem?
Also, I know that in the Manualnooter for the stock OS there is an app called "Homecatcher". would that help at all?
Okay- I looked through the logcat and guessed what the issue was- lock screen was disabled.
I re-enabled it through the notification bar, and home button is fine. Any reason why this might be? And how would I make it so that I can disable the lockscreen again?

Dont let play store install them all at once. Back them up with TB and reinstall them one by one until your problem re-occurs. And do it without the data. Don't know about homecatcher. That is for stock.
Okay, I've narrowed theproblem down more. If the NC boots with the lock screen enabled, you are fine, even if you disable it. But if it boots with the lock screen disabled, then the home button will not work until you re-enable it and unlock the device. After you e-enable it, you can disable the lock screen again. Not anything major, but definitely an annoyance. Should I report this in the CM10 thread and ask them to fix it? Sorry if I sound like a big ******* taking their work for granted, but I don't have a 64-bit computer to build on. If I had one, I would prbly fix the problem myself. Oh well, thta's what Xmas is for. (A bit off topic from this thread, but is the Acer C7 Chromebook 64-bit? If it is then i would just hack ubuntu on it then build off of that.)

How to disable Google Now launch on the left of home screen?

Hi guys,
I never had the Google Launch/Google now thing before on my Moto X Pure. But suddenly now it is there on the left most of my home screen. And it opens up every single time I swipe to the most left screen.
This is a huge battery drain. I want to disable it.
I tried to search online. They say I have to disable the Google Cards or something. But I look at the Google Now setting and that setting is nowhere in sight on my Moto X Pure.
Please help!

Hi. I disabled Your Feed. I even disabled them under "Customized". However the left most screen is still there. If possible I want that Google screen gone from the home screen altogether. It is so annoying.

Swipe left to the feed > swipe left again > settings > Your feed > tap on feed to disable
I had the same 'issue' in that I like to have just one homescreen, not multiple homescreens to swipe between but google had forced this second google 'card/now/feeds' (whatever) homescreen upon me and my Nexus 6P (I realise the OP has a different phone but hopefully this solution will work for all phones).
I searched and searched for a solution but could not find one. Eventually through messing about I managed to get rid of it myself though this does reduced the 'power' of the google search app (which I don't care about as I open apps I want when I want e.g. I open browser to search the web, open maps to search for a place, contacts for contacts etc.) So try my solution below and I hope it works for you too:
From your homescreen swipe right/left (finger from left to right) to get to the dedicated google 'card/now/feeds' homescreen. Press the three-lines menu button then Settings then Accounts & Privacy, then Google Account then select the 'sign out' radio button. Wait a few seconds while it signs out... now press your home button and you should only have just one homescreen now (or at least however many you had before the google dedicated one). You may have to repeat this a second time if it didn't sign you out (google does not want you to keep your information private haha!!) Now to complete the process press your bottom right 'square' button (to the right of home 'circle' button) and swipe the google app off to the right to close the app from memory, otherwise if you leave it in memory and then select it by accident it will sign you back in and create the extra homescreen again!
You can still use the google search bar that is at the top of your homescreen (I have a Nexus 6p so that's where it is for me) - it works just fine
Go to settings, google, search, your feed and disable it.
Here is the solution
Hi
I have the solution. From the apps swipe Google app to the app info on top and then go to storage in info settings then clear all the data. Thats it. You just need to customize your home screen shortcuts again.
You could just use a custom launcher, like Nova Launcher... You get lots of customization abilities too. Nova Launcher is the pretty much the first app I install on any phone I have.
Google app > Settings > Your feed > turn off feed.
No need to clear anything.
2nding Nova Launcher, but I only use it on devices that aren't stock or near stock.

Thanks so much. this worked for me on my Moto G4.
Thank you looneyjetman! Worked like a charm! I had tried turning it off through "feed" and "voice", nothing worked. Privacy settings is the way to go.

I have and LG G6 running Google Now Launcher (coming from a Nexus 5X) and after an update this extra home screen was added to my system which I could not disable.
What I have done is uninstalled Google Now Launcher which only uninstalled the updates. Then I set auto updates to "off" via the Play Store which has kept my screen clear of this unwanted home screen. (though this had to side effect of removing my home screen customisation)
However your solution sounds much easier - has it ever resigned you in bringing back the unwanted home screen?

app disabler for moto g play?

Is there a recommended app to use to for moto G play to disable certain apps? For instance, I use package disabler pro for my samsung s7.
I need to disable the google app from the long press home button for my 12 year old. We run norton family on chrome, but for whatever reason, the google now apps have always been exempt from norton filters. The phone did an update this morning and now I can't find any way to disable that feature or lock it with applock.

One more question I hope you'll know... As I was closing apps from the square "recent apps" button, the google search bar now appears at the top (and is accessible). Any ideas how to get rid of it? We are using Nova Launcher instead of google's native launcher, which helped get rid of the original google search bar on the home screen.

Apps not showing on home screen

Hey guys, I will try to find include as much info as I can. I have Google play loaded on the device. I tried to uninstall an app and the icon remained, trying to uninstall it again gives me a pop-up about the app files do not exsist. Ever since then if i install an app from either the play store or the Amazon app store they will not show up on the main screen. The apps are there and I can remove them via settings. I have tried a hard reset as well as reinstalling the initial app that caused the problem. When I do that the app icon works again but no new apps show up still. If I uninstall it again it does the same thing as the first time, the icon stays.
I was hoping there was something running in the background i can clear the data for or something to fix this. I do not know enough about it to tinker around with it. I have some stuff downloaded from Google play that i cannot backup. A factory reset will lose the data on those accounts so I am trying to avoid it.
If you have any suggestions I will gladly try them, thank you in advance for your help
Mine is doing the same today, I've uninstalled it but the icon remains on the screen. I've also tried others that I've installed from Google play, all behave the same.
Are new apps that you install showing up? I cannot get any new app to appear.
Settings, ,,, apps & games,,,,,manage all applications, ,,, Running ,,,, press the three dots on top of the screen to show cached processes. Open SHOW CACHED PROCESSES, ,,,,,select Home Pages icon,,,,, select STOP... GO TO HOME PAGE AND IT IS FIXED
Same issue happening on my Fire HD 10. No newly downloaded apps showing on home screen, and icons for uninstalled apps are grayed out. Tried clearing the home screen cache, but no luck.

This might be somewhat related. Please try the following trick to see if it helps:
(1). Settings --> Apps & Games --> Manage All Applications
(2). Swipe left in order to display "ALL" applications and then scroll down to select the application named "Home Pages"
(3). Tap "CLEAR CACHE" and then "FORCE STOP"

Sometimes during the journey as well the voice does not finish a sentence etc. Removed phoneme files as says to but no luck.

If I use a normal voice then navigation speech works fine. But when comes to speedcams I get a continuous beep. Can this be solved?
Please tell us your specs of device you are using (headunit info).
It is probably issue with sound in factory settings of device (hidden menu)
Where was igo installed from, plsystore or others?

I have nav app attached to navi button. If I don't and leave blank, would this stop it as nothing assigned to the button that assume is linked to the system generated startup system.

Ok, you have google play store or some store to download apps and install them or navigation app is preinstalled with unit ?
Navigation was preinstalled. But I backed up the APK and reinstalled with all updates etc do make it work with new maps. I have playstore available. I have tried other nav apps like Waze. These are not set as Navi button. These do not autolaunch when key in ignition. So is it due to fact that what app is set as Navi button in settings will autoload.
