Looking at upgrading to the M from my D2...and have the following Class 4 card inside:
SanDisk 8GB MicroSDHC Card (SDSDQ 008G A11M)
It seems like we have multiple reports of the RAZR M taking 64GB cards and working fine, like this one:
SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card with Adapter (SDSDQU-064G-AFFP-A)
I'm thinking I probably want to upgrade to at least a 16GB, maybe a 32 as I am a little worried about the usable space on the M.
Will I notice a significant difference moving from my Class 4 to a Class 6/10?
Is the M actually utilizing the Class 10 speeds? It seems that it is hard to even find a 32+ card in class 6, most come in class 10. But if I stay down at 16GB, I can get a class 6 and save some $$.
I guess, basically, I want to know that if I am happy with just the 8GB of space, is it really worth upgrading to a 6/10 card - and if so, will 10 actually realize any potential over a 6?
I'm using a class 4 32gb and it does fine for only $24 at Walmart

Thanks...I'm sure that if you had nothing to compare it to a class 4 would seem to work fine.
What I'm more interested in is what the phone can actually support in terms of r/w speeds.
If it won't get any benefit of anything beyond a 4 - then you were smart to only spend $24 for a 32GB. But, for one looking to maximize performance, I'd prefer to put a 6 or 10 in. But...I don't want to spend the extra money if for nothing.

i think it really depends on what you are doing with the card, but unless the m is the last phone u will ever own then just get the fastest you can so you wont have to worry about upgrading if you need the speed
I have a SanDisk Ultra Extreme class 10 32GB, and, with the exception of large file transfers, I don't notice much of a difference. I got it got about $20 USD on FleaBay, so decided it was worth the extra five bucks from a normal card.

Wondering if anyone had a 32GB card in their Play and if there are any problems.

mine came with a class 4 16gb (UK Unlocked) i bought a 32gb class 4 san disk and it actually seems faster than the 16gb lol. I have no problems with the 32gb at all. My only problem is i wish the play supported 64 gb lol.
Sweet.
Can I ask.
If I upgrade to a 32GB card, is it simply a case of copying over all contents from my 16GB card to the 32gb card?
I have been using app2SD and am NOT rooted if that makes a difference.
Thanks.
32 class 4 is enough but class 6 would be best

Need to find a good deal on a Genuine 32GB card then.
The price jump from a 16GB to 32GB is huge.

You probably should not say stuff like that. People are going to run out and get higher class cards expecting their phones to run games at higher FPS and better speed when that's not at all the case.
ive been using a 32gb class 10 for a while now
and its good to have a decent amount of space to put all the games roms on
i mean some games require 1200mb of sd space
the only benifit from getting a class 10 over say class 6 is the class ten has quicker loading times say when loading games etc
ive had no probs using a 32gb
just dont get buying a cheap 32gb memorette micro sd off ebay
i got 2 off 2 different suppliers and both were fake
eg class 4 4gb even though when card was plugged in it did say it was a 32gb
so if you want lots of space get a 32gb
and if you want faster loading time with large apps and games get a higher class
6-10

I've bought a 32GB Transcend µSD card. I don't know its class, but it's the cheaper I have found. All I can say is that it is as fast as the 2GB card sold with the phone.

have a 32gb class 10, didnt try it on the phone, because it was partitioned for the nexus one, but on the nexus worked like a charm, tomorrow when i make a single partition and reformat will try it on the play and give you my review.
i bought this one on ebay around march for $98.
I'm using a Lexar class 10 32gb card, and had no problems with anything. Everything runs the same as my sandisk 8 and 16gb cards.
im perplexed. 32 gb class 6 or class 10 for faster load times in games?
Ok, so I know this is a topic that has been really over-discussed, but I really can't seem to find very much good information online, so I turn to my most trusted authority...XDA with a few questions...
I currently have what I believe is a genuine Sandisk 16 GB Class 2 microSD card. And from reading in the forum - I realized when I upgraded (in the meantime I reverted back...) to CM 7.0.3 I had serious lag issues, and I understood from different posts that it was because I needed to upgrade the class of my SD card. In the interim, I've purchased a Sensation 4G (which I have yet to receive - but expect to have by Wednesday). I know this phone comes with an 8GB card - I'm just not sure of the class - but assuming that the phone records HD video - they should have the sense (no pun intended) to provide at least a class 4 SD card right?
Here's the thing. It's really hard to understand - even from reputable stores, which SD cards are real and which are fake.
General questions:
1) Why do some cards have their class marked on them and some don't? What does this mean?
2) There is no standard look to SD cards even from the same company. How can I know where to buy a real one?
I already got burned by eBay - so I'm not going down that route again - but even NewEgg and Amazon (where I bought this card from and am happy with...even though I'm no longer sure it's even real. I downloaded an app that's supposed to test read/write speed and authenticity - and it didn't say Sandisk, so now I don't know...Despite being a class 2 card with write speeds of higher than 6 MB... so I really am confused. I'm assuming a fake card would cheap out on quality...)
While I always prefer to pay a bit more for the best - and from what I can see there is no consensus regarding any SD cards besides Sandisk/Toshiba/Samsung, however - there are no SD cards from any of these brands to be found online for purchase with a class higher than 4 - besides class 10 that costs somewhere in the vicinity of $100 (which I am currently unwilling to pay).
1) Is there no Sandisk Class 6 or 8 card?
2) Why can't I find them anywhere if so?
3) What is known about companies such as Kingston/PNY/Lexar/Transcend - what I've seemed to find is that the good reviews are great - but the bad ones are REALLY BAD. Do I want to chance getting a lemon and losing something as precious as photographs??
4) What about reputable companies that aren't necessarily known for their memory/SD card strengths but other areas - Duracell, HP, Panasonic, Nokia?
5) Would I be better off downgrading to a smaller card with a higher class? (i.e. 8GB Class 10?)
I'm really confused - any and all help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!!

It's not so much the "class" of the card, but the real-world performance of the card. I've seen class 4 cards preform better than some class 6 and higher cards.

There is no way to tell a fake one from a real one by just looking at it. to be safe, buy one from a brick-and-mortar store, where it is easily returnable. Don't buy it online unless it is from a well established retailer like Newegg.

It depends!
I have been using a 16GB Transcend Class 6 card, for the past two years or so, and have had zero issues with it.
I also have a 16 GB SanDisk Class 2 card (although I don't use it in my Nexus One), and again, I have had zero issues with it.
I certainly would not put any faith in reviews on Amazon, etc. If anything, I would look at a reputable tech review site like tomshardware.com or anand-tech.com. Otherwise, buy and try, and if you are not happy, return it.
Wow! Major thanks for that reply! Was very helpful!

I have a SanDisk 32GB Class 2 card that I've been using for about 6 months. It's performing almost as well as the SanDisk 32GB Class 4 card listed in the CyanogenMod SD Card performance wiki table. Using the same testing protocol, I'm getting 5.67MB/sec writes and 11.28MB/sec reads.
Wintec 16 gb class 10 from Fry's. It performs like a class 8.5, not bad!
I bought a 11 euro 8gb micro SD class 6 with A2E in CyanogenMod 7 and runs like a charm .

http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00...ils?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1315820052&sr=8-1&seller=
I guess you can find similar deals in the UK.
This class4 has been tested on XDA, for sequential writes it reaches 6MB/s and it is faster than most other cards (including class 6 and 10) for writing small files.
i dont really believe in theses "class's" think its a scam to pay more for something that sounds better but isnt any differnet from any other well know popular SD card.. long sentance hahah
i bought a MUSTANG brand (german brand) 32gb microSD card class 10. it works perfectly and is very fast.the price is 80€ on ebay.
Upgraded last night from an old 16GB Class 2 to a Sandisk 32 GB Class 4 its like a night and day difference. 100% recommended.

It should have a 2 or 4 with a circle around it on the front label. If not there are some apps that can speed test it and tell you.
What is the largest, fastest and most budget-minded SD card I can get for this device, preferably off of NewEgg...
I can't remember if the largest "recommended" size is 16gig or 32, but get a class 10. Also, don't go to New Egg, go to Meritline.com, much cheaper on the micro SD cards, and problably even cheaper elsewhere.

So always get class 10 for mobile devices? I'm not looking for a recommended size, I want the maximum size.
Also, NewEgg has class 10's for way cheaper than the site you mentioned.
I could be wrong, but I just thought the class indicated the speed of data transfer, so I've always gone for class 10. And yeah, I never noticed the price gap being so marginal on class 10 cards between New Egg and Merit Line. I've always used Merit Line for any media related purchases. Monoprice for anything cable related (I will slap anyone in the throat I meet face to face who spends $60 on a 6 foot "Monster" HDMI cable at Best Buy), and then NewEgg for everything else.

Will a 32GB card work on this device?
I used a 16gb, but I cannot remember what the manual said would be supported. However, I thin microSD only goes to 32, I'd wait for someone else to chime in to see if they use a 32gb without issue. I've never paid attention to brand, and it's worked out for me.

I'm using a Duracell 16GB Class 6 and it works wonders. Only cost me $25 from a brick and mortar store too, which isn't too bad. You won't notice a significant difference between class 6 and class 10 on any Android device, so personally I wouldn't bother with the added cost of a class 10 card.

are class 4 any better in real life not statistically
Class 4 isn't much better, random read/write is faster on the lower class cards so that means apps will be faster. The only thing that's better about the higher class cards is sequintial speeds. A higher class card will transfer large files faster (like movies) though. You really need to decide what you need based on what you plan to use it for

i dont buy sd cards off ebay because of all the fakes and even if it is real i wouldnt get the ones that arent sealed in the official packaging
thats why sandisk puts their cards in those hard plastic vaults they call packaging that takes 20 mins to get it out

I think the first link I posted (the Samsung) is a great deal.

For like $5 more you can get a Class 4 Transcend 32GB off of Amazon. That's what I did.
I don't know about better random read speed, but its not worth it imo, because if you buy a 32gb in the first place you plan to store files. I have a Samsung 32GB class 4 that write at 4-5MB/s, and multiple gigs can take up to an hour to transfer. I can not imagine waiting for 2 hours. A Class 4 32gb goes for low as $20 now.
