[Q] Would this phone work unlocked in Canada? - Droid X General

hi
I love the look of this phone...I currently have the Sony Xperia Pro and this phone is a step up, memory and processor wise....
However I am nervous that if I buy one on ebay that maybe it will be incompatible with Rogers, just wondering if any clever OR knowledgeable soul with first hand experience would know if this will work on the Rogers network in Canada?
Any replies will be very much appreciated thank you

Looking to swap HTC Magic(Rogers) for My Touch 3G - TMobile

I have a month-old rooted black HTC Magic - Rogers (running it on Fido). It's running the RAv1.6.2 – Donut ROM. I'm looking to swap for a clean (not necessarily brand new but in a similar condition) My Touch 3G - TMobile. I'm looking to switch from Fido to Wind Mobile but the Rogers HTC Magic radio is not compatible with the 1700/2100 bands that Wind Mobile is on. My understanding is that T-Mobile phones work on those bands. Either reply or pm me for any offers.
u are in luck my man
I have an unlocked t-mobile my touch 3g but unfortunately I have at&t so no 3g I'm having the exact same problem but how would we set up the trade trade
Location, Location
I live in Toronto, not too sure if you do. If so we can definitely setup a meet and maybe a chance to check out the phone. Let me know.
RE: Location. Location
I live in DC closest I can think of. Is NY
RE: Location Location
I'm sorry my fault what I meant to say was that I live in DC but the closest place to meet for us would be New York City I'm guessing that would be halfway for both of us, thats if u dont mind traveling if u do I understand. but I'm willing to trade, phone is in very nice condition I just sold my iphone so I had it for about 2 weeks now and not having 3g is starting to get to me
Trying to figure this out
Sorry for the delayed response. I wouldn't be able to travel that far until a couple of weeks from now but would you know of a shipping service or something that we can utilize to facilitate a swap perhaps.
But How ?
Ive been doing a little research on a couple of sites that offer swapping services, but since this is the first time Ive tried to do something like this I'm not sure of the logistics. I dont want to end up with a Brick or a damaged phone or no phone at all and vise versa. Here are a list of the sites im talking about, SwapAce.com, [email protected], and Ive not taken a look at these yet, Swaptree.com UExchange.com BarterQuest.com I dont know if they offer shipping services or if they just help u find people to swap stuff. I would rather we both check the phones out in person to make sure we are both satisfied, you sound like a sincere person but if there is no other way im willing to ship the phone if u are. But how ?

HD2 alternative - being forced to change

Hi all
I love my UK HD2 especially since i've put it on Android but unfortunately i have to get rid of it as the limitation on cellular bands is a problem....
Recently moved to Canada where the provider i use (fido/rogers) operates 3G on 850/1900Mhz. The UK HD2 unfortunately does it on 900/2100Mhz so it falls back to the 2G network (GSM) when in Canada which is terrible for speed.
I need a phone which can do 850/1900/2100Mhz which i believe the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate and the Dell Streak can do.
Wondered if anyone had any opinions on these android phones or other phones which might suit? I need something as close as poss to the HD2 with the large screen, slim design but something that runs android only. I dont like the Desire Z.
Appreciate any advice
Latz
As far as size goes you can't go wrong with the Dell Streak. Haven't read the reviews on that one yet but I have heard its a good phone. Myself, I would go with the Captivate if thats an option on Fido. Or see what other good Android phones they have. Really though, no matter the choice you'll find support on these boards. Hope your search goes well.
Cheers
Dell streak is big , but too big if you really want to use it as a phone, having personally used it, its way big when using it daily, plus you have to carry it in your hand, Captivate, Bell Vibrant or Desire(screen is small)
id say if u really love yer HD2 then get the telstra T9193 version. thats the same bands as AT&T, rogers, the telstra one works here for me just fine. i just bought mine off ebay thursday and picked it yesterday. guy was locally in chicago couldnt belive it!!
EDIT: i just sent u a link to one being sold in canada right now

When I was in Canada, March 2010, they were having a launch party for the HTC Hero. It had been out in the UK for months, after looking at the selection of phones in Fido, Rogers and Bell, I decided that Canada was at least three months behind the curve. Although, that's just my opinion.
In light of that, I'm unsure if the Desire HD is out in Canada, I'll ask the missus to have a look.
Thanks for all your suggestions, I need something that can do all 3 bands else it won't work when I go back to the UK :-( I think the Telstra version of the HD2 is band limited too so whilst it will work in Canada I'll have the same problem in reverse when I go back to the UK :-(
Why oh why did they limit these phones :-( :-(
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look at all that you guys have suggested so far... I'll be really upset to leave HTC though.... I'll have a 'normal' phone :-(
Nokia N8 Pentaband, thats the phone you want
My Hero worked in the UK and Canada, but it's not a replacement for the HD2 by any means. I don't know what to suggest, except looking for the bands and typing them into Google, with your other specs. I know my friends Desire worked there too (I say Canada, I mean Vancouver specifically).
I'd say go for the Samsung Galaxy S. It's an awesome device and it doesn't seem to be riddled with hardware issues like every HTC phone seems to be lately. I think I'm switching my HD2 to one once I get it back from warranty repairs (third time this year, mind you). The only major thing with the Galaxy S is that the 3rd party software modifications can be a little retarded and the phone doesn't feel as solid physically as a HD2 for example.
Yes I must admit I'm growing more and more partial to the Samsung Galaxy range.... They have a 4" screen so I'm losing a little bit off our HD2 but not too much.
One thing I was concerened about was the benchmarking..... whilst I know this is not something of a real-world concern, it amazed me that the HD2 running Droid from the SD Card could manage no less than 35 MFLOPS compared to the Galaxy's Hummingbird... still spec'd as a 1ghz processor..... managed only 8 MFLOPS?

[Q] Tmobile or Rogers or Stock Android s4 that will work on LTE in the US & Canada

[Q] Tmobile or Rogers or Stock Android s4 that will work on LTE in the US & Canada
I'm in the market for a massive cell phone upgrade. I'm currently on a BB 9000 that still works as well as the day it was made.
I spend considerable time in Canada (Rogers Network) however I am from NY (T-Mobile). I am looking to get a an s4 that will run on LTE in both countries. I will just swap sim cards when needed.
I will be buying the phone outright. Should I get the Google Edition GT-I9505G which after taxes is just over $700 or should I get the discounted locked T-mobile S4 (SGH-M919) for just over $600.
Rogers also sells the (SGH-I337M) variant with an unlocked boot loader for 700.
Ultimately,I don't mind unlocking and rooting the device I get .
What would you guys recommend ? What would you do ?
Thanks in advance,
John
Hey John,
Considering you don't mind unlocking or rooting, I suggest you get the Google Edition. It costs less, it'll save you the trouble of getting it unlocked, and you won't have to deal with the cellphone companies. As a canadian, I've heard enough horror stories with Rogers, to advise you to avoid any hassle with them. Then again, it's very YMMV, some have great customer service with Rogers and will never leave them.
As for me, considering where I'm from, I don't have the option to purchase it through the Google Store, unless I have an amerifriend or through family in the US. So I don't have the choice you have. Even if I did, I would still get it through a carrier, simply because I really love what Samsung did with the S4 and am not really into rooting (although considering it more and more lately). I don't really use the "gimmicky" features (air gesture, smart scroll, etc.) but what they've done with the camera is great and I see myself using the different modes more than I thought.

S5 Purchase Recomendation

Hey guys,
On a s4 now, and it has been acting up (aka random shutoff) and insurance said I should replace it. They are cutting me a check and I need to purchase one today. I researched the heck out of the ATT and TMOBILE variants, but I cannot find where the best place to get it is (aka COST). Also, I am not the best with technology, so how hard is it to use the TMOBILE on the ATT and does the carrier aggregation stuff matter?
Thank you sooooooooo much,
Brad

Unlocking the Galaxy s6 edge plus

Hi there,
Soon to be first time android user(maybe?) wanting to purchase a Galaxy s6 edge plus.
But I have a couple of questions I was hoping people with experience can help me out.
1.- Since I live in the US but will be using the phone often overseas, I would like a fully unlocked phone that will work with any mobile carrier. But it is such trouble buying unlocked phones in the US I am really confused as to how should I proceed doing so? I could buy an Att phone at full retail and get it unlocked by them right? Will I be able to delete the ATT bloatware? Is there a better way to just buy an unlocked phone? I want the 64 gb gold version which seems to be very very hard to find ( ATT does have it though). Note: I am aware Verizon phones are unlocked but they do not carry the 64 gb gold variant and aren't their bands totally bad for international use?
2.- Coming from an iphone user, I've always jailbroken every iphone i've owned, it truly unlocks the full potential of a phone such as installing small modifications that make a great diff. My question is: will I be able to do the same with my galaxy s6 edge plus if I get my hands on an unlocked one? Is this called rooting? I've been reading threads from here and what I got is that rooting devices is very hard specifically for the galaxy brand? Is there a way around that?
That's all for now, just want to thank you going to the trouble of reading my post and would really appreciate your help if you happen to know any of the questions I have.
Thank you
