I miss Ice Cream Sandwich - Galaxy S III General

I used to love my S3 when it was modded up with Fox Hound ROM with Ice Cream Sandwich and Siyah Kernal. It was fast snappy and the battery lasted for ages. It seems since upgrading to Jelly Bean yes more features were added but it seems slower, battery is crap and it often freezes. I have tried various ROMs and always done Full wipes first. Non seem as stable as the final releases of Ice Cream Sandwich.
Is it possible to jump back to Ice Cream Sandwich or even the very last Fox Hound ROM before jelly bean along with the Kernal from that time. I'd love to see if it's the phone or the software. I'd even settle for completely stock unrooted. I just want a reliable phone again.
Currently running Omega 43.3 Siyah 1.91 and not happy at all. I left FoxHound behind as I was getting similar issues.

Yes you can go back.

Sorry.
Do other people find the same with Jelly Bean or are they perfectly happy with it?
On a side note the only feature I really use on my Rooted phone these days is hold volume up to change track. Is there any way I can get this on a stock unrooted phone as I could do with the Barclays PIN Sentry App to work.

The freezes are likely to sds fix which if true, means going back to ics can kill your phone.

Or you could check if you have the effected chip and if you have, read the unusual freezibg thread. Many have sorted their freezes out

This ^^
Be very careful with this, better to have a slightly slower but fully functional phone than a dead one.
Also it may just be the case that you're in need of a global reset on your phone. They do need a wipe from time to time. Take the chance and try a different rom. If nothing else, the latest official with a pimped up kernel may do you wonders.
To be perfectly honest I was never happy with omegas results for some reason, it always seemed to miss the snappiness others have.

Thanks guys. I installed Ice Cream Sandwich last night as a test to see how it felt. It was like a different phone no freezes or hangs! I used the app outlined in your post rootSU and I do have the chip but it passed the the test. I'll do some more reading in that thread about the freezing and possibly do an OTA update to Jelly bean and see how I get on. Thinking of selling the phone still.

Passinng the test is not relevant. Those freeses happen on Jellybean only when it is preventing teh phone from having SDS. Your phone will die. jellybean now or risk a dead phone.

I've just had the latest official BTU Jellybean downloading. I'll sort it after work. Strange, I un-rooted following the instructions and just notice my Device Status is still modified. I need to do it all again anyway.
I'm half tempted to leave it as ICS and stock let it die and get a new updated mobo.

Never seen any reports saying samsung released and updated mobo without this problem on this phone, always thought they released the current sds fix and called it a day. Granted, you may get it replaced under warranty but to what point? You'll be left without a phone for around 30 days (thats how long it is here) and still get a phone with the same problems. If this is a problem to you, you're better off selling it, i think.

Yeah that's not good enough for me. I'll sell it I think. I'm going travelling and will be in Seoul so should be able to get a decent phone over there.

Changelog ?
Got the update in PA this morning (just reverted to stock to check for it) - planned on reloading from scratch anyway, so I installed .24 clean (NVFlashed it), updated to .27 and then didn't restore any apps (re-installed the apps).
The only "changelog" that I saw (when I went to install the update from the clean .24 install) said the standard "Performance and stability improvements, blah, blah blah" - just a one liner - no details...

This update didn't work out for me. I had rootkeeper installed and verified it was working before doing the update. Once I did the update the TF101 rebooted and started doing the update until i got the caution sign with the exclamation mark. That's when I knew this tab was bricked. Now when I boot the tablet it takes me into Clockwork Mod. I've restored two backups so far and it doesn't want to boot into ICS.
Lol did u expect Jelly Bean?;-)

Got it here in NJ today. It has def made a difference for my tf101 B70 model. Scrolling is faster and smoother video over WiFi. I ran it through a lot of the issues I was having especially with multiple apps running still no reboots, no freezes and no performance slow down.
I am not holding my breath though, this update most likely broke what was not having issues before but so far a thumbs up . Maybe next week I will either give it the other thumb or the finger.
Now only if the android developers would get their thumbs out of their asses and give my Motorola phone an ICS build.
How long until we get 5.0 here you think. 3rd or 4th quarter?

Even if there is an update to 4.0.4, don't expect any major differences. The changes are mostly "under the hood". I have 4.0.4 on my phone, and to be honest, 4.0.3 runs better on my TF.

Razr Maxx. 4.0.4 isn't horrible on it, but I have some lag on the screens and my battery life took a slight hit compared to 2.3.6.

As a matter of fact,,I should have! This Rom has a lot of "issues" that I previously didn't have with Gingerbread..
Chrome keeps on freezing (that may be the app itself though).. And just now I had a problem with the screen where everything just went sort of grainy and screen was unresponsive and had to restart the device. Also, ICS feels a bit laggy than Gingerbread when swiping between home screens etc.
Because this is an import phone ( which is probably why I got the update first, is it possible to swap this 'Switzerland' ICS Rom, with an official "NZ" ICS Rom when it comes out?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I was waiting for NZ ICS when I first got my phone. But soon after and understanding the brick bug and that ICS has a short battery time (and thats about the only distinction) I will be staying on GB instead.
And to change your phone to "NZ" you need to change the country flag in the phone.
My GNote which is german, received the ics update in May. Can't believe there are people still waiting for the update. My GNote is running awesome on ics, no issues at all....as a matter of fact it's better on ics than my sgs2 is on ics. It's definitely worth updating, imo.

Will the 7.7" ever get JB?

Ok so we finally got ICS for our tabs, but unfortunately we are already running behind as JB is already out or on its way to several devices. I was wondering if you guys think that we will ever see an OFFICIAL JB update to for our tabs. Please spare me the custom JB ROM replies, i am not asking or interested about that i am only interested in an official JB update. What do you guys think, possible or will Samsung forget about our 7.7" like they did with original 7" and just move on. Please share your thoughts on this.
I am hoping we can get Google Now on our tab, seen it running on the Nexus 7 and it is awsome, the Bitter UI would be nice as well but not a priority.

Same question will be asked after JB when Google releases Android Lollipop !
Just be glad that your TAB is working on ICS, and that alone will open the door for CM9 and even CM10 as there's no changes in kernel.

I use my Verizon 7.7 all the time as I fell in love with the size and the mobility. I sold my Asus Transformer Prime, because I was barely using it. So I am in an even bigger pickle because my tablet is through Verizon. I hate samsung and their development awareness. They take forever to bring updates and I really fell such a great and expensive tablet like the 7.7 will fall by the wasteside. I truly don't think JB will be coming out anytime in the near future. I still don't have ICS on this tablet, but I use a different launcher which helps with lag.
I would imagine that any new tablet in this size and with amoled would presumably debut either at IFA, probably not since Note 2 is coming at IFA, so a new 7.7 would appear at CES 2013, possibly with new AMOLED tech, making the device thinner, lighter and higher resolution screen.
I would say 95%

Exactly, who doesn't want that. I understand there will be wrinkles but with an active development community like this then the more people that are running the ROMs will help improve them.

Nobody in this thread is really complaining, but there have been ALOT of complaints in this forum due to limited dev support, but c'mon, we're early adopters! TRUST me, as this tech becomes more affordable, the dev community will be all over it.
There is MASSIVE potential to be unlocked with larger sAMOLED+ displays. Has anybody realised that human hands have never drawn, painted or written anything with such a pallette before? Sometimes I feel like I'm talking to the wind on this issue.
From what I can tell, 10%-20% of us are professional artists/photographers/developers. The rest of ya'll are just awesome enthusiasts...(professional in your own right, I'm sure)---
The strange thing is, we're spread out all over the world, and there looks to be less than 100,000 of us total.
Nobody I've talked to (I mean chatted with on here) knows anyone else, or has seen anyone else with one of these tablets. That makes each of us unique in our own social spheres. JB will come out within months through the dev community, and i'd rather see an AOSP/AOKP port of JB than another sammy-watered-down-whimpy-touch-wiz-fracked-wish-i-were-a-REAL-android-distro-CRAPOLA-"UPGRAYEDD"

I prefer Paranoid Android. It's smooth, fast and it gives you the option of choosing phone, phablet, or tablet mode for every app. Also, it allows you to choose between small tablet, large tablet, phablet, and phone workspace.

It was in alpha for a while. I don't think it is anymore. Regardless, I've had zero problems with PA and I've been on it since 1.97. I would highly recommend it Version 2.0 is supposed to be released very soon with major additions so you could wait until then.

Scrolling lag

At work right now but my lieutenant just went from an S3 to an M. I was thinking of doing the same. He has been letting me play around with his M and the home screen scrolling lag is ridiculous. Trying to smooth it up a bit with no luck.
All animations are off, installed apex launcher for him, and only have one weather widget on the homescreen. No other widgets any where.
Maybe I'm just too accustomed to jellybean or am I being too critical?
Any advice on speeding this thing up a bit? I'll see if he wants to try an FDR and wipe but not sure if that will fix anything. This is a retail Verizon version and not a dev edition so I fear there may not be much hope.
This isn't to bash the M because it is a nice phone and I love moto phones for their radios and build quality. Maybe the lack of that extra ram the S3 has would really help smooth this phone out. I know ICS never effected my RAZR like this but then again all those ROMs were optimized by devs.
Thanks for any help posted.

I would recommend not doing that. The patch proved somewhat successful back in the gingerbread days, but with jellybean and ics you won't notice a difference. However the risk of messing up his operating system is pretty high, if you don't know what you're doing.

I would recommend not doing that. The patch proved somewhat successful back in the gingerbread days, but with jellybean and ics you won't notice a difference. However the risk of messing up his operating system is pretty high, if you don't know what you're doing.

Um, I do know what im doing. I would not have offered to help him through it if I didn't know what I was doing. Also, the patch does make a difference. In the Evo 3D forum, the developers build this patch into just about all the roms.
But, in your defense, I have heard some very respected devs say that with JB, the devs have done a lot better of a job with the scrolling so the patch probably would not be noticed. But I did the patch anyways and I notice a big difference IMO.

Wasn't trolling and not the police but was trying to prevent people from wasting their time. Waste away. Also some people have wives and girlfriends with different phones, just saying

I've had my M for 5 or 6 months now and have never experienced any lag on the home screen. I am, however, using Apex launcher so that may make a bit of difference. The phone is buttery smooth for me though.

I noticed a ton of screen lag when i first loaded the CM10 beta rom dhacker put together. If you go to Settings > Developer Options > (DRAWING) Disable HW Overlays, it will fix the lag when scrolling and such.
Used this phone for two days. Never faced any lag. Have you installed any custom ROM?
You know, I haven't had any lag either. I've used both odex, and deodexed version (deodexed version I patched with the smooth scroll patch) and never experienced any lag until I started messing around with build.prop tweaks...
