I have a Google Edition HTC One - One (M7) General

Sup guys, I haven't been in the Android world since I let go of the HTC One X. That being said, I'm back with the HTC One Google Edition.
I see that there's not much information regarding the phone, so if I can do anything to contribute I'll be more than happy to do so. Please be patient with me as its been a long time.
Best regards.

It's the same as the normal HTC One except the software, and that is already out there for us normal HTC One owners to flash. So if you got root it is pretty much the same phone .

Yup and if you get a T-Mobile HTC One, you can fully convert it to a Google Edition, receive all the OTA updates ect. PLUS it offers support for the AWS (1700/2100) frequency band that the Google Edition is lacking. The good thing about the T-Mobile version also is it has no carrier branding on the outside so you won't be able to tell it apart from the Google Edition exterior wise either.
The real kicker is it's also cheaper than the Google Edition.
Here at XDA we applaud the ones who "took one for the team" and purchased the Google HTC One. Without them, we wouldn't have gotten the full dump to convert our devices.

Hi Dan37tz, I want to convert my T-Mob HTC One to a GE and have been searching everywhere for this information before I attempt the process. This is the first time I've been able to find someone saying this so explicitly. Could you please point me to another source where I can confirm this?

It's very simple actually...
1. s-off
2. Convert model number to Google edition model #
3. Change cid to 1111111 or Google edition cid.
4. Flash the Google edition ruu.
Now your T-Mobile one will become a Google edition one with AWS support and T-Mobile LTE. Win
Search in the general section for how to change the model #.

Step 2 was a scary one for me... my phone didn't react ANYTHING like the poster said it would (grey blotchy screen, nope never came up.. rebooted right back into some sort of jacked up hboot) and it wouldn't boot or anything for a few minutes, then it worked fine. Scary as hell I'd admit and I have been modifying phones for years now.

Not quite as good as Sense 4.2.2 but I am not rooted yet (first time since January 2010 I haven't had a rooted phone Lol) so I am not running greenify yet.

Can a HTC One GE be converted into Sense version with out Rooting?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

Yes. Just unlock bootloader install a recovery and flash a sense rom but make a Nandroid before you flash a new rom so you can go back to stock

Is there a list (like a google spreadsheet) of the various device MID's out there? In case someone converts to the GPE and would want to go fully back.

ATT, developer edition and Google edition are essentially same phones.. They all lack the AWS band which T-Mobile model has. So the ideal HTC One is the T-Mobile one which is fully covered to the Google edition. Now you have best hardware radio capabilities with the best software
As far as upcoming Verizon, that's a turd since it's a CDMA phone which is pretty useless outside of Verizon.

From what I understand though, they Google Edition S4 rom does work on the Verizon S4. Is it the case that the rom will most likely work but it just won't be able to receive OTA updates?

It's been discussed that the GSM HTC One and the CDMA version from Sprint have different partition maps. That, and the CDMA radio are why roms from GSM don't work on CDMA phone.

The att can be fully converted. In fact, it's MID is the same as the Google edition. You just won't have the aws bands. In fact, every gsm one can be converted.

Getting the htc one on AT&T? Bad choice?

Ok so I'm with att and the past phones I've had (with exception of the htc one x for a few weeks) were samsung galaxy line...I'm really looking into getting this phone, but I'm curious just how strict att will be with it.... I read this article here http://htcsource.com/2013/02/htc-ge...source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter#prettyPhoto and it concerns me a bit....I mean if att will block users from doing simple things on this phone like this, will they block important things like unlocking the bootloader etc? I've never seen att be like that with any samsung phones I've had....if I get this phone I want to be able to customize it how I want if I choose not to use a custom rom and go stock....its been awhile since I've had an htc phone with att are they that strict? Thanks guys

I'm also using AT&T and this is also quite concerning. It seems like they are extremely strict. I don't understand why they would block such a service? its not like it hurts them in anyway. What a stab in the back AT&T
How I hate these carriers and their stupid ****ing decisions.
If you're concerned about unlocking the bootloader, I wouldn't be. I'm sure if AT&T blocks HTC from allowing it to be unlocked through their website, someone will crack it here.
if i were you, do not purchase the att version. Bootloader will be unlocked etc. Unless the S-OFF by jcare and beaups will work, then go ahead.
But software updates will take 2-3 months after the international version gets it first. You wont get FM radio, and less bloatware.
But on the upside you will get LTE.

and now this??
Yeah I thought about buying the unlocked version...cheapest I saw was 656.00 on handtech....but I'm one of those people who change phones so often that might not be the best for me to invest that much....speaking of the fm radio....don't all the models including the us versions have them? I know the us versions block the radio but I remember on the the att onex I had someone found a way to unlock the radio and I was able to use it on mine with the unlock trick....also as u said I can still lte on either one I decide correct?

I'll be getting mine on AT&T. I bet this issue will be overcome easily with root. I will likely get mine in store on release day, and the pimary reason I will go with the AT&T version (easy in store purchase/exchange/etc).
I've got no choice. The only other option is Veri$ion and they won't get another dime of my money. They F'd me over twice at the end of contracts and hit me with massive roaming bills. 2nd time I didn't pay and had it removed from my credit after 7yrs. At$t is the only provider that has good coverage.
We'll get root and all will be good.
I've had similar concerns, but I think we'll see strong dev support for the One and having only one hardware variant (from a processor perspective) will help as well. It should make it easier for devs to support their roms across all the different carriers.
I would not pre-order anything from ATT -- not before seeing where and how big they make their tramp-stamp. Same for Verizon.
Verizon isn't getting the One.

I may be wrong, but I don't think anyone has manged to manipulate the LTE radio bands like that yet. In fact, I haven't seen an unlocked one with LTE radios so far either. It would be great if it could be done thought. That'd give AT&T, T-Mobile, and the rest a headache and us a way to work around them!

No Carrier customization's?? :)

To good to be true??? Especially in the US!
"All in all, the HTC One is definitely heading towards its release date at a fast pace, and we’re nothing but happy about it. It seems that this year, HTC is going to deliver its flagship device in a different manner (read: no carrier customizations), and that might just be what the company needs in order to gain some ground." http://www.gforgames.com/gadgets/htc-one-sprint-release-date-closer-31609/

Does anyone know how this is with phones bought on Amazon?
Here in Germany the carriers Vodafone and O2 will sell the HTC One. I guess those will have some branding. But I have no idea what Amazon is selling, especially here in Germany. I'd love if it was the unlocked EU-version of the One without any branding.
Not going to happen. They've already made hardware specific to each of the US carriers just to keep them happy (only needed a regular 3g/4g version and AWS version for T-Mob.) If they are happy to customise hardware, I'd put money on them customising software (as far as branding/carrier apps etc).

You have to make specific versions compatible with specific carriers. That's not htc giving in. Even Apple has to make specific devices as per carrier technology they use. No branding on an iPhone. HTC could do the same...

Yes and no. For carriers like Verizon/Sprint you need to as they run a distinctly different networks, however looking at the released HTC One units you can see that the T-Mo version is just a band-crippled version of the AT&T handset (unless i'm totally missing something?!).

From the press shots on att site doesn't look like any att logo on the device body. Bloatware can be controlled to my satisfaction since ICS and disabling apps.

So on the Note 2 (I317/I317M variant), the techies have been able to modify the modem file (through the Qualcomm software) to enable AWS HSPA and DC-HSPA. You think we will be able to do the same here with the HTC One ATT / Canadian units?

From what I read, there will be two variants per usual...but what I find interesting is the T-Mobile variant WILL support all HSPA bands + ATT (or Bell / Rogers in Canada) LTE meaning the T-Mobile variant (bloatware aside, and physical carrier branding on unit) would be the preferred model.

If someone has more info please post. Thanks

I called customer service there and they said their devices are fully compatible with ATT and that includes LTE - unlocked phones can be bought right now for $799 - a bit more than you will pay if you wait for the official release. The only problem I see is that they don't tell you what model number beyond it being the SM G900 - They don't give the letter after the G900 -- and as we don't know how cross compatible the devices are going to be you run a big risk of buying a phone that won't have much dev support -
That is my take on it anyway - when I called and asked they said you could buy now and they ship immediately.
Good Luck -

Got it. But then it comes with T-Mo bloatware and my goal is to order a model with no carrier bloat. Ideally a Samsung-original LTE compatible version would be perfect but not sure if it exists.
Get the Vodafone one! I read it's compatible with AT&T, has little to no bloat, and can be unlocked from Vodafone's site. I still don't get why Samsung won't just give us an unlocked phone for the US though...

Developer Edition and AT&T - The Good and the Bad

I have the Developer Edition with my carrier AT&T.My previous phone was the HCT One M7 Developer Edition
also and everything was perfect on ATT.
The GOOD:
1 - Excellent LTE reception and speed - Blows away the M7 in same house.
The BAD or Problems:
1 - I have Visual Voice mail provisioned and worked great on the M7, went to Google Store
to d/l and it says this version is NOT compatible with your phone and will not let me install.
2 - I have an ISIS nano sim card.. Went to the Google Store
to d/l and it says this version is NOT compatible with your phone and will not let me install.
All other apps work wine. Any others with this problem? I was on the phone with the
Techs from ATT and have a ticket open to resolve these problems.
Everything else about this phone is phenomenal. Waiting on the update to get the Extreme power
mode option.
CC
Hopefully you find a work around with those issues with ATT. Out of curiousity, I'm debating on picking up the dev or the ATT edition on the phone. But other than being unlocked and having a unlocked bootloader is there any other advantages in having a DEV compared to the ATT version? I mean wouldn't it be the same if I picked up a ATT version of the phone and unlocked it, unlocked the bootloader, and S-OFF? Sorry for the newbie question it's just the first time I'm looking into picking up a DEV version and I want to make sure I'm making the right choice. Thanks!!

You will get updates to your phone directly from HTC vs. the AT&T version they sell which updates must go through their slow verification process.
Edit: the developer edition comes with the booterloader unlocked from factory (no need to unlock it!).

Hey cc999, I have a developer edition and I can't download the applications either (thankfully I don't use either!) Could you pull the APKs off of your M7 and try installing them on your M8?
Found working VVM
Not taking credit, found this on the ATT forum. This is the lastest VVM apk.
Just installed it and it works perfectly.

Now all we need is ATT ISIS Wallet APK. Anyone?

Ive been using YouMail visual voicemail. Is the Att one better?
ATT Phone App apk
I wonder if it would be possible to load the Att phone app apk onto the developer edition to utilize the voicemail integration?
I had the att version before I returned it for the dev. Google voice is so much better. The att visual vm lagged. I would like the isis APK.

Just to confirm, there are no issues with LTE with the developer version (on AT&T)? Specifically in NY / NJ area if anyone has it here.
And the other thing, how is the warranty process through HTC? I know for ATT branded phones, you can go to one of their service centers and get it exchanged right away.
The warranty process is why I might get the ATT version instead.
Edit: I'm checking the specs on the HTC website. But what model is the developer edition listed as? Would it be "TMUS?" If so, it's missing bands compared to AT&T version.
I have had the Dev Edition on AT&T since Monday everything is fine. Actually have really good signal. I would say a hair better than M7. Radio switches smoother than ever freaking love this damn phone

Using the developer edition on AT&T. No LTE issues, although my area is just on the boarder of the nearest LTE market so I'm not on it a lot.
Also, The "TMUS" is referring to the soon-to-be released T-Mobile edition.
