I am currently using S4 Google Edition v13 - Feel the Experience of Nexus by jamal2367.
One thing I noticed is I can't customize ringtones and alarm sounds to music or other sound files than the stock ones with the rom. Is there a way to download an app or mod for this?
Another thing is I was able to use swype or a similar feature on the samsung keyboard but it is not as smooth with the google keyboard when using multiple languages. For example, using both korean (default) and english inputs sacrifices the ability to use swype but using english (default) I'm not able to switch to korean.
Much help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I am using the same rom Regarding ringtones I just download a music player from play store rocket player was the one I used but others do it too you can select the music file in the player and make it your ringtone

I've been there with that ROM. the number of features you have to forget comparing with TW is to much. I don't like TW interface and all the samsung APPS that I don't use, but the extra features we have to renounce is simply to much. Some of them, like progressive alarm, use of all sensors, moving apps to SDCARD, that feature that wakes up the phone with the passing of your hand in front of the camera is great stuff

Hey I was wondering what you guys thought was a great alternative to the stock Samsung music apparently. I'm looking for something that is very functional but is also very sleek and stylish. Also hopefully it comes with a widget as well. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks

theres always tunewiki
I would say MixZing. It is not the "sleekest" looking but it certainly is the best-SOUNDING. It has a full 10-band EQ with each band customizable to 12.0db. It also creates playlists based on what you are currently listening to and can get album art/info automatically + suggest new music you may not have. It has a lock screen widget for changing music without unlocking the phone (or you can use a separate program which allows you to switch the song by shaking your phone, even when off). Finally, the developers are VERY friendly and receptive to support and suggestions and are actively working to improve it.

The CyanogenMod Music application. Download CM5 for Nexus One, and install the Music.APK. Awesome look, nice standard functionality and excellent widgets.
Just out of curiosity, what is it about the stock music app that you don't like. I have tried a lot of music apps on the G1, but the stock one on the Vibrant is the best one I have used.
On the G1 and the Cliq I used MixZing and I thought it was great. At this point I'm using the stock player, seems to work pretty good. I would use MixZing or DoubleTwist, I've heard good things about that player.
+1 for the stock Vibrant music app.
The thing is that most of lyrics apps don't support this stock music player.
I tried Mixzing but I like 3 (cubed player).
meridian is pretty good. the headset controlls work for it.
I'm using MixZing, Cubed (3) and Stock player each had one problem I can't stand.
On the Cubed: it keeps recreating/duplicating my playlists, making several copies of each m3u list I have except only the last entry is useable.
On Stock: m3u files not recognized.
+1 for tunewiki, auto lyrivs and cover art download, widget looks ugly and no lockscreen controls though

One reason not to use the stock player is that it can't sort music by artist once your music library gets above a certain size. There is a thread in the Captivate section about this "Music Player -Not enough space in Music Database"
none of this would be a problem if google would get with the program. if the music player in android 3 is the same as android 1 then i hope someone slaps google with a wet noodle.
I just use Real player, works great for music, videos and pics, cant go wrong

Doubletwist is really good
I like MixZing mainly because it automatically retrieves album art and it has a decent widget. It also sorts music very well for me and the lockscreen widget is something I use a lot. My only gripe is that it's not very good looking.
found this on youtube and was wondering if there was a way to get that keyboard with emoji and the music player. I love android, but I've always preffered the iOS music player. any devs wanna look into this? thanks!

There's already music players that look like it. Search on Google iphone music player for android. Play with the words till you find something.
There's also a lookalike keyboard but emoji isn't supported on Android. It's an iphone thing, but there is a font that will enable that feature.

I believe that there is an emoji plugin for Go SMS,which will get you similar results.

Hi,
I'm running on ParanoidAndroid and the default widget to control music over the lockscreen is from google music.
I would like to change this one by the widget provided by Sony, it's look like this http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8193/8083300548_60a34660eb.jpg but with only album arts, no bar navigation and directly on the lockscreen.
How I can get it on my Nexus 4 ? Do I need to install the walkman apk ? If yes, the sound will be changed ?
Maybe this one ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38500108&postcount=121
Nobody ?
Hey buddy. Unfortunately getting what you want is not going to be simple!
You'd need to be good at Android systems programming as well as Java programming to do this. You'll need to modify the ROM/OS so that the default lockscreen widget for music is the Sony one, then modify that widget to work with the ROM, etc. The fact that Sony's music player is probably proprietary makes the situation even worse.
Bottom line, someone with skills will need to do this, and it will take some time. For now I guess you'll have to make do with the Play Music app, or download an alternative music player. There are lots of them on the Play Store and people have been very satisfied with them.
I personally don't mind the Play Music app that much, and use it as a daily driver for music
The stock music player seems limited to me. I use player pro. It has plenty of customizations and is light. Share the name of your favorite music player and the reason why

I use Shuttle+. Very clean interface and plays my music! Not only that, but the dev is very active on adding new features, like folder browsing is coming in the next version. Highly recommend you give it a try, and there is a free version. Pro is 99 cents.

I switch between Neutron and Poweramp. Neutron has arguably the best audio quality of all the players on the market, but the UI leaves a lot to be desired. Poweramp, while not as good as Neutron in terms of audio quality, provides probably the best balance in terms of sound and UI.
I use PowerAmp, as it has a great interface, lots of features, and varied widget options. Haven't felt a need to switch from it yet.
I using MyPlayer because ir have a different but useful way forma making playlists.
You could check ir here:

Are you referring to Google Play Music? If so, it is my go to when I want to play one of the 11K songs on my desktop, especially since Audiogalaxy abandoned me again.
As far as an offline player, Nexmusic is my current favorite and believe me, I tried just about them all. It has most or more of the great features that the big boys (e.g., PlayerPro, Poweramp) have and it's free. Although PlayerPro is pretty nice if you don't mind the price.
I've been enjoying the N7player on an S4 Active very much.
Coming from Neutron player on a galaxy S2 and wanted to try something different.
The equalizer isn't the best (Neutron's was very detailed, so I got spoiled), but there are better exclusive apps just for that and the built in has many presets and effects.
Easy to use and browse music
playlist creation comes quicker than most with lots of longpress options
album art is presented well
lock screen interface is a nice treat
simple, minimalistic and dark
So for the people who use poweramp and neutron, how different is the sound quality on both players? I currently use poweramp. Also most of my music is in FLAC. Would I benefit more from neutron?
Nexmusic, it does what i need it to do and it does it very well :good:
Anybody tried Rocket Music Player before? It's awesome, you can attach special presets to each and every song and can also upgrade to a 10-band equalizer from 5 bands. It's UI is also beautiful and customizable thanks to themes. I personally use the Light Blue theme thanks to my exposure from using Apollo

Ive always used Poweramp. Why? It was one of only a couple of players with a built in equalizer when it came out. I paid for it so I just kept using it
Lately though Ive been all about the Google Play Music app. Cant beat having my entire music library there without using up all my phones storage. The interface is actually really really nice and easy to navigate. Built in equalizer is nice too. Its definitely my go to player since they updated the interface. Not to mention the All Access feature now. A little pricet at $8/mo but I'm enjoying the trial I finally activated.
I use Apollo built into CM10.1. Basic, works for me. I absolutely hate Google Music. Even with music on my SD card, and not allowing it to sign in to my account somehow it managed to show up in Data Usage as using 500mb+ of my data plan. Never again. It's disabled now.

I had the same issue with Google music a while back... that is one of the first apps I kill now on my phone. Fool me once and all that...
for local music I actually prefer the stock Samsung player. for streaming its slacker.
I'm just amazed that play STILL can't transition from shuffle to "in order" without having to clear the que. that is the single thing preventing me from using that for everything.
Come on....... Power amp
SGH-M919_Omega, the end result
poweraaaamp
equalizer music player is what i use cuz its a really great app and is free. and also works great with the volume increasing mod i use.

JetAudio Music Player Plus
JetAudio Music Player Plus (paid version) - 20-band EQ (10-band in Free Version, I think), 32 presets, 4 Customizable presets, Stereo Widening, Reverb, Bass, AGC, Crossfading, Gapless, Balance control, Sleep timer, etc...
I use it along with ViPER4AndroidFX and ViPER4AndroidXHiFi MOD, if you have not tried this, you are missing out. Blows out everything of the water. I've never heard earphones sound so good. Even if you prefer another player, use this FX Mod, you will be amazed at the difference this makes.
EDIT: Just to clarify a bit more. ViPER4AndroidFX/XHiFi is an Audio FX app a bit like Equalizer, Music FX, Beats Audio?, etc... they improve audio effects coming out of the phone - globally, across all apps. It is not a music player.
If yes then plz let me and others know.
It will never be ported since it relies on Samsung's proprietary framework and libraries
What special feature does the Touchwiz music player have that isn't found in an offering on Google Play?

Buddy everyone 1 have special preference. I'm liking the Samsung stock musicplayer. It is simple to use and best sound quality, if u have any suggestion then plz suggest. Thanks.
The music player in Touchwiz is very basic, being little more than a reskinned AOSP music player. In the AOSP music player, you have access to a graphic equalizer called MusicFX. MusicFX is a separate app, called when the MusicFX option is tapped on the AOSP player settings. Other than reskinning the player, all Samsung did was to go into the music player code and change the setting option to point to SoundAlive instead of MusicFX. Something our developers here can do in their sleep.
You can do better than this just by going to the Play Store. So, my suggestion is to start looking on the Play Store for an alternative, because as iJo09 mentioned in the second post, you're never going to be able to port the Samsung music player or SoundAlive apps. Each app has hooks into Samsung's modified framework and as a result, neither app will function outside of Touchwiz.
I use neutron music player, very good quality and nice features, I think it's about $5.00
