Hey guys,
Apologies if this isn't the right spot for this thread, please let me know if that's the case.
I've done some googling and found people who were able to set the messages icon shortcut so that it launched handcent. But it seems that those were all on the Nexus One. Has anyone done this on the EVO? How?
Thanks so much! I don't really care for the Handcent icon.
so you want to use the standard messaging icon but launch handcent with it? Just trying to clear up the issue.
Im using fresh rom and i have launcher, i used their icon for handcent in the launcher bar. Prob doesnt help you though.
Better Cut
Thanks. I tried that but it kept fc'ing. Tried any cut and I'm halfway there. Changed the name but not the icon.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but with LauncherPro you can customize the five shortcuts (phone, contacts, apps, messaging and web) on the bottom toolbar. You can simply hold down the messaging shortcut and link it to handcent while keeping the appearance of the icon itself unchanged.
ok I have LauncherPro but when I do a long press on the messaging shortcut it does not have handcent as an option. Thoughts?
Actually, I found some inconsistencies with BetterCut. You should try FolderOrganizer instead.

At first I didn't think FolderOrganizer was going to do what I wanted, but I figured it out. However I had to use one of FolderOrganizer's icons for the messages, I couldn't find how to make the default icon work?
Thanks for the recommendation guys!

dxtop pro, long press icon for options. you may need to grab an icon pack. gl
what about getting the entire name of the apps to show up instead of fading off. There's plenty of room if a second line is used.

If you have Launcher Pro (Plus):
-Long press on the homescreen
-go to shortcuts
-applications
-tap the app you want
-a screen should come up with the stock icon and title for the app
-tap on the icon and change it to whatever you want (it will go to your gallery, so you'll need to have already downloaded the icon you want)
I seen someone post these screen shots and I am very curious of what everything is. I am not sure if they are themed or market widgets. I like the launcher too.
Can anyone put a name to what any of these are? I would definitely like to try them out. Thanks.
The launcher is launcher pro with an icon pack

that looks really cool, I might look into launcher pro.
Thanks. I am already using LauncherPro Plus, and now I have yet another reason to love it even more.

What's the icon pack and where do I get it?
the widgets aren't part of launcher pro, as far as I know. For the clock, I think it's SiMi Clock widget for the one on the right. I'm not sure if it's also the one on the left
The battery ne is circle battery widget that is free from the market, the weather looks lke beautiful widgets which is a paid app

Picture 2:

- Clock: Simi Clock Widget (with the weather off)
- News Widget: Genie Widget (But not the default. Looks like a modded version to me)
The battery widget is called "circle battery widget" by cedric depoortere

You hit it right on the head! You extend the lines by using LauncherPro's resizing handles. Customization at its finest.... Thanks!!!

No I just really wanted to know what those icons were. I experimented with a launcher a long time ago on my mytouch and I hated how it looked and how it slowed my phone so I just had never tried one again but jeez that picture is just exactly the clean look I've been craving for my phone. I like the stock launcherpro icons but I am the kind of person who likes (free, not warez just free) options.

Yea, I definitely had it looking close. That Simi widget is a mystery. I am not sure how he got that horizontal like working in there like that. For the longer vertical line tho, just use LauncherPro's resizing and stretching it downward.
Take a look at clockR in the market
Also these

If for personal use, (and if rooted) you can always download adw icon packs (tons of free ones on market), go to root explorer, find the apk it installed to your data/app folder, copy it to your SDcard. (This is easier to do on ur computer). Open up the apk with 7zip, find the folder with the pngs and copy them to a folder. I keep an "Icons" folder on my sdcard containing folders with various icon packs, for ex. Then it's easy to browse and assign them as you please (as custom icons).
There's also a paid app called launcherpro icons that does a lot of the work for u.. all launcherpro themed. They also have a website (community contributed) u can just grab em off and copy to your sd- nice launcherpro docks too.

Ahh, one more thing, you guys should check out a widget called minimalist text on the market (i think an xda dev). It's super clean, and he's been refining it like crazy. Ultra customizable.

This feature really should be included in sense, very time consuming having to use the app just to remove the text from under the icon.

Well, if you use a a different launcher, like launcherpro or adw, you can use custom icon packs(Suave etc).

Yup, using an alternate launcher in my opinion is the easiest way. There are plenty of themes available, and you can also change individual app icons very easily. I use Go Launcher Ex. It has some really cool transition animations.

I totally agree, HTC, must realise that ALOT of their customers want to tweek Sense more than they currently allow, so they eventually turn to other launchers.
Causing negative feelings towards Sense... as stable as it is!
I also prefer Go Launcher Ex for this, because not only does it allow Icons to be easily changed, but also renaming of apps.
I hate to see names cut off on the homescreen so I change them - for example
Tune In Radio is cut to Tune In... - so I change it to 'Radio'
One solution could be with Folder Organizer App. In Folder Organizer create a shortcut of app you want and simply change the icon. Afther that go to home, add, shortcut, Folder Organizer Item, shortcuts and select the one you created.
Just downloaded like 100 games, is there a way to select all those apps and create a folder?
Also, I have a blank screen that I don't need. Is there a way to remove that? Like I have an extra panel.
Thanks

not unless you're using a custom launcher. i use TSF shell UI, and that has a lasso tool that lets you just highlight up to 20 icons at a time to drag into a folder, or you can double tap as many icons as you'd like to move into a folder.
and if its anything like android for phones, pinch to zoom out of the home screen and it should show you all the screens. just drag the spare panels you dont need to the trash can to the bottom.

I use Folder Organizer by Fabio from the market. Not sure if it works on JB or N7 as I'm still waiting on mine to arrive. It puts all apps in a list and you put them under a label and just go down that list and check them off. You can also use custom folder icons.
