[Q] New to Android and I need HELP - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hey all,
Long time iOS user, and I have recently jumped ship to the android realm. I just bought a 32 GB Galaxy S 4 from At&t, and I have already rooted my phone.
I am just now learning about roms and somewhat understanding it. I would like to to simply load a Rom onto my device that will eliminate the bloatware, and give my phone the best performance. Any input or referencing would be greatly appreciated.

I'll save you some time and suggest you go to the development section, read the threads about the ROMs that interest you, and try some for yourself. Favorite, best, fastest, etc... are all subjective and as such, these types of threads are not allowed. All of the ROMs are good in their own way.
If you are looking for specific break-downs of ROMs (stock, international, CM, etc...) there are threads in the "General sections that list them as such. good luck with you reading and learning.
Oh, and questions belong in the "Q & A" section.

HTC HD2 Rom Reccomendations please

Hi all,
I am new to this forum and I am looking to upgrade my ROM, but what to?
Can anyone provide any recommendations and reasons as to why that ROM?
Thanks in advance.
Gregs79
Oh no...again..
Dear Gregs79
as i see you only joined this forum 2 days ago.
the easy way of flasing of the HD2 is possible since HSPL is released on 4 jan.
as it has just started the roms are still furter developed.
i'm not going to give you an advice on rom flashing, roms are a personal thing. layout, speed, light or full to name a few.
but i wil give you as a newbie the advice to read this forum, questions as this one you ask only irritate as you can see with the reply from eddieul
Indeed, there are just too much criteria to take into account; speed, usability, free space, removed/added apps or drivers, os version, et cetera; roms are a personal choice.
I do think it would be nice to have a rollup thread with all available roms and their particularities, but it's not like ckecking each thread bothers me anyway.
If unsure, better stick with official. Currently it's best choice for all.

First of all, apologies for the post, I was not intending to wind anyone up! I have spent the last couple of days looking at the forum, but not being familiar with the Windows Mobile interface and never having had a windows mobile phone before, I have absolutely no knowledge of what things are!
I appreciate and have seen that there are variations on ROMs, but as Yunabeco above states, it would be nice to have a thread containing all available ROMs with release dates and not just the official ones.
Apologies once again.

Alright mate, cut the man some slack, he's already apologised for the question no need to bite his head off. We're not all born with the knowledge when first coming here and basic questions will get asked time and time again, nothing wrong with a little patience, we all started from scratch at one time or another.
I think the best place to start is if you have stock rom 1.43, flash the official 1.61 and then move onto varients of the stock builds like l3v5y's or Dutty's.
Once you've become comfortable with those you can look at the other 6.5.3 builds if you're brave but sticking to stock builds is no bad thing as the HD2 is a pretty awesome bit of kit out the box.

[Q] What can i delete??

I have just got my Play, and i totally love it, but now i am starting to feel i should, how do i say this, trim the fat, so to speak.
I just wondered what u guys thought were the LEAST useful things pre-installed on the Play, and what to get rid of/replace.
I know this is probably a total noob question, and to be honest, when it comes to Android i am a total noob, hacked/customized every other console and phone i ever owned, but this is a totally new front for me, so any help, hints or tips would be great.
I have not root'ed it yet, and i am still thinking weather i should or not, but that will be a question to ask another time.
Thanx in advance to everyone!
Adam.
Well, for starters, search the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046699
I have a fair bit of installing custom Roms on Android phones and i can honestly say this -
Unless you are rooting the phone in order to help develop custom roms and tweaks there really is no point in rooting it at the current moment.
Gingerbread is excellent at managing apps and the Xperia Play is designed so that games run independently from your homescreen.
"Trimming the fat" will offer almost zero benefit at the moment.
My advice is to wait a while, let the experts put together some custom Roms and gain access to the Kernel, allowing us to overclock.
Until then, i do not see a reason to root at all.
Sorry, i had a load of tabs open and was meant to post in a different thread. Mods feel free to delete. Sorry.

ROMs and such...

Hey guys, long time no talk here...
I am eagerly awaiting my I337 any day now, and getting ready to pick a ROM. I have stuck with seanz's ROMs for the last few years for my I727 with great success but I dont see anything from him for the S4. I may think about going with the popular Cyanogenmod, as I see have some good nightlies out.
1. What is the general consensus with the "best ROM" today, or is there already an existing discussion thats ongoing and updated week by week?
2. I understand the I337 has a ton of new software for general use, camera, etc... with these new ROMs, will most of the good ones maintain all the these software in their versions?
And of course any comments from existing I337 users who have already been through this is much appreciated, thanks!
If you're coming from the skyrocket, then you should know that "best threads" are not allowed. Too subjective and comes down to personal preference. Flash and see.

When you are ready, start here, I have put together a limited rom list...good luck.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2295557
keep in mind I will NOT give reviews on roms, that will start a rom war, but I will say, that all of the roms I listed are very good roms, and alot of work from the devs to keep them updated. These roms listed work with your device, read each rom thread to pick a rom thats right for you.
Happy flashing, good luck.

[Q] best rom for g2

So i just got the g2 about a week ago, coming from an iphone and getting back into android. I was curious what the most stable rom was for the g2 and which ones were good in your opinions. Also i have looked a little into rooting it but there seems to be more steps than i temember with my droid x2. Could someone post the steps or link me to a thread that thoroughly describes it, all help is appreciated, thanks friends

If this thread is open long enough, every rom available will be suggested at least once. If there was a "best rom", there would only be one rom. Are you capable of understanding this fact? That's why threads like this are forbidden on xda.

I understand the flaw in the way i put the title, but i was asking about the most stable rom. Also i was asking people for their opinions of the rom, so yes i would get multiple rom suggestions. Yes i am capable of understanding the fact, thank you for the condescending reply on my first post here though i feel very ****ing welcomed
Personally for me I am using the Inverted Energy ROM with furnace kernel and I couldn't be happier. Sure its not a kitkat rom, but it runs smooth and reliably. If you have a d801 device check Energy ROM out.

For what it's worth, I'm using Paranoid Android on the VS980 and its pretty great. Very vanilla right now, but I like it that way.
Also, put your armor on because that's just XDA's schtick. You'll usually get ridiculed before you are given a kind hand and pointed the right direction. It's a great place to find resources, but it can also be a nightmare to locate the people who aren't riding around the forum with their noses up.

Inb4 elitist ****storm and lock
For the best stability a stock or LG Flex based rom is recommended
Also, by far the best kernel for this phone is Dorimanx' kernel (for stock and flex roms)
Recently, the developer of the most popular rom quit developing his rom further, but it's still the best in my book. If you want stability, simplicity and lightweight I'd definitely look at either Cloudyfa's Flex rom or just keeping it stock, rooting it, debloating it yourself and using some of the great Xposed modules that are available for the G2.
Thanks for the recent suggestions guys they've great. I have the g2 from Verizon so its the vs 980. Are the flex roms the ones that can be used on any of the models? I have just rooted my device so I'm looking into how to debloat. Ive usually preferred a rom over the stock. And as far as the different kernels go, im completely in the dark about them, I've never experimented with loading new ones on my phone. My game consist of just flashing the roms. With my droid x2 it had the removable sd card but with the g2 I'm a little confused on the route to take when flashing the rom itself
Just one advice.
use any stock ROM and avoid kitkat for now because they don't include native applications like quickremote.
I've tried many roms including kitkat roms and finally came back to a ROM based on stock firmware.
good luck.
We do not allow best ROM/Kernel threads on XDA. Depending on your use and your liking what is best for you may not be best for someone else and vice-versa. Head over to the development section try some out and see which "best" suits your needs.

[Q] New S4 what ROM would be closest to stock with tweaks and additions?

I have purchased a phone from a private individual that appears to be a brand spanking new Samsung Galaxy S4. What ROM would you recommend? Currently I am running M.O.A.R. ROM for my SG3 phone at this time. I really prefer not to have a slimmed down ROM but one that adds more control and features like MOAR but still has the stock appearance otherwise.
Flash them all and find out. Do your research. So you know Verizon Roms work on sprint. Just have to take a few extra steps.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
I am asking what is a ROM that has added features with nothing removed that is pretty much stock. In other words a stock ROM that has added battery tweaks, volume tweaks, wifi hotspot, in call recorder, and other additional features but without removing anything. I tried to do a search but unlike SG3 none really describe themselves like this. I had two choices in SG3 the People's ROM and M.O.A.R.
XDA is a development site not a support site. As such members are expected to do the research, read through the development threads and decide what is BEST for them. The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Please take the time to read through those development threads to learn all about the software you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device with.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.
EFM
Have a great day!
