[Q] Safestrap "Free: 0 MB", Help? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all:
I have a RAZR M, 4.1.2 stock, rooted and unlocked. I used Safestrap 3.12 to try to set up the ROM slots. I have successfully installed it, installed recovery, and then entered Safestrap's menu.
My problem is this: When I go to create a new ROM slot it says Free: 0 MB. The Create ROM button is greyed out. I of course cannot create a ROM slot on external.
Even the backup seems not to function. When I try to create a backup it backs System up, but then gives a long line of fail messages, saying "E: unable to mount '/data/ (tw_mount), E: Unable to mount '/Ss' (tw_mount), and then a long string of E: failed to mount /datamedia (Invalid argument).
I am very much a beginner. It appears to me as though the RAZR M's 4.5 gigs of internal storage are being treated as non-partitionable, and thus it reads to Safestrap as though there were no memory available in internal. (Even though there is 3.84 gigs available). This can't be entirely right, though, since no RAZR M using 4.1.2 would work with Safestrap if that were the case.
I am reluctant to move forward with flashing until I have some kind of working backup, and Safestrap seems to be the tool of choice for beginners. Any insight would be deeply appreciated.
Very best,
JB

If you unlocked your bootloader you don't need safestrap just use fastboot and flash the recovery of your choice

TWRP v2.3.2.3 Failed to Backup?

Hi
When I attempt to make a backup using TWRP v2.3.2.3 from Matt's 1.20 Utility I get this message:
"[BACKUP STARTED]
* Backup Folder: /external_sd/TWRP/
E: Unable to locate sd-ext partition.
Updating partition details..."
It finishes almost instantly and under the white text "Backup Complete" at the top of the screen it displays in red Failed.
I have 100% battery charge
Stock 4.1.2 with out the latest OTA
I already made one successful backup right after installing TWRP v2.3.2.3 on my phone from Matt's Utility the other day.
Phone is Rooted utilizing Matt's Utility
Bootloader is unlocked (Matt's Utility)
Under Settings I have checked Force MD5 check on all zips. and Enable MD5 verification on backup files.
Under Mount Menu all but Mount System are checked.
I am attempting to save the backup to my External SD. But it also fails when I try the internal storage
I don't know if this is a major issue but my time zone doesn't select the proper time.
Under the Advanced tab I selected Fix Permissions and it still fails.
I haven't messed with much else because I'm not sure what they will do. ADB Sideload, Reload Theme etc,...
I find this extremely odd. I have used Hash-code's Safestrap 3.12 for nearly a year with flawless performance always made a back up when I needed it to. when I unlocked my bootloader i was under the impression that TWRP was way better than SS, but here I am having problems the second attempt at making a backup?
Does it only save one backup at a time?
Is there a setting that I need to adjust?
Do I need to update/Upgrade to a new version?
Is there a version of Safestrap users like me with an unlocked bootloader?
Why cant it find the ext partition the TWRP folder is there and even tho it fails it places an empty folder in the proper location with the name I gave to my failed backup?
My SD card is partitioned for use with Link2SD. But that was never an issue with SS or the first TWRP backup I made the other day.
I have plenty of space (42 GB) on my external. so that shouldn't be the issue.
I'm starting to miss Safestrap. But I really want this to work. Help please. Thank you.

first, I would recommend to uninstall SS via the app (not using the OS manage apps interface). secondly, I almost always mount system prior to making a backup - not sure if that makes a difference or not. thirdly, I have gotten the "failed" message before - and that usually happens when I have 3+ backups and/or running out of room on my external SD card. typically, I will delete one of the backups, and then it will back up. also, the process takes about 20 minutes, so I usually plug in my phone during this time (sometimes when the phone is plugged in, it performs better).
another issue could be that you are using 2.3.2.3 with the latest OTA - you mean the latest TWRP version. however, that said, I'm still using 2.3.2.3
hope this helps.

Thanks for the help brother. I appreciate it. But I found the answer on an older post on another forum. What corrected my issue was going to settings and pressing restore defaults. That's it! lol but after that it worked like a charm. thanks again.

Encrypted 9505 won't boot

Good morning XDA fellows,
I am encountering a slight issue: I have encrypted my i9505 two days ago and I went blindly into installing the latest 5.0.2 CM 12 build. I have done a wipe and went into installing from zip which booted the CM setup but stopped at the Encryption Unsuccessful message. If I reboot, it starts the CM setup and stops at the same message.
If I try to mount the sdcard ( the phone's main memory ) it gives me an error and therefore I've put all the files on an external sd ( sdcard1 ).
What is the safest thing I should do in order to avoid a hard brick? Would you recommend me to flash a stock firmware with odin via download mode? Would the encrypted volume mess with odin ?
Yours sincerely,
Hello,
if you point to use CM don't encrypt your device, at least for now. You don't need to flash with Odin now, just go in recovery and format internal memory (/data and /data/media), then flash CM zip

Hi Antares, I receive an error when I try to format anything that has to do with the internal memory: E: Error mounting /data E: Error formatting /data . The same thing applies when I want to install any zip from the internal memoryE: Can't mount /sdcard. I suspect it has something to do with the encryption. I am not interested in recovering anything because I have already backed up before copying the setup files on both the internal and the external sd ( before it crashed ).
Thank you in advance,
EDIT: I have tried to flash it with jodin3 on a Macbook Pro and it didn't end up successfully. I have flashed using Odin 3.10 and the system booted up so that I could remove the encryption. Once done, I have flashed AntaresOne's CM12 build and everything works flawlessly. Thank you for your support!

(solved) 0 MB Internal Storage help

So i used TWRP_multirom_flo_20150630.img
and was able to flash supersu
I was following cyanogenmod wiki instruction on installing 12.1 (I was on 6.01) and was up to the step were it told me to factory reset in TWRP. I was unable to flash CM 12.1 because it was unable to mount "stuff". it also said in the log that E:unable to find partition size for "...."
So i used wugfresh root tool kit to restore it back to stock. When i try to root using the root toolkit, it gives me the same unable to mount .... messages. I am also unable to wipe>format data since it always says failed.
How do i fix the partitions so i can root (thats all i care about now) I restored my nexus numerous times but i cant find a solution. Thanks for the help

S8 TWRP Error

Hi all,
Yesterday I managed to root my phone all fine with TWRP and SuperSU. Then after incorrectly uninstalling the security log agent and getting a million errors I foolishly deleted the stock OS.
I have download the correct version for my phone and location but now TWRP fails to launch.
I get the follows errors when booting to the recovery.
Failed to mount /data (invalid argument)
Unable to recreate /data/media folder
Unable to mount storage
Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps
I have googled a millions things and am still stuck.
Interestingly tho, If i install the Indian version of the OS, it loads and roots no problems (I'm from New Zealand).
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi
Your internal memory now corrupt you have to format it.
Use twrp wipe option select internal memory then format to fat32 after that again do same thing. This time choose its original format type.

Hi, thanks for the fast reply.
Iv'e tried this option, I installed the Indian OS which works with TWRP, formatted the Data drive to FAT (Fat32 isn't an option) and then back to EXT4. I then used Odin to Install the carrier firmware I want to run and the same errors occurred. Could it be a problem with the actual OS?
Edit** When I install the Carrier firmware I can't get TWRP to open, these errors occur as soon as it opens, and then it crashes and reboots

Hi hi, tried that several times. Would still like to find out what is causing the issue but have now installed Nemisis and all is working perfrctly which makes me think it's the OS as opposed to my file system, considering I have installed multiple other versions and ran TWRP no problems.
Got same problem here. Installed TWRP to flash a custom rom, TWRP can't mount /data.
Google doesn't give me any solutions
This fixed it for me:
- download stock firmware from sammobile & flash with Odin
- go into stock recovery
- wipe data and cache partitions
- flash twrp using odin
After that, TWRP was able to mount /data and function normally again

I know it's a bit late to write to you, but now I got the same phone. The same thing happened to me and I discovered a solution and it is the following: download the latest twrp then the patched version of Odin, it can be version 3.13 or 3.14 which is the final one. Once you have all that in Odin disable the automatic reboot option in (ap) put the twrp.md5.tar, then put the phone in download mode and install it. Once installed, press the power button and volume down for a few seconds until the phone turns off. Now enter the recovery, then go to the format option and write (yes) so that all the information is erased and ready, you can see the internal memory. The only bad thing that I found is that the original system is not Root since the system is damaged, so you have to install the Floyd s7 version 5 rom. It is the most stable version and has Android 10, and you have to root it install later. If you install this rom there are some patches that are to record in 4k at 60 frames and have ar-sticker.
