App 2 SD card question - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Quick question for all of you who updated today, are you guys now moving your apps to your sd cards? Are there any pros or cons this besides freeing up space? Like will it make it slower opening up apps? Or will it make the phone faster since less is stored on it
Also ive had a SD card go bad on me. If the same thing happened would I have to redownload all my apps that are stored on the sd card or will I just have to like reenter saved passwords and such?
Sorry a bunch of questions.. but thanks in advance!

It'll make the phone not faster nor slower it will save some space. Note not all apps can be moved to the SD card so that's that

Thanks! That's what I figured. But do you know what would happen if my memory card went bad? Would it require reinstalling the apps that are on the memory card?

Galaxy s4 gallery keeps crashing?!?

what can I do? I go into gallery, then it's usable for 4 seconds, then closes. I've went into app info and cleared data and cache. I've wiped cache partition. nothing seems to work. it was usable yesterday. rooting has gotten me so many issues. my gallery thumbnails are over 9 gb gallery issues... please help. thanks

Did it start to happen after rooting? What root method did you use and what rom are you on?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app

Ok, you're running stock firmware. Are you storing pictures on the external sdcard? I'm thinking you have a corrupted file. Are the pics backed up any where? Corrupted file would explain the large thumb nail size.

really? well uh my laptop died too.... (I'm in a MAJOR technological crisis... and to top it off, I just underwent a surgery on my foot which makes living with these issues 100X more frustrating) I'll backup all pics onto my new computer and delete my SD card and restore pics.... but the thing is, one time I'd unmounted and completely removed the SD card and it still showed a 9 gb thumbnail. how can the file get corrupted? I've never done anything to it. but the major issue I'm having right now is the gallery app crashing on me... i am able to view pics and videos through other app galleries like quick pic... but I really want to use stock gallery cause it has weather tags as well... i just like the extra details.... -_- haha. Thx and look forward to your reply.

Before you do all that, have u tried to clear gallery cashe in app manager under settings. If not it's worth a try...
thanks for trying to help, I mentioned that I already did that in the first post . I'm actually thinking of unrooting later. but idk... I mean iPhone was so much easier to use and even I thought it was an overrated phone. perhaps I should just use galaxy s4 uprooted so everything will just be bearable to use...

Take your sdcard out and see if out still crashes. What size and brand of card do you have. 64 gb SanDisk have caused some problems.

A lot of people have been having problems with them. I haven't paid that much attention to what the fix is other than Samsung cards seem to work. Google "64 gb SanDisk xda" and you should find threads that discuss the problem. Sorry I can't help more but I think that's your problem.

I'm not sure I understand the question. But if you restored system apps with tibu, yes it could cause problems. You should rarely if ever restore system apps. If you do a batch restore with tibu only restore missing apps and not any system data and apps.

well, i rebooted my phone and it let my camera app run again... i haven't opened my stock gallery app for a while now... I've been using quick pic... and when I opened the galley app it ran perfectly for about 15 seconds(very very slight lag from not opening it in a long time) and then crashed... i really want this problem to be resolved..

I'm encountering the same issues. If I clear Gallery data and restart the phone, sometimes the Gallery will stop crashing. But it will always crash again soon....

Probably bad sdcard. There are many topics on same issue.
The best solution is to get a replacement.
If you have sandisk card then read more here.

Have you tried mounting it on the PC? Use a separate card reader and try formatting it using disk management.

Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Yeah sounds like it's dead. In my opinion integral are cheap and nasty so Sandisk or Kingston would be a better choice

Assuming you're lucky enough not to get a fake. Over in UK even Amazon themselves has been sending out fakes.
Some people also suggesting that,
keep your card in freezer for 3-4 hours or overnight.
And it will work again. no harm in trying.

Hide pictures from the gallery

I wanted to save my important pictures/videos on my external SD card without showing up in the regular gallery... Is this possible?? Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank yoi

u can download at play store.
Nice app
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Yes. There is an amazing free app called "Vaulty" that does just that. Really good app

You can also use the one i'm using from Playstore Called: Hide pictures - KeepSafe Vault
But isn't it stored in the phone memory? All my videos take up so much space...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
Just put an empty file named .nomedia in a folder. No images in that folder will show up in gallery.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
What I'm also trying to do is have a back-up on my external SD card without it appearing in the gallery

Can I make a backup without an SD card?

I have the 32gig so haven't had a need to buy an SD card. I apparently missed the part where its fairly important to make a backup using your recovery. Does it just save to the phone or do I have to get a SD card?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can save it on your internal. Copy it to your pc too, just in case.
Thank you

Moving app to microsd

Moving is not working, because obb files are still located in internal memory. Any suggestion to solve the problem?

Why bother? Just leave the app internally.

98% of the apps have possible to move to microsd sd, which I performed in application manager. I realised that big file as obb was still in internal memory
