Screen shot? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I was wondering some of you showing screen shots of your screen, I was running a rom on my Evo when I had it and all I needed to do for a screen shot was press vol down and the home button and it would save it to the SD card, I assume the only way I can get that feature is to change the rom or use a external program?

Power and home down

Or Settings > My Device > Motions and gestures > Palm motion > Capture Screen.
Either method requires a little practice to get it right. I find the Palm motion easier, can never seem to get the simultaneous button press.

I can't get that capture thing to work at all with the palm.

Use the edge of your open hand and slide it across the screen as if you are running a handheld scanner over it.

Nope still can't get it :-/ it just wont do anything no matter how far or how close or how fast or slow my hand is being moved across the screen.
The 3 button press is a bit too much.
*edit oh wait seems like the palm side needs to rest on the screen in order for it to work.. yay for youtube videos!

This guy explains 2 of the 3 ways. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyIM60ESPvQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Yes, sorry not to mention that. It is not one of the "air gestures". Requires actual contact.

Yeah I was wondering about that.. the eye scroll does not really seem to work for me, nor the display staying on while you are looking at it. It seems the dimmer the light the worst it tends to be.

The smart screen abilities, I've noticed don't usually work unless the screen is at fun brightness.

I've been keeping it at auto right now, good for the other screenshot way because this program I use is a picky on screen touches since it has moving titles.

Brightness quick change tip! (No app/settings menu needed)

I found that sliding your finger across the notification bar from right to left allows you to change the brightness setting.
I'm not sure if many people are aware of it so it's just a quick tip!
Thanks didn't know about it, nice tip

One thing I noticed is that if you launch a youtube video in the video player there doesnt appear to be any way to go back to the list of videos. You have to close and relaunch the player.

Ah I see the issue. If you put the player in floating mode then maximize it and hit the back button it returns you to the desktop. Otherwise the back button works

Great video, thanks! Looking forward to jb. I love the different multitasking templates now. True multitasking on tablets has finally arrived. Hopefully they make it so that just about any app, 3rd. Party included, will be able to float or multitask. Also looking forward to the performance enhancements of jb. The ICS on note 10.1 was already very fast. With GUI given priorities in jb, the speed can only get faster.
I thumb up the vid and subscribed
Something you didnt mention in your review is that when a mini app is maximized you can reveal a min/max buttom at the top by swiping down on the top of the window. This allows you to return a maximized app to the desktop grid.
Also the apps in the grid only maximize when you give a different app the focus. You are able to touch and manipulate an app that already has the focus without it maximizing. So until they fix this, if you really want to multitask, just gice an app the focus then minimize it back to the grid by swiping down and revealing the min button.
A pain but it works for now.

As long as a miniapp is minimized it will continue to appear in the popup list. Only when it is maximized does it disappear from the list. At this point you can access it from the normal app list.

Thanks for this info on the multi-tasking, I didn't know all of this. To be honest I found the multi-tasking the hardest part to review, since I didn't fully know how to use it.
This video = win. Answers so many questions that I had. Thank you! I am officially excited for the update.
SNote: Scrolling bar, oldest feature ever but I'm sooo glad to see it! Screw this mini-page-scroll-rectangle!
But why remove minimizing the navigation bar. Just can't understand how anyone could even think about doing this!

Any way to get rid of the back/home/app switch bar

Basically I've got gestures for these tasks set up so this bar at the bottom is completely useless. Any way to get rid of or hide it?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
It's a common feature that's available in custom roms, but not in stock that I'm aware of
This will definitely come in many custom ROMs. I wish there was a way to switch the position of the buttons. The back button on the left just doesn't do it for me.

I just found this, does the exact thing you're looking for but you need to be rooted (the nexus 4 has many methods if you aren't, look in the development section)

i would like to see how much better the phone would look while utilizing the ENTIRE screen.
I think the black nav bar is far too big. should be half the size.

I believe once apps are correctly updated to support ICS/JB then a menu (3 dots) button should appear next to the recent apps button. I remapped mine on CM10 on my HOXL, but I now do find myself long pressing for recent apps quite often.

[TIP] Hidden/Alternative S-Pen soft key gestures

Hey so while fiddling around with my Note 2 today I discovered a new feature that I have never seen in any videos or in any thread so I figured I must not be the only one who didn't know.
This is an alternative to the current back and menu gestures which are shaped like this < and ^.
1) Go back gesture: On the bottom right side of the screen flush to the edge, simply swipe down while holding the S-Pen button, this will trigger the back button soft key.
2) Menu gesture: Similarly, just swipe with the S-Pen pressed on the bottom left side of the screen.
Although this is ultimately the same as the other gestures, I find this one MUCH easier to get used to rather than the awkward backwards arrow. Hope you enjoy this tip :highfive:

Much easier indeed compared with the arrows.
For those who can't find the trick. The line should be around one quarter of the screen height and should be finished on the bottom on the screen.

HOME BUTTON: Make a "less than" sign anywhere on the screen
Quick Command: Make a 1inch line going UP anywhere on the screen
Menu: It's also works if you make a carrot sign, which is this: ^
EDIT: Nevermind, the less than sign is also a back button......

I was using a custom ROM to move the navigation buttons but last week a few ROMs added swipe Ribbons. Follow this link for a Nexus 10 screen shot with a right hand Ribbon including navigation controls (this is not my screen shot). Ribbons default to auto hide.
With the right custom ROM and swipe Ribbons I always have a full screen with an auto hide navigation bar and notifications. You can just swipe down with one finger to have the notifications display at any time. There are multiple kinds of Ribbons and they are fully configurable (content, position, colors, autohide delay ... etc).
Check in the Developers threads to see which ROMs are supporting swipe Ribbons. I use Buttered +Aroma, follow the link in my signature. I have seen some bugs but for the most part they work well and have already become part of my daily-driver configuration.
My own set up uses a right hand Ribbon for navigation contols and Sidebar for left hand app shortcuts. I had already purchased Sidebar before Ribbons were available.
