[Q] SMS vibration - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I looked everywhere for this and haven't seen anything.
If I set the entire phone to vibrate mode, incoming SMS won't vibrate.
Phone calls, email, all vibrate. SMS does not.
They only way I can get incoming SMS to vibrate is by setting SMS to "Also vibrate when notified"
The problem with this: Then SMS vibrates all the time, where phone is in vibrate or has sound on.
How do I set the SMS to only vibrate when the phone is set to vibrate?

I haven't found a way to do what you are requesting as of yet. Google took this away with the JB update I believe. However CM has an option in setting called profiles that will do this for you when properly set up. If you find something let us know I'd be interested.

There has to be some way around this, without the need to use a 3rd party sms app. I like the stock messaging app, but don't care for no vibration or vibrate all the time.
I also have an issue where the screen doesn't actually come on when sms is received, but I see a number of people on Sprint have that problem.
If I can find anything, I will post back. Hope to check some more tonight when I get off work.

SMS Vibrate

Has anyone noticed that when set to vibrate mode, when an SMS is recieved it vibrates for a lonnnnnnnnnnng time?
I have found that you can change the vibrate length for calls, but none of this seems to work for sms's.
Anyone know of a way to shorten the length of the sms vibrate?
Also, reading the text doesn't cancel the vibrate, is there a way to fix this instead of/as well as the above?
Regards,
Chris

You could take a look at pocketmax's Phone Alarm is this takes over all notifications regarding SMS/Emails/Voice and Missed calls.
Not sure if it solves the looonnnnng vibrate issue though.
Matt
nah i cant see that pocketmax's Phone Alarm allows you to change the duration or the vibrate.

threaded sms app

I have the threaded sms app and for the love of god i cannot make it vibrate when i receive a text message. Can someone please explain to me how to make my phone vibrate when i get a text message through the threaded sms app.
any help would be great
have you tried going to sounds and notifications and turning on vibrate for palm sms...start-->settings (personal) -->sounds and notification-->notification-->select the one for the sms threaded text and then select vibrate.
let me know if this helps
i selected vibrate and it still doesnt vibrate.
try this
try going to start->setting->sounds&notifications->make sure the programs and notifications(alarms, reminders) are checked off.
I cant get mine to STOP vibrating on the SMS. It also makes the noise i chose, but vibrates first. now thats annoying!
Did you do the hack to turn off your LEDs? That also stops vibration. Is it just with SMS or with all vibration?

[Q] Notification Vibration While On Call

Guys,
I keep the vibrate notification on for my text/mms messages 'cuz i like to know when I get them if I have music on in the car or something, etc. Today I was on the phone with a friend and got a text -she likened the noise that the vibration made to a "truck horn." Is there a way to get the vibration to only vibrate when not on a call? I've so far only found a way to turn it either full-on or full-off.
This is one of the reasons I prefer handcent over the default SMS app. It has all sorts of notifications options including the ability to selectively enable/disable sound and/or vibration for notifications when on a call. I have both off so incoming text messages never interrupt my calls.

[Q] epic will not vibrate w/ new texts

when i have my phone on vibrate it does so with calls but not on texts even though i turned on the option under the settings for texts. i also tried audiomanager which doesnt seem to work either.
anyone else having this problem and is there a way to fix it?
Annoying as it is, the vibrate for incoming texts is controlled separately from the ringer volume. Meaning that if you turn on vibrate, it will always vibrate even if your phone isn't set to vibrate.
Menu -> Settings -> Vibrate from the text thread list.
My solution is to use the Tasker app to vibrate the phone when I receive a text on the condition that variable %SILENT = vibrate.
What I'm trying to say is that even when I go to settings and vibrate under text menu it doesn't vibrate on texts. I may give that app a try.

I started having this problem a few days ago and just solved it. I'm using Handcent for SMS, and even though my phone was set to vibrate, and Handcent notifications were set to vibrate, suddenly all of my notifications (Handcent and otherwise) stopped vibrating. Vibrate still worked on calls. I simply downloaded the free app "Sound Manager" from the Market and went to Vibrate from the Menu. For some reason Vibrate for Notifications was set to "Never". Not sure how, since I don't think there's a setting for this in the stock settings on the Epic, but I changed it and now vibrate works on all notifications again.
To me this is easier than setting something up in Tasker (though Tasker is way cool).
Sweet! Thanks so much its finally working now...

[Q] New email alert vibrates in Vibrate mode

Hello everyone,
Whenever I get a new email in my Gmail box, my phone vibrates when in Vibrate Mode. But in Gmail options, I have vibration on new emails explicitly disabled. It seems the phone itself is overriding that setting. How can I get this to stop?
I don't want all vibrations in Vibrate Mode disabled though. I would still like my phone to vibrate for incoming text messages, but not for emails.

To my knowledge, what vibrate mode does is take all audible notifications and make them vibrate. That being said, if you have any notification on for your gmail, it will then vibrate when you get an email.

Hmm, makes sense I suppose, though it's not the best way to handle the scenario. If you have vibration for a notification specifically turned off, then the phone shouldn't take it upon itself to add a vibration to it just because the phone is in Vibrate Mode. I guess I'm just used to the more intelligent way Cyanogenmod does it where it provides an option to turn off vibration during a notification if has already been turned off in the app itself.
I am waiting VERY patiently for Cyanogenmod nightlies for this phone...
Yeah, well it's just over 3 weeks until this phone will be liberated as it should have been released originally! Until then, you could try playing around with a 3rd party app for sounds, etc. I don't have any to suggest unfortunately, because I don't use them, but it's just a thought.
What mcmb03 states seems true and definitely applying in Gmail app's case. I can only get it to stop vibration notification (when phone is set to vibrate mode) if I completely turn off the (or uncheck) Label notifications from my Gmail account settings.
Bug?
Either way, I sent feedback via the "Send feedback" option within the app. Fingers crossed I'm not the only one who has reported this "issue" to them and they will correct the Vibrate check function to override device/system setting.

I have my Gmail inbox set to the settings shown in my screenshot. I tested to confirm for you, these settings - mine does not vibrate when phone is in vibrate mode because it is unchecked.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Gmail app?
Well, I somewhat lied. I received upwards of 15 emails when in vibrate mode with "vibrate" unchecked and it did not vibrate. However, I have just received a couple shortly after posting and my phone DID vibrate... Odd...
EDIT: The emails to my Gmail app i received while my phone was in Vibrate mode with the vibrate feature DISABLED, those emails were sent to me with high priority, they were not a regular email. Just a note. Still weird.
