After two HTC Ones going bad on me in 1 week, i have switched to the S4. The first one would lose signal and i would have to restart the phone to receive it again. The second one, the home button wasn't working right, i would have to press it many times for it to work. So i exchanged it today for the S4. I hope i have better luck with this one.

I had the signal issue on AT&T with 4 LTE phones (Skyrocket GSII, HTC One X+, HTC 8X, and One). I don't live in a LTE area and I think non-LTE AT&T towers have an issue with LTE devices. No knowledge, just gut. But the latest stock ROM on the One with LTE turned off fixed it for me.

Mini story where the One Won:
You'll be coming back soon!
M8 upgraded from the iPhone to the S4, looking for something more powerful and customizable, after using it for a week she thought it was too clunky and it lagged quite a lot for a phone with a BEAST of a processor (S600), so she swapped it for the One, thinks it's more sophisticated with that premium flare, and is now LOVING IT!
Thank you for reading this story, goodbye

The first issue sounds like a problem with your SIM, which a new one cloud have solved, the second is a known issue for which an update has been issued.

They replaced the sim, didn't help, dont know about the update, my phone was up to date.
You can easily tell samsung is a joke by holding an S3 and clicking the home button.
It takes like 2-3 seconds for it to respond - I get faster transitions with my nokia e71 with 300mhz processor.
Samsung is just a rushed, cheaply made product that should not cost over 150$ without contract.
Somehow I lol'd this post and some of the replies. Well good luck living with your new S4. Hopefully you won't be regret and missing HTC One badly. :3

That's a feature, at least on the sgs2 and could be disabled in custom roms, it's to allow for multi click combos.

Att users still didn't get that update. I know that there are multiple SIM makers, some are more troublesome than others if you got a SIM from the same manufacturer you could still get trouble.
I tried out the HTC One and traded it for the Galaxy too.
The One S and GS2, that is. I deeply regret it now, because the only reason I traded in the One S was b/c of the oversaturated colors on the camera. the GS2 was crappy in every other way.
Does anyone know if HTC fixed the colors on the One S camera?
good luck man, they are both great phones, you cannot go wrong with any of them.

Here's a short post to tell y'all that I believe I have found the perfect phone. Its name is the Galaxy S II...
I've owned it since the first day my French carrier released it in June.
Like all of us, I've tweaked it in any conceivable way and tried quite a few exotic things (including pre-pre alpha ics builds) and now, I feel I don't really need to tweak it anymore because my combo feels just about perfect:
Revolution Rom 4 + Siyah kernel 2.4.2 + newly updated adw launcher ex with neon theme.
Fast, reliable, perfect.
Thank you for your attention. You may resume normal activity.

Same setup here, it's extremely snappy. I prefer Launcher Pro I find it smoother, but yeah that's a great setup.
Make sure you get the second version of 2.4.2 which includes sched_mc=1 which saves battery, I find it smoother too.

Nothing is perfect.
Agree that no phone is perfect. You should say this is the best phone you have ever used instead. I was going to try same setup as you do and now I'm convinced.
It would be great IF it had a better audio chip. That is my only knock against it. The music quality is very poor even with my good earbuds. Bummer...
The perfect phone is one that elates me to planes equivalent to where vegetable matter would take me. Other than that, the sgs 2 is close.
Nothing is perfect but some things are closer to perfection than others, the sgs2 being one of them.

I have an iphone 4, but still s2 rocks!!!
did u guys try MiUi by any chance ????????? its just awsome.
after i flashed miui i can't think of another way to make this phone even more perfect (except flashing miui 4.0 which is coming soon)
The perfect ultimate phone will have a feature that allows you to have 2 SIM cards which simultaneously work, this will probably be a long time coming but im sure it will happen, how cool would it be to have just 1 phone (i have 2 mobiles a SGSII and a Samsung Tocco - 1 Irish SIM and 1 UK SIM) where you can make a receive calls and use all the features, or just switch one off and have the other one on,etc, etc i do know there are dual SIM adapters but as far as im aware this doesn't allow you to have both SIM cards on at the same time you need to switch from one to the next.

MIUI ROM's for me is more style over substance, im not saying it's not good but there are far better ROM's out there.
It's not even perfect yet. ICS has yet to come out both unofficially and officially.
Still, the audio chip is still ****. No big deal anyway, I've learned to bear with it.
The perfect phone is different for everyone. But I agree with ccl. That combo is pretty damn close for me. I also undervolted mine btw and clocked up to 1400. Same battery time as before. Even better performance.

why not the one s? i'm seriously considering moving/upgrading to the one s because i'm tired of people saying that my phone is "thick" and "heavy", so the one s is perfect for me

I'm also considering the HTC One S... but I will not be purchasing the grey/blue accent version. I've heard that the One S might be released in black/red accents later, likely related to the chipping that occurred to the international version with this MAO treatment. If anyone has any real news regarding the release of this version on US T-Mobile, please post here or start a thread... I follow TmoNews.com, but haven't read anything definitive yet.
Great read; only thing I missed was your reaction to the speed boost vs G2? What is your impression?
Thank you for mentioning that HTC should not name their web browser "Internet". Pet peeve of mine! There is an AOKP setting (I think it's AOKP?) that lets you use the volume up/down key when you have the IME keyboard out to move back/forward over the text input line. When that comes to your One S it should help ease backing up a few characters since you now lack a trackpad.
Your review speaks similarly to what mine would, I'm sure. Some of the reasons you speak of (and obviously, no QWERTY) are the reasons I am not buying one of these new flagship phones. IF there is a QWERTY and it completely blows or is locked down then I'll be considering moving to a non-qwerty phone, but let's be realistic here. New hardware and thinness do not matter. Those aren't new features, they're expected with new devices and aren't something that will add sway to me purchasing the device.
I think the SIII is pretty hideous, personally, and while I have a Samsung TV, I'm not the biggest fan of their mobile device build quality. That said, some of the features in the SIII are pretty badass. I dunno if I'd enable that feature that creepily detects my eyes, but I do dig the wireless charging amongst other things.
People are so blown away by the One S/X when they don't seem to realize that all new [flagship] devices coming out this year will have similar hardware.. so if that's the case, then why not wait a few months and see what else is announced? I guess I'm just old fashioned and tend to wait to see what the user reaction is to new devices, as well as the user/dev community, etc. Because those things matter!

Its so nice when your phone is dying and it takes only a few second to change the battery and go.

XDA is a forum, and in the General Questions section it actually is a "I'ma post anything that comes to mind," as long as it's a question that pertains to category (in this case Samsung Galaxy S3). It's a great question that cuts through initial hype of the phone and asks users if after using it for a bit it still holds up to all that hype.
Again, the S3 is fantastic.

bump ^^this is a great question, i find more often then not that things tend to have an allure from the outside looking in that just isn't the same once you are on the inside, but people tend to hide their disappointment from the masses due to the fact that they spent the last 2 months harping on about it's awesomeness.
You definitely have to get used to them. I'd suggest finding a friend that has one and play around with it for ten minutes or so. If it's still not to your liking then wait for another powerhouse phone to come out (there should be a few more this year) and hopefully that'll be what you're looking for. If you're able to get used to the buttons it really is a magnificent looking device. Good luck either way.

People ask questions in the general forum all the time. The only way I've been able to draw a distinction is the Q&A questions are almost always matter-of-fact. You ask "How do you do..." or "Does this phone have..." etc. I don't know if that's the way things are supposed to be, but its a trend I've noticed.
My GS3, never! The screen is great, the phone is responsive. TouchWiz, while maybe not as good as stock (though to be honest I actually think its launcher is nicer than stock; messaging etc. definitely not) brings lots of useful extra features. And best of all, I can use it for AGGGGGGES.
Regarding the buttons, I like the reassurance of having the buttons off-screen. The home button can be felt, and just tapping above the bottom edges of the phone will register as the other two, so you don't have to look down to make sure you don't miss.
nah i love my s3 and especially after using the s2 and smashing the screen i was using a $20 phone waiting for the s3 to come out and its all i hoped for.

My wife and i also get this in the UK, on two different networks. I've only experienced this on the S3, not the Note, Tab or S2 though.
I hope for a fix soon.
Really strange since I experienced the opposite when I upgrade from S2 to S3. Used to get like 1-1.5 down and 0.1 up, now I get like 2+ down and .5 up.
For reference: 1010 HK
Rom: WanamLite v 1.4
My results may not be relevant being from Australia but I was getting about 4-5Mbs with my HTC sensation and coming to the S3 i'm averaging 5.5-7.5Mbs. Still not as great as my work colleagues Galaxy Nexus who almost always pulls 1Mbs more when doing a speed test at the same time.

Please verify if both mobile phones are connected to the same antenna.
The S3 is blazing fast (compared to iPhones), however I've had the same issue as you.
The reason was that my provider kept (and still keeps trying) to push APN settings with a stupid HTTP-proxy which is completely overloaded and half of the time breaks the connection anyway.
Just remove the proxy IP (if any) from the APN settings, verify it's gone and try again.
If you have an account to paid VPN, you can also try this as it should give the same accelerated speed.
Yeah carrier tries to push settings on this phone.

Had this phone over a month and still haven't seen it switch from 4g.
As far as carriers go, you get what you pay for. Get a cheaper carrier, most likely you'll notice it.
My SGS3 got better reception than iPhone 4s had and on sgs3 i dont have and failed calls, which I cant say for iPhone 4s (same network provider). Also sgs3 got better Wlan reception.

I have an available upgrade right now, what should I be looking at? I was thinking about the Samsung Galaxy III. I broke my phone in two pieces so kind of in a time crunch to get something fast.
Thanks!
Well depends on your personal preference. Since you already have the OG EVO I would recommend the new EvoLTE. Great all around phone & a major upgrade from your deceased phone. The GSIII is also a great phone with almost identical specs & performance. Most of the disagreements comes down to personal preferences like Sense vs TouchWiz or LCD2 vs AMOLED. Both are excellent phones and you really can't go wrong with either.

The white Evo LTE comes out on Sunday it looks nice if you don't like the black one.
P.s. I have the Evo 4g LTE in black and I love how blazing fast it island its easy to root

Did your EVO actually split in half!? If so I want to see pics... ya I'm weird like that
if you like aosp go for the galaxy nexus as it will always get the latest android updates first since its a google phone.
Pics or it didn't happen

My vote is G S III.
How did you break the phone in two?
Ditch Sprint. I switched my Evo to Pageplus prepaid and now my GN on Straight Talk and loving the prepaid (5mb dl on hspa+)

YAAAA thats what I'm talking about... I mean ohh sorry bro. How the hell did that happen. I love how the back cover is just chilling there with no marks. I mainly work with HTC's I'm not sure how you get out the internal SD on the GNEX but it shouldn't be hard. Wish I could help you out more. Though I am currently bidding on a broken GNEX on ebay. So hopefully soon I will know all the hardware in and outs of it.

I'm back to my Thunderbolt but so pissed that theres no ICS roms! WTF! Grrrrrr
JB is already out and it rocks... I guess I'll just get an S3......
But the thing I LOVE about the HTC that it actually is smart enough to see many contacts and it gives you suggestions to MERGE them! What a concept! My Nexus had 1180 contacts.... none merged. total fail.
