[Q] Reset the phone - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Noob question.
If I go into stock recovery and reset the phone will I loose the Rooting I did and also the two files I swapped to get the hotspot. (service.odex files). I'm on MDL Odex
For the life of me I can not get rid of the insufficient storage message when I try to update apps in play store. It also prevents me from installing anything on the device outside of play store new. Lucky.patcher is an example I can't install that to attempt to fix this issues because I get the error message. I have tried following every solution I could find on the forums.
Any help would be appreciated

I believe that doing a factory reset clears all the /data files. Your root should be okay. I may be mistaken, but when using a custom recovery it doesnt effect rooting. Worst comes to worst you could always install a custom recovery and not have to worry about it.

[Q] "Sorry, there's not enough space to install this item." - HELP!

Nevermind. I found a fix. please delete this? I don't know how.
How did you fix it? I am assuming you flashed over voo doo just like I did. I have tried to uninstall voo doo and restore to stock through Odin several times go into force close loops ect finally got back to stock, but still get the "sorry not enough space to download" mess. How did you do it?
Instead of saying "nevermind" after asking for help... It'd be more beneficial to the community if you explained how you fixed it ya know?
Give/Take
Thanks...
Read adrynalyne's sticky on completely removing voodoo. You need to rewrite the original master boot record because voodoo writes a new one for a different partition map. Just check out the stickies in this subforum. Should be the second one.

So...
Was this ever resolved? I'm having this issue with my Fascinate, which I just updated to 2.2 via the below instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948722
It seems that my phone does not have enough storage in the built in memory, which is why the issue persists. However, I do not think I have actually run out of memory, since I just did a clean install. Also, whenever I restart my phone, it wipes all of the synced information, removes the market completely, and makes it so that I must add my Google account information again. Oh, and it will not actually accept the Google account that I add, saying, "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server".
Thoughts? I'm totally lost.
Edit: Used this to fix it.

Need help with my GS4!

Hey guys,
I'm new to this site and actually sort of new to androids so sorry if I mess something up here. I had my gs4 rooted and had titanium backup pro installed, I was removing bloatware and trying to dodge what I thought were system files and just get the widgets and uneeded stuff out. Apparently I messed something up to where my gallery stopped working. After reading I tried everything to get it to work and figured since it was a new phone i would just do a factory reset. I did this in both ways under settings and hard reset. Both times during the phones setup process I got errors saying that the text-to-speech, gallery, and setting all stopped working so I get all the way to the last step in setup process and it gives me the settings error and takes me back a step to where I can't even use my phone now. I've tried installing cwm manually to try and flash a new rom but Im not sure if im doing it right. Any help would greatly be appreciated..

Use Odin to flash back to stock and when you root again use freeze instead of deleting stuff so you can defrost incase you freeze something you actually need.

Using the search function would get you the answers you need. Not only will it help you figure things out, but it is also the rules.
Because you are new, I will point you in the right direction. Go to the Development section and read the "Factory Stock" ODIN thread. It will have all the information and downloads you need to get back to stock. If you read the thread, you shouldn't have any more questions. Make sure you do a factory reset after you ODIN to stock so it clears any remaining rogue data. When you are done, I suggest you do as much reading as you can before you do anything else to your phone. Read for weeks if you need to. If you have any more questions, try the search function to try to find the answers before you post. Good luck.

If you'e not AT&T look on sammobile for your firmware... anyways... you may be able to get it rooted and unfreeze everything, then reset, and not have to flash back to stock....
People, people people....ALWAYS FREEZE first, then if you know what your doing delete. leads to nothing but f/c if you make a mistake, but its easy to un-freeze, than having to odin back to stock.

[Q] 4.3 update annoyance

My rooted, but otherwise standard N4 has been telling me it has downloaded the 4.3 update every couple of days since last week, but it won't install. All I get is a dead Android with a red triangle and the word Error! written above him. The phone then starts playing up, re-booting etc and I have to go into recovery and clear the cache for it to work properly again, still on 4.2.2 (obviously).
Now I'm not overly fussed about this update, but I do take issue with something that won't work taking up space in my phone (I'm tight and bought the 8GB one!), so my question is; can I get into where this duff download is being stored in my phone and delete it?
You should find it in /cache
yes, my ota update was in /cache folder; just use root manager or something similar.
Or un-root it, apply update, then re-root again. Win win.

Thanks for that, I deleted it!
I never even considered unrooting the phone first, to be honest, but it looks quite long winded to do. I assume there will soon be 4.3 ROM builds where that won't be necessary?

You need the OTA to flash the new boot loader, but you can do it manually too so....not a big deal
Nexus 4+ Franco + LTE
Right, it has now downloaded for the 3rd time, so I'm not gonna bother deleting it again. Does anyone know a method of removing the notification?
joshuab227 said:
Finally managed to stop the update from downloading though ...
Heres what I did :
Installed Autorun Manager from the Play store.
Then entered its recommended advanced mode.
Went into the settings and enabled system entries and system app disable.
Disabled com.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Reciever under Google Service Framework
Hope this helps everyone else facing this problem and thanks to mikebz5 for the original post.

[Q][Root/cwm lost?]

Hi guys,
Recently I updated my i9505 to official 4.3 version XXUEMJ7...then i rooted it successfully, flashed philz cwm, it worked...i did a backup, then flashed a mod (lightning effect on lockscreen), turned on the phone. Suddenly my wifi won't work so I decided to do a restore from the backup that i made 10 minutes before that. While it was restoring i noticed that i didnt had enough storage so it skipped few things. When it was successfully restored, I turned my phone on and here are the problems:
When it has booted up i recieved so many errors and fc's like procedure system has stopped, com.google.process.gapps error and so on...
I taught ok, lets delete some HD games to gain space and restore it again. But now there was no cwm or any recovery. I can't use Google Play and every app that uses Google files (youtube, gmail, stock internet browser and even facebook)
I'm not sure if I lost root and/or cwm. My question is how to get it back? What do i need to flash over Odin? Download mode works.

Hello.
I have same problem. Nothing works. I think it's a protected bootloader that will rewrite every custom rom/recovery. I had rom for ~20 days, and was just doing my daily routine, rebooted and lost root and CWM. After this same symptoms occured.
I downloaded XXUEMJ7 prerooted now, and it was only rom that I could flash. Have no custom recovery by now and root works... But probably not for long. What's most important - wifi works. This is partial solution for using your phone while someone smarter will explain us what's going on.

Thank you. I'll try that.
EDIT: can you give me a link, and you flashed it via Odin?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824
In this thread, use "ctrl+f" and write "PDA: XXUEMJ7" There will be prerooted odin flashable link.
By the way, flashing this new knox bootloader with 4.3 was worst thing that I done do my phone. And I'm really pissed off on samsung. Hope some smart devs will solve this someday and we will be able to downgrade or bypass this.
Well, I still get those errors all the time... :crying:
I taught this would remove them, but unfotunately didn't..

[Q] "com.google.process.gapps message wont dissapear

Hi everyone! I recently decided to install the 4.4.2 rom on my Galaxy Note 3 N9005 and I didn't like it because it obviously was buggy as ,entioned in the thread. So I wanted to go back to my nandroid backup which I had made before installing the rom. It all went right in CWM and no errors, so I rebooted my phone and got stuck at the glowing samsung logo, so after many fixes and things I tried which didn't work I flashed a pre-rooted stock rom for it and it all went well. I managed to restore to my nandroid finally and then I unlock my phone to find a "com.google.process.gapps has been stopped" message which wont go away when I tap "OK". It just comes back and gives me one second untill it comes back again. I really need help since I need my phone for work, I have tried reinstalling all the gapps, wont work, I have tried reflashing the stock rom and restoring my nandroid again, I have tried deactivating "Downloads" in the app manager but that wont fix it either and finally I have tried clearing the "app data" for all my apps but again, no luck. If anyone would be able to help me I would appriciate it very much. Thanks in advance!
You're probably gonna have to go back to complete stock. Grab your stock image and flash via odin, boot it up and see if it gives you the error without installing custom recovery and your backup. That way you'll know where the error lays.

Forgot to mention but when I return to complete stock there isn't such a message, only when I restore to my nandroid. I also tried restoring from an older backup which I had made like 2 months ago and the same problem remains, "com.google" message is still there. Any suggestions or should I just start over?

Sounds like a dodgy backup or it somehow got corrupted, I'd start over to save any headaches for future reference -- It's a headache I know, but safer I think. You could hang five, see if anyone else chimes in with any other ideas though

A nandroid backup is simple but monolithic. Most people also use Titanium Backup for the ability to restore selective stuff, or to restore to a completely different model of phone.
I had same issue
Bith titanium and nandroid restore.
Well only way to save your self. Completing wizard of first startup with feeling google..
And just restore user apps and data with titanium except google stuff..
This is the only healthy restore method so far i know that gapss.com keeps kool

So I somehow managed to go to settings and disable Play Services with the one second time line that I had before the message appears again, and the message stopped. So it must be something with Play Services. Since i'm new to android (and the Note 3 is my first android phone) I want to ask if there is a way to maybe reinstall Plaay Services?

Hi, there! I just got almost the same issue like you. Once update to custom 4.4.2, any nandroid backups which worked right before getting GAPPS' FC constantly. :crying: Try double wipes, flash 4.3 gapps full package, stop&restart android download, uninstall google play store update, etc. nothing can fix it. Only way stop the popup error, is flash stock rom. But, consequently, lose root access, even with the same method that rooted the stock rom before. I'll heard some guy said the 4.4.2 has different partition from 4.3 or older android rom. But don't mention how to restore the old partition way. So, hope anyone can help us out, thanks a lot.
