First article for me and plz mind my english
First of all i bought Gn2 every thing about it is great
The main problem for me is the screen dimensions its narrrow to use it in horizantal position (Landscape view) there is less screen rows in the screen which is not comfortable (for me) .
I believe the main idea of a phablet is to be a phone and feel like tablet but the width of this screen bother me while reading and i love reading in my GN1 some ppl mention its goofy look coz but it practical.
Gn2 is out of phablet zone it look like normal phone
Cheers

I think Sammy changed the dimensions and looks to attract more potential buyers. They are creating a new line that started with the S3 and will be used on all coming new devices. I personaly like it as improves usability, the Note 1 (wich i also had) felt a lot bigger in my hands han the Note 2 does.
So for me overall i like the new design :good:
This was a problem for me as well, especially when using the browser. I set it to fullscreen with quick controls so that it uses the entire screen estate to display the webpage. It's pretty much fine for me, now.
The 16:9 ratio is magnificent for videos, though
I had the same feelings towards this, but after using the phone, with it's speed and extra functions, it's now just a minor niggle, as the pros out weigh the cons.

I agree, the note 1 was a great device but its width made it look weird sometimes and was not as pocketable as the note 2. I personally prefer the new design and form factor much better than the note 1, I don't feel weird when I take it out in public

I gave my Note 1 to ny sister and when I compare it to my Note 2, the reduced width definitely makes the phone feel better in hands.

I have my Note 2 (grey) since 5 days and really love it. I agree that the extra width made the Note 1 somehow special. Thats why we called it a phablet. The Note 2 is "just" a big smartphone. But I never used the Note 1 in landscape except for watching videos, so I do not really miss the missing 80 pixels. On the other hand, small letters are much better readable on the Note 2, so I could just zoom out a little more and see as much on the Note 2 as I could on the Note 1.
The pros of the Note 2 overweigh the cons and I hope that Samsung does not switch to pentile again for the Note 3.

I had exact same feeling as you when u first got my note 2....I thought the dimension made the screen looked smaller than the note 1...but I'm used to it now...plus, the brightness and colour on note 2 is much better than note 1 make up for the different dimension...oh..also...note 2s new dimension is so much easier to hold hands

I am lurking in Note 2 forum only for this particular reason. I was fussy with 0.2" screen upgrade when S2 LTE was released and my intl S2 looked small compared to it.

The feeling of a Compromise is always there when first Switching from the original to the Note II.The reason that We went to the the Note and not to another device in the first place was because of its sheer size.
But the advantages of the Note II over the old Note are so overwhelming that marginaly narrower profile turns out to be an advantage in itself.

Mmmh, talking about screen ratio makes me thinking about some game compatibility.
Indeed, I have been highly frustrated that some games (I bought with my GS1) are not compatible with the galaxy note 1.
I was thinking it was because of the screen size, but I am thinking now that the screen ratio is more probably the cause !
Would it be possible that some of you check if those games are compatible with your GN2 ?

Has anyone come from a S3 LTE?

Came from a S3 LTE...Loved the S3...LOVE the Note 2 more...lol. The speed, battery life, screen, all much better! The size at first was a little big, but after using it a bit when I pick up my S3 it seems so small. The note 2 is well worth the upgrade IMOP.
Having used S3 and now note 2 I would say n2 is a far better phone bar couple issues. Screen resolution and camera are better on s3 if you can live with that then go for it however I would recommend waiting for HTC's Butterfly DLX before you makeup your mind. If I had a choice and both butterfly and note 2 where available I would definitely go for butterfly, purely due to far superior design and specs

My now sold Galaxy S3 LTE had the best Amoled screen (in terms of color reproduction) I've ever seen. Absolutely no color cast! My Note 2 has the worst LCD in terms of color reproduction, it is completely yellow...
I see no difference in the camera whatsoever. I believe they are the same hardware, camera wise. As far as the screen, when I set my S3 beside my N2...N2 wins. The pentile of the S3 is just not as good...IMOP.

multi tasking (split screen), lets me watch videos and surf the net. Forget that popup video player. It blocks the screen and is more of an annoyance. split screen video watching and web surfing is definitely the real way to do it.
bigger screen. You get used to the size. The S3 starts feeling uncomfortably small in about a week. You want to be using the Note 2 when making that realization.
S Pen...AirView on webpages totally rocks.
S Note...ability to have a device to write on as soon as it is out of your pocket is a big deal.
Battery life...is as good as you can get for a smartphone.
You do have to get used to the size a little. It is uncomfortable in my jeans when walking up stairs and sitting, but it is a small price to pay for an amazing device.

I also came from the LTE S3. Everything about this phone is better (screen, fluidity, speed, hardware, etc). Go for it if the size doesn't bother you. I love it.
I usually change phones every couple of months, but this may be the only phone I've ever owned that may hold me over until the next version releases.
Also came from the att s3 to the att note 2. You can't compare them. The note 2 smashes the s3 in every way. The screen is so much brighter. The loud speaker is at least twice as good. It's way faster. Everything on this phone is perfect except s note should open faster. I rate it 9.8/10

Actually the screen brightness is identical but it is much faster than a 1gb S3.
Loudspeaker is the best but the most important thing is that the Note 2 will last 8 hours of screen time with no problems!! That is just amazing!

I came from a GS3. So I've owned the Note 2 for for about 5 days and here's is how I feel: It is absolutely a BEAST. Gorgeous phone. HOWEVER, after holding my brothers S3, I feel like going back to the S3 because it seems SO small and ALL OF A SUDDEN I can touch all 4 corners of the screen! I swear I was not able to to that BEFORE I had tried the Note II. Now S3 feels like the perfect size phone. I feel terrible that I'm even thinking about getting rid of the Note II but the feel of the S3 in my hands now is just way too tempting. I previously had the pebble blue, but I'm thinking of buying the brown SGS3. Anybody else's thoughts on this? How do you feel after looking at S3 after trying Note 2? Do you feel your fingers have gotten longer?

I've had my Note 2 for 40 days now. The size is a minor annoyance compared to all the features gained over a S3. Split screen. AirView for web browsing. Just always having a device where I can take it out of my pocket and start writing is irreplaceable. Sure, you can take out a S3, unlock it, open a writing app, then start typing. But that's not like taking out the S Pen and writing just like you had a pad and paper. I think 9 out of 10 times I would just end up choosing to not write things down unless it was something really important. It is true the S3 does look small, but that is also the reason why I would prefer the Note 2. I don't want the smaller phone.

I was going to get a Nexus 4, until I realised that it didn't really improve on any area of the Galaxy Nexus that really mattered to me (storage space, battery life, camera quality etc).
It was either the Note 2 or HTC One X+ for me, but with the Note I felt I could get rid of my N7 which I also hardly used to help fund the Note 2.
I do prefer Vanilla Android but I never had THAT much of a problem with TouchWiz on the S2.
There is no comparison. For me personally the next gen smartphone move logically is the Note 2 and all the other size factor phablets from other oems which come after it.
Lets face it. The battery life technology isnt growing at an exponential rate like the other hardware of the phone. Its just oure physics. Bigger battery longer battery life. Bigger thr phone, bigger the possibility of fitting a bigger battery.
Note II's INSANE battery life alone is a worthy upgrade over any snartphone experience right now. Plus the new non pentile 5.5inch 720p samoled screen is another big factor
For me like I said, "phablet" is the next logical step in the smartphone era

No I'm not going back to a smaller size anytime soon. However my son just yesterday got a SIII and after playing with it a bit I can honestly say that it's perfect for someone wanting a normal sized device.
this is why i have tyhe best of both worlds i actually own them bought and with the new s3 rom leak it's even better..i'm overwhelmed with the processing power of the responsiveness of the beasts
I've had it for a while now and all I can say is that I'd get the S3 if I hated the size. My partner has the S3 and loves it but envies my note 2. They're similar in function, but the larger screen is a must for me. As is the pen. So it's a no brainer for me. But i'm sure for others its a deal breaker. I personally love the note 2. Also, the 1gb ram in the international s3 sucks. I mean it's fine, but it has redraws and such, and multitasking isn't as fluid. My.02ยข

I got my S4 on day of release, and have just, yesterday, swapped it back for a Note 2 (plus cash).
I had a Note 2 before the S4 and I liked the size of the screen etc.
I was impressed with the S4, but after a while I noticed a few things that actually annoyed me intensely with it.
Battery life is awful. It would last only around 5 hours, and that was not doing a lot, and would drop from 100% to around <10% in such a short time.
The heat issues the S4 have are incredible, especially when charging. I actually wondered if one day the thing would burst in to flames.
It would be uncomfortable to hold at times, especially on a warm day. It seemed to exacerbate the problem.
Another thing, the screen in direct sunlight. Even though it would be set at the highest brightness, it still would not be bright enough, and because it would get warm, it would dim the display more to "save it"
I guess that's AMOLED for ya.
The Note 2 I have now, I got it at around 12 pm yesterday, and after setting it all up how I like it, programs, themes etc, after around 5 hours unplugged, it had only used around 16%. That was after messing with it a lot. Had that been the S4 it would be way down almost out of action and I'd have to charge it again.
So, I'm sad to say, I only had the S4 for 23 days.....
The S4 looks and feels nice in the hand, has some nice features, but I have to say, the Note 2 does it for me due to battery life.
Welcome back

Thanks to this post. I'm sticking with my Note 2.
I believe a major cause of the shorter battery life is due to the 1080p screen, which is existent in other high end phones like htc one and Xperia z. The race for Bigger and higher resolution screens have put battery life to the catch up game. I recalled when I first got the note 1 the battery sucked real bad due to the large screen size albeit 720p.

FHD is not that big a difference. I can't tell at all post flashing custom kernels in fact. And surprisingly it looks much better than some FHD LCD phones IMO. And regular pen or pencil or even other stylus is not a replacement for S Pen - when it comes to pressure sensitivity, accuracy etc. - with it's wacom digitizer.
And 6.4 inch apparently - too large for my liking. Might as well get a tablet then. By the time it's out, N3 will be out anyway.
I'm beating myself up over her thinking about if it want the Nexus 7 or not. I remember having the first nexus 7 when it came out and I barely used it but now the specs on this new one looks pretty impressive especially with the talks of the screen. Just wondering how much I will use it if I use my Note 2 for everything. Just wanted some input.

I have both...and trying N7 out for a week or 2.
If it was one or the other It'd come down to the T-Mobile N7 vs the Note 3. Having both is really redundant.
We note users like big screens so we'd definitely look at replacing for that reason.! ...screens great on N7.
Not having S-Pen is not an issue with me.
Speed wise they're not that much different (course my Note is rooted, this is not).
On a either-or basis tho the camera would definitely swing me to the Note 3. It'd be great if the camera hardware were hackable!
As of this moment, I'll have the Note 3 come September, not the Nexus 7.

Note 2 owner here. Admittedly the N7 has taken over most of the phone duties when I'm at home, the screen resolution and real estate lends itself to a much better browser experience since full webpages are still legible without zooming thanks to the high res screen. Also, the IPS display on the N7 produces much more natural colors - which is an added bonus to photographers like myself...photos are way too saturated to view/edit on Samsung amoled screens.
So ultimately, it worked out great for me mainly because of the screen - high res and more accurate color reproduction means I can finally do some light photo editing on a portable device! Gaming is great, native controller support, vanilla android works smoothly, and the tablet itself is just small enough for me to take along as a 2nd device. Also, phone battery now lasts longer so I can worry less when I have to go out and do something later in the day. I do have to point out that at this point, my Note 2 still outperforms the N7 on some tasks. Maybe because it's got less pixels to push?
The N7 is definitely still worth a look if you're a Note 2 user, imo.
When I got my N2 in November 2012 I immediately stopped using my original N7. Both devices were so similar in size that it felt redundant to use the tablet. I sold the tablet and used the phone as my only device. I eventually sold my N2 because it was too big to carry around. I never used the N2 stylus anyway. I replaced it with a Galaxy S4 which fits in my pockets much better and only half an inch smaller in screen size. plus it's 1920x1080 and higher pixel density. I got the new N7 and I love it. The N7 screen is much nicer than the N2. I think having the S4 for use on-the-go, and the new N7 for use at home is the best combo. I also like Touchwiz on phones and prefer vanilla Android on tablets.
I have both. I've personally never thought of the Note 2 as a tablet replacement. To me it's a large smartphone that helps me be more efficient at work. The new N7 with that sexy display is just much more comfortable to do casual browsing, reading, and video watching on. I'd recommend picking one up from Best Buy and seeing if it works for you. If not, they have a great return policy of course.
I have both and can't recommend the nexus enough. Definitely worth having both

Edit. Go with the 32g model if you're going to keep it for a while. Just my opinion.

Yes the specs on the N7 are an improvement but you probably won't use the new N7 more if you do everything with your Note 2 already. Save your money and forget about it unless you're just looking for a reason to spend money and get a shiny new toy just for the sake of having one. If that is the case, just do it and don't ask people from thw Internet for affirmation.

I've got the Note 2 and both N7. I've been using my note 2 more but that's because I couldn't figure out what rom to stick with on my original N7. My coworkers still laugh though at the size of the note 2. They pretty much compare it to a tablet

Thanks everyone for the responses. I think I'm going to pick one up because I do lots of browsing and to give my phone a break and have a bigger screen would be a plus. And besides I hate browsing around on my computer.

Own both. Note II is good but N7 2013 is better and what I've been using more of lately.
I have both and haven't had a chance with the N7 much. I'm trying to use my phone less and the N7 more at home for everything just because then I don't have to keep lugging my laptop home from work all the time, and just remote in.
But wow...talk about screen difference! Going back to my note 2 after looking at the N7...it's kind of painful.
when I get off in a few minutes I'm going to my local games top to pick up a 32gb version. They had 1 left!

Obviously it's your call but I'm sure you won't regret it! (Btw, it's definitely worth the extra dough for the 32gb model)
