[Q] Didn't back up my AT&T s4 rom - help! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi. I have the AT&T samsung galaxy s4 and I was removing bloatware and I guess I went too far. The phone would not boot beyond the AT&T symbol so I flashed it with cygenomod 10.1. However, I miss some of the samsung features and I want to get it back. Is there any way to either get the original rom or something else with touchwiz and the smart software?
Thanks for the help!!
Alex

If you just want to revert to stock, use the firmware and instructions in this thread:

Don't remove the bloatware at this time, just freeze it with Titanium--

[Q] Forgot to do a Backup

I forgot to do a backup before I installed CM 10.1. The install was successful but I would now like to go back to stock so I can use the GPS. Is there somewhere that I can get a stock rom or reset back to the default?
My phone is a U.S. Cellular S4 (R970).
Thanks.

[Q] Google play edition dump will work on this phone?

I know that the att galaxy s4 has the same exact hardware as the Google play galaxy s4, so if someone dumped that phone, bootloader and all, and flashed it to att model, would it unlock the bootloader and would it run that rom alright? I kind-of want to have the updates not directly from att so I could get stuff like the app2sd quicker.
Thanks, Tommy

Locked boot loader is in the hardware, no matter what you flash, it won't change that. Having said that, there are several roms floating around, give one a try as they still work on our devices, I would not trust a raw dump as that might have a different boatloader that will screw the phone ge

More questions
Thanks for reply, and my next question now is when you flash a custom TW rom, would I still lose IR, air view, and air gesture? Would I also have to wipe my phone in process of flashing it?

It depends on the Rom. Some won't, others will. The Google edition is a tw Rom, but brings the look, feel and functionality of asop. You will have to research the Rom.
It's often necessary to wipe a phone when changing roms. If you start flashing, I would almost count in it being needed

Well thanks for help, but I will do anything to avoid a wipe, that's the last thing I want to so, even with titanium backup I don't feel secure enough to risk wiping and restoring it. I also don't want to raise the flash counter any if I ever need to use my warranty. And I don't trust that flash counter reset thing because it could brick phone.

Then stay stock. If you're going to flash a rom you have to do wipes most of the time. If you don't you'll end up with lots of problems that will force you to start all over. Just make a nandroid backup in your recovery before flashing and you'll be able to get right back to where you started if you have a problem.

Need to send phone in and need help before i do..

Hey Guys,
I need to send my phone in to Rogers in Canada since my texts don't work for no reason even though I haven't switched ROMS in a long time so i don't know why it hasnt been working but my question is..other than flashing stock firmware is there anything else I need to do before I send it in? if so, what and how?
Thanks in advance!
Yes. Before unrooting you should clear your binary using the Triangle Away app. Since this seems like a software issue they may check. Also make sure to unroot it and not just flash the stock ROM like any other ROM

thanks! hmm now to find out how do to all of the following steps...lol
Well in simpler terms, first download the app triangle away, and clear your binary (I think it works with the S4, check on that again so nothing goes wrong.) Then just backup anything if you need to. Also before unrooting via ODIN, you might want to do a factory reset and all that stuff in your custom recovery prior to your unroot. I think there should be plenty of tutorials on YouTube to help you through this have fun

Make a backup of everything with Titanium Backup. I'd also make a nandriod so when they give you your new phone you can go back to where you were easily

[Q] Telus version of the s5 and custom roms

Hello all
I recently upgraded from a sg2x I had it rooted and only had lbe privacy guard installed to manage pesky permissions and a few apps to trim the bloat ware.
My problem is that the s5 while it is s great phone has so much crap on it I literally have no idea where to start with trimming the fat. Just wondering if there are any ROMS availablethat do most of that for you? Pretty new to the whole scan and just thought I would ask. I would also be very interested to know if lbe privacy gaurd is still a viable permission limiting app. Sorry if I missed the answers in the forums somewhere but I have been having a hard time finding info specific to the Telus model of the S5 (SM-G900W8)
I have had the phone for one day and have had enough apps download on there own with very questionable permissions it has made me want to go back to the S2x and not bother with an upgrade. More insidious software on these things that enough. Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
I should also add that I have found the rooting guide but haven't done so yet as I am afraid of getting to crazy deleting bloat. I never used a rom just ran stock s2x and never updated it. Am curious to try something new in the form of a custom rom. I don't really use the phone for anything but music email and banking. Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, some galaxy s 5 g900f custom roms will work on the Telus galaxy s 5. I have the omega rom on my Telus phone. Uses the same recovery as well.

Right on thanks for the help. Did you find it got rid of most of the unwanted stuff? Much change in interface or anything?

Verizon S5 ROMs

So the reason why I even wanted to get a ROOT access to my galaxy S5 for verizon is to really be able to put a custom ROM on my machine such as Omega ROM. But I cannot seem to find any anywhere that are specifically for 900V. Can anyone provide me with a sense of direction or a link or two?
Thanks much!

Well, unfortunately you're going to have to wait for awhile. Even through you can now root the retail version of the S5, there is no custom recovery as of yet, so you can't flash a custom ROM. The retail version of the Verizon S5 has a locked bootloader with no know exploit at this time. Hopefully someone will find an exploit for the bootloader or a version of SafeStrap will be developed that works on the S5, but even at that you will only be able to flash Touch Wiz based ROMS with SafeStrap. That is why you can't find a ROM for the retail version of the Verizon S5.

I wonder about safestrap. It seemed to burn almost half the storage of my 32gb Note 3. This 16gb s5 is gonna be tricky..we'll have no room for apps
