So to make it short. When you install any app with black icon like offitial 9gag app from market try to scroll left and right in app drawer and yo will see black trail behind icon. It also happens in some apps with blaxk background and in galery with zoom in and out. I wonder is it amoled issue or just software. Just try it for your self. And if sombody is on aosp try it too so we know if you have it too.
It's called smearing and it caused by the fact that the pixels are simply turned off when the display need to show black color.
The screen isn't quick enough to "wake" the black pixels so it looks like smearing on the display.
Google ROM doesn't have it, because Google replaced the black with grey, so dark that it almost looks like black. If you set your brightness to full though in a dark room you'll see it's grey. This way your pixels will never be turned off
Me Gusta!
Does it have to do with refresh rate?

Is it possible to change somehow the tint of luminescence display? Make it more warm or cold. Display in my SGS has a very cold shade, a lot of blue. I would like to add a little red to align white.
It's a characteristic of AMOLED screen. As you use it longer, the blue tint will start reducing.
Though that doesn't change the fact that the possibility to change or affect white point and/or gamma of the display would sometimes come quite handy. The color temperature of Galaxy's display is indeed quite high, yet it is so good picture-wise that this becomes an issue (ie. when viewing photos).
Just open any movie with the stock video player. Go to Settings and then Colour Tone. It will affect the whole system.you have 3 options warmer, normal and colder. Hope this will help

That's a great tip, thanks! Even though it's most likely just a bug
So you obviously can alter the display's color temperature system wide somehow. I wonder if this could be made into an app with customizable warmth settings... Too bad I'm not a programmer...

Menu - settings - 3ยบ option
It appears blank on my phone, but leads you to temperature settings
The screen has a blue reflection when off. I also tested it playing the same video on the phone and on my laptop (300 nits LED screen) and the video on the phone was defintely more green-blue.
This is more noticeable on low brightness setting, try it on Kindle app, test settings, you have a slider for brightness. You'll see how low brightness leads to a blue-green tint, not neutral gray.
if some one could could develop an app for the sgs that does this i would pay.
settings menu is only available if you start the videoplayer app and select a video to play within.
if you start a video from the gallery, there is no option

Is the galaxy s i9000 different in this respect from the samsung vibrant. My vibrant does allow me to adjust color tone in the video player, but IT DOES NOT change the color tone of the WHOLE SYSTEM. Once I exit out of the player, everything is back to blue. Also the warm tone in the video player looks fake, just applies red on top of the blue, looks weird.
Hey Friends,
I have noticed something rather strange yesterday on my DHD. When I view content with a black background on my DHD in Landscape mode 3 dots that appear to look like pixel errors show up on the screen. When I tilt the phone back to Vertical mode those red pixels on the black background vanish. So they are obviously not real pixel errors are they? They definitely have the size of a pixel but what I wonder about is the fact that they disappear completely.
What could be causing these artifacts ? I tried undervolting, restarting etc. but they will appear again. In the browser for example they show Up and when I scroll down they vanish for the time I am holding my finger on the screen.
Could someone try running set cpu, switch to landscape and look for those pixels? Any other ideas?
Greets,
Jan
Anyone?

Hi,
Search the Market for "Dead Pixel Test", its a free app that will cycle through LCD colours so you can identify, among other things, dead pixels!
Check to see if you get these same 3 red pixels/dots whilst on the black cycle.
Hey! Can someone with a note set a pre black background a the lock screen background and report whether it looks normal? Someone had reported a problem with the gallery background with a black image, but I couldn't find a mention of lock screen there. Just google image search "black" and download and set it as lock screen. Seems to be giving me pinkish hues... same image works fine as a desktop background...

Most lockscreen wallpapers look horrible on my Note, not sure if my 240dpi is causing this. I use another lockscreen app set to transparent, so I don't care.
The Note's screen is 24 bit, so a picture with 16 or 8 bit depth might not be rendered properly.
Best to find a 24 bit image to test, try Google search.

Same here.
Good to know that I'm not alone. Every other background seems fine. Same thing happens with the gallery background when the only image in the folder is a pitch black one, right?

Well all those images render fine in other applications on the phone so its the lockscreen wallpaper 'setter' wich messes it up I think.
Ya, I'm pretty sure too that that is the case...
I have a black lockscreen and it looks great.
I have noticed that when I have 'screen filter' app running, it dims the foreground but causes the background to do the 'grey' thing.
I have most of the auto display stuff turned off (auto brightness, auto adjust screen power)

Looks like the same problem as with the video playback:

That guy mentions that his blacks aren't completely black. Our problem here is that setting a completely black image as the lockscreen leads to a messed pattern with greyish/pinkish stripes...
edit ; same thing occurs on mine. I even created two black background non compressed, 24 bit, one even with 285 dpi.. both show the wierd little gray stripes on lock screen. only notice it in very dim light by the way and even then if i look very close.
this is what i use. both screens look black as night.

Use the darker red "sun" wallpaper gallery image - awesome on mine!
I have the same problem...
Has anyone tried restoring?
I set a black image and got the very dark grey bars others have described. However, I reset it to the original wallpaper and noticed that the white-ish parts of my background has bars as well! Just not as noticeable, and its only on the lock screen.
This is my background picture by the way:
http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details/2754/yellow_autumn.html
There seems to be some kind of gradient over the image on the lock screen - I'm just using the default for now, but if you set the default as your normal background as well as lock background, there's quite a difference. Could it be this gradient which is causing the issue with pure black backgrounds?
I'm using widget locker and here is my lockscreen with the homescreen wall paper which uses solid black background color
I am having the same issue. I just noticed it yesterday. I really thought it had something to do with the phone going below the minimum brightness it was designed for, but if you look at the notification bar it's still a clean black.
My guess is the phone is compressing the lockscreen wallpaper to save memory.

Can people try WL (If you've purchased it) and see if it does the job?
I was looking at Google Map when I noticed the colours changing. It was as if the contrast was suddenly being reduced making the colours look washed out. When I went to my Home screen my windmill live wallpaper is also looking washed out because the grass no longer looks very green. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I attach some screen captured to show what it looks like.

Go to settings>display>screen mode you have changed the color management. And see if you have enabled auto adjust screen power. Maybe on of those are responsible.

Do you use Custom Power saving?
Could be your battery running out, so its reducing your display to save power.

I'm not using power management and I have the phone on charge.
I've discovered why there's a difference in my Google Maps screens. It seems that sometimes the map is overlaid with a white circle which makes it look washed out. I attach a screen shot so you can see what it looks like. I think the circle is highlighting an area around my satnv location.
But I'm still not happy with my windmill which still looks washed out.

wow man there is a huge difference.... no way my gnote is not doing this for sure... try to upgrade to 2.3.6 and see if that fixes it
you're sure it's not a 'feature' of the windmill LIVE wallpaper?
On the second image you have good weather, the sun is shining. On the first image however, it seems as if you have bad weather, no sun, only clouds, thus the gray layer.
So maybe it's nothing the Note is responsible for, but the weather dependend Live Wallpaper.
I know is not the same problem but maybe related,my device have some brightness change in the display, many times i'm reading and see the screen do some dimming the screen lower down the brightness and go back after like 30 seconds to the normal bright,I have enable the Auto screen power but i try desable and the result are the same.

I think you are probably right for nothing has changed except the weather.
Anyone else see the icons from the home screens when they have another app open? When I open something with a white background, like email or my messaging app, I can see the icons like for email or the messaging app feintly in the background.
I move my email app icon from the bottom middle one to the right and I still saw the icon picture in the middle.
I don't think it's the transparency of the app I'm in.
Anyone else out there have this issue?
it happens with OLED screens. unlike LCD screens each pixel is like a tiny bulb or diode and the blues are the most intense and after a while they will start to dim making ghosts or "burn in."
how long have u had your phone?
