S4 Active - Volume UP button keep getting stuck - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

As the subject states, this only happen when the back cover is installed. If I take the back cover off, the volume button works just fine.
The phone has been tested for water but there is no water damage, not even headphone or speaker issue.
Anybody experiencing this issues? I am thinking is the back cover, but I couldn't see anything wrong with it. ..no water, no broken rubber seal, no cracks in the the cover.

Nobody?

Totally same problem i had yesterday... I think this should be the design problem of S4 ... Result of restrating my S4 lots of time, I was able to start androids somehow today.
If you heard something about solution about this problem, please let me informed.
THX...

I am also having this issue, but I figured that I would just fix it with a little sandpaper to the inside of the back cover tonight. It is outside of the gasket area so it won't effect the water resistance.

Let us know how it goes. If this fixes the problem I may do the same.

Does your battery cover jump off

Mine does all the time. Its a major week point of the phone. Apart from that and the delete key in Opera (will install the beta of 9.5 to resolve this) the phone is near perfect.
It literally jumps off the phone in my pocket, I put it really nicely on the desk and when I pick it up, it has jumped off again. Hold the 4 corners and move one really (i mean really) slightly and the cover pops off.
The plastic clips where I have put the back on continuously are starting to wear down!
Anyone else get this or is it just me?
Yes mine did when I first got it. Easy fix though.
Take the back cover off, where the two interior clips are housed in the cover ( bottom part of cover lined up with the indents on the phone to allow removal of the cover) give it a good squeeze to bend the metal cover in by pushing both sides.
Worked a treat for me.
Thanks, you have made me look stupid
Works a treat!!
While we're on the subject of battery covers, do you guys have any idea what's up with the metal contacts making connections to the battery cover? Is it some kind of grounding thing? maybe an extensible connection of the antenna, or using the batt cover as wifi antenna or something? Hah, but really, it seems odd.
Good tip though, this thing is stuck on there now!
Nope, but the tip is good.
Jump? Mine has a little 'bump' in the middle, a slight outward curve. Took it to 2 service centres and they said it's normal.

Sorry could you explain a little more...i'm a bit blonde haha. The clips on the actual battery cover? where do u bend the metal...like forward, inwards? etc thanks
edit: Nevermind, after taking it off a few times it fits fine now

upside down, your battery cover looks, in profile, roughly like this:
|____|
You want to bend the sides in, on the end where it says SONY ERICSSON, in this manner:
--> /____\ <--
(Don't bend it to such an extreme degree as depicted though, of course! Just an indication of what direction you're bending in...)

I had the same problem. This is how you solve it.
Dont just bend it in the MIDDLE or else you'll deform the entire cover.

[Q] Back cover some what lose

Hi.
I love my Mini I own it for about a mouth.
My problem is the back cover that doesn't feel "solid", when I hold it on the hand and press the screen I feel the cover "creak" and flex.
Is this normal?
I don't remember feeling this at the beginning.
Thanks in advance
Everyone's back cover don't bend/flex a little when pressing the screen normally?
Only me?
My back cover is loose also and it can be removed very easily (we are not alone - see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687326).
It seems that there are two versions of the cover because some people seem to have problems removing the back cover (see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=674089).
My Mini makes some "crack" sounds too when I press the screen. But this is normal But indeed it is irritating sometimes
That's normal. I had my first unit with snug fit cover. Unfortunately, this unit is defective. So i had it replaced. Second unit has loose cover. With the creeking sound and all those stuff described above. But it works fine. Doesn't accidentally break open.
Now, after 3 months of use, the cover seems to be tighter now. Don't know why. Shrinking cover? Don't know.
First thanks for your sharing your experiences.
This is indeed one irritating thing, it doesn't feel safe and even I didn't open the back cover to many times.
bart3385 experience of a tighter cover after 3 months is strange, maybe you get used to it .
Nevertheless I hope the same happens to me.
Its a shame that this kind of design fault affect the user experience of a such nice device.
Perhaps their would be a one later.
Yep same here, back cover does sometimes make a little bit cracking noise when pushing the screen. Besides that i also have a narrow gap between the glass of the screen and the housing of the phone, but thats also nothing new for this phone .
Same here.. sometimes I get the feeling that my phone isn't safe within its back cover.
btw, the inferior edge of my screen display stands a bit beyond the back cover, kinda protrudes (specially in the lower part of the display glass, next to the 5 capacitive buttons on the bottom). Is it just me or the same happens with u guys!?
Like I said nice phone but sometimes it just seems strange :-|

It's possible the adhesives to the glass is a bit loose.
Try this. Remove back cover. Then press the glass edges to the phone body firmly. Then reinstall the cover. This should eliminate the protrusion.

Yes.. guess this was the problem.
I did it and it really corrected the protrusion, but it got back in a minute
What can I do to solve this!? Its really related to the adhesives. I can see them under the glass (kind of a glue).
cya.
Yes if you are facing the screen toward you in your right hand it will do that. For some reason the left side seems to be a little loose. If you hold in your left hand it is not that noticable. I fixed mine with a torche and patience.
Popone
You used a torch? That's too risky.

Does your S5 battery door creak/squeak when you put pressure in certain areas?

Does your S5 battery door creak/squeak when you put pressure in certain areas?
I have one that does creak/squeak when you put pressure where the Samsung logo is (under the auto focus), and another S5 that doesnt.
Does yours?
Put a good amount of pressure - is this normal?
Is your snapped on properly?

Nope, mine doesn't make any noise at all when I put pressure on it. Like eyecon said above, you sure it's on securely? If so, perhaps there's a defect with your back cover. But yeah, that's definitely not normal behavior.
Ya if it squeaks, I'd get it exchanged since it may not be closing and snapping in properly, thus negative the water resistant seal

no issues here, my battery door is strongly in place. But i do have some doubt about the rubber gasket in the back, if you guys want to take a look at my thread and post your findings it would be greatly appreciated

U should get it exchanged with warranty. This should not happen.

Mine does. I went to the store and asked for another to check on it and it did the same thing in the same location (in the middle of the power button side). I switched two covers on two phones and all combinations were with the exact same problem. Guess a bad batch or who knows what. It's driving me crazy . I'm waiting for my UAG case which I guess will cover up the issue.
Mine does. And it irritates me like anything. Going to the store to get it replaced.
Anyone else with this problem?

If you have it go to your store and change it.
I have try that in the store and my was fine, but try it on the spot, so you don't have to go back again
I have the same problem and the Samsung support mean to me, I must send my phone to the Samsung repair. They are crazy, I don't like to send the complete phone to change 1 back cover, next week I wend to the provider where I bought the phone and then I see, maybe they'll change the cover
Yup, have that too but it doesn`t bother me a bit. I use a flipcase or s-view case anyway.
My wireless charging back cover creaks like mad. Worse place are just below the power button and above the camera lens.

A phone that creaks bothers me a lot.
Today I started to notice this on my s5. It's mostly on the right side, but it can squeak a little if pressed in the middle. It's not something that is very audible but what worries me is if waterproofing is compromised or not.
Also, it's fully snapped on and o checked that multiple times
EDIT : Just noticed that pressing on the heart rate area, the case gives in a bit and has a small gap. I poured a bit of water on top of it to see if it would leak a lot of water (haven't used the phone on water or tested the waterproof before) and after i take out the case a bit of water entered through there. It wasn't much, but maybe if it was submerged in a bit more water it would leak more inside and i don't know if it would reach the battery or not. Is it normal for water to enter there? Or is there a problem in the case?
Also, in most all of the inserts the cover clicks when i put it back on, except on that right side that i mentioned. Funny enough, the water leak on the heart rate sensor is on the left side of it.

Anyone can tell me if this is "normal" or if i should take it to warranty? Is a back case even covered under warranty?

Mine creaks on the right side as well, and I made sure the case is fully snapped all around. And just like yours, in most all of the inserts the cover clicks when i put it back on, except on that right side. Its annoying at times, but I learned to ignore it most of the time. I wnot bother exchanging or returning. Had the phone for couple months now.

Its something that only a few people seem to experience because i haven't found many reports of it, only a few. Probably some batches of phones with a production problem or not so good quality control, i don't know =/ But i do know that all the clips are snapped on or at least look like it.
I actually contacted Samsung about it but got the generic and expected reply to take it to a repair center to analyse the phone - which i didn't. My main concern would be any problems with waterproofing, but i just putted on a case and don't think much about it now actually.

Cover doesn't look sealed

So I've had my Z3C for nearly a month now and I have been very happy with it except for one thing, the left port cover doesn't seem to sit flush with the body of the phone, it looks like it's not sealed correctly. Pushing it in only results in it returning to its regular position a minute later. I have however gotten the phone wet, but not submerged, but it's still completly fine. I'm just concerned that one day it will fail to seal and I'll have a water damaged Z3C on my hands.

You could get it "fixed" under warranty, but you'll probably lose your phone for a month or something. But then again, rather do it now while you still have the warranty then in a year or something when the port doesn't close at all anymore or something.
I noticed that the post connected to the cover can bend quite easily so if the post is not perpendicular to the cover, it may not seal properly.

I noticed that the post on mine wasn't straight so I bent it back myself and now the cover sits perfectly. Thanks for the advice!
Old thread I know, but I'm having the same problem and am confused by what 'post' you mean..
To enter the service menu, type this into the dialer:
*#*#7378423#*
From there, select service tests, then pressure tests. Gently squeeze the phone, with your thumb on the screen and your fingers on the back. If the number goes up when you do this, it's water tight. If it doesn't, have it repaired professionally or under warranty.
Use double sided tape.

[Solved] Help - Loca (UV) glue in earpiece... How to get it out?

So, I took the plunge after watching several videos on "how to apply a tempered glass screen protector using Loca glue", and tried it myself. I have about 7 small bubbles, but I think I can live with them?? (we'll find out).
I only used about 1.5cc, but that was way too much and it oozed out. I thought I wiped it off of everything before I cured it (with a UV light).....Shortly afterwards, I received a call and couldn't hear anything out of my earpiece? I figured I got glue down in it, so I used alcohol, a toothpick, a Q-tip and a can of air... I eventually got the sound louder, but it's still muffled and distorted. I even tried a sewing needle and poked it in all the holes, but it's too big to go in the fine holes (I pushed too hard on one, and now have a bigger hole in the earpiece - may have just killed my water protection?).
Is there anything else I can do? I'm literally sick to my stomach now.......I've only had this phone 5 weeks and already messed it up
Hopefully someone had some advice on how to fix it/get the glue out of the earpiece?
UPDATE:
Fixed, the best I can do.....
I work in a medical office, with medical supplies. I took a very small needle and poked it through every hole in the grill and it now seems about 99% better. It still doesn't sound as good as before, but that could also be a placebo effect too (because I'm upset with myself)?
I did find out the grill is a very soft metal (aluminium?)... I noticed that I dented/deformed the grill slightly, last night, while trying to clean it (as well as poked a hole in it/busted out two holes into one hole).
As stated above, I'm not sure now how water proof my phone is now??
Oh well, I know now:
1) To put tape over the speaker grill next time (maybe the buttons too?).
2) Use a smaller amount of Loca glue
3) Put the glue on as a fat strip, right in the center, instead of a 4 thinner strips that crossed over each other a few times (this is why I have bubbles)
4) Buy a better screen protector, this one isn't full coverage.
Having the same problem. What gauge needle did you use? Any chance you could look at the packaging at work and let us know?

Well.... I actually used the taper needle on the end of a disposable 5/0 suture. The pointed tip was sharp enough to go in the hole, but the shaft was too wide to go any further.
I was using a 29g (insulin syringe) needle at first, and that worked as well, but I bent it too many times and switched to the more sturdy suture needle.
I was also experienced the same issue, while applying the uv screen protector from a localised store, I'm telling them that please ensure may earpiece will damage, they told nothing will happen, after completion of installation process, uv light also used, before leaving out I thought I would like to call, unfortunately my earpiece not working, I mean very less sound.i thought I would have go to OnePlus service center for repairing. however after I went back to home, I just applied some alcohol based sanitizer, and I thoroughly used hard toothbrush and clean it, with in 10 minutes of duration, everything got cleaned. Now it it is working properly .
