No offense but one of these threads get started every day. I would try and search the forum first for your answer before posting. Also if you are new too rooting it is ever so important that you read the stickies in here first. Rooting and updating are not a big deal, everyone worries about an update that will be posted in the forum either prior too or directly after its released. Lets not act like after we get the official update we wont be rooting the phone again.
Again not trying to be rude but come on do you think you are honestly the first person to ask that question... Again don't take this the wrong way just trying to help
This guide may help you, as help me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145848

No problem, like I said no offense and I was not attacking you personally and too me if this is not your first rodeo then you should of known how to find the answer. Again no offense and no problem just root and enjoy and with all the toolkits unrooting updating and re-rooting should not be an issue. Take Care :good:

So I've heard reports about the OTA being released for 4.0.4 and I understand it's supposed to be a 2 week rollout schedule. This isn't a thread asking when I'll get it (I haven't).
Just let me know if you guys have gotten it yet, or what you're planning on doing. Make this a fun pole.

I just had a pop up that said a system update was available so I clicked install and it went into my cwm recovery and said something about it wasn't signed correct and installation was aborted. Was that the update to 4.0.4?
Edit: by the way I'm rooted and went back to gingerbread last night because I was having problems with the room I was running.

Yeh if you're running CWM you're probably not going to be able to get the OTA, it relies on the stock recovery I believe.
I have it and haven't installed it yet, can't figure out how to pull it before I apply it so others can get it. I am trying to do it without rooting if anyone can help let me know...

The update is working very well. Seems much faster and smoother.
I got the update just now. I was running a stock rooted rom and checking for updates like crazy and checking in like google was my untrusted girlfriend but no luck. Then i use one click stock to go completely back to stock and the update started instantly. Just remember to update to 2.3.7 first because stock is on 2.3.4 and reports showed error if you werent on 2.3.7.. its been since december i waited for this moment. custom roms were fun but stock 4.0.4 OtA just feels good to the soul.
I just got the message that a software update was available for 4.5.145. It mentions that the update improves GPS accuracy.
same here, If I update, would it remove my Root access? any ideas!!!

I installed the OTA update about a week ago and since then the Motorola task manager has been notifying me of high memory usage. Just running a couple apps at once will show 80% memory used. It doesn't seem like things run slower, but I've never had this problem before. I'm running stock and I haven't installed anything new for weeks.
Anyone else having similar issues?

I currently have an unanswered ticket with Motorola on the issue, maybe they can be of some help. If I get a GOOD answer, instead of replace the phone, I will share it.

I would stay away. Everything I've read on the other thread points to you will soft or hard brick the phone. It basically needs to be stock everything, and possibly locked bootloader, for this to work and not brick. I might be a bit off, but I do know that those who are stock and locked haven't seemed to have any issues.
For all of you still waiting, I just had the following chat with a Sprint Rep:
Ciera B.: Hi
You: Hi, I have a Sprint Motorola Moto X and the I know that an update to the Android Software is being pushed out since last week
You: Would you know how long it might take for it to show up on my phone?
Ciera B.: A software update to 13.11.3Q2.X-69-3-8 will roll out for the Motorola Moto X (XT1056) beginning Thursday, 12/12/13 for 1000 users.
Full Client and Network Initiated Updates begin Wednesday, 12/18/13.
You: Does that mean that by tomorrow everybody should have it?
Ciera B.: All Moto X users will get it beginning Wednesday, 12/18/13.
You: So from 12/12 through 12/18 only 1000 users, the rest are getting it from 12/18?
Ciera B.: Right
You: thanx!!
Ciera B.: You're welcome.
Ciera B.: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Ciera B.: Thank you. Happy holidays and Merry Christmas to you !

Unlocked bootloader is fine you just need to flash the camera update via toolkit to restore stock recovery then put the 44 update on the root of your card and check for updates so it updates the phone then you flash twrp or cwm and apply root again

so, folks are so excited about flashing an update when they have no idea what SPECIFIC things the update brings??

Since you're rooted, I'm assuming you probably have a custom recovery like TWRP installed.
Any official update (OTA) will work only with a stock Android recovery installed.
This means no, you cannot have an OTA update once you root. However, there is a thread on this forum somewhere which has a very reliable but slightly complicated method of getting OTA updates even of rooted.
You may refer to that. And ya, welcome to the XDA family!
