Hello folks,
Since upgrading to the S4 from my S4, I seem to be having a very odd and annoying issue.
I normally have Touchdown which I use for email set to notify via sound and light only, however when I set my GS4 to vibration mode, and despite not changing my touchdown settings, the phone vibrates for new emails.
My research has shown that yes, you can disable vibration altogether (system wide) to avoid this but I want to know if there is a way to ONLY get Touchdown not to vibrate on new email when the phone is set to vibration mode.
Thanks for your input!

I just got an upgrade to my Sprint S3 to 4.3. Now I have this problem. Did you discover a solution?
More info: currently, my email notifications in Touchdown are set to custom sound and vibrate off. When the phone is in normal sound, I don't get a vibration and get my custom sound. When the phone is in vibrate, then I get a vibrate notification for my email. I suspect that there is a way to do this via "Blocking Mode", but I don't want to put the phone in and out of that every time I turn on vibrate.
Thanks.

Nope.
Pretty sure it's a system wide thing in Android as it seems to apply to other apps as well.
Which sucks.
That does indeed suck. I'm going to try using "Blocking Mode", but it's still a bit more universal that I want.

I have a fairly new 8525 (bout a month old) and the problem is it hardly ever wants to vibrate when I get a new mail message. It will at times, but it never wanted to vibrate upon receipt of a new email message. I just figured that's how it was supposed to be until I installed a trial of Wisbar Avanced and it had a setting for "vibrate" to turn on in it...and it worked like it should. It would vibrate anytime I got a new email, even if the screen was off, the device was locked, and i hadn't touched it in a while.
I removed the trial, and now I can't get it to vibrate at all....anyone have any ideas? It's annoying, I want my vibrate back!!!

Well initially you need to pin down whether it's a software/registry setting problem or the fairly commom hardware problem.
Can you reinstall the trial of WA and see if this re-instates the vibrate function? I am of course assuming that the device is set to vibrate and that currently it does not vibrate under any circumstances including when st for phonecalls.

Correct, it used to only vibrate if it hadn't been locked/asleep. With WA is vibrated as it should. Now it doesn't vibrate at all..........
I reinstalled WA real quick after you posted this to try, and yup, it vibrates like it should with it installed.
Well at least we know its a software issue. I'm using my TyTn to post this so a little difficult to do searches on registry settings for vibrate, but will check later or you could try searching meantime.

After searching the registry and such, no luck. Anyone have any other suggestions?
My phone doesn't seem to be vibrating on SMS or when receiving email (gmail notifier). It used to, but I don't remember when it stopped. If I put the phone in vibrate only mode, and use test notification, it also doesn't vibrate.
It does vibrate when I receive calls. There is haptic feedback on the dialer. When I ask the phone to vibrate (moving the rocker all the way down) it works. It also vibrates with the alarm. On start up, I also get that short vibrate as "htc" comes on the screen. So I think the vibrate feature is working, but not all the time. I'm pulling my hair out here and not sure what to do. Should I reflash the rom? Should I wipe and restart?
I am using freshrom 1.1 with the gumbo custom kernel. I had been using chompsms which wasn't vibrating so I switched to Handcent, which also isn't vibrating. Weird maybe??
EDIT: FIXED! Thanks for the help DirtyShroomz. Sound Manager did the trick.
Download sound manager, hit menu-vibrate settings and turn on notifications vibrate
Thats pretty weird. I have used both of those programs and never had a problem. I know in Handcent there is a check box for vibrate. I just switched to chomp and mine is still working.
Wow. It worked, awesome. Thanks!
Interestingly, under Sound Manager's vibrate settings, the ringer setting was still on, but the notification setting was off. I guess this means it was somehow inactivated but this is the way to get it back. Excellent.

Same thing happened to me, I went months without vibrate
Ever since I enabled activesync for pushing gmails to my phone, my vibration notification for incoming emails gets stuck on vibrate whenever I receive an email. What I mean by getting stuck on vibrate is that the phone literally stays on vibrate and will only stop once I wake up the phone. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Have you got the email notification sound set to a file that is no longer there?
Anyone else having problems with their SMS apps when on vibrate mode? Handcent and SMS popup both do not vibrate when my phone is on vibration mode. Is it me or is it the apps? Any apps people recommend for SMS vibrations?
You have to turn on vibrate within each app you want to vibrate: gmail, mail, messages, etc. This means that vibrate is on all the time, and if you turn your phone volume up it still vibrates. It would be nice to have a situation dependent setting, but I like vibrate on all the time, even if I have the ringer on.
mine dont vibrate either

Lol, I know this already...but even when the notifications are on, it still does not vibrate. I'm guessing it's the apps I'm using...I think the developers need to update for our vibrants.
Here's a fix.

Actually try it before saying it doesn't, because it does work.

Wow, it actually works. THANKS A LOT DKYang!
F.Y.I. on this. I noticed that if you lower completly down the 'vibration intensity', though labeled as the intensity for touch vibration, it controls the vibration for sms vibration as well. It took some playing around to find this.
I just noticed today, that my Nexus one wont vibrate when i receive text messages. I first thought it might of been Handcent SMS so i deleted that and started to use stock. Yet the problem continues. I checked the settings and i have it set to always vibrate. Any fix around this?
make sure that you have vibrate checked in settings for the messaging application. other than that, i think sometimes apps mess around with the vibrate settings. try the app Sound Manager from the market place and then in the context menu they have a vibrate setting. if it's not already selected, which explains what's been going on, select "vibrate whenever possible." that's what worked for me...
I had this problem with 2.2 on my G1, would vibrate sometimes then would never vibrate again.
I think it must be possible to burn out the motor that makes the vibration.
Do you use any apps that vibrate heavily often?
Use Ringo Lite. Works for me. You can even set a vibrate pattern.
I had a similar problem except i had no vibrations; all settings squared away, hard reset, basic troubleshooting. Turned out the motor burned out. Sent it to HTC and they repaired it for me.
