Hi folks,
I want to be able to uninstall all the bloatware that my DHD came with so I guess I need to root it. However in this regard I don't need a perm root? As I don't need to change the UI etc, just remove a bunch of unecessary apps.
I've tried using the rooting guide here but as an anroid newb the instuctions are too vague for me to follow and my attempts to infer what the authors mean have resulted in failure (no brick tho! ).
So, I have visionary and supersuer both installed and I tried the temp root and perm root function in visionary (which is granted supersuer permissions from the superuser app in the process) but when I go back to "manage applications" the uninstall button for all the bloatware apps is still greyed out.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Typing "su" in terminal emulator results in "#" so that appears to be working correctly. But still no go on uninstalling the apps. I don't care about not getting updates over the air as I value having greater control over my device more. Besides, I can always flash it manually.

Thanks for the replies.
So far i've started using titanium backup as it seems easier to use then having to install adb shell. Although I installed that as well and start learning some basic commands.
For now, titanium seems to be the answer to my issue as it allowing me to uninstall a whole heap of useless apps. But I think in the next few days of tinkering i'm gonna come to the conclusion that I want even greater control. Which seems to indicate falshing an entirely defferent rom to HTC sense. Although the keyboard on the sense UI is second to none IMO but smoething tells me that there's a .apk file out there with that in it
So, I've rooted my Desire HD with VISIONary+ and mounted /system as r/w using that "Mount system r/w" app from market, to move some of the stock apps from the Desire HD (and to hopefully solve that Facebook for Android problem I described in another thread). I used Root Explorer to move the apps to a folder on the SD card, turned the phone off and back on, and the apps were back?
Is this because I haven't done that "S-Off" thing, does the quick boot option need to be disabled (even though I turned the phone off entirely) or something else, in order to keep the apps that I moved, from respawning in /system/app?

I don't think i've got s-off (whatever that means lol) and I was able to uninstall the crapware using titanium backup. My process was somewhat convoluted but I guess it boiled down to 2 things. Visionary and Superuser apps.
Now I don't think my phone is completely rooted because when I go to the default "manage applications" list in the stock UI the uninstall button for the crapware system apps is still greyed out. But for when I run titanium backup, it gets granted superuser acces from the superuser app and is then able to uninstall all the bloatware.
I would like to know of a sure fire way whether my phone is completely rooted or not though. Namely because I think I want to start using completely different roms.
I temprooted using visionary+ then opened titanium back up to uninstall unwanted apps. But which are safe to remove? I want to get rid of Facebook, Friendstream and a few others but Titanium warns me they are system components and my phone may not work after uninstalling them....

I got rid of all of that (twitter, myspace etc rubbish). Even some native htc ones that I know are ancilliary. You just have to use a bit of logic as to what might require what. Crap like friend stream or whatever wuold most likey rely on such apps. But since I uninstalled that too... you get the idea
I was gonna get rid of sound hound as well but it's actually kinda useful. One of the few apps I left on it from the factory.
EDIT: I've also been using titanium to backup more usefull HTC system apps so that when I do eventually move to a new rom, i can just install them later. Things like the HTC clock, office apps, calender, messaging etc are superior to stock android equivalents.

I had to remove my sim card for something and when I reinserted it and turned on the phone all the apps I 'removed' were back as if nothing ever happened!
Did I miss something because I don't remember reading anywhere that that would happen if you rebooted your phone!

If your DHD does not have S-OFF after every reboot it will restore everything you removed.
Ahh, thnaks for that. I've used the S-off radio tool to disable the security now. Hopefully those rubbish apps will stay away (tested with reboot and it seems so). However, now that i've rooted my phone and switched to S-off I am still curious as to why system apps are still unable to be uninstalled through the in-built android app manager.
Also, I attempted to use the clockworkrecovery mod to install new ROMS and so wanted to backup my current ROM install before trying new ones but the phone just goes to a black screen with a pic of a mobile phone with a red exclamation point in a triangle.
...unless of course after all this it STILL isn't rooted. In which case I think I might start looking seriously at the Nexus. *sigh*
The built-in app manager will not let you remove system apps regardless of being rooted. Install Titanium Backup from the market. This will remove it.
Download ROM Manager from the market, and "Flash Recovery" again, some users have issues with it working first time.

One last question then, if I flash a new ROM e.g. cyanogenMOD, will that completely replace HTC sense and thus allow me to use the built in app manager to remove apps because...there won't be anymore 'system' apps?

I have root + Radio S-Off but every restart the phone causes my default Smart Keyboard deactive. Do you have any idea about that, is it spesific for an app or a general problem?
I am asking because I did not do ENG S-Off I have done only Radio S-Off.
With S-ON every reboot will result in ANY change to the system being restored, You make system changes permanent you need S-OFF.
As for your keyboard being disabled, not sure about that. Installing & using an additional keyboard shouldn't make any system changes.

Even on CM system apps cannot be uninstalled through the Android App Manager. It's the way its designed, why would the system allow you to remove the "Android System" or "Dialer". Imagine the chaos if you uninstalled something you actually needed and Android let you do it.
You need to use 3rd Party apps (Titanium Backup) to do this, or ADB

If you ever want to make use of ota updates (eg to improve camera performance) then none of the 'bloatware' apps are safe to remove as removing them will prevent the ota update installing.

As the tittle says getting control over your DHD, so this might be the right thread, allthough might be off topic to op's post...
Anyway my last device was a N900 and that was fully rooted with no permission limits. I've learned that the rooted DHD has some limits and i've run into one. On the N900 i used the terminal for allmost anything, flashing, copying, installing, removing etc. and would like to do so here on the DHD. My problem is that i'm trying to flash the kernel/zImage through terminal emulater but get this error - failed with error: -1. -
Any help would be great

You cannot flash a kernel using terminal emulator. If you want to flash manually, get android sdk and use fastboot.exe in platform-tools to flash.
1. Reboot your device while holding vol-, it will go to bootloader
2. Select fastboot in bootloader
3. In your PC, type: "fastboot.exe flash zimage c:\any_folder\zImage"
4. Type: "fastboot.exe reboot"
After that you have to remount your DHD's system to rw state: "mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system", and manually push wifi module to /system/lib/modules/ using adb. If you do not do that, your wifi does not work. You need ENG S-OFF.

whenver you reboot, so you can use this to do any additional root functions you want.

I think this is a scam "Permanent" root is not possible because the filesystem is a read-only filesystem. But I can be wrong.
I'll download this and try to inspect it.

Well I haven't tried yet, but did a quick analysis on the APK:
Permissions on the APK does not seem to be too fishy:
Storage: modify/delete SD card contents
System tools: view and change WIFI state
and automatically start at boot
APK contains superuser, su and ls binaries.

I can also confirm that if permanent root is checked this will still work after reboot. When I was looking at the app it looked like it plugged into the launcher process. So perhaps it is just starting just after android is loaded.
Although I have not verified, I suspect that /system is still read only because of squashfs.
What bothers me is first the dates within the apk are 29/2/2008 for all files.
Then the binaries su is a gzipped binary superuser is a gzipped superuser.apk BUT ls is not compressed.
Why do they need ls the ls of the ROM should work fine. I suspect a trojan but i'm not sure. I could be paranoid but a rar with passwords come on......

I agree with extreme caution on files coming from the "wild" (my apologies to archaism1).
Permissions on the APK seems to be reasonably OK.
Like wdl1908 I was also puzzled about the files dates and the presence of ls binary.
Well, I'll run this Archangel beast on a resetted tablet and report here the results with proofs
The ls binary is definitely fishy I reexamined the rar file and the file dates for the readme.txt and the apk are 18/8/2009 whats up with that.......

Does not seem to be doing much on my A32 test machine.
Just tested on my 70H, no root either ;(
What the application does is:
- install superuser apk
- does something while it says "please wait"
(ps on adb shell shows a

so ls may well be part of the exploit)
There is a checkbox "Permanent root" that probably just starts Archangel program on boot
(this is just my guess, based on the APK permission, and the fact there is little chance that the squashfs gets written)
Well, I'm pausing my investigation here, waiting for others feedback, hopefully positive.

Regarding the trojan risk, it's hard to say, you'd eventually want to run tcpdump to log for internet traffic on the tablet when the program is running. Also check if there are programs left (appart from Superuser) after uninstalling Archangel.
note: after install, i didn't asked to be "permanent root", but it launches "archangel" at startup anyway (but no root if i don't ask for)

how long? if wifi connected, say... 15-25 sec...
next step: nothing, the button "install root" changes in "i'm root" or something like this...
note: i had "superuser" already installed (but not rooted) before installing archangel, so it didn't asked me to install superuser

Can you please give us some details on Archangel program, how the exploit works, why is Wifi necessary ? It would be great to trust this new tool, but it's difficult without having more details on a program coming from a dump archive and not a very well know author...

Hello anyone,
after powering up the device for the first time and doing all the first time stuff I did the mistake of happily downloading the advertised Ice Age film (for free in Germany). Later on I tested all kinds of things. For example I created an additional user which I deleted again. Now I need the Space the *#@% Video is sitting on. But the $?#@%¿ File won't let me delete itself. Here's what I tried so far:
- deleting the file in Google Play Movies
- deleting the file with ES file explorer in /sdcard/Android/Data/com.google.android.videos/files/Movies/...
- clearing the cache of the Google Video thing in the nexus 10 settings
- clearing the cache of the Google Video thing with Titanium Backup
- deactivating the App and repeating all the abovementioned steps
- uninstalling update of Google Play Movies and repeating all the abovementioned steps
- trying to change permissions of the files with ES file explorer and others to no avail
- I even tried to rm -r the file via adb shell (with and without su) under different paths (see above and another including shell)
- and most of all: I did not only search for a solution but actually pleaded Google and the XDA search and the lot but to no avail
- By the way - I would very much prefer not to wipe the Tablet
Does any of you pros have an Idea?
Edit1: Of course I tried several different ways of changing the properties of the file (-rw-rw-r--) to 666 or something but it won't let me

Have you tried to unpin it from the Google movies app? I had a few magazines that I unpinned yesterday and it appeared to delete them afterwards. I assume the other app works the same way.

I would root the device then use a su manager that supports multi-users and grab a file manager that utilizes root. Try to delete the file then. Don't know why a file would be protected unless another app is trying to access it maybe?
That's exactly what I suspect. I've pinned - downloaded - the movie before I added and deleted the additional User. Therefore somehow the main user got to be a different one albeit it seems to be the same. And this different user isn't allowed to delete the movie. And I don't know how to restore the original 'main' user without wiping the device. If I unpin the Video in the App the App claims to delete the Video but it isn't. As a SU manager I have Chainfires SuperSU. The only other I know of is ChainsDDs Superuser Elite. And this doesn't seem to have multi user support either. Please correct me if I'm wrong or if there's more SU managers. For root utilizing file managers I have said ES file explorer, Solid Explorer and even tried Root Explorer.
Do you by any chance know of a way to restore the original main user?

The implementation of multple users is annoying and I stopped using it.
Superuser 3.3 supports multiple users for root. Might give that a shot. From Craigacgomez post:

You're right of course. A fresh install is probably the best solution. Actually I'm starting to prepare for it. But it nags on me. Setting up everything from scratch (not sure whether TB will install the apps correctly with this multi-user thing) and as always forgetting something to backup and therefore loosing it.
But most of all - as long as I don't understand why this happened in the first place I don't know what will be best: Completely ignore the multi-user capabilities and hope for the best never to need it or as an initial step setting up a user and deleting it to be sure not to loose control over data owned by a 'first main user'.
Thank you for the 3.3 Superuser. I suspect I'm just too stupid but I didn't get it to run properly. In SuperSU I did a clean up for another SU manager and installed the Superuser.apk. Then tried to let it install the binaries without success. Hitting the 'Tap here to check...' just didn't do anything. It just said the binary was SuperSU 0.99. So I installed Superuser from Play and tried to get rid of SuperSU and then again installing Version 3.3 - didn't help. I even copied the binary myself which at least made Superuser see a 3.3 binary. Sadly it didn't really work with any app.
So far as a summary: If you plan to make use of the multi-user-functionality just don't do anything before setting up some users.

I am no longer updating this thread. Currently, you best bet for everything working is SafeStrap, rom slot, Hashcode's Stock Fire Rom, Xposed module & the flashable gapps from Cpasjuste. I currently have a work load that precludes me from investigating anything further. Not too mention it seems other have the time & a better grasp on everything than I do. I will continue to help those stuck in bootloops or with issues as time permits. I recommend starting anew with your device, restoring the factory firmware, & then using safestrap & the other items mentioned above to get Play Store & Amazon working together.
Edited on 1/11/2014 - Added a fixed version of wget to the hdx.7z file to correct the gapps download rename issue.

If you have never modified an Android Device, if you have no idea what ADB is, how it is used & nearly every command memorized because you have been participating at xda for years or lurking for half a decade, if you do not know what the SDK, ANT, IDE or Ubuntu is, if you cannot afford to possibly throw away $300 to $600, then do yourself a favor & leave your Kindle alone. This is not a simple process, nor does it seem to work the same for everyone. I am NOT a developer. I also have a family & a career, which is very time consuming. I lost over a week in vacation days this past year because I rarely have time for myself, so that should tell you about how much time I am going to have for you if you break something. Sure, I will try to help WHEN I HAVE TIME, but if you are messing with things & then sending me a one line PM saying "I brick it" without any specifics about EVERYTHING you have done, well, I am not even going to respond. So, now you know, if you still want to mess around & possibly break some stuff, go right ahead.
EDIT: It seems if some Amazon services do fail to work for most people. books work fine for me, but not most others & the Amazon App store is not working 100% either. I am working on a fix.
Okay, firstly, I have to thank @Ptiwee who was the first to really bring all of the scattered data & info together, discovering the location in the Java/Smali, where the issue in getting Play Store to function correctly resided.
You will also find a lost pf tips & fixes in post #2. I will add to it as developments arise.
This is a step by step guide for the newer member that wants to learn. I have tried to be as precise as possible & list out every step, along with a few tips on getting your Android adventure started successfully. There are no dumb questions, except for those you should have asked. So ask away & we'll try to get you an answer you'll understand.
Now, we must thank @CrashThump who took Ptiwee's solution & instead of relying on the notoriously unreliable apktool & dependecies, he took the time to recompile a fixed binary in the form of new services.odex. This is exactly what I had been looking to do, but I have been having some troubles with aapt & apktool & he just probably knows a lot more than I do. Either way, it's here now & it works.
Be sure to hit thanks to those guys, for without there help, you would still be bootlooping & cursing Amazon under your breath.
This is NOT an easy or clean way to install GAPPS package, but it works perfectly & I for one have NOT lost a single Amazon service. It is relatively low risk if you follow directions & test that things are working before jumping in head first.
Here is what you need to do to install the Play Store & GAPPS (for now), until I or another member has the time to properly compile everything into an easy to use utility. The root & signature verification parts of this tool work well. The install GAPPS script can fail occasionally, but it will not hurt anything.
This guide is for use on windows, though I will later also present a terminal command version for Linux & possibly Mac. It will be a manual version for now & I will not get to it until later. Feel free to take the data here & compile it into whatever tool or utility you want. I don't think anyone would have an issue with that, just be sure to thank everyone mentioned in this post. you can also easily open the script & just manually do everything in the script for linux. Just make sure you also grabbed the tools like SED from Ptiwee's original script tool.
For this to work, you must be rooted & have busybox installed, along with completing the steps & requirements listed below. The script from CrashDump in the HDX.7z file can root your device, as well as install gapps, fix for signature checking & the wallpaper issue. I recommend downloading everything ahead of time, including the attached busybox installer. If you are already rooted, you can skip some steps, otherwise follow the directions closely.
1. Download the Windows batch file & the necessary scripts & binary from CrashDump named hdx.7z. It can be found below in the attachments.
EDIT (1/11/2014) - Added a different version of wget to fix the download rename issue..
Download & install a BusyBox installer on your device.
2. Ensure you have the latest Java SDK installed. The JDK can be found here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html
Make certain you install the version for your operating System, i.e. 32-bit or 64-bit.
For 32-bit (x86), the JDK you want is titled: jdk-7u45-windows-i586.exe
For 64-bit (x64), the JDK you want is titled: jdk-7u45-windows-x64.exe
I recommend installing it to the default directory.
Once you have this installed, make sure to add it to you PATH in Environmental Variables.
To do this, hit the Windows button (like you are going to open an app), or launch the file explorer & RIGHT CLICK on "Computer" & select "Properties".
.Go to "Advanced System Settings" & select the "Advanced" tab.
Select the "Environmental Variables" button towards the bottom right side of the window.
In the second window, "System Variables", scroll to "Path" & select edit.
Add your systems path to the recently installed version of the Java SDK (JDK) to "Variable Value:", it should look something like this:
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_33\bin; (make sure yours reflects your correct version & path to the JDK Bin directory. DO NOT JUST COPY/PASTE MINE). Also take care to have a semi-colon ( both before & after your path & DO NOT ALTER ANY OF THE OTHER VALUES.
I also recommend you add these file types to the entry below, called (PATHEXT):
.BAT;.CMD;.JS;.JSE;.SH
These two steps allow you to use these tools from any directory, telling tools & applications where to find the resources they need.
After installing the Java SDK (JDK), make sure you also have a "System Variable" entry called "JAVA_HOME" with a value that is the same as your environmental variable, pointing to your Java SDK Bin directory. Mine is "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_33\bin" (again, you need to have YOUR installed location, not mine, so do not copy/paste from here).
3. Ensure you have installed the Android SDK. You do NOT need Eclipse, just the SDK. It can be found here: http://dl.google.com/android/installer_r22.3-windows.exe
Install the SDK somewhere simple & avoid spaces in directory names. My SDK (when I bother to use Windows anymore, is C:/Android/
I use Eclipse, so for me, my directury tree is "C:/Android/sdk & C:/Android/eclipse" this is where all the important Android tools live, like ADP & AAPT & Fastboot, in /sdk/tools & /sdk/platform-tools.
4. The script & utilities used by CrashDump need several Linux based tools, like SED & a few others. Fortunately, the GnuWin32 package exists & can be downloaded here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/getgnuwin32/files/
This is a set of packages designed to work with Windows, It will download an executable & you will open it, paying attention to where it is downloading & extracting the packages. Once it is finished, you will go to what ever directory you selected for the "GetGnuWin32" folder & you will click on a script batch file named "download.bat. This will download all the GnuWin32 packages. Follow the instructions & let it download the updates as it goes.
Once this is complete, you will then go back into your "GetGnuWin32" folder. Now you will double click (execute/run) the script batch file named "install.bat".
This process takes about 15 to 30 minutes depending on your machine & your download speed.
5. Connect your device to the USB port & give it time to install the proper drivers. Next, open a cmd window & enter: adb devices
If successful, you should see your device serial number listed, similar to this:
C:\Users\gleon>adb devices
List of devices attached
B0xxxxxxxxxSH device
If your device was recognized & you see something similar to the above, congratulations, you have installed the SDK successfully & are now ready for some action. If not, you may need to install the HDX adb drivers. If you are here, you have most likely already done most of the steps above anyways.
7. Extract the file HDX.7z to somewhere simple like C:/ or in your Android SDK directory.
Double click on the "HDX.bat" script & a terminal window will open with the following data:

What do you wanna do ?
1. Root my Kindle Fire HDX 8.9
2. Remove Amazon ads on lockscreen and some Amazon applications
3. Remove signature check (Requisite for Google Apps)
4. Install Google Apps
5. Fix wallpaper
6. Quit
Choice :
Select option #1 if you are NOT yet rooted. Once you root, open up the Superuser app & give it a minute. Make sure it is working & then install the attached busybox installer on your device & make sure to open it & install busybox & the applets. I suggest using the "Smart Install" feature. It will take a minute or two for it to load & install busybox, but please wait & ensure it installs successfully.
To install busybox, you can transfer it to your device & use a file explorer to navigate to the apk, OR you can use your newly installed SDK & open a cmd prompt in the folder you downloaded or extracted the bb installer & issue the following command (just the part in quotes, WITHOUT the quotes of course): c:\Android> "adb install busybox.apk"
It will say "successful" once busybox is installed. Open the app & let it setup. Then click on the "install" button & let it do its thing.
Once you are rooted, have busybox & Superuser installed, or If you are already rooted with both installed, you can move to the script tool's option # 3, "Remove signature check <Requisite for Google Apps>
This is going to replace the services.odex file from your devices /system/framework directory. It will restart the SystemUI, which means it will look like it has reboot, but do not panic, it will not boot loop your device, it will resume normally in a moment.
Once it is has restarted the SystemUI & the screen comes back on, you can now use option #4 "Install Google Apps".
Congratulations, you now have an Amazon HDX 8.9 with fully functioning GAPPS, including Play Store & you have all Amazon Services working.

I know this is written fairly simply, but I do this so that nobody will misunderstand. i know many of you know what you are doing, but there are new users & members here every day. I will do whatever I can to help you if you have issues & as you have seen, I have already been able to fix 2 types of soft bricks, so your risk is much more limited than even a few weeks ago.

Tips & Fixes:
1. For all of your Google Play installed app to show up in the app drawer, please delete versions in the "Cloud" tab of the App Drawer. (This only applies to the Stock Amazon launcher/app drawer).
2. Currently, all apps & Amazon Service work EXCEPT Amazon App store. A work around is listed below.
3. There is a work around for the Amazon App Store crash. It will work if you remove the existing app, delete the dalvik cache & then install the generic Amazon App Store for Android from here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/get/android/ref=mas_rw_ldg
You will need an app like Titanium Backup Pro, which can remove unnecessary Dalvik files. This work around functions, however, the Amz App will crash occasionally. Also be sure you are uninstalling the App Store, not the IntentProxy, which also show as Apps in TB.
4. I have not thoroughly tested this, however from short testing, it appears that Kindle Free Time does indeed work. It will launch, allow password to be set & rules & times to be selected.
5. If you have any issues & want to return to 100% stock, I will be uploading a fixed build.prop, along with a script to download & ready the latest update. This will erase all changes in the device System partition, without removing installed apps in the user land, aka /data/app.

Yes. Steps 1-6 is PC preparation to run step #7, for Kindle modification. You need 'option #1 - root' for any other option to work.

With Amazon App store not working, does this also include functionality of downloading of content locally in Freetime, Kindle, MP3, Video?
I've tried all known methods (except ptiwee/crashdump/yours) and I still haven't gotten a working App Store + content sync... All content requests show 'queued' indefinitely...

I can play, download & watch movies, music & books without issue. Only the Amazon app store has issues for me. Being one of the worst curated Android Markets around, I could care less, though I do plan on comparing it to the HD 8.9 DL manager, which functions 100% for everything.
My household all have tablets & my youngest is a teen, so no idea on Free time, but I'll check for you when I get everything back in place. I'm bricked again (on purpose & not from this, so don't worry) I'm trying to find a fix for another user with issues.

So I went ahead and applied the wallpaper fix built in this tool. It was fine. Although I did have a black screen for awhile, basically seemed dead for a couple minutes, which concerned me. Next step... how to get live wallpapers? I love this. Makes the 8.9 better than the 7" now. Functionally that is, minus the live wallpaper that is working with thor-gapps rom for the 7".
Yes no Amazon apps work at all on 7 but 1 person claims all is working on his but I don't see how with Thor gapps rom

Nobody said step 7,options 2+ won't work on 7, it just hasn't been tested..... I would go back to ptiwee's original script to test, and as it modifies files from the device and doesn't rely on potentially device specific modified binaries...

If you're using Nova Launcher, then you're right, you likely won't care.
GSLEON3 is pointing out for those who choose to use the stock launcher app carousel and you're wondering why play store apps aren't showing up, it's due to a conflict between the existence of the app in Amazon App Cloud and the Google Play store. To resolve this, he's recommending you remove this from Amazon App Cloud...

Guys, I am about 99% sure that you do not need the GnuWin32 packages for this to work. Duh... I forgot we are using a binary, not an on the fly rebuild like Ptiwee.

Version 4 provides more Samsung bloat removal, Google bloat removal, and as a bonus it can disable the power on sound.
Background
Samsung has a program running on most of its devices that pushes "Security Updates" onto the device. If you make the mistake of accepting this security update, even after you root your tablet, it will patch the hole and you will never be able to use towelroot or any other know exploit as of June 2014 to root your it again. So this must be immediately disabled after a successful rooting.
Your tablet is also equipped with Knox. One component of Knox is in the bootloader and checks the integrity of the recovery and kernel. If it sees anything has changed at that level it trips the knox flag immediately, which is irreversible. That component can almost never be touched. The second component runs when the OS is up and running and its main task is to monitor the activities of the apps in your system and shut them down if they act "suspiciously". When you are rooted and install SuperSU, this element of Knox keeps detecting the background root activities and shuts them down and gives you warnings. There is therefore a high level of risk there if you let root and knox exist concurrently. So after rooting, this second component of Knox should normally be disabled.
Finally, there are useless junk apps that most of us agree Samsung should have never shipped with the tablet, or even if they are useful we want them gone to get a better battery life.
I will call all of the above (updaters, Knox, and useles junk) bloatware. The scripts attached here can disable or enable the bloatware on your tablet, which comes in handy if you do not have Titanium Backup Pro to freeze or remove bloatware. And since someone will ask at some point, no, it won't trip your Knox!
Please read below and understand what this script disables before you use it. There may be an app on the list that you may actually want to keep.
Requirements:
Rooted Samsung Note Pro 12.2, SM-P905 international model.
Android Terminal Emulator: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&hl=en
The international version (P905) is tested with baseband P905XXUANA7, build P905XXUANC3 .
The ATT version (P907A) is tested with build KOT49H.P907AUCU1AND7 (thanks to @gerard0986 for testing the script)
Makes sure you download the version that is suitable for your tablet. It may work to varying extents for other models and firmwares.You try and tell me
If you are using models other than P905 or P907A, I can make a new script for you if you provide me with a "ls -R -l" dump of your /system, or even better, if you post your firmware somewhere online.

Generally speaking, you should always have a Nandroid backup before trying anything new. Also have a flashable ROM handy. I am not responsible if you brick your device while using these scripts.
To debloat:
1- Unzip the attachment and copy debloat.sh to your phone at /sdcard

sh debloat.sh3- Choose what you want to disable, or exit.
4- If you choose not to exit, the code does its thing and reboots your tablet. The bloat is gone now
To restore the bloatware:

2- Run the terminal emulator and type the following:
su
cd /sdcard
sh enbloat.sh3- The code will warn you:
Are you sure you want to restore the security/firmware/software updaters, and Knox?
They may immediately patch your system and make the existing root methods impossible to apply.
Then you can choose what to enable, or just exit.
4- If you choose not to exit, the code does its thing and reboots your tablet. The bloat is back now
Note that while running the debloat script you may get force-closing popups. This is normal; after all you are disabling these applications!
Limitations:
If you have previously removed bloat using other means this script CANNOT recover it for you. enbloat.sh can only restore what debloat.sh has disabled.
If you have debloated using an older version of this code and you want to try a newer version of it, first use enbloat from the older version to return everything to the original configuration and then use the newer version.
When you are restoring the bloat, it is best to enable "airplane mode" so that your tablet does not try to patch your system with a security update without your knowledge. You can disable the airplane mode after you debloat again.

1- What is your firmware version?
2- Open the terminal emulator and type the following commands in there:
su
cd /system
ls -R -l > /sdcard/sysdump.txt
Then pm the file sysdump.txt which is saved on your sdcard to me.

I think the only existing models are SM-P900, SM-P905, SM-P907A and SM-P905V. I don't know what T-900 is.
If you are referring to model P900 (wifi only) this code may partially work but a lot of files are different between the two models so the outcome is a partial debloat. If you want, you can make a system dump file as I suggested in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55029414&postcount=5 and send it to me so I can make a custom code for you.
Edit: It appears that T900 is the Tab pro model which is a different device. This thread is for Note pro 12.2 and since I do not own a Tab Pro I cannot answer this question. Perhaps help can be found in the XDA's Tab Pro forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-pro-12-10-8. or try these scripts as they are and see if it works for you.
Hey najoor, Im hoping that you can help me debloat my galaxy tab pro 12.2 sm-t900. I just bought it today and am shocked at the amount of bloatware thats included lol.
Basically I want everything removing that I can install through googleplay, leave the default browser.

Yes, that is part of bloat removal. To get Google bloat back run the enbloat.sh script and hit y when it prompts you about restoring Google bloat.

If i do the enbloat method will i have to reinstall knox ? Or will i still be able to keep it off?
When you use the enbloat.sh you only restore the stuff you choose. You don't have to restore everything. In your case you leave knox and other things out and only answer yes when it asks you if you want Google bloat to be restored.
The script is very user friendly. Just run it and follow the instruction. And just to give you peace of mind, these scripts do not delete anything from your system permanently so don't worry about breaking your system.

The debloat worked fine but the Scrapbook app in Air Command is now showing error "no application found to handle this actions".

Removing apps is what a debloating script does. If you want your app back just run the enbloat script. All the instruction you need is provided in the original post.

Appreciated. I wanted to debloat but did not expect the scrapbook app to be debloated. Is there any way that I can retrieve this one app, without the rest of the garbage that will return if I "enbloat".
I recall finding the app the last time and renaming from .bak to .apk and it worked.
Can you tell me where to find the apk.

The app is either in /system/app or /system/priv-app. Rename app.apk.bac and app.odex.bac if it exists to app.apk and app.odex and reboot. I don't remember exactly which app is the one you need.
