That is not what this forum is for. There are many resources for you if you want to make your own ROM, but this is not the place for such questions; this is xda-developers, not xda-requesters. And I doubt any developer is going to put in the huge time and effort just to make a single person a ROM to his specifications, unless a developer just happens to want the same things as you.

Like, dirty flash one on another? Or nandroid? It doesn't work that way. Each will still overwrite the system files of the previous one.

How is it not?
If you want a ROM made to your liking, make it yourself thread closed

Hi
I used the flashrec method and all is well. - I like the new rom
did a nandroid backup on it
I was wondering how do you go back to sprint - if say when they come out with eclair??
also if I wanted to install fresh rom or mocado 2.0 rom do I simply start up by holding low volume and off button
then load the new rom right over the old one from the zip that is installed on my sdcard
also do i make a new nandroid backup of the new one
and if so, do I take the old nandroid backup and copy it to my computer for safety
thanks

This man speaks the truth.
It surprises me that you did not find the answers to your questions BEFORE you rooted. What if you read now that you can NEVER go back to stock?

Especially since that project to take the GSM Hero source and reverse engineer it to work on a CDMA Hero is nearly complete.

You can download the new RUU that coldsweat posted, look for it in one of the wiki's. It will take you back to what you phone was when purchased, no more root.
If you want to try a new ROM you can install the nandroid backup once you gained root, which you should have done when you rooted, then install the new ROM. Some ROMs or Devs say you can install right over the existing one. I'd suggest wiping the ROM then installing the new one especially if you plan on using ROMs by different Devs. I'd also suggest doing a backup after each ROM install and saving every backup on your computer, just in case.

I agree. With his progress, we'll be able to drop Sprint as a support/upgrade source for good
hi
I'm new with the development thing but willing to learn if anyone want to help me it would bw great.
I'm tring to make a rom that goes with my company call herbalife
thank u for reading my add and for the help.
see u
you could start with the "chucky comes with kitchen" rom.that way you can see a pre loaded kitchen, and what happens when you tweak it and re build.
I would advise you to head over to the Chef Central fora for more help and information.

Im assuming you have a back ground in development? Cooking roms is not something you can just learn in a few days, As allready mentioned there are many threads in this forum relating to cooking roms, so it would be best to check those out if you're serious abuot doing it
I think what you are looking for is how to make a custom skin for Sense. No point in making a custom rom.

There is no 'best rom'. This thread is likely to get deleted so I'd suggest looking in the ROM Development forum and finding one you like the look of.
from what i gather you wants a rom thats as close to stock as possible but not actually the stock rom
there is a thread in the rom section that tells you whats uncluded in each rom no link sory on my phine, i think its a sticky so will be near the top of the list
Hello
I'm looking for some hints about the subject: how anyone can take a shipped, let me say, HTC Desire rom and let it work on HD2.
I'm not talking about doing heavy tweaks, modifications and so on... just to take a stock Android ROM and have it working on HD2.
I asked to some chefs and received some hints but It's not enough.
I don't want to think that this is a "secret" and I think would be great if some chef would share his experience/step-by-step instruction on how to do this.
As I said before, I think we could start just with simple porting of a stock htc desire ROM, just to understand all the steps. I think that further steps on how to customize and tweaks will be explored later and anyone could experiment itself.. but we need a basic starting point.
Some step by step instruction will be great like:
1) Download shipped rom from here .........
2) unrar it in linux folder
3) copy this folder, rename the other one, dowload this file, copy this...
4) execute shell command XXXXX
5) copy on your sd card
6) boot...
of course I know it's not so easy, but is just an exaple on what I ask here. I think there are a lot of other perople looking for this.
Thanks to any chef/dev that would to explain to our noobs how to get the "magic"
p.s.
I ask the moderators to keep, if possible, this thread in the Dev forum... this because we need help from devs here and in the Q&A forum it will be never noticed.
I came across this the other day that maybe of use:

Yes, I was pointed to that thread too. If you look at the end there are some questions I did. The problem is that is based on MIUI... That is already a custom ROM.
I think the better way to understand the process (not just do it) is to have hints on how to port a standard/stock HTC DESIRE rom.

Ideally the same way. In theory it should work...I never tried because sense builds (especially hd ones) are very laggy

Hello, I was just replying on the other thread to thanks you for the answers
I will try to follow your guide to port a stock desire rom (strange that are laggy for you... for me they fly...)
Anyway it's still something not clear about the donor files... If it's ok to take them from an already HD2 working rom or not.. but I will ask on your thread, avoid to make confusion
no one tip from the devs?
I'm start thinking that instructions on rom cooking for hd2 is like a secret
I've asked this many times, but as you said, no one seems to want to share this "secret"...

you can start with one of the hunderd rom that chefs already cooked. This thread is just to ask help with cooking a rom, you have not to wait.. you already can use android daily on your phone.
I have had success building with this guide but cannot get it to work with cedesmith's new initrd.gz. Does anyone have done tips on how to build with the new initrd.gz?

Did you cook a MIUI rom or a Sense rom or a stock android rom?
For the cedesmith's initrd.gz I was thinking the same thing.. maybe we have to ask directly to him.
wow, both tyween, and rafpigna, started from this, to now:
Rafroid
Typhoon
best roms on xda. Really nice work guys!
But still, no one shares the "secret" I have tried several things myself, but it didnt work. Would really appreciate if someone could share how to port a rom to the hd2.
Yeah would be great if tyween and rafpigna let us know how they managed it, what guides/reference they started of on or if they have any tips for us etc
I totally agree, I would definitly cook my own rom if I knew how to...
Hey guys its me
Well per the requests of the RC Forum i have been asked to create a FAQ For the Xperia Play using a template that is going to be used on all device forums
You can see what i got so far here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38237999#post38237999
I need you guys to help add more to it and maybe more links to help make it even easier.
post your questions here not in the linked thread
Use this format if you want to be extra helpful and make me have to do less work.
How do I ........ ........ ............. .......?
Replace this block of text with a short answer for the above question. If the answer is complicated or otherwise lengthy, avoid the temptation to provide a full answer here. If the answer is truly that involved, this should be answered in another thread outside of this document. The answer then should provide a brief summary or overview and direct the reader to the document providing a full coverage of the topic.
If any one wants to create a up to date ROM Index that would be great, if you do decide to create one make sure to mark whether the ROM is multiboot aware or not.
Seriously no one wants to help ? LOL
Nice job on FAQ= ) I really don't see anything missing from the top of my head, but if i do i'll tell what
Ummm... how about this one:
How do I return my device to a stock rom (how I got it)?
Flash a stock .ftf file, found here, with flashtool.

Here's another one:
Can I flash a custom rom over another rom without wiping?
Yes, but only if you update your current rom. Not if you flash an entirely new one.
Will probably need a little of reworking too
