[Q] rom on nand with ext4 partition - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

hello to everyone, could someone help me with installing a rom with data on ext, and dalvik on nand ? the problem is i dont understand the function of ext4 partition, i tried with magldr and clk also, but when it comes to install the rom from sd-card it doesn't work... so please could somebody explain me how to use this ext4 partition. I know how to make it thru the partition manager, i know how to instal clk, magldr, and cwm, but after that i dont have a clue what to do, just copy instal.zip file to sd-card and instal it, or what ?
hope somebody will explain me ...

In most cases yes, you will just have to copy the zip file to your sdcard and when flashing the ROM, choose "DataOnExt". Unless the ROM doesn't natively support Ext4 (which is very rare), you'll just have to flash the script after flashing the ROM immediately.

thx

Check your storage with Titanium Backup. The system doesn't always show correct available storage depending on the script used.

Have you tried a different cable? Which ROM are you using?

How to setup apps2sd?

Can anyone explain to me how i would setup apps2sd as i have no idea how i would set it up.
i think this way will be a "fail safe" way to do it. but it will/could take an extra install of a ROM.
Back up whole SD-card to example a PC.
install ẂildPuzzleROM
Start Rom Manager and choose partition SD-card and something similar.
Choose size of the ext-partition for example 512mb and you DONT need a swap.
You should now have an ext-partition and the phone should reboot automatic.
Now you can choose to upload all files you wanna flash to a folder on sd-card and reinstall rom and flash apps2sd files.
Hope this helps.
Regards Daniel
ps. their are many ways to make a partition on a sd-card, but this way should work for all users on what ever system and hardware they have.
how do i move existing apps to sd?
Same problem , I have the EXT partition, I have puzzle rom with the corrects zip installed.
But how can i move app to SD.....

If you have an ext partition on your SD, then you should have flashed the apps2sd package, you had rebooted your phone and it TOOK SO MUCH TIME, well apps2sd did move every apps to SD at this moment, apps2sd doesn't allow to choose between phone's and SD memory, that's the way froyo handle this feature.

Nandroid backup => format SD card with an ext partition (rom manager) => do a full wipe => flash v6 + apps2sd + move dalvik cache, reboot and wait a long moment before the lockscreen shows up. Voila ! Stable v6 with apps2sd !

EXT 4 Partition problem

How do I know if my EXT Partition is working??
i followed the steps perfectly..& ,y 16Gb sd card have 2 partition 1.5GB EXT4 - 13GB FAT32
but im not seeing a different with my internal memory space...its the same
i feel like its the same with out the EXT partition.
plz guys help me....
i needed more internal storage to install application...so i found a topic talking about making SD card 2 partition 1 EXT & the Other normal Fat32..i understod that the EXT partition will be as internal memory & i followed the steps
after flashing the NAND i didnt find any different in my internal memory storage & after installing some application my internal memory got low...so i used APP2SD but as u all know some application cant be moved to SD.
so plz i want to know where is my EXT4 1.5GB partition & how can i know if its working or not ?
Does your rom you are flashing use data2ext or app2sd? If the rom itself isn't set up to recognize the partition I doubt you can just add a partition.

i was using MDJ FroYo Revolution v.2.3 [A2SD+][RMNET][Kernel: MDJ S10.2 OC]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823491
but my memory got low tooo fast from a little application....so im now using a smaller NAND
CleanDROID v1.30 - Super Clean [FROYO+Cyanogen][Kernel GL v1]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917590 just to get more free space
I haven't tried either of those so can't comment. The one I'm using certainly recognises my partition and I have plenty of "internal" memory.
I know most recommend not going above 1gb for the partition as larger ones can cause a problem. Try reformatting the partition and resize it to 1gb and see if that helps.

[Q] New Rom for HTC HD2, NexusHD2-JellyBean-CM10.1 V2.1 [NativeSD]

Hi,
I am currently using Rom from tyween: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951 and I would like to install a new one from Tytung http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224469 .
My questions:
1. in description of tytungs Rom is stated that NAND version is for USA T-mobile so I assume that with my international version I have to use the other two versions and if so then the only way to install it is using aurora installer?
2. Nevertheless I tried NAND version installed it using CWM but then it got stuck on loading screen, could this problem be solved by this patch? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40623956&postcount=821
3. Is it possible to use Rom Manager to install this Rom? I have only tried CWM method and this one seems also really easy to use.
Thank you for your answers!!!

Nand is divided into two: 1- Pure Nand (EVERYTHING is on the NAND of the device) and 2- Nand with DataOnExt (as the name implies, some of the data will be stored on an EXT partition on your SD card).
Since the international version of the HD2 only has about half a gig of storage, if you fit everything into the NAND you won't have enough space left for you to install apps and whatnot. If you want it on NAND, you need to choose the second option (some data on the sdcard), but you need to make sure you have an EXT partition on your sd card first (if you don't know how to make one, search).
And "aurora" (you mean aroma*) is just a path, it IS like you said THE installer. It's got nothing to do with your installation. It is just a fancy make-up for the old installation method. Yes, you'll have to use it.

No, that patch is for something else. Your problem is different.
If you mean:
1- NAND Only, then you may have not made enough partition space for the system. (Either way, you shouldn't use this one, use NAND WITH dataonext).
but if you mean 1- NAND with DataOnExt, then it is either your partition size is too small or you do not have a proper sdcard ext partition.

It's the same thing. When you select "Install ROM" in ROM Manager, it will actually reboot your device into CWM and you will have to follow the steps of Aroma as well. Yes, you can use it if you have cLK bootloader and not magldr.
You are welcome
According to your answer, I have to download AROMA installer and use it for installing new Rom. In DataOnExt version will 1 Gb partition be enough?

No, Aroma is *included* in the .zip file of the ROM. Just download the ROM, flash from recovery normally but instead of the usual text of procedure, you'll see a fancy screen where you get to configure the ROM before it is installed.
In my opinion, yes, 1GB is more than enough.

CWM is independent from the ROM you install.
If you are talking about "boot into recovery" from within the ROM, that's a rom's feature and does not have to be included in it. You can reach the recovery by rebooting your phone into MAGLDR and then choosing the option AD. Recovery or something like that.
Just to add a little to Marvlesz's answer, reboot into recovery/bootloader on any ROM will just reboot the phone normally if you have MAGLDR. To access CWM just hold power for the MAGLDR menu then select 8. AD Recovery. If you use cLK on the other hand, reboot into recovery does work if I'm not mistaken.
I tried to install this ROM using various settings (DataOnExt / Native SD, wipe/no wipe, magldr / ppp...) but phone always ends up rebooting itself after htc loading screen. I did partition SD card to FAT 32 (primary) and 1GB EXT4 (primary).
What could be the problem and how to solve it?
Thank you!

What /system partition size did you use? Make sure it's big enough for the ROM you're trying to flash.

285. To create that, go to wherever your CWM thing is stored on your PC, open the CWM folder, open the file flash.cfg (not flash.cfg.txt.) in notepad (it should open in this way automatically) then change the value next to the line beginning 'SYSTEM...' from 150 to 285, keeping everything else exactly the same.

Hello Omkar,
Maybe, I don't understand you well. For me, a memory card is... a sdcard. Have you got external and internal sdcard/memory card? what recovery have you used? What tool are you using to know what space is or not free?
The memory card where you flash the ROM has some partitions: /boot, /recovery, /system, /cache, /data, /sdcard, /misc
The system partition could be 1GB (but... I think is too much) and basically contains the entire operating system. The data partition contains the user’s data and the sdcard is not exactly a partition. In terms of usage, this is your storage space.
I'm not sure that you format the entire memory card... I've just read a guide to Android partitions yesterday and other about ClockWorkMod Recovery and how to use it. They are complete and good. I would like to share them with you:

Hello omkar,
I'm sorry, but I'm not using the same phone model than you. If you're following a XDA thread to install cm9, it should be work.
I had a similar problem (it got freeze after flashing). I'm not sure what didn't work of the tutorial that I followed. So I decided to update the cwm recovery version and try with other CM. I followed the steps and I also formated the /system partition to make a "clean" installation of the CM. Finally it worked.

Not enough memory to install anything

Hi,
Short / long story:
I have long time unused HTC HD2.
With Android (NexusHD2-KitKat-CM11.0_V4.5.zip is the file which I found in backup, so I assume this is what I install - sorry, it was long time ago.
Some time ago I need microSD card so I took it from my HD2, I did backup only windows FAT32 partition.
Now, I need to run my HD2 , I have install microSD 2 GB (800 MB FAT32 + 1GB Ext4) but is not working correctly.
It starting I can install Teamviewer, but when I need to install HTC module for teamviewer it's telling me that is not enough storage.
Quite often is restarting and after restart not keeping any settings (wi-fi) app installed (teamviewer) it's resetting each time to factory settings.
In Settings - Storage shows 'Total space' - Available 0.00 bytes
I did what is instructed on this webpage but it didn't help http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...mory-in-android-nand-roms-cannot-install-apps
Can anybody advise me which is the easiest way to make my HD2 working properly? Means have enough memory to do anything.
The purpose of restoring my HD2 is working as a router, tethering machine. I need to share internet from mobile network for smart TV and Tablet over wi-fi. It will be unattended so I need remote control access (team viewer host).
I'm open for a suggestion of changing the ROM if there is something reasonable easy and described (as I'm not big ROM expert). i've seen a ROM list for HD2, is too long.
Thanks in advance for your help.
it sounds like you are missing a data partition, perhaps the sdcard you used before had an ext4 partition which your new one does not have. Use recovery, in nand, to create an ext4 partition, then boot into rom, might work.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I did Ext4 by MiniTool Partition under Windows primarily.
And later in recovery, I have setup 1024MB and swap = 0 M.
It didn't help.
Should I mount it or so?
Update:
I have a look in log in nand - recovery and it's says that my second partition is Ext3 not Ext4.
And there is no way to change it.
What is your nand recovery? version?
Clk or magldr?
The recovery might say ext3 when it means ext4, but it does not seem right.

As I said, I have created and formatted partitions under windows FAT32 & Ext4 and then under recovery, there was no choice of the file system file, I can only choose the size. And it was formatted to Ext3 - log saying.
