yes i have just seen those including "steel" and what i am installing with high hopes the firefox/fennec beta!
fennec opens and closes (not force) on its own oh well
Do people not like the stock browser? My votes is for the default web browser since it's the best I've tried so far. Firefox looks promising too.
i dont mind the defualt but i cannot download no files that are .apk even after doing the settings change to allow them. this is why i switched browsers. i really wanted to try this fennec except it doesnt launch...

LMAO! Wait... don't make me add you to my blocked list!
Have you flagged Allow Unknown Sources in Settings-->Applications?
Doing so default browser should download .apk

yes i have but it still dont work but does for other browsers.
1) use Download Crutch for default browser to download anything.
2) Tried default one & Skyfire 2.0. Didn't like Skyfire - jumpy zooms, videos play only partially and can't be navigated (forward/back), etc. Still keeping Skyfire just in case, but using default one.
The only serious quirk of the default browser - lack of proper visual tab interface for selecting between browser windows (you have to switch between windows based only on their titles).
I haven't seen any reason to switch off of the default browser. It has a very Chrome-like feel to it, and has outperformed the other browsers I've tried (Opera and Skyfire so far) by a large margin. I feel like Google did a good job importing a close rendering of their fantastic desktop browser onto the mobile market.
Another solution is:
Install ASTRO FileMenager and flag Enable Download from Browser. You can find this option in Preferences
I've tried all of them and so far XScope has been the only one I use. Love it and always getting better.
So let's make a list:
Native
Opera Mini
Skyfire
Xscope
Dolphin
Steel
Is there any other?
I suggest to copy and paste the list and add him to it so in the end we get a whole list.

Doesn't that only apply for the market?
Pretty sure we'll be able to DL anything in the next CM update which will render all the other browsers (aside from the stock one) useless. At least for me.
And I agree with the above poster that the only quirk are the tabs, or lack of. Add those then we are in business.

[Q] How to force Browser to load Full Website

So I'm new to the Samsung Vibrant... and I notice that there is no option in the Web Browser to select mobile websites or Desktop.... is there any way to force the browser to load the Desktop webpage instead of the WAP or mobile...
thanks
no body?
You can try downloading skyfire browser. I believe that has the ability to toggle desktop/mobile.
yea but in other 2.1 devices the option is there in the stock browser.... anyway to add that option...? I do not like third party browsers
I am also curious about this. Is there a way maybe to replace the browser with the one from CM-5.0.8?

It is not in our stock browser, so the only solution would be to add a 3rd party browser. You could always pull a browser from CM5 and push it to your phone.
I bealive there's an addon on dolfin browser

[Q] Possible to make Opera Mini default web browser with 3g only?

1) Im using a centralised bookmark app called "Bookmark Home"
2) When i click a bookmark, i want to use Android Browser with Wi-Fi
3) When i click a bookmark, i want to use Opera Mini with 3g
Is there any way to set this up without rooting?
I basically want a centralised bookmark app that launches my bookmared websites in opera mini with 3g and browser with wifi.

It depends on your Smart TV. If it's a Samsung some have BT for use with an external mouse and keyboard. Those that don't you can connect via USB (or use a wireless keyboard that comes with a USB wireless dongle). You can also use your SGS4's keyboard via the SmartView app from Play. Keyboards only work on Samsung controlled parts of the TV interface. They aren't recognized by a lot of the third party apps accessed via Smart Hub.
When you're setting up WatchOn, here's a tip. Don't go through the device set-up process. Instead, make sure the TV and your Samsung mobile device are on the same network and hit the icon shown below. It allows WatchOn to show content from your TV within the app assuming your Smart TV supports it.
This is all meaningless if your Smart TV isn't made by Samsung.
Thanks my tv is samsung, what im trying to do is... for example, watch youtube, and using the search, use my phone as keyboard instead of using the remote pressing the letters 1 by 1. Not sure if that made any sense... i set up the watchon but it doest have the "keyboard" function i was looking for.
RIght now im doing.. seach it on my phone then sync it to the tv-_-

Whatever you're trying to do on the TV has to be keyboard enabled; most non-Samsung apps don't support outside keyboard access and require you to use the keyboard that's provided within the individual app.
Here are two examples. The Web Browser and Samsung Apps support the Samsung keyboard.
If your phone has Smart View installed and is connected to the TV this pops-up whenever the TV's keyboard pops up.
The YouTube app doesn't support the Samsung keyboard so you have to use whatever's provided in the app.
Thanks for the detail explanation.

WatchON's pretty much useless outside of the TV function if you have a Samsung Smart TV. Smart View allows you to control all the other functions and Smart Hub including allowing you to use your device's keyboard vs. the onscreen keyboard. That's what OP was asking about.
Watchon with Cyanogenmod
is there anyway to get Watchon working and installed on Cyanogenmod? I have the APK, says not installed. help!!!!!
Watchon integrates IR remote with your tv program guide (if your cable tv is supported)
for youtube, I used to use youtube remote... an app by youtube to pair your tv and play the videos.
with recent update, that functionality is built in youtube app on the phone. in the app select "Play on" option and you can add your tv to the list.
No. Won't work on AOSP as is (would require major 'rejigging'/porting to get it to work if at all), requires Samsung framework.

Chrome vs Internet (Samsung Browser)

I just performed a couple of benchmark tests on my newly bought Galaxy S6
Chrome eats dust unfortunately (still me preferred browser for other reasons)
JetStream (browserbench.org)
Chrome: 35951
Internet: 40168
Octane (chromium.github.io)
Chrome: 6335
Internet: 8269
Speedometer (browserbench.org)
Chrome: 14.4
Internet: 19.0
Browsermark (web.basemark.com)
Chrome: 1724
Internet: 2369

I love chrome but even Firefox destroys it on my wife's nexus 5...

Prefer Samsung stock browser over all others as it is the most optimized browser with the device
Chrome isn't fast, efficient or feature-rich, but it still wins over every other browser for me because of the sync feature. I switch phones a lot and not always to Samsung devices, so it has to be Chrome. I also use Chrome on my PC and need to have my tabs and stuff all synced up for the work I do.

The sync is the only feature which currently keeps me using chrome on the PC (already switched back to default on the S6), otherwise the latest Chrome versions are resource hungry and laggy.
Chrome can't be used with a single hand since they made it a point to put the buttons to the farthest places possible. Why put the home button to left-up? Do you have something against people pressing that button?
The default browser however is very user friendly and fast. It's my choice.
chrome got better actually with updates but still not optimized for performance nor for battery life or memory usage.....i still use it for syncing ( bookmarks , passwords etc.. )
I don't use Chrome for one main reason, high battery usage. and I can't use Samsung Browser because I'm on Verizon. I use CM but would like to try another browser out
Javelin is pretty good!

I'm actually blown away by the stock Samsung browser. I was using Dolphin, but the stock browser has built-in adblock, full-page browsing and is faster than any other browser I've used. I honestly couldn't be happier with it.
I use chrome with chromer. Best combo available

I'm on MM btw
Got a question can we sync google with the stock browser ie so I can use all my saved passwords/bookmarks.....?

What keeps me using the stock browser is the fingerprint authentication for passwords for websites. None better.

I think the reason it works so well is that it's dead simple, but everything it has works absolutely perfectly. Full screen, ad-free, blazing fast.
I think I mentioned this in another thread... what keeps me from using Samsung's browser is that it doesn't open new tabs in the background! Completely baffling.

It is, you're right. I actually use Flynx for that, with the Samsung browser as my secondary. It's a perfect combination.
