All Android 4.3 Discussion to be posted in this thread please, all others will be locked.
Let me start off by saying this. The android 4.3 leak the GS4 has in incomplete (it is after all a leak). It does not have any 4.3-specific goodies, it is very similar to 4.2.2. It does have a new camera, though, but the Google Edition 4.2.2's for the S4 and HTC One have this camera as well.
Samsung has also implemented SELinux in a way that it blocks root access (though strangely enough not to ADB).
EDIT: Samsung only seem to block their leaks/beta's while the releases are ok. Do you think they do this to ensure that they can't be rooted, so they can gather our reports on how they are? After all, some root-related activities may or may not affect the performance.
This is what I've concluded by reading around here and there and also based on what Chainfire has said.
Can I add that the 4.3 leaks will be almost impossible to successfully port due to them being compiled for a completely different hardware spec (chipset, gfx, camera etc).
It may be possible to port and get it booting and a couple of functions working but this would be a long and pointless endeavor
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
well im not an very developing advanced user but i think if there is not even the official 4.2 released for the s3 . making and 4.3 based would be a VERY hard work to make it full operative. i think istead of trying this difficult work, there should be someone figuring out how to unlock the internal storage blocking issue (obb folder for example) that you can't copy anything in it without and third party app. sorry for my crappy english hope u get my point.

Yup, by the time we get anything working, official 4.3 would be out. Plus, we wouldn't get much from porting anyway since it barely has anything new yet

If it were up to Samsung, they'd only roll out updates for their current flagships (S4 and future Note 3) but I suspect there must be something else going on for them to have a 4.2.2 build for the S3 rather than for the Note 2 (the latter being the latest Note flagship)

well, yesterday ota for android 4.1.1 for the koran sgs2 a.k.a 'SHW-M250K showed up at sammobile site.
but this ota is useless since its require 4.1.1 in order to use it.
However, this ota teach us that the update will bring Nature UX and that samsung actually statrted to work on the update.
I took some screenshots of the ota to let you see that it's 100% nature UX /touchwiz UX.

SecSettings,SecLauncher2,TopicWall,WeatherWall,Snote and Splanner are 100% nature ux apks and you will find them in every sgs3 rom (stock of course)
they even included the brand new galaxy note 2 water ripple live wallpaper.
And lastly, here the first line from the ota's update script that prove that there was not misspelling on ota name or something and everything is genuine:

Its a different FM radio in the korean version? Lacking NFC is not a problem I think, as the ROM will still work only that the menu's for NFC will generate errors if you try to access them..

I'm sure it will. Maybe it's because of apple's patent war against samsung that's why they will update (soon) the UI of sgs2 to avoid patent infringement. So maybe in a way we might have to thank *cough* apple *cough* in a way.

Do you guys expect the stock JB ROM for the upcoming Nexus flavor of the S4 to be backward compatible for existing I9505? That would enable us to get a pure JB experience on our I9505 on a relatively "official" ROM? Presumably this would be stabler/less buggy (wifi, BT, LTE bugs etc) than existing CM10-based custom ROMs? If so, hopefully this will give our resident devs a more resilient base ROM to develop off of.
Look fwd to hearing your thoughts...
It'll be good to get the stock android experience, like one of those inside a Nexus device.

notice how the new S4 nexus has the exact SAME SPECS as the i9505 has. (same screen, cpu, gpu, 4LTE.. every single Component is the same as i9505)

Indeed. But given that it generally happens to Nexus devices, there is no reason to believe this won't happen to the Nexus edition of the S4 eventually. The binaries for the Nexus 4 were released in March for example and it now has full AOSP support.

Do they? How much of the device is actually Samsung hardware that requires Samsung drivers? It's a Qualcomm device. Other than drivers for the bespoke Samsung features like Air View/Gesture and Smart Scroll etc (which Google won't be using anyway) I can't think of anything Google need off Samsung. This is exactly why making AOKP and CM roms has been so easy for the device. The first guy who created a CM rom did it without even owning one .

Huh I find no issue with 4.2.2, its the best thing yet! We have spent so much time optimzing 4.2.2 that it is so stable and usable. Fast forward to 4.3 which is much newer we have spent much less time on it so for sure it is not as good. However I dont understand which part of either these versions, 4.2.2 or 4.3 is bloated care explaining? Even if Android 4.4 has so called less RAM usage and kernel improvements it would not really matter to us. Take kernel changes for example. We can't just port AOSP code and use it for our devices correct? Remember the time when we only had official 4.0 and 4.1 was released by Google. Everybody wanted Project butter. Due to Sammy not giving us official 4.1 and its source code on time (thank god they actually gave the source code..) we would never have gotten close to full project butter experience which we still lack fully. So if Sammy does not give us what we need then we can use 4.4 without its so called perks like "less RAM usage"
Yeah 4.4 should have lower hardware requirements. However, it doesn't matter because our exynos device still lacks proper drivers. That's worsen by the fact that we currently have no Galaxy S2 devs left working on CM to port new android versions to our device

The bloated versions are Samsung's ones... Pure Android is not bloated

Yes I know that. But our phone has no problem running 4.2.2 or 4.3 that are AOSP based...... So whats the purpose of this thread anyway.... Cus Sammy has no intention of ever updating this phone to a higher version...

Yeah 4.4 should have lower hardware requirements. However, it doesn't matter because our exynos device still lacks proper drivers. That's worsen by the fact that we currently have no Galaxy S2 devs left working on CM to port new android versions to our device

Untill now, the S2 is running is able to run 4.3.1 and 100% it will able to run 4.4
Samsung adds a lot of bloatware to their official roms which make the device slow
that's why I never use stock rom
Yea but what about cool features like multi window smart functions and motion ?
If this doesn't mean smth for you .... what about drivers? 4.2/4.3 have a lot of glitches with graphics and cuz samsung dont release exynos source code our beloved s2 will die one day in a near future
