How Can I Tell If My Nexus 10 Is Fully Stock? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like the title says. I bought a used Nexus 10 and wanted to make sure that it was stock in case of updates. Guy I bought it from says it was returned to stock, but I would like to check for myself. How would I go about doing this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Go to about phone and check android version. Also check kernel and make sure they're stock. Also download boot locker and lock your bootloader. Also try booting into recovery and see if its the stock (hold power and volume up and down while turning on.)

Booted into recovery and all appears to be stock. Says boot loader is locked and when I tried to run recovery it went to the little Android guy with a red triangle with an exclamation point on it. So I think I'm good.
Does that sound about right? Should it for anything in recovery if I'm not rooted and the boot loader is locked?

[Q] no access to stock recovery

Hi guys,
I recently bought an Ideos X5 that was 2 months in use and it seems like I can't boot into stock recovery with it.
My device is definitely not rooted (Checked it with the app RootChecker). When I got it, I did a factory reset right after in stock recovery. I was able do get there with VOL+, HomeButton and Power. Neither this nor VOL+/VOL- and Power works now. I do not just reboot but boot when the phone is turned off. Android-Version is 2.3.5, Kernel 2.6.35.7, Build-Number ...B522... All I did so far was the factory reset.
Sorry I'm still not used to all this stuff although I read a lot, but seems like the more I read the more I get confused. Maybe it's totally easy but I tried a lot of things and none worked
Thanks a lot.
Try first holding down vol+ then power and then hold both of them until it either gets into recovery or its fully booted, depending if it works or not.

Should locked bootloader cause this? Because 522 has a locked bootloader. Atleast try to unlock the bootloader. There was a tutorial about this, search the forum

I already found this tutorial,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457490
but the phone has to be rooted to do that or you have to get to stock recovery, so it didn't work obv.
I tried VOL+/Power, didn't work as well.
Thanks though. Any more ideas?

By did not work, do you mean it booted Android instead? If you don't want to root your device, you should reflash the firmware, but back up your things first.
Yes it booted normally. Maybe I'm gonna do that... Weird thing is that I did nothing but a factory reset and 3 or 4 apps like games and whatsapp.
aaaahhhh I got it. Had to untick "fast boot" in settings. Didn't really know that this is activated... anyway, thanks.

[Q] Nexus 7 wont boot

I was playing a game on my nexus 7, it froze then when rebooted it it just got stuck on google screen. Read a bunch of stuff, went into recovery and tried to recover, it would say erasing but never go any further, just sits there. got toolkit tried to restore factory with that, now when it boots I still just get google screen but I get the menu in corner for start/boot/recover/power off. still never boots, when I try to run recovery now it doesnt even go to erasing. Ive read everything I can find to restore it, got 2 toolkits, unfortunatly everything tells me to put it in debug mode, which is funny cause if I could boot up and go into settings to turn on bebug mode then I wouldnt be having these problems... Can someone please help, Im good with computers but dont know much of tablets. I did no messing with tablet besides downloading updates when they came out.

My guess is no, I never messed with any of my system stuff. Everything was factory except for the updates it had me do as they came out.
How long you let it sit in recovery erasing before you rebooted it? Is there an option in boot loader or recovery for a factory reset? Beings you're not rooted I doubt those one click tool kits will work for you.

It sat in erasing for 1 hour and didnt do anything. I was doing factory reset in recovery.
As long as the boot loader starts you can recover your Nexus. Check this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796
If he can't unlock the bootloader then there's not a whole lot he can do. Run "fastboot getvar all" while in bootloader and tell us what it says please. If adb is seeing your phone in recovery, then run an adb shell and do "ls -l /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/" please.
Sorry I can't help further but I just got this and don't know much. I am glad others came in to give you more help.

Just sayin, I think you guys need to pull the back cover and disconnect the battery for at least one hour.
I am really new at this but it helped me save mine twice. I think?
After you plug the battery back in try fast boot.

Custom Recovery Gone?

I just sideloaded the 4.2.2 update and now my recovery mode shows the red triangle error. I can still boot into Android fine and what have you, but TWRP is gone. I tried to factory rest the device in the error screen, but that didn't fix it. Again I can still boot fine, but TWRP is replaced with the red triangle. Any ideas how to fix it? Thanks!

Assuming you're rooted...? Download and install goomanager from the Play store. Open it and tap the menu button (three dots at upper right) and select Install Open Recovery script. It will prompt for confirmation and then download and install TWRP for you.

Use fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-x.x.x.x-manta.img to get TWRP back?
Wow I completely forgot about this. Exams happened and then I forgot to reply. I was a moron and was trying to flash the Toshiba Thrive TWRP(2.4.1.3) not reading that it was for the Thrive. Flashed 2.4.1.0 manta and it took no problem. Thanks anyhow! I'm going to leave this topic in case anyone else is as dumb as I am(I sure hope not ) so they don't freak out over TWRP disappearing.

Updating with unlocked bootloader

Hello im on stock 4.2.2 and im rooted with an unlocked bootloader. Will i have to relock it once the new 5.0 klp update comes out to get it or will it still work fine? I know theres still a while until the update but id like to be prepared
Depends, if you want the KLP version from google, you'll need to go back to stock and lock the bootloader.
However, there's a 99.99999999% chance someone here at XDA will have a KLP rom before google officially releases one for our N10s.
Ok thanks but can i keep it rooted or do i need to unroot aswell?
Sent from my Xperia Play (r800x)
OK so I heard some rumors about a jellybean update to 4.3 soon. I really don't want to lose all my data by flashing a stock image once it comes out. Is there a way to relock the boot loader without losing data? And if not is there a way to backup all my data and restore it afterwards. I tried using wugs toolkit to do this but the problem is it only backs up the main user and not the secondary ones. Any suggestions would be appreciated thank you.
Sent from my Xperia Play (r800x)
I believe unlocking/locking the boot loader will in fact wipe all data. So you'd have to manually handle the backup/restore if you don't want to lose the data.
I'd try something like TB to backup and restore. I usually start from scratch again as I've read restoring app data can cause issue under certain circumstances. YMMV...

I'm not sure so far all I've heard is that you have to lock the bootloader first... And I'd rather not take the risk. Anyway that app mentioned earlier locks and unlocks your boot loader with a click so its great

hmm, from reading that apps description it gives me the impression a bootloader could be locked again w/out wiping - its just then when you would want to re-unlock that it would re-wipe.
right now Im unlocked but stock everything else. I think I will see what happens just trying the upgrade w/out relocking (again because Im pretty sure that's the same as the .2 I just did.)
if anyone can confirm any of this it would be welcomed

To get any Google OTA you do not need to re-lock the bootloader. You might need to flash the stock recovery prior to install the OTA.
At least this is what I did. Of course, to be safe I installed "Bootunlocker", "Voodo OTA Rootkeeper", and "SuperSU".
SuperSU gives permission to keep your phone root when you flash stock recovery.
After you re-install a custom recovery you need, prior to reboot, to wipe "Dalvik-Cache".
The long wait can start
@gunner1937 OK thanks. But where can I get stock recovery? Also I already have super su installed so do I need to do anything before flashing stock recovery or I just need to have supersu installed and then flash to keep root? Will flashing stock recovery wipe data? And are there any other steps I need to take. Please explain thanks

To get stock recovery go to https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images.
Download the factory image for Nexus 10 "mantaray".
Extract the files using, preferably,7-zip.
In the extract files select the file with extension.tar. Unzip with 7-zip.
Open file " mantaray-jdq39". Click on file "image-mantaray-jdq39.zip: this is where you will find all the img files including "recovery.img"

Yup got the update an hour ago, but I'm bummed that I lost my big font settings (was previously rooted), now I gotta wait til 4.4 gets a root, even with "large" font settings in both display and accessability, it's too small.
Just got the update as well, disappointed with the camera still.

Ouch, had you done any upgrading or downgrading or flashing in the past? Do you get anything when you plug it into a PC, if you do it can likely be restored.
Mine updated. Happy to finally get the smart dialer - something HTC has had since Froyo. Not a great fan of the all white notification icons, but I'll get used to it.

What did you do to flash back to 4.2.2? That raises a red flag for me as the upgrade to 4.4.2 would have incremented the bootloader version and from what I can determine you can only safely downgrade to 4.4 (Yes I know there is no 4.4 for Rogers)
I would say it is a brick for certain at the moment, but there is a chance you can recover it, check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2629057

First I would uninstall xposed or anything like that. Then, I'm assuming you have an unlocked bootloader, so you would need to flash the the 4.2.2 (I assume that is what you are on?) recovery. I'm not sure if having root will do anything. If so, then you need to reflash the stock kernel and then clear the cache and you should be back to stock. Alternatively I think you can also use a tool kit.
