For me games have been laggier since 253. Don't know if it's to do with the colour changes or something but 434 was by far the best performing rom. Maybe that's one reason why Sony mobile UK haven't gone past that rom yet.
I was hoping that 4.2 would address this problem but sadly it's still there

If u wipe the cache and dalvik cache after flashing 4.2.2,it works very smooth after it reboots and we need to reboot it atleast 3 times..u can see the difference, graphics in games are really smooth, phone doesn't heat up as much as before and the battery life is epic..standby time has increased a lot too and if u wanna upgrade to 4.2.2,its better to download the whole thing again from the sources you're familiar with ..I have downloaded .423 three times from 3 different sources and only one was fluidic..others were a little laggy at first but became really smooth after I cleared the caches and rebooted..hope this helps u..cheers

Thanks man..and that is just the standby time..the battery still holds on pretty good for games and stuff..if u play many games like I do,then you'll notice that the battery lasts a bit longer on 4.2.2 than the previous versions and the phone doesn't heat up to alarming levels now..I guess they tweaked the overheat control BUT during extreme heating cases,if you're playing a game,it tends to become laggy sometimes maybe due to underclocking..overall a very nice update..

No, because it won't do anything.
Dalvik cache was wiped when I upgraded with the PCC anyway. That is why the "Android is upgrading" message is displayed on first boot as the Dalvik cache is being rebuilt.
As the Dalvik cache was wiped, I assume the cache was as well (it should have been as part of a proper upgrade process anyway) . Even if not, wiping cache has never ever fixed any problem I've had when people have suggested it.
I will live with it anyway, at least until the UK generic software is released or a patch, whichever is first

Well...then everything seemed smoother on my xz after 3-4 reboots that I did after wiping all the caches..aren't they interrelated?

Actually, after I posted I decided to clear the cache through the settings menu on the phone as I don't have a custom recovery installed (settings-storage-select cache and confirm delete).
It was quite large (768MB).
I didn't even reboot after doing it and the phone does seem much snappier than it was.

I tried going back to 4.1.2 from 4.2.2 due to bluetooth not working with my car on 4.2.2, but after reflashing it just sat in a reboot loop. How did you downgrade to 4.1.2?

Via flashtool! Just did the normal steps like u should, tick the wipe "cache, dalvik & system" selected ftf DE. 253 ,start it, let flashtool did it's job and voila that's it after that, set it up,3-4x reboot for the system to set in and u redy to go
Sent from my C6603

Ooou, and one other important thing not to forget mention! U must select "usb debugging on"! Wery, wery important! To do so on 4.2.2 go to settings, scroll bottom down, about phone and tick few time "build number"till u see text "you are not a developer" that is going to let u have developer options back again hope this will help u

Lol!! It says "you are NOW a developer".. And usb debugging must be on for flashtool to detect that our device is rooted so that it could run some scripts..

Do I need to unlock my bootloader to use autoroot?
How I wish this update would be done via OTA..
main reason for me is I don't want to lose root and to I don't want to flash also because restoring 14gb+ of data will be a lot of work for me.. I'm thinking not to use titanium backup instead I will just copy all my sd card files to my PC as a backup file.. But I fear that if i return all my files back to sd card after update some apps/games might not work properly.
autoroot would be a great idea though, but I don't trust the guy who said it.. I think felix is just boosting his post count by lurking around this forum, giving incomplete details, always saying "there is already thread about that", and other non sense post just to boost his post count.. No pun intended felix..
I think many/most people with a locked bootloader are waiting for the ota (myself included). The ota for the arc xloud update came a while after it arrived on Pc Companion/SEUS so i guess it just a waiting game now for when it arrives.

Im not sure myself since i also have the play but i think it was a few weeks. I just noticed a similar discussion on the arc forum (about if they will loose root) and a few weeks later people were getting the update over ota. But like the last update not every country has had the ota update yet only some.
OTA update 4.0.A.2.368 available + remain rooted (arc)
got the update via OTA today! (Philippines)
and i managed to preserve root!
Yey!

Thats how i did it anyway, you dont need unlocked B00TLoader to use FlashTooL so maybe try that?It may not work though and pretty risky too
I read somewhere you don't need unlocked bootloader to use flashtool but if you try to flash custom kernel via flashtool you need an unlocked bootloader....
I tried ota (uk generic) today but after download I get 'could not install software' error.

[Q] paranoid note user wanting to install paranoid android

if you read my last threads you will know i mashed my other note to pieces....
on my desire i would flash roms 3 each week without messing the phone up, so after messing up my note through formatting through cwm while on ics i am a little/lot scared about doing it again..
so i want a little help if you guys would be so kind
i dont have the new phone with me right now, but this time i am going to learn how NOT to brake the phone before i start playing with it.
so could you please walk me through this, explain to me as you would explain to a child LOL
so as i understand it, i need to keep to gingerbread then root it, go into recovery and flash the rom from there? do i use the normal phone recovery to do this or do i have to install cwm?
i am a little worried about using cwm again tbh, or can i use mobile odin?
i want to know the easiest way, the most fool proof....
damn i was never this worried with my desire.
your probably thinking "if you are so scared then why bother" right? its just the phone is so damn laggy, even compared to my desire which was built by cave men
cheers for the help guys, asuming i get some ofcourse :fingers-crossed:
Start from a gingerbread rom, then fully root it and install clockworkmod, next boot into recovery(volume up+power+home button together). First flash paranoid android rom then flash gapps, lastly wipe data, cache partition and dalvik cache. Reboot and enjoy

Yes, you can flash from one of the supposedly known safe ics kernels to speed the process up BUT if you want to be 100% safe in flashing to any cm9, start with a gingerbread rom.

I also just received my note from samsung after bricking it with CWM. I am so afraid I might brick it again trying to install paranoid android since I have to wait nearly a month to have my phone back in case anything happen.
Just one question, as long as I'm on paranoid android, can I just format or factory reset my phone through settings or recovery or cwm safely? Thanks a lot.

If you want to install paranoid, its cm based which means no touchwizz apps will work on it as they need the touchwizz framework. That being said, s pen still works fine and there are plenty of alternatives to the s apps (papyrus, memo etc). Also I've read that one of the devs is working on getting the s apps onto cm9 somehow, but not sure who or how its going. Also the cm9 kernel included for the rom is safe from the superbrick bug as its has the cap wlerase command disabled.
PA has a slightly different installation to other roms. I would highly recommend first installing stock rootable gb, root it and install cwm. Once that's in place perform factory reset.
Then download paranoid and g apps and copy them to external SD card.
Then FROM CWM recovery, you flash pa first by "installing zip from SD card", then do the same for g apps straight afterwards.
If you have any fc's or issues, enter back into cwm recovery and wipe cache and dalvik.
Boom, ready to go for full on paranoia
Its a truly great rom, very customisable and as ics should be.

The safe kernel is included in the pa rom, cm9 kernel. So long as you flash it from cwm in gb you're fine it installs it automatically.
Think mobile Odin is only a paid for app... well worth it though. Check the forum, chainfire usually releases free versions to xda community.

Indeed mobile Odin is much safer in this regards, it can't flash any sensitive partition. So even if you flash wrong way it's just soft brick. Two dangerous thing to flash are pit and bootloader, that mobile Odin never touch.

Might also want to update your Odin to 3.07. I don't think it's the reason for the failing but it doesn't hurt.
I also believe it's a bootloader problem.
im using the jamaican dmc1 rom since yesterday.. i flashed the one i got from the android development thread.. the thread that hosts odexed and deodexed stock rooted firmwares..
the jamaican firmware is branded.. digicel if i remember correctly.. though its branded, i didnt notice any carrier apps installed.. just the carrier boot animation.. so i just installed the stock boot animation and now i have an unbranded rom..

I'd installed Jamaican DMC1 from prerooted stock firmwares thread too, after that I've installed polish XEO CSC and the stock boot animations too , and everything works fine. It seems that Wi-Fi problem is fixed now, but I need more time to find it out.

+1 to this. Can't upload cause bootloader unlocked but if i relock it I cant turn on my phone and dont know why
Did you install a recovery? I've seen that happen with TWRP installed, I suppose it needs to be updated to .253
+1 I have exactly the same issue. You can not even dismiss the notification op the OTA update. I was on 434 and rooted. Flashed via CWM the 253.
Try uninstalling or freezing the Update Centre app.
Okay Force Stop, Clear Data does not work once the Update Center restarts the notification is back. Had to freeze the application for now until fix can be found.

If you mean you've froze or uninstalled it and still getting the notification then try freezing the Update Service.

im confused are you legit about a new update? why would that cause my problem
I also have the same problem. Flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279661 and still get the OTA update notification since two days ago. I have also attempted OTA but it fails during update.
I had the same problem, froze it with Titanium Backup and that solved it

Also freezed it now with Titanium Backup Pro, but I do not think that this is an optimal solution.
I too had to freeze it with Titanium backup. Problem solved lol

You must flash back stock kernel using Flash Tools before can locked back bootloader.
Locked bootloader don't work with any 3rd party Kernel if you had flash before, example DooMLoRD kernel or the DooMLoRD recovery which include it own kernel as well.

Flash back stock kernel of .253 ROM (from any .253 ROM FTF) via Flash Tools will prevent the un-stop mentioning of new firmware available. Remember only flash the Kernel, not the whole ROM by untick Data, Cache, Appslog, Kernel, and Fota at Flash Tools.
