Due to loads of questions how to upgrade to the latest firmware and keep root and place recovery
First step
Find your 10.3.A.0.423 ROM and download it
Belgium
France
Germany
Greece
Greece unbranded
Hongkong
Spain
Taiwan
Ukraine
Use this tutorial to flash the ROM into your Phone.
Be sure you download these versions below and nothing else to get a quick rooted and recovered Phone
[XZDualRecovery][v2.5 RELEASE]
[Z][ROOT] DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit (v15) {perf_event exploit}[20130624]
If you have flashed your Phone with the latest ROM, and you lost Root on the Phone, first use the toolkit from Doomlord This will install SuperSU on your Phone.
Just let the program do its job.
If you wanna add recovery mode on your Phone, use [XZDualRecovery][v2.5 RELEASE] cwm 6.0.3.2 & twrp 2.5.0.0 [locked bootloader] from [NUT]
In his map you see two files : Superuser and SuperSU, use the SuperSU to let the tool create the recovery on your cellphone.
I want to thank both develepors for making these tools and making rooting and recovery so easy
For me this method doesn't work, I'm on the Generic NL but when I install recovery it only works at first boot (It goes to CWM). Then I reboot the phone to system (as pointed out in the installation instructions).
But from here it seems recovery is disabled...I can push volume up or down but it won't go into any recovery anymore.... Only way to get it working again is by installing it over and over...but I never get a second boot in recovery. Any ideas?

Make sure that you're installing the 2.5 beta version.
If you already did, there was a problem that has recently been fixed by [NUT], so download the fixed version and try again.

Sigh.
Dear God, will the Z1 never have a normal/easy rooting method like it did on 4.2.2 with vRoot? I'm an amateur at best. I don't want to downgrade (which I heard could break the IMEI or something), or unlock my bootloader (which seems like an awful lot of trouble). Someone please tell me it's possible... I've been walking around with a non rooted phone longer than I'd like. My S3 and note 10.1 were a breeze to root. I don't even remember having any trouble rooting them... Why is it so hard to root the Z1!?!?

I think IMEI lose only occurs on Samsung Devices. Off course its possible on most other phones but it's far less unlikely that it will occur on the Xperia Z1.
By the way if you downgraded to 4.2.2 you would temporarily lose cellular use on your phone, you would need to update the baseband to the one that is packed with the latest update. But even that won't ruin your IMEI, just temporarily disable it.

use this ftf to downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48555400&postcount=3 to .534. You won't "loose" Your IMEI.
Than root, install recovery and upgrade to .136.

Yep.
You can add another step to this. If you have a backup in TWRP.
After flashing via Flashtool reboot to system. After system boot reboot to recovery and flash the data partition backup (_only_). Then wipe Dalvik. You will end up with all Your apps+data
(This tip is from the previous version update. Again, thanks to [NUT] - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572988 :good

To tell you the truth: I don't know.
What I would do is:
1. Make TWRP backup.
2. Wipe everything.
3. Flash the zip.
4. Power off.
5. Flash the FTF via Flashtool.
6. Boot into system. After boot reboot to recovery.
7. Restore DATA partition ONLY. Wipe Dalvik.
8. Boot into system.
After that you end up with a clean install with all your apps+data.
HTH.

Hi
Here is flasable zip file wich install latest ROM 23.0.1.A.4.30 which this time is customized UK, latest stable SuperSu v2.37 and latest beta Dualrecovery .154 for Tablet Z2 with read/write acces to system.
This is tested and works just fine though make nandroid backup before flashing.
Install it by flashing whole zip file with custom recovery. Wipes aren´t necessary but good practise.

Just wanted to add that I had to manually install the dual recovery. Installed fine but thought I'd mention it.

So you have working custom recovery? What exactly do you mean that you lost your root? Partial root or something else? If you have working custom recovery why not just flash latest SuperSu from here:
http://download.chainfire.eu/636/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.37.zip
And then about encrytpion keys. Do you mean that you have encrypted your device or perhaps DRM keys? Flashing prerooted firmware have no effects to your device DRM keys if you mean that.
Sooty to be a pita (pain in the ...)

I had root and lost it in the ota... superuser says such not installed... I just went in and tried recovery and it did not come up, so I am assuming it flashed me back to stock in more ways then one... I am now looking at your zip to get root back if I can get dual recovery back on the tablet.

You are welcome.
You need Flashtool and correctly installed drivers for it and rootable firmware in ftf format. If I remember correctly latest was 17.1.2.A.0.314. If you want to I believe you can use this one: https://mega.co.nz/#!kcxxjaLA!itErjRi2fYPPswal-c7XasF_lAvPKyY4GwEzY3xgHZ0 It is for SGP511 but memory size is only difference between devices. use the recovery from nordic to flash the rooted stock firmware.

Thank you. Short answer is that as long you have root access you can install prerooted firmwares so basically same way you do with this prerooted firmware. Credits how to make prerooted firmwares are in op. Some point there is no method to root newer firmwares without unlocking your bootloader so I did that too but because backed up TA partition I´m back with rooted device and locked bootloader.

Do I need to unlock bootloader to flash this?
I have Middle East phone. I want to have Arabic input language in my keyboard, Can I use this or should I wait for the official release to my region?

No you do NOT have to unlock your bootloader (because it is not a custom ROM) but you can only flash it if you already have an open recovery (TWRP, Philz Touch Recovery etc.)
btw you can install any input language on android

Yes I'm already rooted on 4.4.2 and I've TWRP recovery.
Should I flash it directly using recovery? I don't have a SD card. Can I put it on Internal memory or external USB flash memory and install it?
I'm sorry I'm kinda a beginner. I know a lot about iOS but I'm new to Android.
Would this work for any Z2 in all regions? I brought my Z2 from expansys and apparently mine is based in Germany by Vodafone.
I have a TWRP backup if something goes wrong but I like to know if there will be any other complications that my 4.4.4 stock backup can't fix. Thanks in advance.

You just have to ensure that your phone is D6503, not D6502.
And as far as I know, recovery isn't working on Lollipop yet. So once you flash this, you won't be able to easily restore your KitKat backup, unless you downgrade to KitKat ROM and go through the process of rooting and installing recovery.
would you be so kind to detail what you did in order to achieve dual recovery? did you use prf creator?
I think it only shows that the NDR Utils app works, but you can't enter or reboot into the actual Recovery yet.

Can you please specify what the issue is? Don't have time to look it up; I've skimmed through the thread and the general response is "it doesn't work right now". Like how? It won't boot up when you try to go into recovery?

Fyi if you want to get back to 4.4 and you have an unlocked bootloader all you need to do is flash the 4.4 boot.img (with recovery), boot into recovery and restore your backup.
Obviously the phone will bootloop if you try and boot it.
Has anyone else tried using Link2SD with this firmware (I'm talking about the application not the built-in feature in the OS) and encountered the following error: "Mount script error Mount script cannot be created. mount: Operation not permitted". I've recreated the second partition of the SD card and have made sure that Link2SD has the appropriate rights in the SuperSU. The issue still persists. Had no similar problems with Link2SD in KitKat.

TBH if you don't have time to look it up, you probably haven't got time to fix it when **** happens, so take a chill pill and wait until you have got time or it all gets sorted.

Required:
- Flashtool in the latest version from: http://flashtool.net
- DualRecovery by NUT as installer.zip: http://nut.xperia-files.com (Download the correct one for your device and at least version 2.8.7+!)
- Root on 23.0.F.1.74 (Download) for example with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/giefroot-rooting-tool-cve-2014-4322-t3011598
Featurelist:
- SuperSU integrated
- DualRecovery by NUT integrated (2.8.7)
Can be used on locked and unlocked bootloader.
Firmware File:
- D6633_23.1.1.E.0.1_Customized-MEA.flashable.zip
The Flashable.zip i've created with the mighty tool PRFCreator by zxz0O0.
Installation/Update (short) guide:
0. Downgrade to the firmware 23.0.F.1.74 and root it (with giefroot)
0.1. Install the LockedDualRecovery by NUT with the installer.zip (install.bat)
1. Put the downloaded update file (ROM.zip) on your device. I recommend you to put it directly on the device.
2. Boot into the recovery (While rebooting -> when the info LED flashs -> press shortly the VOL button for the Recovery you prefer)
(On Recovery you may create a twrp/cwm backup of your device if you get any issues on updating process!)
3. Flash the ROM update file (.zip) with "install zip".
4. Wipe cache and dalvik cache (perhaps under advanced).
5. Reboot to system.
You may have to wait some minutes on the first boot because of initializing system for first time (optimizing apps etc.).
Special Thanks to:
[NUT] (DualRecovery and his efforts!)
zxz0O0 (giefroot rooting tool, PRFCreator and his efforts!)

Thank you @waleedsq81 for providing this firmware!
But please advice me.... I'm already on rooted 23.0.F.1.74 with LOCKED bootloader :good: and I want to flash the 5.0.2 lollipop firmware you're providing or a supposedly 'prerooted' russian customized version I downloaded yesterday, but my question is that if I had to upgrade to .96 kitkat firmware prior to flash this one or can I flash it directly from the .74 one?? ............ and secondly: do you know if by installing your firmware (or the russian one) will the flashing operation open or unlock the bootleader inadvertently?? (I don't want to, of course).
Thank you in advance, cheers :fingers-crossed:

yes you can flash it directly from the .74
& this process will not open bootloader Because the official firmware does not need to open bootloader

I try to get into recovery using the hardware button but seems not possible.
Booting into recovery using NDR Utils is fine though.
What I do > Power off phone > Power on > Wait until Green led lights up > Press repeatedly volume down button
Nothing happens even if I repeat the process and press volume up instead of volume down button.
What seems the problem ?

Thank you very much @waleedsq81 you're the man!.... and I can safely confirm to all: if anyone is already on rooted kitkat .74 firmware, you can simply and straight go ahead and flash via recovery this pre-rooted MEA firmware... root is maintained as well as the bootloader locked in this latest lollipop build, just follow to the letter the given instructions.
Is it possible to upgrade from .96 to save the time going back to .74? I am already rooted just need to add recovery.

working smooth
Great firmware update and working nicely. I didn't do a clean wipe, just cleaned the cach and dalvik. I have been using it regularly and no problems. Camera is working, but I haven't tested other camera functions. All in all this is great.
Hey all. I have a z3 d6603 5.0.2 version 726. Ia there a way to get root access without unlocking bootloader? Im new to this so any help would be appreicated.
Thanks

As per first post yes. If you have no root, flash back too stock using .74 firmware which can be rooted.
