Ok, here you go - Read everything below first, before you do any of this please.
The usual "I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your phone" statement applies.
First, make sure you flash either the .27 or .33 radio. I chose .27 as it is the most stable for me in my area. You can find the radios here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087227&page=1
Once you have flashed the radio, then flash the audio fix (using the old LTE radios on stock 4.2.2 kills the in-call audio - this file will fix it, just flash in recovery).
You also need to flash the build.prop fix. Both the audio fix and build.prop fix flashable zips are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327199&page=3
Once you have flashed both of those, you're going to need to replace your apns-config.xml file - I have attached the file to use so that you don't have to do the edits (just unzip the file first). In root explorer or ES file explorer (both work fine) navigate to /system/etc and rename the existing apns-config.xml file to apns-config.xml.bak. Then paste the file I attached to this post in the same folder (/system/etc) and rename it to apns-config.xml. Make sure you set the permissions to rw-r--r--
Now comes the crappy part. You have to factory reset your phone. But the good news is, once you do, you have permanent LTE on rooted stock 4.2.2. Yep it's that simple.
Please keep in mind, if you have already modded your build.prop in previous attempts, it's important to delete it and restore your .bak build.prop file if you want to use the flashable zip I linked you to. The flashable zip won't check to see if the mods are already in there, it will just write them in, thus possibly duplicating entries.
If you're build.prop already has these lines added:
telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
ro.telephony.default_network=9
ro.ril.def.preferred.network=9
And this line removed:
telephony.lteOnCDMADevice=0
then you don't need to flash the build.prop zip.
Let me know if you have any questions.
I just realized I didn't change the name of the apns file I attached, so you don't need to rename my attachment. Just rename the existing apns file before pasting.

I did everything as stated it worked once I rebooted it went back to h+ waited 20 min to 4 g showed up
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
I should have mentioned, once you factory reset, you cannot ever go into the apn settings or the #*#*4636*#*# phone menu or it breaks it
Try doing it again and remember to factory reset right after you change the apns file. Before you factory reset go into the #*#*4636*#*# phone menu and set it to LTE/GSM/CDMA, then wait for 4G to show active then FDR
Thanks

Can someone with a stock NS4G use root explorer to zip '/system' and post it here, (you don't have to be rooted to do this).
To do that open root explorer, long press system and select zip this folder, the finished zip file will be system.zip in /sdcatd/speedsoftware/zip.
I can mirror after that so you don't have to host the file.
That would help us see the differences from the GSM nexus. I will also use it to make a zip for people who want to go back to stock after messing up or something, and make a deodexed version so people can theme there NS4G.

Thanks for the link, that was helpful!
How i do it..
you must have root .
Copy the system ui.apk out and save it to your desktop ( do not move it)
open the file in 7 zip... browse to the folder that has the .png files you want to change.. (DO NOT UNZIP OR EXTRACT)
Copy the dpi folder your making changes to the .png files within.. to a new folder .
Edit the .png files.. (you can also edit xml. notepad++ (use caution..)
I use photo shop and paint shop pro to edit the files..
Open the original system ui file up.. browse back to the directory where the folder you copied out is at .. DO NOT UNZIP OR EXTRACT
PAST THE Edited file back into the zip...
push it back to your tablet .
using file manager put it back in the system/app folder where you found it..
YOUR TABLET WILL CRASH WHEN YOU SAVE IT HERE ( THIS IS EXPECTED ..) REBOOT WITH HOLDING THE POWER BUTTON..
YOUR tablet will reboot showing the changes you have made. If you mess up you can adb push the unmodified system ui back and reboot .
This is a very dirty quick how to hope its understandable..
good luck
Thanks for that but I did it using metamorph like the link says.

Nandroid is the backup you make through recovery
Okay. Well i have searched around several times and i can't seem to fine anything that on resizing CMs nav bar.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
You can't change it from within CM, but you can flash different mods in recovery (like the one posted above) to change it manually.
Ill be honest if You dont know what a nandroid is you may want to take some time and do some basic research before you end up bricking your phone. Messing with the OS of a device is NOT fool proof. Things can go wrong and then you are stuck with a non working device that you cant return.
Ok just learned what nandroid is and so i guess the next step is to nandroid backup my phone and then flash the mod from the link right?

Anyways this is basically what you have to do(may require some other searching):
-navigate to system/framework and copy the framework-res.apk to your computer
-decompile framework-res.apk
-in the decompiled folder navigate to /res/values/ and open the file named dimens.xml in a text editor
-edit the lines that I posted above to your liking
-recompile framework-res.apk and push it back to the phone. Also make sure the permissions are set to rw-r-r

-Make a nandroid backup just in case
-Download an root file manager. I would recommend root explorer (paid), but there are other free ones like es file explorer.
-Copy the framework-res.apk from your computer to your phone. (just use the usb cable and transfer it over using MTP)
-Open the root file manager and copy the framework-res.apk from where you put it
-Navigate to system/framework and rename the existing framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.bak
-Paste the new framework-res.apk
-Long press the new framework-res.apk and go to permissions and change them to rw-r-r
-reboot
yep I do that but as soon as I get done renaming framework.apk.bak the phone restarts and goes into boot loop.
I reflash CM10.1 and nandroid backup and everything is fine again. then I tryed just replacing framework but same thing happens.
ohh and mbucks911 the reason why I dont use AOKP is becasue my battery life with AOKP is terrible it causes my phone to run at around 38c which is warm enough to make my hands sweat and my battery drains 10% for every 10mins my screen is on. when I use CM my phone barely gets over 30c and operates around 27c for every and 10% of my battery thats almost 2 hours of sot thats why i am trying to stick with CM.

Try using adb to push it.
Code:
adb remount
adb push \path\to\framework-res.apk /system/framework/
adb reboot
Alright Wtf did I do...I've gone stupid so forgive me.
Tried to rename systemui. Apk to apk.bak and it fc'd systemui of course. Restored my system nandroid backup. Tried to move new systemui into app before renaming old systemui. It overwrote the old one, but I still have a backup of the original. So it rebooted again, but I had the new ui. Everything was fine but the lag was intense, so I cleared cache dalvik and fixed permissions. Reboot again, now when I boot up it takes 5 minutes to load the clock and grant su permissions, then I get repeated toast of fauxclock and fauxsound being granted su probably ten times each.
I restored the original systemui again and re flashed Faux's kernel but no joy.

I want to know how I borked it. The instructions clearly state to first rename the existing systemui.apk to systemui.apk.bak. I did that, and I knew it would happen but I couldn't stop myself, it started fc'ing. So what did I miss.

I don't think you can exchange or modify the systemui.apk without using ADB to "stop" the phone first. I'm not an ADB specialist but I think there is some information about it in the P-Rom thread in the Development section. Of course, I might be wrong about this.
Next time copy systemui.apk and the systemui.odex (if you are odexed) to your sd card then rename the copies to bak and then copy over thr new one.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
The problem is renaming to bak causes immediate fc's, so there's no time to copy the new one over. Can you rename a file through adb? That's only way I could see this working.

Hmm.. I'm stock rooted except for the kernel. Screwing with systemui in any manner makes my phone angry. I just overwrote my original systemui I made a backup of before trying the new one and it went through and then auto reboot. My wifi is still a little funky. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and Odin to stock/factory reset tomorrow morning after I take the kid to school.
Will Odin clear my recovery or kernel or is that untouched during the process. If om gonna go through with it I might as well go full tilt boogie.
Thanks for the help.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Odin will not wipe, you would need to odin and then do a factory reset from within the os.
Is your firmware and basebsnd matching? Maybe the systemui file is for the mdl version?
Have you done the ota?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Systemui was for MDL which is what I'm on. I might as well start totally fresh if I'm gonna do it. Odin to stock and reset to clear everything I've done to the phone and start like I took it out of the box.
Edit: alright whatever... Copied over the new systemui phone auto rebooted but everything is fine so far. Even wifi. What an f'n debacle. Never had so much trouble with a simple mod. Thanks for the help homie.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Whenever changing out system files, it's preferable to use adb shell. Before touching the files, always use the command "stop". This shuts down android, but you still retain the adb shell. It's the perfect opportunity to mess with files like SystemUI or Framework-res.
Also, don't forget to delete applicable .odex files if you're screwing with system apk's.
See that's another point I become lost. I can't delete the odex file because I'm odexed. At least AFAIK. the ui I downloaded was for odexed roms.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Can someone please clarify? I should not delete odex files on an odexed rom, right? I'm going to Google adb commands to learn more about it.

sorry, im not trying to be a ****; i had an Atrix 4G too, and that was weird compared to WinMo5/6/6.1 stuff back in the days. I really dont know jack about Android anymore; i did with older WinMo HTC devices, and enough to comfortably root, SIM unlock, and flash CM7 on my Atrix 4G and keep the fingerprint scanner working 100%.
However i do know that you should take care switching from deodexed to odexed, and thoroughly read up before you try, and especially post a question before you goof it up. Not trying to be hard on you; i soft bricked many a device; THAT is what i was referring to, really, when i posted. That ive been there, done that, and at least you are being honest about it. Not trying to be a **** or get down on you. I read a lot, and PM for clarification or specialized questions/instructions.
Mistakes are mistakes; we all make them, and these are crazy complicated devices; they are bound to happen. Best of luck!
No harm no foul. I didn't take it harshly, after all I stated it myself in the subject

You can edit the xml file in /system/etc/apns-conf.xml to include your APN, then make a backup or flashable-zip. Manually replace the file each time you install a new ROM, or better yet, use flashable zip.
What would be the best way to create a flashable zip? I have seen a few blank ones floating around, and ways to do it from the PC, but I'm looking to do it from my phone.

I attached a flashable zip for you. You can try it, if your apn isn't in there just extract the apns-conf.xml from the zip, add your apn in the same format the others are in, then put back in zip.
