Hey guys,
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. I'm trying to add icon pack support to Floating Notifications. And I've managed to do so, but it only works for free icon packs. Paid ones have their content protected in JB+ so I'm not sure how to get a hold of the appfilter.xml for these ones. This is what I'm using for the free ones, I then get the appfilter.xml from an input stream and parse it for the drawable names. However as explained paid icon packs return 0 assets.
Code:
Context context = createPackageContext(packageName, Context.CONTEXT_IGNORE_SECURITY);
Resources res = context.getResources();
String str = "";
res.getAssets().list(str);
There's a lot of info on building icon packs but none I can find on using them within an application.. Any help would be appreciated
You could write to somebody whose app supports paid icon packs and ask him. There are emails in Google Play.
Just tell him that you really like his app and that you wish to support this amazing feature you saw in his app. However, you should ask somebody with a completely different app.
And please tell us the result.

Thanks. I've emailed a couple of people whose apps support icon packs, mainly launcher apps as the main purpose of this feature is to carry on the look of the launcher icons within FN, also because these are apps I'm not competing with.. Let's see if I get any response.. I'll update the thread if I do as I'm sure this info would benefit others too

Great. Thanks.
Maybe there is also an open-source app on Github. I will have a look.
And please post the solution.
EDIT: I did not find anything on Github.

I apologize if this has been discussed, I really did search and only found one place where this was asked, but there was no answer. According to the Samsung 7.7 features page it says this "Mini Apps : Upgraded so you can choose and edit your own Mini Apps tray. You can easily access favorite features such as Calendar, Email, or PenMemo as a pop up over full screen applications. " So obviously my question is this. How is this done? Or is it even possible on my model? Thank you and again sorry of this has already been addressed.
If you look at the bottom bar on your Tab you will see an icon that looks like an upside down 'v'. Click on it and it will bring up your mini-apps tray. You can launch those mini apps over the app you are in.

I think you misunderstood my question. I know about the up/ down arrow and the mini apps. But it says that is is Upgraded so you can choose and edit your own Mini Apps tray. So Im trying to figure out how to change them if its possible on the wifi only 6810. Thanks

Im not totally sure which one I used, but it might have been the one in post 19. But that one will change the icons as well. Im not sure where you might get one that is stock. The same author of that thread "Ssaass" makes an app called "Wizzbar" that might help you. I may be able to make one for you. Upload your systemui.apk and Ill see what I can do.

Ok, didnt think I forgot about you did you? I think this is what your looking for. The edit function shows up when you press the mini apps button. Lower right corner, cant miss it. This is all stock icons with edit function built in. Hope this is what you wanted. I tested this on my rooted stock 6810. Let me know if it works.
PS: For anyone that might want to know how I did it. All I did was use the "layout" folder in the Res folder from the apk that has the edit function. Then rezipped, changed name and permissions, and put back into system/ app.
Awesome... Thanks for your time. I'll try it when i get home tonight. I'm thanking you now anyway...

Yes, it works, thanks... But what I didn't expect is that you can't add any app you want, it's just limited to some samsung "mini" apps which really su**s!
I wonder if there's a way around that...
Thanks again I really appreciate it anyway.

Yea. Thats why I dont even use it. I use "honeybar" and hide the bar in games, movies, etc.
One thing that annoyed me deeply under Gingerbread was the fact that I would carefully arrange my apps icons along the apps pages, as I needed them to be, only to find out, a couple of days later, that the system "rearranged" some of them by its own will.
I struggled with this a bit and then just gave up thinking that the move to Honeycomb would solve the problem.
It didn't!...I am having the exact same problem with this new 7.7
Is there a solution to this?
It is kind of critical that icons stay where we want them to when their number starts to proliferate...This is exactly the kind of thing that can give Android a bad name, in what respects to user-friendliness......I don't think iOs suffers from a shortcoming as basic as this one...

Are you using a different launcher or still TouchWiz? If you aren't try any of the better known launchers (i'm using Go Launcher HD).

I am staying with TW until ICS comes around...I intend to change it afterwards.
Am I to understand that this specific problem is "launcher-dependent" ?
Thanks!
XK
In my experience, the icon self-rearrangement happened when I go to the "My apps" or "Frequent" pages. In other words, as long as I remain in the "All" page, the icons seem to stay without this self-arrangement.
I use a program called appzorter for this. It works well in keeping the TW launcher and my sanity.

From what i've noticed. The app drawer is part of the launcher, so it would reason why I haven't seen it happen in the other launchers i've tried (I also noticed this in TouchWiz with the Tab 7 Plus I tried before going to the 7.7).
If you are willing to switch to a different launcher after ICS, I strongly suggest you try before hand. If nothing else, it doesn't hurt to try, they can be easily removed.

No, it seems to work ok, under HC...
It sorts out the apps in alphabetical order and further allows to group them into separate "System" and "Installed" groups, if wanted.
For the moment, it will do...
(Thanks Robroy90!)

There came a point for me where the app drawer was not useful due to all my apps. Instead I use folder organizer and put my apps in specific folders.
Originally i put those folders on my desktop/docks but realized they were redundant after i added them to a SwipePad panel.
Now my desktops and docks are less cluttered and i only need to swipe in from the side of the screen to get instant access to my apps organized in those folders. I ignore my drawer now.
Hey guys how are you all?? ... hope you are fine..
hey i need to know if is there any app which can launch others app's activities... i had recently installed CM9 on my defy+ and i found the lock screen options has a very amaizng cool option which can lunch any app from any of its activities.... so i can start for example facebook directly from my profile view activity... is there anyway to run such activities directly from a console.. comand line or any app which does the same out of CM9???
thnks it would be very cool :victory:
Questions go in the Q&A section
What do you mean by "console"? A Terminal?
Anyway, I have Apex launcher on my device and there it's possible to place shortcuts to specific activities on homescreen.
E.g. I have a shortcut pointing directly to the tethering settings activity.

Hm I don't think that this is possible (but you simply gonna try that)... for me it's more like a 'shortcut' to save you time that you normally spend tapping on your screen.
So I'm new to the world of android development and I wanna create an app thats a bit like glovebox by FBarrosoApps here in terms of usage but different in functionality.
So, I've got a service running as well as an activity but I just don't know how to listen for that swipe gesture once the service is active, and I cant seem to find it anywhere on the internet.
Does anybody know how I could do this?

hi for the last year or so i've been working on designing a custom environment for android, i just released a custom navigationbar app called arc lighting navigationbar on the playstore allthough it has been used and tested on galaxy devices such as the note 9 it works on any other phone too, this app will let you customize the navigationbar extensively, which includes changing each button back,home,recent apps to various icons both presets and icons from any iconpack, you can also place colored layers behind the icons, each color can also follow your wallpaper or app, you can customize it so much that you can turn it into a taskbar for desktop use meaning you can use any phone as a pc without a seperate environment such as samsung dex, the app is called arc lighting navigationbar, i couldn't possibly describe everything it can do so you'd have to test it i don't think theres anything you can think of that you can't do with when it comes to customization, whats left is the dockmenu for true desktop and mobile environment but the developer i am working with does not want to finish the work until this app gets traffic as i owe him too much money for the work he did.
here you can see it on a s9+ https://www.facebook.com/symetium/videos/441167859757603/
and here you can see it on a xperia 1 including it's desktop ui

in the beginning of the message you say you are developing the app and its in the play store and then at the end u speak about the actual dev is someone else and they dont want to finish the work for x reason.
sooo.. what are we to do with this?
is it available or not?
or is this just to monetize youtube links?

honestly it means a lot when someone truly appreciates my work i have to go through a lot of 1 star ratings for really weird reasons such as too complicated or uses too many permissions so it's nice when someone actually appreciates it thank you, and yes it is difficult to figure out as i wanted customization per button rather than all 3 at once, i could have made it simpler and had one light control for all buttons at once but each button has it's own full set of settings icon, color,light indicator,movement, layer etc i don't find it complicated as i designed it but i understand if other people do.
I'm impressed. To be able to do that without root is awesome since this thing is in root limbo. As soon as I have 6 bucks I'll donate. I'm on an N9... Can't get the advanced option to work... Any thoughts?

well i am really sorry to say but the advanced option does not work on galaxy phones for some reason so the app has been made to block the advanced option to function, we tried to get it to work but it crashes the phones ui theres something with oneui so you'd need to use the mode that requires no root or software, the difference between advanced and simple is simply no transparency theres no other difference so you get all the same features as advanced but instead of modifying the navigationbar it will place one ontop of the old one i recommend doing this with gesture navigation enabled as then you get a very thin navigationbar as well as the gesture navigation, but i am so sorry for this i should have been more clear on that, made me sad considering you liked the app.
Sounds great. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

you're welcome let me know if you need any help, as mentioned i do recommend enabling gesture navigation first this makes the navigationbar much thinner than usual it also allows you to use gesture navigation or taps at the same time.
