Hello streak users - Streak 5 General

I have been asked by one of your fellow streak users to come over and help bring new life to an elderly device. I have done some work with the HTC EVO 4g which has similar hardware. What I am looking to bring at this moment is a source built ROM by the name of cyanmobile. Like the Og EVO gingerbread is the best aka only fully functional os. Cyanmobile is gingerbread remade. It is not themed to look like ICS/jb but instead has ICS/jb features back ported. It is also extreamly customizable like all the new jb ROMs. It has the cool new features such as softkeys (Navbar), pie, toggle panels, and so much more.
Now I have a good source code with many mods and changes to increase the performance and looks. What I need is some info from yall the streak users. I do not own a streak and have not even seen one. Although the specs are not too far from an Og EVO the dev support here has been on the low side.
So far Giveen has helped me out with some of the vital source needed to start working on this project. Now I am also in need of users who know the basics of adb and logcat. Since I don't have the device y'all will be my eyes on this project. Anyone looking to help out feel free to hit me up here on XDA or via Google. My all my Google is linked to [email protected]. No matter the form g+, email, or talk/hangouts the one name will work for all.
Hope to here back from y'all and will strive to bring you the best gingerbread ROM to ever grace any device period!

Hope you could bring more development for Dell Streak 5. I would sure appreciate such effort. I have just recently came across the website, unfortunately, so, I just started here, just started learning, and hopefully there are still more development for DS5 for many2 months before I decided to put it RIP  and hopefully that not too soon, since I am still much attached to my DS5...

I'd be very delighted to help.

CyanogenMod 6.1 is on its way! And its easy to get on Captivate!

Sorry if this has already been posted.
I apologize for not keeping the site up to date, I’m a slacker We also had a database issue and lost the last post about 6.0′s release, if you were wondering why it went missing.
6.1 is the current work-in-progress and is coming together nicely. There’s a few new features like touch-to-focus in the camcorder, dismiss notifications by swiping, kernel updates for most devices, and improved performance. There will also be support for a few new devices- Acer Liquid, HTC Wildfire and Samsung Vibrant. My eye is also on the new HTC phones that are about to get released like the G2.
A lot of people ask me about adding support for their phone, but we can only support phones that we actually own. The CM team is always looking for new hackers to join up with us to add support for their favorite device. Get in touch with me if you’d like to help.
CyanogenMod is open source. The quality of code being added to CM has vastly improved because of the code review system that we’ve put in place, Gerrit. It’s the same system used by Google to manage the Android Open Source Project. It allows anyone to submit code to the project in a highly-visible way and gives us a way to examine and improve it before it’s actually merged. We want your code, so send us your patches. If there’s something you don’t like, change it.
Nightly builds of CM are always available if you’re brave and want to try out the latest code. If you’re running nightly builds, the best way to stay up to date on new changes is to follow @cmsrc on Twitter.
Our user base is approaching a quarter of a million users. This project has come a long way Thanks for all the support, we are only as strong as the community!

Porting a vibrant rom to the captivate is not hard
no wayyyy this is finally coming to our cappy, i'd be beyond happy
Hate to sound like a douche, but is there anything in there (besides maybe some of the features of CM6.1) that we havent known for a long time? No release date, we know thier working on it, and we know they are working with the vibrant.
Well if you look here it still shows as in progress for version 6.0...They have said in the past that the vibrant won't be supported till 6.1 and then someone will still have to port it to the captivate..

So I don't think we will be seeing anything soon...
so, i'm sure everyone will get a good laugh, because everyone talks about how this is the best thing about to come since sliced bread........
but what is SO great about this?

Froyo! Plus lots of custom stuff.
well i knew it was based on 2.2....but the "custom stuff" is what i meant. What are some of the big things it does that are so great
I'm new to the whole Android scene so excuse my ignorance but can someone explain how CM6.1 can possibly be put on a GalaxyS phone when there is no source code for the kernel?

The other custom roms seem to use the 2.1 kernel.
I checked that spreadsheet about 3 weeks ago, and it was still in development like it is now for the vibrant.

Its not really about a wealth of extra features. Cyanogenmod has extra configurability. In addition it is a bit more cohesive than typical roms. I definitely preferred it over the stock Nexus One rom and the stock nexus one rom is better than stock Captivate.
The rapid updates and support is enough for me to use Cyanogenmod.

But 6.1 is Froyo, all the ROMs I've seen are Eclaire... How are they using a 2.1 kernel with Froyo?
I was under the impression the reason for no Froyo ROMs on the Captivate was due to lack of source from Samsung?

i'm sure when this comes out you'll be able to strip the FroYo out of it and make it your own, and better
CM6.1 will come to the captivate after is released to the vibrant, kernel differences are minimal between the two so porting CM6.1 to the captivate will only require few kernel changes.
yeah i'm sure the port will be done in the time it takes to heat up a pop tart.

[Q] REQ: Vanilla, just plain old Android, nothing else

Any chance of a vanilla rom?, no Samsung software, no themes, just plain old regular Google Android?. I dont care if its 2.1 or 2.2, I had a very nice vanilla rom on my Droid X, and I miss that. As it is I hate this phone intensely due to the lack of finding a Vanilla rom.
Does vanilla exist?
no the rom is not functional yet, but why don't you just apply the aosp theme
Super Clean, adw, asop theme. About as close as you'll get at the moment. It works well and looks stock.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Jt's super clean and aosp theme by retro kid is what I use.
The feeling I've gotten is that it takes a ton of work to make AOSP (vanilla) run on this device, making sure drivers work etc. There's not a whole lot of reason for them to make all that effort when 2.2 is around the corner. Once 2.2 and its source are released I think we will see an AOSP rom, but not likely before. As the others suggest try a rom like blackhole and go with an aosp like theme.
Actually, there are a lot of really cool functions that you lose if everything was aosp
Should not be in the development forum.
As far as vanilla android, its being worked on but right now there are no developments. Samsung hacked together the RIL used to communicate with the cell radio from a 1.5 device to work with our device, not easy to work with
If the new update is not out, well the sad truth is we will not see 2.2 for a long time. Ive swapped my phone out so many times Verizon has given me the choice of choosing a different phone.
I might have to move on myself...ive given android enough time to tickle my fancy. And im just sad the developers just dont want to make decent apps. Its so weird that a phone with such great specs as the galaxy s just isnt supported by devs, the carriers or even samsung. There has to be much more of a problem with the phone than we actually know about.
It is supported by developers. Very much so. However they cannot work with the garbage code, and this 1.5 ril bull****.

I wasnt really talkin about the Hacking Community Devs. I meant Market Devs, carriers and manufacturers. Hacking community can only do so much!
BTW off topic did anyone see how Microsoft is workign together with HACKING DEVS? Smart move , good for them.
Did you see that the big hack was for a whopping custom ringtone? Damn. Go Microsoft. Hack in a song that plays when someone called. I've only had that functionality for the past 5+ years.

Far from. Microsoft is in no way supporting hackers they just aren't taking an Apple stand against it. Go google the article they basically tell you if you mess up your device you're on your own. Same story different wording. Microsoft will never enable homebrew. Think about their history.
Actually they jailbroke wp7 then microsoft got together to work with them on opening restrictions.... very cool move!!!

BTW if you use custom roms and root your android phone.........your on your own also!!! Warrenty is dead!!
Noone gives you warrenty when you alter the software. NOONE! But i think its a great move by microsoft.
I personally have alot of respect for microsoft. I think that windows phone 7 is a great product.
BTW we are way off topic haha.

How many roms do we need ?

I am a big fan of flashing my phone every chance i get but lately i found most the roms available are all polluted by sense 3.0. All of them have sense 3.0 lock, weather, task manager and sense 2.1 !!
please dont take me wrong its good to have many roms but there should be some thing unique .All the roms are a subset of either Lee,MDJ or stock kernel ! which only have slight difference between them.
when i started flashin rom's there was either Lee's UV stock rom's, mike's revolution rom give similar to stock experience or core driod which was a fully modded stock rom. there enough difference between all of the to set them apart.
Why not all the dev's who are coming out with so many alike rom's team up and help in getting sense 3.0 properly ported rather then only RCMIX team working on it?
Just my two cents....
What about cyanogen mod...just saying

Tired of sense rom.. tried miui for a new experience and was quite satisfied with it..
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
thanks for your replies guys.
your right CM and MIUI are worthy alternatives which i have tried and found very good.
But what i find annoying is all of the respective dev's concentrating on the same sense 2.1 roms with sense 3.0 stuff on it. I really dont see any difference in any of them. I am now back to using RCMIX 5.9 which is a prefectly good rom with all the sense 3.0 addons released by seo on it !!! the best part of it is i can enjoy excellent speed of 5.9 , with out the glitches of the other sense 3.0 baked in rom's.
Almost tempts me to release this customized 5.9 rom and pollute already polluted pool of rom's !
I am not demanding dev's to work on some thing they don't want to work on, i understand they are contributing there skills at the expense of there valuable time but if only some of them could work on honeycomb port or ubuntu or even xperia rom ports.
PS: I respect all dev's contributing on the forum my thread is no means an hate or a demand thread.
Just my two cents .....
as many as we can get?
I think that's what make Android different. We have the power to do anything with *our* phone. Well, in my case I can just enjoy what the devs cook.
Really appreciate the choices we have, and kudos to all the hardworking devs!
Have you tried HoneySenseHD? Its HTC Sense not as you know it.
Instead of *****ing about it, why not get off yer ass and make one?
.....
I am thankful to the devs. But if I don't like the direction they go, or the stuff they do I don't use it. I don't whine in the general forum about how I wish... If I am gonna wish, I wish I was the owner of the girls Swedish volleyball team.
Just my two cents.

I understand what you are saying, but we should be greatful that unlike a lot of phones the DHD has plenty of choices and will most likely be supported by the community until our contracts are due for renewal.
AFAIK an Ubuntu port already exists and I would question the value of a honeycomb port.
OP, I'm hearing you. I am personally also not a fan of Sense 3.0, there just seem to be too many issues and bugs.
But think about it from the cook's POV... Sense 3.0 isn't meant to be properly out and yet they've managed to include it into the ROM of their own making. It's an achievement to be proud of, certainly. But for people like you and I, it just means maybe being a bit more discerning or choosing an older ROM.
Like kedai said, the difference Android has is that we can actually do this, we can change and customise pretty much anything about our phones.
Honeysense HD is the best Rom I have used with Sense 3.0, well most of Sense 3.0. Haven't had any issues.

I am not winning about what i don't like or what i want, i'm not even indicating that dev's are doing some thing wrong which i dont like. I just pointed out how most of the roms now are alike.
Thank's for other's that have replied and shared there view's.
What I don’t understand is how people that just throw things together using existing tools, and not know any type of coding what so ever (or just know high school level visual basic), are allowed to be called DEV's.
Though porting can be a tedious job, there are many many things that go unresolved in existing roms, and updates consist of updated apps, or throwing in updated edits that OTHER people have actually made. EG: most of the sense 3.0 add-ons we see in almost all of the available roms were fixed up by half a dozen people or less (like Seo, Krzysiec, and MDJ to name a few)
Last thing I remember learning in university, in software engineering, was when creating something, make it as close to a final product as possible, then test, edit, retest, edit, release.
If you're editing something, do it right, and finish it before you release, not half ass something and say it’s done.
A thanks goes out to all the REAL dev's that are actually improving their own work, fixing errors of their previous edits when they are found.

Nexus S Development 4G/GSM

Hello everyone. Allow me to introduce myself first off. I'm a long time xda member, an acs member (Android Creative Syndicate), a themer, and a developer. I originally started on the Samsung Moment, learned themes, and shortly after moved up to the Samsung Epic. I created quite a few themes for the Epic, and then began working with ACS devs testing and learning what they were doing for the ACS roms.
I've got some plans for my Nexus and hopefully everyone can benefit from it. My first missing piece upon buying the nexus was the widgets in the status bar ie bt, gps, wifi, etc. soon as I got my phone that was a high priority. I ported a theme immediately from the Epic so I could have my eye candy back while working on bigger and better projects. The theme is in Nexus Themes and Apps called H.R. Giger and can be found here: Thread. My second project, the Samsung Touchwiz Quick Panel port, which is also the same thing as the power control widgets on the Cyanogen Mod roms, is now mostly complete and can be found here: Thread. Also there is a subsequent thread that I turned into a guide on how I did the mod as well as actively answer questions to anyone looking to do the same for their roms located here: Thread. I say the mod is *mostly done because I would like to replace the auto rotation widget with the Wimax (4g) for us Sprint Users. The problem is Sprint has made the Wimax modular and placed it into an apk where it links itself into the settings menu, as well as the framework. The problem with this is I can't access the wimaxmanager inside the apk from the SystemUi.apk because of what seems to be a security issue. Most likely this was done intentionally by Sprint to protect their proprietary software, but I'm not 100% sure. I like to believe that we can get around it and get this working but it's def on the back burner now.
My current port is the TSM Lockscreen Parts. This mod allows you to go into settings, under the option for About Phone, there will be a new choice called Lockscreen Parts. From there you can choose between now 8 different Lockscreens. You can also turn the music controls on the different lock screens. I have the Mod 100% working with 3 of the lockscreens ported. I will have one more this afternoon and 4 more however long it takes.
I have released the Quick Panel mod to the public already since it's such a useful mod, but all of these things will be going into my rom which will include the quick panel, lockscreen chooser, and reboot options. The rom will be based on stock NS4G 2.3.4 GRJ22 AOSP build. There is absolutely, in my eyes, nothing wrong with the stock rom running on our Nexus. I feel adding as little code as possible to it to enable these features will send it over the top.
The reason for this thread is two fold. I would like to announce myself to the Nexus community for those coming from something other than the Epic and might not be familiar with my work, and to let any other developers out there what's on my plate if they care to take part in it or were planning on doing the same things. I hate to see someone start on the lockscreen today as much work as it is, and I'm more than half way through. Also I wanted to reach out to the GSM devs, as all this work should transfer over to your phones very easily.
Future projects are already on the backburner including a new theme complete as Giger that takes over every aspec of the phone but this time instead of replace the GB theme, I plan to accent it. Porting over a slew of nice themes is in the works as well. Also I plan on working on getting most of the Transparent and Blacked out apps the Epic has available over to us as well. Anyone else, I know Mikeinid was planning on a transparent gtalk as well so feel free to post here upcoming plans and we can build mods together as one instead of each other doing the same thing.
I hope there are more people out there that will join me in working on the Nexus because the more options the better!. I get asked plenty of times why am I working on porting smali code for the Nexus when we have full source. I'm a reverse engineer by heart. I work backwards a hell of a lot better than forwards. After this rom is complete and I'm set up building NS4G code from source, (I'm mostly done getting set up for that as well) I plan on playing with java code and seeing what apps/mods I can build right into source so in the future I hope my releases will be in source code and anyone can add the code and build it right into their roms.

I've put in a majority of the last 48 hours on on the epic lockscreen and still don't boot. This one requires modding the framework.jar. Each time I logcat the boot I'm finding more methods not present in the aosp so I'm definitely incorporating some new features. Music controls already work but the epic lock is going to display the tw controls I'm guessing. Regardless the end if near hopefully tomorrow then I have the ***** the puzzle lock then its more framework additions for the muiu lock. A couple weeks away I'm betting

dreams you are amazing. you already have my support (for what its worth..) and here is to hoping that you port puzzle lock to cm7 afterwards >.> or at the very least get nemith to include it
Cool, glad to see this stuff being ported. I am coming from the EVO and was used to so many devs working on themes, Roms and what not and the NS4G feels so bare. It's always nice to get new minds working on our device. You seem to know what you are doing and I can't wait to see your finished products. Thanks for the introduction.
I'm calling it quits for the night. Touchwiz files in this one require heavy modding of the smali. I have to add in tons of features not in. aosp and make it work together. I know most of what needed but this will take some time. Should be easier for the rest of the locks when I get our policy up to par with the sgs one.
