Hello all, lurker of the forum here and finally decided to make an account!!
I store all my photos on Dropbox in a folder called Pictures, and there are sub folders with in it for various thing. Trying to figure out if there is a way to put a shortcut to these folders in the Stock Gallery APP for easy access.
I was thrilled with using Picasa as an online storage for photos, and keep it in sync with my, in which this case they showed up in my Gallery APP, however I was bummed to see that Picasa did not support Sub Folders/Sub Albums, So everything was a mess!.
Does anyone have any suggestions of want to share their method of how you access your collection of photos without having them stored locally on the phone??
I am running a Nexus 4 Stock 4.2 Android OS
bump

I haven't tried it myself yet, but this thread suggests Pictarine, and in concept it seems to work pretty well.
Give it a try.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I actually found that thread and gave this a shot. But for some add reason it seems this APP does not have the ability to link a DROPBOX folder.
It has Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, 500px... but not dropbox?

I installed it just now. You're right, the option for Dropbox is missing. What's weird though is it's still stated as a supported source from their website. Huh.
Might be just a matter of fiddling with the settings. If not... unfortunately I'm not aware of any other apps that can do this.

I cannot seem to view my favourite videos saved in my Youtube account using HD2 Youtube app. I have logged in using Data Services.
Any ideas?
Youtube app doesn't use your account, in fact it doesn't use any account.
The account that you made a login in manila is for shortcuts to upload videos when you see one with the htc player and go to the options.
How pointless ...is there a Youtube app that lets you log in and view favourites?
Thank You.

As far I know no
pretty stupid thing actually, i thought the same thing but well see if htc manages to cook something up
It seems silly, but this app was around before we had data services settings in the interface. It's a legacy app, and therefore doesn't use newer features of the UI. I'd expect another version at a later date that does use more up-to-date features, but you can guarantee that the UI will change again and have new options that aren't plugged into older software.
Basically, the app wasn't written for this UI. It was written for WM.
Can you see your favourites in Opera when you browse the mobile YouTube site? You can launch videos from there.
I noticed in the Gallery app on my N10 there is a Dropbox section. Are those pictures stored on Google Drive somewhere? I can't seem to find them outside of what is actually on the N10.
Where is the dropbox exactly? I don't see it in my Gallery. Maybe take a screenshot?

I think I figured it out. It appears to be something like a Google Photos thing. I'm not so sure it is Picassa. Once I chose "Photos" from Google it did display a Dropbox. What I put in there shows up on the tablet. Now the only thing I don't understand is using this along with the Daydream option in settings. It states that it will display the photos when charging, but when I charge nothing happens.
My gallery displays a dropbox section for sharing, but only because I have dropbox installed.
Sounds like you have Instant upload turned on for Google+
Decided to make a post of useful Apps (with Nexus 5 in mind) that don't require root. I personally use these on a daily basis and haven't ran into any issues. Please report back if you do encounter any problems. Also please keep in mind, these are intended for those running stock 4.4.4 and are not rooted. As always, use at your own risk.
Messaging com.android.mms.apk
Android Stock Text Messaging (The "Attachment" menu has Sound Recorder "com.android.soundrecorder.apk" actions, highly recommend to install this as well)
Lightbulb com.paranoid.lightbulb.apk
Standard Torch
Facebook Messenger com.facebook.orca.apk
Installing this dummy apk tricks Facebook into letting you use Facebook's internal messenger without the need of the separate Messenger app. Please uninstall Messenger before installing.
CyanogenMod File Manager com.cyanogenmod.filemanager.apk
Basic File Manager
Just FYI, the stock messaging app is nice but try this one out. It's based of the stock messaging app but has a lot of additional features. It's really the best SMS app I have used.

I don't understand what the Facebook apk does. How is it different to the normal one?

Facebook is disabling the chat in it's main app and asks you to download it's separate Messaging app. This lets you restore the messaging functionally inside the main app. You can Google "facebook forcing users to download messenger" if you need to know more.

Is anything truly secure? This simply is a dummy apk that I compiled. It requires no permissions and you should never see it running. Facebook does a check to see if you have the Messenger package "com.facebook.orca" installed. This dummy apk contains the same package name and tricks Facebook. That is all!
That facebook apk is a godsend, THANK YOU!!
Thanks! I was looking for the Lightbulb and the Cyanogenmod file manager
Facebook messenger don't work anymore.
Can you fix it? Thanks

I hate the Facebook app and it is battery draining even though I only use the app for saving pics and uploading them. Otherwise I just use Samsung Internet and browse the Facebook mobile site. What are the other Facebook apps called that you all use and where do I download them and are they more battery friendly? Thanks in advance!
Use facebook lite.
Where do I find it? Its not in Google Play Store

I use the Sammy browser for facebook but a good one is called METAL - in play store
It does facebook and twitter
Tinfoil for Facebook
Unfortunately I can't download it because I'm in the USA.
Unfortunately I can't download Facebook Lite because I'm in the USA. Metal won't do a batch upload for pictures, I have to go and select the picture s one by one and that is time consuming and probably battery consuming where as the Facebook app I can select the 30 pictures I want from my stock gallery to upload and it uploads them. Metal also won't let me select which album I want the pictures to upload to. :/

Download it from apkmirror or somewhere on Google rather than the play store and it will work fine for you

i use simple pro which is a paid app but it is light and regularly goes on sale.
and today its on sale too

You can also try "Swipe for Facebook". It is almost identical in functions to the FB app, and it includes the messenger app (so you don't need to download it separately).

Hello all while I'm still waiting on my White NP1 device just wanted some recommendations for a Free/Paid gallery app.
I know this device uses Google Photos and I'm definitely not happy with them. (truth be known I only use Gmail, Google maps and Translate from the Google range of apps)
Normally I'm used to the gallery apps in Samsung, Honor or Huawei devices.
I don't what something the heavy on package size or system resources.
So any feedback is more than welcome thank you.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.gallery&hl=it&gl=US try this
I use Simple gallery pro, very happy with it. But you can't directly open your (other) gallery from the nothing camera app. That only seems to work with Google photo's. That's rely annoying (close the camera app, start the gallery app to share a picture...}
Currently there seems to be now ay the photos in the camera app get routed to whaterver gallery app exists.
So i had to re-enable gPhotos after disabling them. But there are many avilables ones, you can try SimpleGalleryPro, open fDroid, or just the internet to find one of your choice.
I use quickpic mod by WST
QuickPic
Thanks to all for you input I already use some of the Simple apps and their gallery app did not get much positive feedback from my findings.
That's a bummber about the Gphoto app as I was going to disable or uninstall it hate use Gphoto.
