[Q] Nexus 4 Stock vs ROM? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which has better battery life stock JB or Paranoid Android with Franco Kernel?

Try it yourself, every user has different usages..
But using Franco will improve your battery

The above post is a bit contradictory but it's right in saying that the experience varies from user to user. Some say that the stock ROM and kernel give the best battery life, others prefer different kernels. For me they all seem good enough to get through the day so it doesn't matter too much.

[Q] Best Battery life. Stock or Custom?

experienced user told me that Stock(AOSP 4.2.2) is better than Custom (CM10.1, AOKP...) (in terms of Battery life.)
is this true? maybe someone test?
i have Nexus 7 3G (AOKP off + franco Kernel)
It's impossible to give you a truly correct answer because there's too many variants which can make battery life differ.
As things like apps, usage, ROMs, kernels, mods, the device, tweaks and many other things can all have different effects on battery life, it really is dependant on the specific situation.
So if I was to have the 3G model (as you have), be using the same ROM and kernel combination, have all settings exactly the same, have exactly the same apps installed, use the apps for exactly the same amount of time and have the same mods/tweaks installed, we could still quite easily have our battery life last a different amount of time.
Due to that, that's why it's always best to just test them out for yourself so then you'll know exactly how your battery will perform in regards to your usage

The ROM makes little to no difference whatsoever. Battery life is more affected by the kernel and your own individual settings.

But some ROMs claim to have better battery life than the others (CodenameBattery, SuperCharge Series). Are they talking nonsense?

Odp: [Q] Best Battery life. Stock or Custom?
I use stock 4.2.2 rooted in two weeks now, and the battery is very good. Try to stick to stock in one week or so.

Some could absolutely be talking nonsense but others could actually be telling the truth.
They could have certain tweaks in place that will indeed improve battery and could also have more power saving apps included. There's so many variables that without actually testing them out for yourself, there's no way of knowing whether it will have better battery life or not.
I use a custom ROM on my gnex simply for color control, but in my experience custom kernels never improve battery enough to make more than a very minimal difference. I stick to stock with my 7 for multiple reasons, one being certain EA games won't download data while using custom kernels. You'll see people claiming custom kernel's get them 9 hours display time ect... Well I've gotten that on stock depending on what I was doing with my 7. My average is usually more like 5-6 over 2-3 days as I use it more for gaming than anything.

Like previous members have stated, it's not possible to give you a definite answer as to which gives you better battery life. When I received my N7 I rooted and installed a ROM and a kernel. Ultimately I revert back to full stock android for many reasons. One, battery life was much better on stock kernel than a custom one. I didn't need a custom ROM either. Only on my N4 would I need custom software installed because recently my mother has been using my N7 a lot so my N4 is what I use most now.

Best Kernel and Rom for Battery?

Hi Im an user from nexus 4 since 2 months ago .
since the first day i rooted and change my rom.
i used to use cyanogenmod 10.1 RC2 + Franco Kernel M2 or 134 these days.
when i updated the franco kernel my battery began to drain too much even when the phone was idle. so my battery died in less than 10 h!!!
so i come back with CM kernel and right now my battery is during like 1 day!
im thinking in use rasbean + trinity kernel but i dont know if i should to use faux, semaphore or other one.
i just want my phone to use social apps, calls and i wanna take care of my battery.
what do you recommend me?
Thank You!

You won't get a proper answer to this because the question is completely subjective and experiences vary from user to user. It's the same as asking someone what the best colour is, there simply isn't any correct answer. I'm sure if 10 different people replied you'd receive at least 4 different suggestions.
I too was trying to only get the best battery solution for a couple of months. I ended up using PA with stock PA kernel because the performance was much more efficient, with improved battery life over stock.
okay thanks guys!
In all honesty I used to drive myself crazy with this question, then I realized that there are simply to many variables that are constantly changing from day to day. Now a days I just rock out and charge when I need too.....call me weird lol

Battery life stock vs cm10.1

Hi guy, which is better between stock or cm10.1 for battery life if it used the exact same way ? i mean the exact same app and the exact same sync configuration ... things like that ?
You could try and tell us
Personally i haven't tried CM
Sent from Holy Terra on a paranoid nexus 4
CM uses the same kernel as stock, So I don't think there'll be any difference in battery life.
Battery life is more a matter of user and device then kernel. We could run the same rom, same kernel and see very different battery life due to apps installed, set up, and how we use the device. This is a common known fact.

Best kernel for Nexus 4 on CM10.1.0

I'm looking for battery life/performance a good balance between the 2. I like Franco.Kernel but is there a better one that suits those needs? I have a lot of experience but I just don't want to go on a flashing spree and risk breaking something.

All devices react differently with different kernels and roms. That's why there are people that say this kernel is better than the other. Franco is a good starting point. if it's not good, try another kernel. That's the only way YOU will know.

as far as i know, battery life isnt bad on any of the kernels, it would mostly depend on your setup and your usage. if you go into any of the kernel threads, there will be someone that claims that it gives the best battery life. now performance of these kernels do vary, this is where they differ from each other. itll also depend on what your personal idea of performance is. try a different kernel every few days,, it only takes a few minutes to flash, youll find a favorite. just remember, battery life will be more accurate on the 2nd or 3rd battery cycle.

The stock CM kernel works fine for me
I've tried a number of kernels whenever I see a new one released. My personal favorites for performance/battery combo are: Franco, Faux123, Trinity, AK. They each perform mildly different however, and like stated before the best way to find out what's best for you is to try them. Good luck!

I´ve tried AOPK, OMNIrom and CM10.1.3 and CM11 and for me the best battery performance I got was from CM 11, battery life is great.
I found AOSB n sensonic having best battery life.. Bt battery life depends on ur usage. 3g, wifi, music, videos n calls. I do a lot chatting on whatsapp n 3g all day on. Used 2 get more than a day battery life. Nw shifted 2 a tw rom for a change..

the ROM with the best battery life that i have tried is DITTO3 v4.1 (android 4.4.2). All Samsung's utilities (s.pen, multiwindows, camera etc etc..) with a more that one day of use (3G and 5/6 hours of screen).
I myself found TouchWiz ROM having better battery life. I do a lot of tweaking on aosp, probam, paranoid, but still found battery life is not so good. I tried custom kernel with undervolt. It doesn't really improve too much battery life. My sot target is 6 to 8 hours.
