[Q] How to remove some of the GAPPS ? - Nook Touch General

After rooting and installing GAPPS, now I need to get rid of some ... like News and Weather, Google Talk, if possible the Market app (as I installed SearchMarket).
The problem is that I CANNOT. I tried with Root Uninstaller, but it cannot find any apps... it gives me SD card error. So, I need a way to uninstall them from where are installed (not from where Root Uninstaller is looking for apps and not finding any).
Please help, thanks.

You don't want to remove Market just because you installed SearchMarket as SearchMarket is just for searching and it invokes Market to show the result list and for installs. Market is dependent on Talk under the covers for communication with Google servers. I think you can uninstall Talk.apk (front end messenger) and leave TalkProvider.apk installed and everything will work OK. To uninstall Talk.apk use ADB or a root explorer like ES File Explorer to rename Talk.apk to Talk.apk.bak and verify the Market and other GApps you use still work. When you're sure you can delete Talk.apk.bak.

[Q] gtalk removed, errors

like a fool I rooted my phone and deleted gtalk, and am now unable to use market and am massaged about gapps needing to force close, very often. I have replaced the applications and put them back on the system/apps folder but still get the nagging errors and no market. any advice as to what to try now? its not like my phone is unusable butt it certainly is annoying
wipe dalvik from recovery..
thanks but I still get the errors
although it's a rather old post
for the sake of completeness:
Market does not work without gtalk.
The Market isnt a nice frontend for a website, the whole technique behind the market is rather made with the JABBER-protocol, and therefore it cannot work without gtalk
Cheers,
nussig mit füllung
1-install systemapp remover apk
2-create folder named "SystemAppBackup" your sdcard
3-copy gtalkservice apk in this folder
4-run systemapp remover program,press options button,and select restore app,select gtalkservice.apk

cant reinstall apps

Running cm7. Had a bad glitch so I did factory reset. Now I can't really install the apps I already paid for like quickoffice. Market doesn't even give me the option to purchase or install it again. What now?
Probably an issue with the newer market. Search around the forums and you'll see several fixes for this (uninstall market updates, pixel density change, etc).
go to manage apps, and uninstall updates for the Market. If that works as it did for me with Nightly 166, I used ES File Explorer to rename MarketUpdater.APK file. I'm sure you'll find this suggestion somewhere else.

You can also uninstall the marker updater app and it will go away. No need to rename the apk file and leave it on your Nook.

[Solution] Restore "old" market

When market is updated itself to new version we have problems.
Mostly timeouts, lags, etc.
There is solution that can revert update.
In fact, market is 2 applications:
vending.apk
MarketUpdater.apk
To use "old" market you need only delete that 2 applications and install old market.
Deleting updater is necessary, because it will download new version right after you use old one 1st time.
To remove system apps you need root and application, ie "root app remover".
After you delete them just install old market (zip attached).
Unzip it on SD card and install via file manager or easy installer.

Got to system/lib/
Delete libSwypeCore.so
Rerun Swype installer.
you can use titanium backup to uninstall it.
then when you install it through the installer, it will show up in manage apps in settings.
Thanks jneal9 but I can not delete the file. I have Astro and File Expert. Neither worked.
Thanks funeralthirst. Was able to uninstall but I still need to delete the .so file
after much searching I found an alternative to root explorer- super manager. was able to delete the .so file
Thanks for the help. I learn something new everyday.

Try root explorer, astro can't access the file.
I was trying to install the lastest swype beta apk following almost all the steps above (I didn't erased the files, only renamed them) but wasn't successful, is there any other way? I'm using ES Explorer (with Root Explorer option checked)
The above mentioned steps worked for me:
-uninstall with Titanium
-delete the libswypecore.so file
I used Super Manager for the root explorer. Search marketplace for this. It's free and Root Explorer is not. In either of them you need to change the permissions of the file from r/o to r/w (read only to read write).
The thing with Titanium is that once before i've tried to install a new email app, so I used this Titanium to uninstall it first and when i've run the installer it showed "Application Not Installed" no matter how many times I excuted it, and this totally messed my phone up, I had to odin back to stock!
So, in this case is safe to unistall Swype and the installer apk won't give that error?
I make no guarantees but what is mentioned in this thread works. And, as I've learned the hard way, you should make a backup of your phone before flashing anything.
Follow the above steps. Not only remove the AOL but also the file"kinetoscope.so". Use root explorer or super manager to do this.
It seems like it's alot of work but once you have everything you need it goes fast. Searching for the answer is the hardest part.
Sent from my SGS-t959 using XDA App
ok 2 things
1. ES File Manager (Root explorer for free on market
2. when you uninstall Swype using Titanium Reboot phone before reinstalling Swype. Same with most applications. Rebooting clears out the temp files that can corrupt a reinstallation.
Hi,
I've only had an android phone for a month or two (Samsung Galaxy S2, 2.3.3 Gingerbread, not rooted)
I have the same problem removing swype with no 'uninstall' option (trying to update to new version). All of these solutions seem to require a rooted droid, is that the case or have I misunderstood?
Can anyone offer a solution that does not involve rooting?
Thanks!

If Swype came preinstalled you won't be able to remove it without root.
Thanks for your reply jneal9. Swype did not come pre-installed on my phone, I had to download the beta to be able to use it.
However, after I updated the Swype Installer (so that I could then update Swype itself) it gives the message "Sorry, the Swype Beta is currently unavailable for devices that have Swype preinstalled" (which it definitely did not).
Is this something that anyone has come across before? I'm a bit surprised that it seems like this application (although I do realize that it is a Beta) cannot be uninstalled without rooting the phone!
Thanks!
This also happened to me when i was on malice v5. i tried everything to get swype back but to no avail. i switched from that to miui because malice will soft boot while ur on the phone when u have 30% or less battery.
I had the same problems and hopefully this will help others: first I had tried to restore Swype from Titanium and got Force Closes. Then, I downloaded a new version of Swype and after deleting the old installed: "Application Did Not Install" then I went to /system/lib and saw that libswypecore.so was NOT there. So after many combinations of the above recommendations, I finally did this: deleted all traces of Swype, rebooted phone, used Root Explorer to change /system/apps to R/W, copied the latest Swype in, ran the install (success), then EXTRACTED the libswypecore.so from the Swype.apk and manually copied to /system/lib and changed the permissions to the recommended settings above. Worked! No Swype alerts me to a new version, I download within Swype, it asks to replace, I say yes, and the installation fails! At least the version I loaded still works.

Which .apk can be deleted?

Hello!
Can anybody tell me which .apk files I am safe to delete? My setup:
-NookManager
-GApps
-Kindle
-Will not be using *any* B&N Apps (however removing them using NookManager stops the Market from working)
The only GApp I am really interested in is the Market - Is it possible to side load this *only*? It's just lots of other stuff is installed as part of GApp which I have no need for... But there are so many .apk files in system/app and I'm concerned removing some may cause instabilities.
Thanks.

No you can't install just the Market. The Market is dependent on the Google Talk and other backend apks. There are patches to system files to get Android setup to work to activate the market. Better to install NTGAppsAttack and then delete what you don't need. After installing NTGappsAttack you can probably remove GenieWidget.apk, Calculator.apk, Calendar.apk, Gmail.apk and Talk.apk. These are all frontends so they shouldn't cause trouble. Before you do this you probably want to use Gmail to get into account and sync settings to turn off mail, calendar and contacts sync. Then you can try removing some of the backend stuff - GmailProvider.apk, CalendarProvider.apk, ContactsProvider.apk and GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk. I would start with renaming these apk's and seeing how it goes then if all is well you can delete them. Everything else I would leave alone.
Read through the NookManager and NTGAppsAttack threads. There is a discussion there somewhere about the disabling of B&N apps and the affect on the market.
