the front facing camera isnt working - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay ...when I open the camera app (especially when I open it from the lock screen) it says "can't connect to camera" its very annoying and I have to reboot to use it .. I searched in Google about it and most of the threads says that this problem is from the 4.2.2 .. I hope that it from the software not from the hardware ...
CHANGED THE TITLE AND THE THREAD>>> the front camera isnt working i reflashed the rom and flashed cyanogenemod 10.1 and its still not working .when i enter the camera and switch from rear to front the app isnt responding and when i close it and open it ... the app says "cant connect to camera" but when i reboot it the rear comes back but the front it same ... okay it a hardware problem but i havent done anything to the device i bought it about 3 weeks ago .. it still new

Update: the camera problem is from camera app .. I reboot it and when I enter from an app like cymera which have a camera .. It running very well but when enter the official camera its a black screen and the warning is showing in cymera too ... I need you 4.3

i did factory reset , clear data .. and the front camera isnt working anymore ... PLEASE HELP !!!

okay i unlocked it , rooted it , flashed google factory rom and still the front cam is not working
can somebody tell me if the problem is hardware or software ????? PLEEEEASE.....

It could be a hardware issue. Try flashing another ROM like AOKP to see if that works. If there is no ROM/kernel combination that will work, then it's probably hardware.

Don't you think you answered the question yourself? You reflashed a STOCK CLEAN image, but it still doesn't work. That leaves software out of the question.

Doesn't matter. As long as you unroot and relock the bootloader, bring it back and tell them it stopped working. You should be under warranty.
Please follow the guides to return it FULLY to stock. Including the stock ROM.

[Q] Warning! Camera Failed Message

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 and from the start I have not been able to take a picture. Whenever I open the camera application, I get the message "Warning Camera Failed". I have tried the factory reset, WANAM camera fix, various Stock Roms and I am evening running the Omera ROM right now. None of these seem to work, could this be a hardware or software issue and is there a fix for it?

Test the camera in test mode. Enter *#0*# on your dialpad and choose mega cam and see if the camera works there. If it still crashes there, then chances are it's a hardware problem.
Thanks so much otacon88. I have tried the camera in test mode and it still does not work. So it is safe to assume its a hardware problem?

If it didn't work on stock firmware I would return the phone immediately
I guess that is what I will be doing tomorrow. However I tried the front facing camera and that works. How do i remove the custom firmware that I have put and install the stock firmware back so that I do not have any issues with my warranty

If you have message "Camera failed"...
First of all try this: Open Camera app from the "Application manager" and do "Clear data", then restart the phone.
Second: Do a Factory reset (of course save your data!).
Third: Reinstall Android OS.
If this not help you, you have a hardware problem. You need to change the camera.

Then I rooted the phone, tested rotation again, still OK, so then I braved CWM and it's fine.. Still working fine now last I checked... thankfully it was a bit annoying playing with youtube earlier.. @jetbruceli has the same issue also

Yeeeeeeeees :good: No one is able to upload these files here........ What the hell, every body tell us to reflash because they are to lazy finding out what the problem is ...
SHealth and Sensorservice are the problem, if one is removed, rotation is away.
I've made a thread and pleased for the Apks and Odexs files but even after 100 views no one can do this -

First of all help is always starting from the beginning. If you reflash the problem goes away and all is well. No one knows really why yet it stops rotation.
I removed Knox and it stop the rotation too. Reinstalling didn't help.
So please before saying no is helping just do what we suggest and then figure the rest on your own.
I had the problem with rotatation before anyone I believe and my solution was to reflash from scratch and then only remove add on apps like ever note.
Leave all Sammy apps installed and so far my note is running perfect
Hit thanks if I helped

I am sick of knock on not working!

If this should go in Q&A Please moderator move for me.
After i got the KitKat update it has been downhill from there.
Little by little knock on stopped working. now it does not work at all.
I have doner factory resets several times and nothing seems to fix this.
Is it a hardware issue or software issue?
Is it the proximity sensor???
I am out of ideas.
I am considering switching to either the Galaxy S5 or HTC M8.
Has anyone of you experienced this problem and if so, is there a fix??
I have searched and read many threads here and nobody has a fix.
Completely Frustrated.

Dear i am also facing the same issue, my knock off is working perfectly but now knock on doesn't seems to work, i become really frustrated done wipe cache, hard reset and now completely messed up everything.
Actually knock performance keeps on deteriorating for me after kk update and now yesterday i got another update D802B and knok on messed up, now i had to use power button to turn my screen on, really frustrating.
As far as my opinion LG G2 is a phone with good hardware and ****ing software.

Root cause G9350 front camrea capture black

My English is bad, sorry.
I rooted my G9350 by odin flashing a TWRP recovery, but there is so many bugs that I can not stand, so I flash official ROM back.
But when I test front camrea by using system camrea app, I found the first shot is overturned, and after the second shot the photo become deep red black or color detached......
In "*#0*#" service mode, the front camrea is no any problem, in third-party camera app, the captured photo is also overturned.....
I have flashed back official ROM by using odin many times, but it does not work....
I have asked Samsung's support, they say they have no way to solve...
Who can help me? Thanks!
Have you tried a full factory reset? If you have, try to change storage location to SD or vice versa

I tried flashing TWRP image for J500H via Odin but it showed passed in Odin but the Recovery wasn't installed
(Pardon my noob questions. I've been around android development for the past few years. I am basically a Sony and Pixel user never used or worked for any Samsung devices before)

Well you have to watch videos on YouTube to prevent brick your phone!
For twrp installing:use the latest version of twrp and don't forget that untick auto restart at odin
When it passed on odin unplug your phone from pc anf get out your battery and after 5sec put it in.and try to go to twrp by volume up+home+power
Good luck

Sorry to bother you again but does the Camera get lost after unlocking the bootloader (like we do in Sony)?
Cause I am seeing, "error, camera is being used by another application"

SCS and and your phone model and what app do you use would may be helpful

The problem occurred after unlocking. And the toast notification showed, "Unable to open camera, camera is being used by another application". (Sorry I couldn't grab an screenshot. I thought it was hardware side problem but I checked it. Even if was the rare camera issue then the front camera should work. The flashlight isn't working too,)
I forgot to backup the stock ROM and lost it on ROM installation but after installing ROMs, same issue. I tried 3 ROMs, A8 Port, LineageOS 16 and currently on EvoX.
Tried different camera apps , tried WhatsApp camera also, no luck..
Even CPU-Z isn't recognising the Camera.
The device model is J53gxx.
I flashed TWRP exactly as you said.

My advice would be flash stock ROM through Odin and start all over again.
Boot stock rom and make sure camera and flashlight works, then enable oem unlocking and USB debugging and install twrp and a new rom.
If that doesn't solve the issue then it may be hardware related.
Also you could get a log of trying to open camera app and post it here.
