I don't really know what to call this.. read please? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Whenever I take a photo it seems to be always orientated in landscape. In the stock gallery app, the photo will automatically view in portrait, but in other photo viewers it'll display it in landscape. Is there any reason as to why it does this and anything I can do about this?

Check the settings in the camera app, you can pick one or the other.
What is that crap at the bottom?

Picture rotate gesture in Album

I wonder why noone has noticed that problem yet, so I'm creating a new thread.
HTC has removed the rotate gesture from the Album. They say it's because there is a G#Sensor now.
But that's bull****. Just think: What happens if you rotate the device because the orientation of a picture is wrong?
The picture rotates also, because of the G-Sensor, and it's wrong again.
That's VERY annoying! Is there any Album version (perhaps from Diamond) where the rotate gesture is still there?
I experienced what you mean for the first time today and didn't know what was going on.
For those who don't know what we are talking about......
This only happens when you take a picture with the lens looking straight down (for example when taking a picture of a page in a book). If you were to hang the book on the wall and take a picture of it, you would not have this problem. Test it for yourself, so you see what we mean. Take a picture of your keyboard standing directly above it. Or try one of the ceiling directly above you. Now go to your album and view the picture of the keyboard. Rotate your phone.
The annoying solution after having taking a picture like this is to hold the phone upright so the picture is nice and big. Then, carefully set the phone down on the desk and THEN turn it to the side (so the G-sensor won't register the turn).

i cant really get the problem here.. if i take a picture while holding my phone upright it'll look best in portrait mode.. if i rotate it then i'll look smaller.. now if i take the picture holding the phone in landscape. the picture will look small in the default portrait mode and will look nice and big when i rotate the phone..
i cant seem to reproduce your issue here!

When you take the picture - are you pointing the camera straight down at the floor or straight up toward the sky? I don't mean slightly aimed at the floor - I mean the lens needs to point directly down or directly up. That is the only way you will reproduce our issue.

I miss the rotate gesture as well. I took my 'old micro SD' from my 'old' touch dual and put it in my HD. The HD doesn't now 'know' how the pictures are taken so some I like to rotate.. but how can this be done with the HD?

indeed you are right! the problem here is that when you do take a picture this way to Album rotates too.. so the previews are messed up! now if you close the album and open it in portrait mode your issue is fixed!
im not sure about this but before installing apps like gsen, gyrator or mobile magic the album doesnt rotate when you rotate your phone.. only the picture preview does!
someone check it please!

Are you sure? I still have the issue no matter what mode I start the album in. The only solution I have found is placing the phone flat on a table and then turning it so the g-sensor doesn't catch the rotation.
EDIT:
Viewing the pics in slideshow mode and pausing it is also a solution, but annoying.
I took all my pictures normally, not pointing to the floor. Some are alright, some are turned upside down, some are turned to the side.
The camera doesn't get the right orientation, perhaps Gyrator confused the camera. I turned Gyrator off but I often take photos of documents, too and that's just annoying when they have the wrong orientation and I can't rotate them....
manual screen rotation
greetz first to all, you´r doing an amazing job!!!
not really a problem solver but maybe worth trying:
disable picture rotation in gyr2 for album
install aebuttonplus
assign "rotate picture" and "rotate picture clockwise" to button (for example volume up and down, long press)
=> rotate screen when viewing photos as desired!
...have to admit i haven´t tested it yet
S2V is an alternative to HTC Album. Picture rotation is working in S2V, but no zoom because the HD has no DPad
Is there anyway to manual change the picture orientations? Like a picture that has a wrong orientation when you put it on the HD, the auto rotation would mess it up all the time, either view it on the side or makes it so small that it just a waste of the screen estate.
It's a problem I notice a lot when I get photo messages. Most of the time the photo I receive is the wrong way round, and I can't find a way to make it switch round. So I get landscape shots that only show in portrait with big black bars top and bottom and vice versa.
I'm going to try using XN View to manually change the orientation as a workaround. But it'd be nice to have the Rotate Gesture.
Any Updates? This problem has gotten even worse with Dutty's laest ROM...
Is there a way to turn off the G-Sensor for the HTC Album?
Try this cab
With this cab you lose WVGA in the menu (it is annoying but you're still able to use it), but the most important thing is that making a 90º gesture rotates the picture.
In my case I needed a soft reset after installing (my HD freezed just the first time it started up, not the second)
Hope it helps.

[Q] Rotate a picture

Hello,
My HD2 doesn't seem to rotate the picture correctly when I take a picture with the camera. As the HD2 has an accelerometer I thought it would automatically rotate the picture depending on how I am holding the phone, but it doesn't. The picture is always as if I was holding the phone vertically (even though the camera interface is horizontal).
Also, there is no way in HTC Album to actually rotate the stupid picture. That's really annoying.
I see nobody complaining about this, so am I the only one having troubles with that?
Also, is there a way to turn off the dial tone in the telephone? It's really loud and annoying.
Thank you

So what actually happens if you hold the phone horizontally and take a picture? Is that picture then immediately shown back to you on it's side??? (so you'd have to go to portrait in order to see it the right way round?)
To turn off the dial tone (which I agree, is just hideous), go to settings tab, menu, all settings, personal, phone and change the keypad value to Off.

Ok, that is weird, I just tried to be sure and it looks like it's working fine now. Weird bug... worth thing is that I didn't even update my phone.

Thanks a lot for that one! My OS is in french and the translation for that option is so bad that I didn't understand what it meant.

Glad you got them both sorted. That is weird with the camera. Maybe an issue with your accelorometers? It'd be worth keeping an eye out, but it was probably just a bug.

Blurry Photos

I've been using the camera a lot lately and have always had a problem with the picture quality, mainly indoor pics. I would hold the phone steady, press the shutter button down halfway, wait for it to focus, then take a picture, but it would still end up a little blurry. Anyone getting problems like this? If not, what settings are you using?
Also, my biggest gripe is the fact that camera settings can't be saved. I would set it up so a friend could take a picture of me, but they somehow always press that search button, which then erases all my camera settings when they go back to the camera app. Did anyone find a hack or some sort of method to keep the settings permanent?
The main reason I have to bring all this up was biggest after taking blurry pictures last night, my friend's just bust out their iphones and with one simple click, they took an almost instantaneous photo with no settings to mess with and no blur at all.
I would also like to add that one of my friends was trying to take photos with his lg quantum as well, and he has the same problem. Is this a problem with windows phone 7 in general?
you could check out shcamera. It's a sideloaded app that was developed for the hd2 crowd, so it doesn't use the camera button, it's all screen rouc, and it doesn't have all the various settings/adjustments, but it saves settings and works pretty good. Tap screen to focus, press onscreen shutter button to take picture.

Same here. I owned an HD7 that didn't have this blurry issue. It seems the Focus camera is super sensitive to movement.
Thanks, at least I know i'm not the only one with this problem. I try to turn on anti shake everytime i use the app, which actually helps a lot. The problem is when I give the phone to someone so they can take the picture. They somehow accidently press the search button and I have to play with the settings again. Kind of a bummer, but I'll try to get used to it.

You might consider having them take more than one picture. I've noticed that when I take another picture after the blurry one, the results tend to be more normal. Maybe have them take a preliminary picture and then a real one. This seems preferable to messing with settings all the time.
Nice. The new NoDo update made the anti-shake option on by default. That will help a lot!

the nodo update didnt default the anti shake on by default on my focus .
The official nodo update for att focus includes a Samsung update that defaults the antishake on, helps lessen accidental capacitive button presses, includes an att hotspot sniffer/whisper that auto logins, and has a provision for transferring att phonebook contacts onto the phone

Me, too. Still have blurry pics, though.
in low light indoors you might want to try the setting photo quality on medium instead of the default hi setting.

How does screen capture work?

I can take a snapshot, I hear the camera shutter sound, but then what? When I try to paste it tells me there's nothing to paste. How do I use this screen shot?
The shots are in your "Gallery" app. when you go to a pic, there's a menu on the upper right with a weird symbol where you can select what to do with it: social hub, picassa, gmail, etc.
Go into your gallery and you'll see the screenshots that you have taken in the album ScreenCapture

i haven't updated so i cannot test, but you might try seeing if you can turn off the sound in the camera app, and then see if that works.
Its nice to see that Samsung included "Screen Capture" option in TouchWiz but where they put it, is really annoying sometimes.
I accidentally hit this button (instead of the multitask) many times already.
I looked for a way to turn this off but it looks like there is no option to do so.

I agree. It can be hit by mistake if you're not careful. Wish they had a way to disable it, or set it so that we have to press and hold it for a second or two to activte it.

So you can share your screen when trying to help others get apps or widgets like they have, helps with instructions.
why it can't be turned off I do not know. It's hardly a feature worthy of putting right next to the most frequently used buttons.

Can we even turn the camera shutter sound off? I did on my epic and on my wife smaller tab but I can't seem to see a option on the 10.1.
As for the screen snap shot it has its moment's, my brother and I play games on our android devices and when I beat his score I take a snapshot and sent it to him via text to rub it in.

[Q] A couple of questions.

I have a few questions, that I hope someone can help me with.
Originally, the orientation of the N7 was always portrait, until the update that changed it. I actually liked it as portrait only. Are there any way to lock it at portrait. I have looked everywhere in the settings, but I can't seem to find anything.
The other question is about the gallery. For some reason, the gallery do not refresh, when I put new files on my tablet. Are there any way that I can force the N7 to refresh and show any new pictures?
Thank you....

If I recall, the media scanner runs when the device boots. Have you tried restarting the device?
WOW!
That was a fast and great reply. It solved the orientation and I am rebooting right now, to check the Gallery.
Thank you very much.
