Bump, and also in the same boat.
I came from HTC Sense, and find the Samsung dialer very not nice.
I hope we can have something ported onto the S4...

Do you mean stock android dialer in a touchwiz rom?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
In my case I mean the TouchWiz dialer. (EDIT, to clarify, I mean I dont like the TW dialer, sorry about the confusion..)
The HTC Sense dialer is much more functional and intuitive. It shows you a keypad and your last calls ( and much further down the list, ALL your contacts) on the same screen, and by typing the number/letters, it narrows down the list to the desired contact (whether on the last calls log, AND/OR in your contact list). Its all done on one screen. To do the same thing on TW I have to jump through 3 different tabs or 5-6 key presses.
Also for contacts with multiple numbers, a side swipe scroll through the available numbers.
Plus a few other featureless and tricks makes the Sense dialer a lot easier to use, try it if you get a chance and you'll see what I mean.
Any one if the HTC dialer is ported, or possible to install/use on TW?

try Ex Dialer It has a dialer and contacts. I use it on my s4 with alot of theme's available, it looks alot like stock android dialer and is much faster than the stock samsung dialer.

I've tried it but its just not the same as the stock android dialer and contacts.
I'm also badly expecting stock dialer, contacts, clock and messaging ...
It would be better that Somebody could create the stock Dialer, contacts and message apk ...
it will be highly appreciated if someone can post a flashable zip adding stock jelly bean dialer, contact and messaging app to touchwiz. Its like having the best of both worlds

Hey guys. I'm wondering if it's possible to get some of the very nice looking HTC Sense Widgets on our Stock, or Vanilla 2.2 Phones. I have a N1 running CM6.1 Nightly and I'd love some Sense UI Widgets.
Yes I have Beautiful Widgets, and that is nice. But I'm looking for stuff like there Bookmarks Widget, and there Calls or Call Log, and the People Widget, or things like those. Is this possible? I love the bookmarks widget on Sense, that is one of the main things I want. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Impossible to get the actual widgets on stock android...however you can download LauncherPro and pay for the plus features and it comes with a slew of sense style widgets (resizable too so IMO better)
and for ADW Launcher there are free and paid widgets u can download from the market which work well with it.
I wonder why we can't extract the widgets from Sense.. that sucks.
and I've never gave Launcher Pro an honest try, so maybe I should check it out. but ADW is integrated into CM6. I've looked on the market. There doesn't seem to be any good Bookmark Widgets out so that might be a no go. But thanks!
the launcher pro plus is the way to go...yes it isn't free but it is well worth it. LauncherPro itself doesn't support widgets, the paid version does though it is available thru the app and not thru the market.
just the extra's. I'll be looking into it now I guess. Thanks!

For every post on the forum someone will respond "USE THE SEARCH FEATURE, THATS BEEN ASKED ALREADY" - I think that was the point of his question as it was worded, "...can u lead me to" - not to mention the person who types that response almost never includes the helpful link to the question being asked - I ask "why is that?" Comeon helpful forum community be helpful - for the record I've only once used the search feature n found what I was looking for - this is way too much information to be sorted this old way - SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO A NIGHTLY BUILD FOR THIS FORUM
I use the Twitter, Facebook and Calendar widgets in Launcher Pro Plus and they're great.
You won't be disappointed in the purchase.

This is because HTC widgets rely on large chunks of HTC framework, "melted" among AOSP code. The way to go would be to backport some of it back into AOSP, AND largely modify the widgets to make them not rely as much on Sense. Highly impractical.
If I recall correctly, adding HTC widgets was tried by people online on ADW on HTC phones, and it wouldn't work because you cannot use them outside of the HTC Sense launcher.
For the call log, get the last call widget. Tapping the left will open up the whole call log, and on the right you can make a direct call back.
For the people widget, give picture dial a try.
picture dial is the way to go...

Launcher Pro
I'm running completely stock and Launcher Pro is the best all in one solution I've found. I paid for the full version have not regretted it. There are several very useful Sense-like widgets (Bookmarks, Calendar, Facebook, Twitter, Friends [which is all your social networking feeds in one], Messaging, People [which is your contacts]). It also allows your homescreens to rotate to landscape, gives you a customizable and scrollable dock. I also find that it scrolls much more smoothly than the stock launcher.
Well worth the purchase price.
Dialer one is almost an exact replica of the sense dialer FWIW and free.

That's a pretty blunt way of saying things. You telling me you can prove he stole the code from htc and htc is taking so damn long to pull a cease and desist?
And he's currently rewriting the code from scratch so it should be a different beast altogether in the next version.

Cease and desist between two countries with loose IP laws? That's a waste of time.
Look at his earlier .apks you'll find HTC assets in the res folder that have nothing to do with the launcher at those points. *oops*

That's kind of a shame, but it's not too much of a bummer.
Touchwiz actually didn't seem that bad when I demoed it at a store, but I think it still slows it down from its full capabilities.

OK, thanks.
I'm assuming it's possible to remove Touchwiz? Or is that not possible either?
Just installl ADW Launcher from the market (or any other Launcher).
There is also Gingerbread Launcher in the Market http://www.appbrain.com/app/gingerbread-launcher/com.modaco.android.launchergb
Also you can try Dialer One which is a nicer dialer than the Samsung one http://www.appbrain.com/app/dialer-one/kz.mek.DialerOne
And Music Mod (modified stock player) http://www.appbrain.com/app/music-mod-(froyo-only)/com.piratemedia.musicmod instead of the Samsung player.
I dont think it is possible to remove some Samsung apps like Dialer/Contacts etc, but I have successfully removed all the *Hub apps, Samsung Music Player, Samsung Apps and some other garbage like that.
This **** isnt OK Samsung!
When you use the dialer and hit contacts and then Keypad and then Contacts the screen goes black and redraws and lags like crap.
People use the dialer every time they use the phone and its just BAD.
How on earth do you think you will ever compete with iOS when you have glaring problems with the most basic functions.
The functionality is OK but the implementation is terrible.
If you cant make Touchwiz work then maybe you should just forget it and start over.
Oh and BTW Nature themes suck.
Rant over
Ps. Omega Rom rox
Works fine for me. Yes it does show an animation or transition or whatever you want to call it, but I see no lag.

By the way I am typing from my phone.. So expect typos!!
That UI 'lag' or 'black screen' is because when you hit contacts your actually launching a new app (although it doesn't look like you have).
Samsung have just created the dialer app with a direct link to the contact app and vice versa but it is still in two separate apk's
I hate the implementation of the smart dial functionality. HTC Sense has vastly superior implementation. The Samsung version looks like they threw something together in a hurry and didn't finish it off. For a start the dialler only shows one result and there's a considerable delay to pop up the full list. Next there's the fact that there's no space key so I can't type say JspaceS to show John Smith and James Sullivan. Lastly there's the bug whereby if you have a title in the person's name, smart dial only finds the contact if you type the first letters of the title and not the name. If I have a Fr Joe Burns I have to type Fr for the name to show, J and B won't work. I wish Samsung could fix this.

I just installed CM10 Nightly on my wife's SII and it's faster to do both than my SIII. I can see the OP's point, really. Just sayin' that there is some room for optimisation there. No question about it.
Samsung really needs to work on its integration. They have good ideas dont get me wrong.. such as swipe to call on the names. But the way to make it all fit together really sucks
Sorry if this has been posted before, but I am having a hard time finding anything about it (which I am confused by as well!)
I just upgraded from a samsung captivate (original ) and one of the features I liked about that phone was that in the dialer I could start typing in the first few numbers of someones number or the first few letters of someone's name and their number would auto fill in and I could just click it and call.
I know it is probably not nexus 4 specific, but 4.+ in general, but is there any way to get this feature back? Am I just missing something obvious, why in the world would they get rid of this?
T9 dialer?

My guess is that, that specific feature is called T9-dialer and I'm missing that too. I level'd up from ZTE Blade running CM10 to my brand spankin new N4 yesterday and yes, I want that feature back... Or... what the heck, Im going to root, unlock and flah CM 10.1 within the next 22h anyways )))
The T9 dialer is not included in AOSP. It's honestly the main reason I rooted. There is a T9 dialer apk floating around, but it only works on deodexed ROMs. Most ROMs inthe dev section have T9.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757280
Remember, deodexed only.

Ah thanks, seems strange google would leave out what seems like such an obvious feature.
I am using exDialer now and it works perfectly so far, so if anyone else is interested (and doesn't want to run a custom rom) I highly recommend it.

Ehh. I bought it mainly because I like the stock experience. I've played around with a lot of roms and I'm a little tired of having little issues here and there. Right now the phone runs blazingly fast, and apart from not having the t-9 dialer installed (which it now does and works great) I have no current issues, nor any desire to play around.
Heres the T9 dialer mod. Make sure you're on a deodexed ROM before flashing it.

It is there to some extent, you just have to hit search on the dialer screen.
Seems a pointless step to me like.

This was posted on the nexus 4 themes and apps forum and is proven to be compatible with 4.2 without issues.
Maybe the dialer in your link works fine as well but since it was from an old post on the gnex forums, I thought I'd add this just in case there were any compatibility issues.
Perhaps its the exact same mod though, I have no idea if there's any real difference.

If you were going to suggest a Contacts/Dialer app that is as good or better than the Note3 Contacts app, what would you suggest?
the default one is not bad...
but if you really want to third party Dialer/Contracts app, Callapp very good.
