I have a question about how to go about doing THIS and how/what to flash because the OP is kinda confusing -__-
So I'm purchasing my Sprint GS4 today (will be taking the trip to Best Buy in ONE HOUR)!! I just have a question... after I root my phone, I want to install the deodexed stock ROM so I can install a custom kernel/mods/theme/etc.! The OP of that thread confuses me a little though, it says that the zips don't include a kernel or firmware. Do I HAVE TO flash a kernel and firmware separately? OR can I just flash the "Download Deodexed with data wipe zip" and be good to go and ready to flash mods and all the goodies?!? ANY help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Basically the rom is MDL based but is packaged without the MDL kernel/firmware. So after flashing you will still have the stock MDC kernel and MDC modem/firmware which is fine (UNLESS your device when you get it is already updated to latest OTA, then it will already be on MDL). You can then flash a custom kernel if you wish however I believe at this time the only way to get the MDL modem/firmware is by taking the latest OTA.
So to answer your question, no, you do not have to flash a kernel and firmware unless a custom kernel is required for whatever mod you might be flashing (like Crossbreeder).
Hope this answers your questions.

Hello,
What is the best way to get back to complete stock (including locked bootloader). I'm done with playing with custom ROMs (running CM11 right now). I want stock and guaranteed stability then nightmare dealing with nightlies etc.

I'm guessing you're on an I337 since you mentioned locked bootloader. If I were you I'd just flash a 4.4.2 stock ROM so that you can keep the possibility to use AOSP ROMs like the Google Edition ROMs and others. You can flash the ROM from HERE, use the version that doesn't say wBL at the end. Then just flash one of the 4.4.2 modems in RockRatt's I337 modem thread and it should work just fine. You could even reflash the MDL firmware before all of this to make it clean, or even just freeze the updater and stay on MDL.
If you really want to get rid of all possibility of running more than themed and modded TouchWiz ROMs, you can simply go to the General section, find the NB1 ODIN files, and flash them. If you want root after that, take the OTA to NC1 or sideload it and then use towelroot.

So if I flash one of NB1 ODIN files my phone will looks like something I get from ATT store if I walk in there today, right? That's what I want to achieve, completely something unadultered.

Yes, it will be just like the others in every way, knox bootloader and settings and all, no custom flags or anything.
Okay, so I'm almost positive there is probably a thread for this, but I'm having trouble finding exactly what I'm looking for and very new to doing all of this on my own. I usually have a buddy help me out (aka he does it all).
I am running 4.4.2 Kit Kat on NC1 and I was finally able to root my device using TowelRoot. I've been trying for days now to install ClockworkMod custom recovery, but to no avail. Odin has failed, the command prompt method has failed, and Rom Manager app has failed. Is there just no compatible builds for any of this? I'm not entirely sure how this all works or why any of it is failing. What can I do to install CWM or TWRP and get CM11 back on? I need all kinds of explanation, so don't skimp on the details! Thanks guys!
You can't install clockwork. You have to use safestrap. Read the all things mk2, nc1 thread. It will tell you just about everything you need to know. Is an awesome thread and how I learned everything about this phone.

Awesome! That's exactly the direction I'm looking for! Thank you so much.
No problem at all. We've all needed help on here from time to time. Good luck.
Great advice above. To add to it you will NOT be able to use CM11 on your device at this time or probably ever. Also you will NOT be able to ever flash CWM or TWRP recoveries.
You can ONLY use safestrap recovery which ONLY allows flashing Touchwiz based Roms.
You can ONLY flash Touchwiz based Roms because with Safestrap it will NOT flash any custom kernels. A custom Kernel is need to flash CM11, AOKP, and other AOSP Based roms.
You also CANNOT downgrade your bootloader as it is locked down hard. The locked down boot loader is why all above cannot work for your device. ONLY the original phones that came with MDB or MDL firmwares were able to use the Loki Bootloader Bypass, which allowed for flashing CWM or TWRP recoveries and then allow ANYTHING like any custom Roms (also based or Touchwiz based), flash custom kernels, flash anything. But any phone updated to the MF3 firmware or newer the boot loader was locked down too much to do much.

Ok, I have been running an OLD version of SACs custom ROM for a while (Pre Kitkat I think).
I am considering going back to stock Rooted with the Hotspot mod only.
I've been out of the "flashing" scene for a while, so what's the easiest way to go back to current stock w/ rooted & hotspot mod? If you could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it!
1. Please don't post questions in the development forum.
2. Find Unknownforce's stock rooted NAE thread.
3. Read and follow his directions.

Ahh... Sorry. I was looking at this forum and the Q&A forum at the same time. Thought I was posting in there.
Thanks, I'll look up his.
Been reading different threads. So if I just flash i Rooted NAE ROM I should be ok? I just want to make sure since I am coming from an OLD version of SACS.

You'll probably have to Odin the NAE modem as well. Somewhere in unknown's thread are the instructions to do and keep a pre Knox bootloader
Ok, 1 more question...
If I want to go back to complete stock from the old SACS Rom...
Could I just flash a stock MDL to my phone and then tell the phone to update it's self and let it OTA update to current version?
Would there possible be any problems with that?
Just curious as I have an old stock MDL already on my computer from when I was flash long ago.
I know this way I would have KNOX but I honestly don't really care too much.
That will take a bit, but will work for sure.

You should not do this! If you have a newer bootloader than the MDL install will fail. All you need to do is download the full NAE tar file and install it. You will be updated in one step and you won't lose data. you can get the full NAE tar from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663619
Been trying to read and figure out as much as I can, but I'm lost. I rooted my phone right when I got it a few months after release. I have the MDL firmware and I'm running stock that I've modified to my liking. I rooted using motochopper, I have TB and SU and I have TWRP installed. I'm ready to take the jump and try to get an updated firmware, but don't know where to look. It seems a lot of the info in now for the newer firmwares.
I would like to run either Google edition or a modified TouchWiz I think. I like keeping things pretty clean and fast. I am currently running Aviate on top of TouchWiz and I like the clean organized feel of it, although a bit laggy.
Please help me XDA, sorry I know this is a newb post. I've been blocking the OTAs for over a year and I'm ready to move on.
First I would suggest NOT to use any STOCK firmware to update to 4.4.2
There are some newer Google Edition Roms I believe in the ATT original ANDROID SECTION. You can use them since you have twrp recovery. Those with newer firmware cannot use the latest google edition Roms unless they are made for safestrap.
Or if you want a modified stock Touchwiz with all the extra benefits you can flash directly to ShoStock-i 8.1 which is 4.4.2 based.
Keeping you MDL bootloader and the Loki bootloader bypass you have now let's you flash ANYTHING you want, including kernels.
If you update firmwares the bootloader becomes MORE LOCKED DOWN and you cannot flash any Roms that need a modified kernel like aosp based Roms, or any kernel other than stock.
Thank you ill check those roms out. I am aware that I DO NOT want to update my firmware, that's part of the reason I asked for advice, to see which roms work well with MDL. Most of what I found was all for newer FW versions.

Would I be better off upgrading to OUDHS Touch CWM-based Recovery 1.0.3.5 instead of TWRP so everything is auto Loki'd?

Sorry I haven't tried OUDHS so I cannot comment. But TWRP still works perfectly. For ShoStock you would NOT need to flash Loki-Doki patch or anything. The kernel in ShoStock-i is already Loki patched. If you plan on trying other Roms it is always best to keep the Loki-Doki flashable zip on your sdcard and flash it after flashing a ROM. Just extra insurance that won't hurt anything if the ROM is already lokified.
Ok going to try flashing this

Followed by Loki Doki
Hope I'm doing this right.

I have a rooted Verizon Galaxy S5 G900V on the OC4 MOAR rom. I need to unroot and flash back to stock. I have tried a few but don't want to keep toying around and mess something up. How do I simply (preferably with FlashRoot) unroot and go to stock?

I thought all you had to do was uninstall busybox, supersu, and anything else that installs into system (although installing a stock rom should wipe System, correct me if I'm wrong here), and then flash a stock rom. And noting that bootloaders OE1/OG5 cannot be downgraded, so it's advised you flash an older OD5 stock firmware or below.
This is a guide to go from LP to KK which basically involves just that, flashing. You most likely have to use ODIN for it.

I hear "rom" in stock rom and wonder if it's legitimately stock at that point. Don't I just need to flash the firmware? Wouldn't I do a parallel move to OC4? Where do I get a legitimate firmware for OC4?
The ultimate problem I'm trying to solve is that I'm rooted and need to send my phone in for an upgrade.

Rom is just a reference to the fact that its a firmware. Rom doesn't necessarily have to mean it's custom. Unless I'm misusing the word rom, although people generally don't misunderstand when they're told stock rom. If it's a custom, it would be specified, "rom based on stock (insert version) or usually, based on TouchWiz (insert fw ver).
Anyways here are some of the stock firmwares.
